Not terrible, but not great either
Mixed bag stay. The good: comfortable bed, friendly staff, beautiful country location, parking close by. The bad: poor sound insulation, stained carpet, mouldy shower. For the price, I would not return. Solve the above and this would be a great place to stay.
Accommodation did not meet expectations
Having booked back in January for a two night stay on 24 and 25 December to include breakfast for two days upon arrival we were advised that following a change of ownership breakfast was no longer available but we could have a breakfast basket for an additional £10. When we advised the member of staff that we had already paid for breakfast she confirmed that it would be provided at no extra cost. When the breakfast basket arrived for the first morning it consisted of two fruit juices, instant porridge x2, an apple, an orange and two croissants well past their best before dates with a selection of preservatives! And to top it all we didn’t have a breakfast basket delivered for the second morning! We feel that there was plenty of opportunity to advise us about the breakfast situation beforehand so that we could make alternative arrangements. The bathroom fittings were in a very poor state of repair, the shower control was incomplete, the water outlet for the bath had dropped and was surrounded by mouldy sealant, the sink tap was very loose with lots of limescale and the sink plug did not seal. We have stayed here previously albeit a little while ago with no complaints at all. We feel that the accommodation is very tired and neglected. Will have second thoughts before booking again.
Very nice place
Another great find
Lovely country pub with restaurant and large, safe garden. Good atmosphere and owners friendly and helpful. Room large and bed comfortable. We only stayed one night but wished we had stayed longer.
Average
Not particularly great for the price. No Internet or breakfast
Fabulous
Fab hotel stay, I will be back
Needs an update
Managers only be there a week so may not have had time to fix things, bathroom was not clean and everything just looked jaded
Excellent service, fantastic staff, delicious food. A great place to stay in a quiet country location. Will definitely return. Highly recommended!
Staff were great. Property is in a quiet village and that suited our needs for this trip
Good all round
Great for one night stay. Comfy beds.Quiet location in village
Wonderful location, well prepared, good quality food, comfortable room and bed.
The staff were so lovely here and the room was comfortable and clean.
We arrived late but were greeted by the very welcoming host and made to feel at home.
Excellent. Would stay again
Our Nee Inn stay
It was great, a bit more remote than we were expecting but that was a bonus. Staff were very friendly and food and room just right.
Nice olde pub/accommodation.
Lovely old fashioned pub/accommodation. The rooms were small but cosy. Coffee and tea facilities and everything we needed for our stay. Although we didn't eat there the food looked really nice, and they serve a few guest ales. All in all was quite a nice place and would stay there again if visiting the area. Would try the food as well.
Business trip
Very clean, comfortable and quiet. I only stayed one night whilst on a business trip. I couldn't get the wifi to work but I didn't ask for it to be looked at as it forced me to switch off from work. The food in the pub was excellent and the staff very helpful.
Respectable
Room over looked the back of the kitchen so the fans were noisy. The walls between the rooms are paper thin so you can hear everything! The shower was dangerously scolding hot couldn't turn the heat down.
Fab
Really lovely place fab food, friendly staff lovely location and just a really nice place to stay and eat. Will definitely be staying again
Excellent.
Nice quiet location close enough to Reading centre with a lovely pub atmosphere. Real ale, good food and friendly staff.
Excellent
Great pub, wonderful staff and great rooms...
Great place
Great place to stay!
Perfect peaceful weekend
When we arrived the small bar was buzzing. We had lunch (just sharing Camembert as we were eating at the hotel in the evening) before being shown to our room. As we were the only ones staying that Saturday night we were upgraded to the Merlot room which was very large with a terrace and full bath. The landlady and the other lady who dealt with us throughout our stay were so friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We were even allowed a late breakfast which was a. great treat. All the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. It is a very quiet área and we just used the inn for a quiet getaway after the Christmas holidays and this was perfect.
Lovely hotel, great staff, hard pillows
Good countryside location. Very quite. Nice pub. Easy parking. Easy to find. Good food and beer, Good breakfast.
Really lovely rooms, on the small side but very clean, good condition and comfy.
Comfortable hotel, lovely garden, good breakfast
We stayed one night while attending a christening nearby
Lovely warm welcome and characterful building
Lovely warm welcome, beautiful building and gardens. Lovely characterful rooms but furniture a little tired. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Really lovely freshly cooked breakfast. Would definitely stay again
Regatta bolt-hole
Stayed here while the regatta was on. Had a lovely stay, nice and quiet, cute room and well equipped although very tricky (impossible) to use the mirror with a hair dryer. Breakfast was fabulous as was the service provided by Nicky and the owner. Highly recommend and hopefully be back next year!
Saturday night stay
Good stay and felt welcomed. Pub food level and as expected. Champagne Room very nice but need bigger bath towels! Really comfortable bed. Good beer.
Great Hotel
Great Hotel, good breakfast with great service from Dora, evening meal tasty and plentiful if a little expensive on the wine. Roads leading to hotel are narrow, muddy potholed tracks, or better roads with speed humps! Locals have big high cars!
Great Hotel, Great Staff - Thank you
Stayed here for the location for work, but would equally stay if away for the evening with my partner. Service and Food is second to none, very personal, and nothing is too much trouble. Would definately recommend.
As a frequent business hotel user home from home is important to me, well the new inn did not disappoint. Set outside reading in the idyllic English countryside; the Inn is just the thing for an overnight stay or more. The rooms are warm, comfortable and clean and the drinks provided in the room were lovely. The food is absolutely gorgeous and very well presented. the pub has an open fire and a range heater and is warm and welcoming. the best this pub has to offer is the welcome and service by all that work there, they truly have an excellent customer focused ethic and I truly could not be made to feel more valued. really looking forward to another stay.
It was wonderful! A very nice staff and a quiet place.
Lovely customer focused hotel and restaurant
As noted in my earlier review, the New Inn is a delight to stay in, lovely quiet location, easy parking, brilliant friendly staff, a comfortable room and bed and delicious food. On this occasion Dora and her team went out of their way to help us by opening the Inn earlier than usual to allow the congregation at my Aunt's memorial service to gather afterwards, to share coffee and reminiscences of my Aunt. This was a real kindness to us and is a testament to the very customer focused community spirit of the New Inn. Thank you so much Dora. I would recommend it to anyone and would always choose to stay there if holidaying in the area.
Great Little Pub/B&B
Great little pub/B&B, location was perfect for our needs, great breakfast, friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely use The New Inn again. Provides exactly what it should for its star rating.
Spacious and Comfortable
Room was spacious, bed was comfortable. Bathroom was spacious but shower just ok, no hair conditioner. Staff were all friendly and food was good.
Location and service - excellent
The manager, Dora goes above and beyond to ensure the comfort of guests, incredibly professional friendly and helpful
I can't say enough about this lovely country inn in a quiet village about 10 minutes northeast of Reading. The owner/manager (Dora) went above and beyond in the service provided to us -- excellent meals and very comfortable accommodations.
Nice, clean comfortable room-nice owners
Owners 5th anniversary at the New Inn the night of our visit, so we joined their BBQ celebration and enjoyed great food and entertainment.
Lovely Country Inn
Booked this hotel as was a lot cheaper than the city centre hotels but still only 15 mins drive outside Reading. Upon arrival, the Inn was empty and I waited 10 mins before I managed to find anyone to check me in. I even tried to phone to speak to someone but it took me straight to answerphone. When someone finally arrived, it looked like the chef who didn't appear too pleased that I had disturbed him. I was handed the key but that was about all. Not the most welcoming check in I have ever experienced. However, things did improve and the room was very nice and modern and the bed extremely comfortable. The rooms are located in a annex type building attached to the pub. I didn't eat in the hotel for dinner but the breakfast was nice although fairly limited, but I was happy with the English Breakfast. Although a Business traveller, I would be happy to return with my family if I was ever in the area again.
3 days in New Inn
Bedroom and bathroom were good - well equipped, comfortable and clean. Bar restaurant was OK but service slow and a bit unrefined. Staffing level appeared to be a problem, particularly in the kitchen where everything seemed to depend on one person. Food well cooked, menu a little limited but OK. Breakfast a bit basic - everything served on one plate and tea/coffe out of flasks!
Lovely quiet spot in Oxfordshire
Really friendly welcome in this country pub full of character. We had a lovely newly decorated double room, very comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast was excellent as was the real ale selection (3 on tap)
One night stay on a Saturday
This pub had rooms and ours was outstanding . The pub is a bit tired but with friendly staff who were helpful.
Great find in the Henley area
I stayed one night as I was attending a wedding nearby. I found the staff extremely helpful and welcoming. A very comfortable stay.
Chef at breakfast wore dirty whites, button missing and reeked of cigarettes. I suspect he had just been smoking and had come out of the kitchen to take our order!
Nice Country Pub
Room was lovely and breakfast was great.
great stay.
Very friendly local pub / hotel. great food and room was just right. Much better than the larger hotel chains in Reading, would definately stay again.
And relax....
We had a lovely stay at The New Inn. It is a very attractive for and well kept pub with friendly owners and staff. The decor and furnishings were of a high standard, the garden and area beautiful. Special thanks for loads of tea, coffee and sugar in the room! The only negatives to mention were our room had a bath but only had shower facilities in it so no long soak after a long walk and the pub itself was shut on Sunday evening so we had to go elsewhere for food.
Nice village pub with excellent home cooked food
Stayed here for 1 night on business. Room was pleasant and clean, with a comfy bed. The pub was nice inside (could do with a few more comfy lounging chairs) and the staff were attentive and very friendly The food was lovely, particularly the home made steak and kidney pie in suet crust - WOW!! I would happily stay here again.
