Great
I arrived really late and although reception was closed, they kindly made a key available. The chalet I was in was a bit tired, but clean. Breakfast was fine.
absolutely fabulous
Just ok. But staff very good.
Place was ok just a bit basic and could do with a new lick of paint. Staff were friendly and very good.
.
Amazing place to stay.
Such an amazing place to stay. Very friendly staff , rooms extremely comfortable and the view from room overlooking the fields was stunning. can definitely recommend and will be going there again .
Lovely stay, staff very welcoming , food excellent and accommodation cleanliness cannot be faulted.
Great Place; Even better staff
The place was great, facilities were good and the staff were even better.
Had a lovely 2 night stay here. Staff in reception, bar & restaurant were helpful & friendly. Room could of been a bit cleaner & the mattress was very uncomfortable, but the grounds & having the bar/restaurant there made up for it!
Basic hotel plenty of parking
Probably a 2 * property in my option. Basic hotel however basic price.
A one night stopover
A stop over on the way home from Scotland. Pleasant enough for one night. Food and service very good.
Stopped here for one night, it acceded my expectations, I don't have any complaints, I highly recommend stopping here.
On arrival, the reception staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Room was clean and tidy and beds were very comfortable so a great night sleep. We visited the bar for an evening meal, we arrived at 5:30pm but later realised that food was not served until 6pm, therefore the service on ordering the meal appeared somewhat disjointed the staff were very quiet and the servers may have been new to the venue as they appeared inexperienced - just required some communication to advise re the timings etc; that said the food was very good, well presented and delicious. Breakfast was upstairs and we received a friendly welcome and asked if we had eaten there before, we advised we hadn't and we were promptly told how the breakfast service worked, a much warmer reception than for the evening meal. Timings allowed for breakfast were short, however, we can understand for the summer months as different wedding parties may be booked. The grounds are lovely and we took a sneak peek inside the chapel, very pretty and we could easily imagine a wedding service taking place. We were only here for 1 night and overall enjoyed our stay, the welcoming reception team were, for us, the highlight.
A good place to chill.
An enjoyable stay with very helpful staff. Good food and drink.
Just really nice staff, excellent food and room, what else do you need?
Spotlessly clean and plenty of heat. wasn't what we expected. No communal lounge or conversation as to where to go. very strict for times. Last breakfast 9 and had to vacate room by 10. Provision in room very skimpy.
Convenient, picturesque and clean property just off the motorway with excellent staff service. Really warm welcome from check-in onwards which set the tone for the stay. All staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Little gem of a find
Great stay. Lovely breakdast central location friendly staff and great little rooms! Excellent place we will be back I bet it’s lovely in summer!
Great place to park up and enjoy the area.rooms clean and tidy and warm ! Staff extra nice
Overall good stay but could be better.
Overall a good stay however the bar was cold, breakfast was ok, not great lighting outsde chalets...would have been nice for a bit of warmth in the chalet on a cold wet day...which would have allowed the heat to build quicker...
Hidden gem.
First time here, a half way point on our journey. Large complex as it is a wedding venue. When we arrived a wedding came out of the forge complete with a piper a lovely surprise to greet you when you arrive. All aspects were very good, the only addition we would have liked was a unit in the bathroom to place your toiletries, it was an accessible room with a wet room, the only twin room left as we made a late decision to book, a very minor point overall. Could not find fault with anything and I am hard to please. Rooms being refurbished in the near future. We shall be staying again.
Superb
Incredible Hotel. Caring staff, Clean, plenty of free parking, on Motorway in less than a minute. All round excellent
Our stay at Mill Forge was an overnight stop, after travelling by motorcycle from the South of England, on the way to Aviemore. There was plenty of flat parking space for cars and bikes, and we managed to park right outside our room. The accommodation was as described on the website, with a good shower, although the TV is quite small. Our evening meal was excellent, with good sized portions, just what was required after a long day in the saddle! Breakfast was also very good, although the toasters took a while to toast the bread, so get it in early, if you want toast with you breakfast. The staff were very friendly, and provided good service. I would stay at the Mill Forge again
Bar person Angus was brilliant a great face to the hotel company, even with a very much active and strong wedding crowd to deal with!
We loved this little stop on our trip! The staff was so friendly and the grounds are beautiful! The food was delicious for both dinner and breakfast. The rooms are roomy and clean. Would highly recommend!
A good all round option.
Lovely
Lovely surroundings, ideally placed just off the motorway, but you wouldn’t know you were close to it. Nice traditional farm style bar and restaurant. Really enjoyed our stay, the only criticism is that the wifi was not working and when reported we were told it hadn’t been for some time.
Tired mattress
The mattress in room 6 was very thin and uncomfortable. Broken nights sleep due to discomfort. The stay was otherwise excellent
Regular visitor
Relaxing, good food, friendly staff, very accommodating and understanding.
Not just for weddings!
A nice wee gem of a place. The staff are amazing. Courteous, professional but very friendly & accommodating. The room was one of several that had a door which led on to a beautiful courtyard. The surroundings were well kept & the property was in good condition. The only negative was the noise from the motorway but it didn’t really detract from the overall experience.
Beautiful stay at The Mill Forge
Staff were helpful friendly always on hand to help especially after my husbands limb amputation he had done 4 days ago check in was easy and is a beautiful place to stay
Beautiful place
What a lovely little place this is !! Staff and manager very friendly and helpful. Cute motel style rooms, beautiful gardens and lovely bar. Breakfast was very nice too. We will definitely be back.
Great service
Staff very friendly and helpful. Great food would recommend to stay again lovely grounds
Good stay - checkout/breakfast too early
Beds were uncomfortable. Breakfast finishes too early at 9am and check out is also very early with a checkout time of 10am.
Excellent stay
Excellent stay could not fault anything
Kitchen was good i enjoyed a good meal. Room was OK. No Wifi connection despite them saying it was working, business travelers take note. Overall though great location en route to Glasgow, decent pricing for the package.
Road trip to Scotland
Very good chalet accommodation. Clean and tidy. Exellent food. Need a decent draught beer. Only Thwaites Smooth available.
Enjoyable
I enjoyed my stay and was happy with the mill forge
Forge
Room was ok but no where to sit in room area only one chair in hall way also bed was like a brick could not get comfortable
Would book again
Booked one night stay and as far as the room and all the staff are concerned we have no complaints. Unfortunately in the room next to ours we had a couple who were arguing at full volume at various times throughout the night/early morning. No fault at all of the hotel who couldn't apologise enough when we checked out. We also had an evening meal in the bar which was very good and a full Scottish breakfast. So 10/10 for The Mill Forge we wouldn't hesitate booking again. If you are the couple reading this review it's time to move on and call it a day... your relationship is a non starter...
Good Food and Accommodation
The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, we both had a meal in the restaurant of salmon which was good, and banoffee pie which was delicious. The next morning we had Full Scottish Breakfast with plenty of toast and coffee. The staff were very helpful and were happy to show us the Forge where we could get married, the gardens & reception rooms.
The Mill Forge Lockerbie.
The rooms were spotless and welcoming. Very pleasant staff on the reception and in the restaurant and we were made to feel very welcome by everyone. A special mention for Ian in the restaurant who was really attentive and friendly, well done to him!
Great price & position
A great price for a clean & quiet (bedroom) hotel. The staff were very friendly, helpful & went out of their way to help with dietary requirements when ordering our meal. Parking was plentiful & so close to M6. Our only concern was our friends hairdryer wasn’t very strong, so she would recommend to take one if you needed it. Ours was fine
Amazing place to stay quiet and comfortable staff were amazing so helpful and friendly. Cosy rooms very clean food was delicious
Beautiful Place for a Runaway BridePlanned wedding
Such a beautiful place. Anyone considering a small family wedding should go here. All staff very helpful from photographer to Pied Piper & last but not least the lovely make up artist hired for the day. She went over and beyond to make my daughter's wedding day very special. She even recommended someone in the town close by to fix my daughter's botched up wedding bouquet that had not been done right from our own home town.
Noisy - close to an overhead motorway Smelly - kitchen extractors delivering fat odours There was a wedding taking place and so a lot of drinking and swearing and children were running around unsupervised , not a good time for us to visit . Would have worked maybe if the room rate was a lot lower but at the rate charged our expectations were higher . Had to pay on entry at 2pm checkin but office was closed by time we quit just after 5pm Booking made using American Express card that property would not accept !
Gretna Overnight Stay
Last minute booking. Very Nice Annexe part of hotel and Bar and Breakfast facilities excellent and totally Covid-19 friendly
Stayed one night on our way west. Room was small but clean. Staff were helpful. Satisfactory breakfast.
Five star accommodation
Very comfortable overnight stop off. The friendliness of the staff from reception to bar and waiters was excellent. Will recommend to friends who are always looking for a good stop over place near to motorway but very quiet.
Anivesary
Had a great day and night at the Mill Forge
overnight stay
Very convenient for overnight stay on way up to Pitlochry. Staff were very attentive and followed COVID restrictions strictly. Evening meal and breakfast were delicious.
Great spot to stay, friendly service. Will definitely use again.
Good stopover and happy with our choice.
Close to the motorway so a good stopping off place. Room and dining room quite despite this. Room comfortable and adequate though no housekeeping during the two night stay - probably because of Covid-19 but this wasn't pointed out to us. Restaurant had a simple menu but the food was good. Breakfasts excellent and staff friendly and welcoming.
Good place to stay
Excellent service, friendly staff, superb pub food, room bit basic but clean, very powerful shower. beautiful gardens, very close to motorway. So overall a very pleasant stay and excellent value for money
Reasonably priced break
Nice stay and very pleasant staff in bar/restaurant. Our room was opposite the kitchen extractor which made it noisy and smelly if you opened window.
Great stop over spot
Convenient location as close to motorway. Large clean rooms with parking close to your door. Friendly staff hearty breakfast
Stopover
Excellent location and a good stopover. Staff very friendly and welcoming. The bedroom quite basic although the bathroom had been upgraded and was lovely. Breakfast in the upstairs restaurant excellent!
Excellent couldn't have asked for better
This is a lovely place to stay, it's spotlessly clean, the staff are fantastic and would really go out of there way to help us. The food was also excellent my wife and I had a bar meal in the night time after we got married down in gretna green, it has been the only meal in a long time I couldn't finish due to the size of it, also very reasonably priced for a hotel. Would definitely stay here again.
Great stop over hotel
A great stop for our journey north, close to the motorway . Would have liked better directions to find the hotel.
Lovely place to stay, staff were very welcoming and freshly cooked breakfast was yummy.
A lovely, welcoming placeto stay.
The Mill Forge is a lovely place to stay, warm and welcoming from the word go. Primarily a beautiful wedding venue it also lends it'self perfectly to a short break or an overnight en route stoppover. Lovely little suites are arranged around pretty courtyards, the bar looks more like an inn and serves good tasty bar meals, steaks or salmon or burgers and other choices at reasonable cost. I loved the generous amounts on the hospitality tray and the included Scottish breakfast was freshly coooked to order and was delicious - there are lighter choices too and cereals, juices and toast all come as part of the very tasty package. The staff are lovely, and nothing is too much trouble. They gave us lots of great sightseeing ideas for our 4 night stay There are disabled suites and as all the suites are ground floor, accessed by only one small step and most have parking in the courtyards outside your door they are suitable for people with mobility problems - there was a comfy chair just inside the front door in the ones we stayed in and mine -24- had a huge wheelchair accessible shower too. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Nice staff and breakfast Quiet at night good for sleep
Very friendly staff in both the restaurant and the bar. Checking in and out was very quick and easy
So accommodating even with a very late check in, it's a bit of a mystery finding your room as they're all like little holiday cottages.
Good location. Friendly staff. Pub style food as expected
Great place
Great
Excellent in every way
Absolutely cannot fault this excellent establishment, from the warm welcome to the charming bar & restaurant staff. It’s spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water & the towels were large & soft. We ate in the restaurant & from the wide choice available had what was probably the best steak pie either of us had ever tasted, crammed with good quality meat & served on hot plates. We have noted this hotel & will certainly be breaking the journey from Somerset to Perthshire here again.
Nice stop
Perfect stop for us travelling down the motorway, just off the road. Staff are really nice and it’s very good value for money.
Cheap but not good value!
Room was very small, and the TV even smaller. Accommodation was in a separate block which was good as there was a wedding on with a disco. WiFi was terrible so couldn’t even browse the internet to compensate for the tiny TV! Certainly wouldn’t rush back unfortunately.
Amazing. Well Beyond our expectations.
Beautiful place in lovely settings. Very friendly and helpful staff, great food.
The only problem was the high noise levels in the bar, dining and breakfast areas due to the stone walls. I suggest that you consider adding some sound absorbing panels.
Unique layout of guest rooms over multiple, lovely, old brick buildings. Stayed in same room (8) as our first visit 2 weeks ago. In-room TV broken and reported then. Still not fixed.
Liked the unique, old but well-maintained layout of the property. Restaurant food and service was very good. Main disappointments were noise from motorway, poor wifi reception and very bad TV reception (choppy and pixelated).
accommoations very good. next to highway which is a little noisy. very clean. friendly service
I stopped on the way home after a business trip, had a great stay again. Will be back again before my wedding.
Lovey stay at the mill would definitely return, excellent breakfast
Mill Forge - country delight
Quaint accommodation with bar and restaurant close by. Two issue wifi was very patchy and the country smell. The smell is to be expected due to the proximity of farms etc.
Amazing friendly staff and fantastic location
We stayed here with our family and friends for ouf wedding, we booked an extra night after everyone had left for home as this place is fantastic, the staff make you feel like you are the only guests there, nothing was to much trouble for them, any request was delt with a smile and with no effort at all. We have recommended this venue to others who are thinking of booking for their wedding. We will definitely be back here, especially for our anniversary next year.
Lovely place, well set out. A nice change to get a single room that still gives you space. Lovely big soft towels, and a luggage rack at a decent height!!
Comfortable stay, good amenities, easy to locate The Mill Forge
Beautiful grounds to wander in, very nicely kept. I liked the way the rooms were laid out into almost cottage style units.. The restaurant staff were excellent, helpful and suitably attentive.
Over night stay.
Stayed for one night .Nice clean room. Good evening meal and very nice breakfast.
Great value
This is the second time I have stayed here, the service is superb, I am always made very welcome, all the staff are really helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant both in the evening and at breakfast is really good, and good value. Negatives......if I am being picky, the rooms (both inside and out) might need a refresh, looking a bit tired
Being able to eat dinner on site was handy and menu very good. Room very pleasant and would have catered for a family of 4; not bad for £57! Full Scottish breakfast also excellent.
Excellent weekend stay
Weekend getaway we couldn’t ask for better to be honest. Extremely quiet and comfortable warm stay, breakfast was excellent and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful
Been a few times Fantastic rooms Very friendly staff Beautiful foid
staff couldn't do enough for us, treat us all as individuals, would very highly recommend to others Thank you to everyone and great food
Mill forge hotel
Or stay at the mill forge was excellent I was a but worried about the quality of the place because it was quite cheap however my worries where not to be as the buildings and staff where excellent
Absolutely loved it, bar and restaurant staff made us feel so welcom, food was lovely and atmisphere was nice and relaxed.
Excellent value! Location v. good for M6 travel. Great service & v. pleasant staff. Food good. Hope to be back!
Value for money
Value for money. Great location, easy to get to & back on to the motorway in the morning.
Good location and helpful staff
Good location, staff were very helpful, very thin walls so you can hear the people in the room next door.
A great place to stay and eat 4 Star !!!
This was a great surprise, booked at the last minute with a late arrival, all the staff could not have been more helpful. They kept the restaurant open an extra 5 minutes so I could drop off my luggage. The staff in the restaurant were really attentive, the food ws good quality, good sized portions and good value. The room was nice and clean, there is a little bit of road noise from the M74, but I booked it because it was near it.
Just beautiful place and all helpful
Beautiful place to stay. We were just travelling past the area and didn't plan on staying but it was just lovely
Fantastic clean single room.
Well worth considering
Would stay again if working in the area. The only slight grumble is that the Wi-Fi strength was not great and work area not deep enough for a keyboard. But I'm nit-picking
Cosy hotel
We stayed overnight on our to Greenock to collect our new car. The hotel was very nice, clean and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. As well were too late to order food they suggested we order a takeaway to eat in our room. They provided plates and cutlery for us to use. The breakfast was delicious and there was a lot of choice.

Accessibility
Room was supposedly "accessible" however there were two steps to enter. Shower was inaccessible to anyone with mobility issues being up 2 steep steps. Breakfast was served upstairs!!
