All good

We had paid a £10 pp deposit on the evening meals. When coming to pay the staff claimed no knowledge of our deposits. It is not acceptable to have to make breakfast menu choices the day before. I have never come across this at any other hotel

Loved everything

Amazing hotel in a perfect location. Everything was superb, the room, the bar, the cozy fire, the drinks, the breakfast all brilliant. We tried hard to find a fault and all we could come up with was the room was too warm through the night but even then they had left us a Dyson fan in the room that we forgot about.

Beautiful property and very friendly staff. Car park is a little tight but got parked no problem.

We have stayed here before and enjoy the friendliness of the staff and the food choices available. We had slight issue with our food one night but they sorted it completely to our satisfaction. Thankyou for your service

Fantastic stay, reallt friendly staff, amazing bar and restaurant and a lovely room. Only downside was expedia overcharging for the room compared to booking direct!

Had a great stay. The room was comfortable and all the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal that was excellent as was the breakfast. A great location for exploring the Peak District. We will definitely be back.

Anyone who rates this hotel less than a 5* don’t listen to them, it’s safe, clean, warm, staff are brilliant and the food and drink options are 10/10 Parking is great (make sure you get the code before you leave) Showers are beautiful, towels are beautiful, beds so comfy and the tv’s have all the apps to watch lots of programmes Book this hotel and we will be returning!!!😀👍

Overall good stay

Poor breakfast choice

Lovely hotel. Lovely staff. I would stay again. Rooms were stylish. The only snag was the bed was cluttered with super annoying cushions that drove us mad! We had to keep cramming them into the wardrobe to get rid of them! The restaurant seemed rather overpriced. But it was a super hotel.

Looks great but doesn’t deliver

The George could be good, but just isn’t. With a view of the rubbish bins from our room, the consistent noise of the air vents from the kitchen all day, our room wasn’t even cleaned (and we only got back from a walk at 3pm!), the service in the restaurant and bar took 20-30 mins to even place an order, the food menu sounds great but is over cooked and not great. The quality of fit out is good, the execution isn’t and just the basics. There were enough staff working, so it must be poor management and limited coaching / upskill as the staff walk past you, head down and avoid eye contact. The bins could be moved, the staff could be managed and trained better - all fixable, but not a good experience.

Lovely place to stay over Xmas. Staff are very polite and attentive. The room was very nice. All walking distance to shops and bars. Definitely recommend ❤️

A lovely venue with amazing staff. Great quality food and breakfast and dinner, a cost bar area and great room with nice touches.

Few days away

Strangely located in the basement with no wifi. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food nice. Good location for ongoing travels.

Had great time. Great food and service and a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. We found it relaxing sand ideally situation location wise for walking and use of the Hatherssge outdoor pool just 5/10 mins walk from the hotel. A must of you stay at the George. Only recently reopened in June 2024 means it is fresh with tasteful decor. Recommend highly and enjoy.

Comfortable hotel with great staff and food

We had eaten at the George on several occasions before and therefore knew the food was be good. It still is! Our room was comfortable, the bathroom well equipped but the view was of the staff car park and bins. Even so it was quiet. The best feature about our 3 night stay was the excellent staff. Without exception they were very polite and friendly.

No sleep

Noisy on the road side. Noisy over the bar until after midnight. Moved to the rear but then very noisy with kitchen fans & heating system outside the window that went all night. Waited over 30 mins for cooked breakfast to arrive & had to leave for an appointment before it came. No wi-fi in the rooms & patchy in the bar/reception area. Rooms nicely decorated & clean.

The bed was the worst I have ever slept on, very hard and uncomfortable, so much so we had to cut short our trip due to lack of sleep. Our room was adjacent to a family room, so we had constant noise through the night, not to mention a radio left on continuously next door until very early hours. The staff made the stay welcoming, the food was mediocre.

Gorgeous hotel!!

We had such a lovely stay at the George! The food was delicious, the staff really friendly and helpful, the decor was really luxurious. Our room was cozy, but clean and comfortable, I definitely would come back!!

Amazing stay!

Absolutely amazing stay! Relaxing, beautiful room, staff were really accommodating!

We had a lovely stay here. We will definitely be back! Everyone was welcoming and helpful. Only issue was we were in a room by the road and it did disturb our sleep, but this couldn’t be helped. Next time we would ask for a room at the back. And as it is an old hotel, you can hear other guests through the walls. But again, this didn’t distract from a lovely stay. Restaurant was amazing too.

Stunning property and surrounding area, staff excellent, food fabulous, 10/10

Nice hotel, but room for improvement

Good hotel but over-priced. Comfortable room, good atmosphere in bar and restaurant, friendly young staff. Wifi didn't work in bedroom, despite being reset by staff. Breakfast was awful - 50 minutes wait for any food (no buffet) and then arrived cold.

Great place for stopover in Peak District

Great rooms and place to stay, nice and chilled and perfect stop over in the peak district, great staff and shame was only a one night stay but would happily go again.

We were over the bar and at the front of a busy road. The first night we had a party of ladies who made a noise till 1:30am.

Clean and nice amenities

Great value for the money paid

Lovely, clean rooms and decor in general. Staff friendly and efficient- in particular breakfast waitress on Wednesday was super! Breakfast was really nice and atmosphere was pleasantly casual. Parking busier on weekends but plenty of space during weekdays- just drive past automatic barrier and use code to leave again. Easy process to follow and parking feels secure. Free teas , coffees, and sparkling and still waters in the room are appreciated. Thanks for a great stay. Would book again!

The ideal country hotel

Everything about the stay was excellent. The general ambiance of the place was good and all the staff were excellent. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and the food was good. The breakfast was excellent and the plate was hot The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy and the sausage was very tasty.. The bedroom was large and comfortable but our one complaint is that the bed was very firm and the pillows were like bricks. That may be down to our personal preference. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely rooms, spacious and within walking distance to all of Hathersage including the pool. We also ate at The George in the evening and had breakfast included - the food was great. We would definitely come again!

Excellent facilities

Everything really top quality, cant fault it. Think I got a very good rate on for the stay, hope to return soon. Even good local beer in the bar.

We had a lovely stay, the hotel was very modern and the rooms had everything we needed. All of the staff were efficient and so friendly. The food we had was amazing and great location for walks. We will definitely be back.

Lovely comfortable hotel

Very comfortable, friendly hotel with lovely rooms.

We loved our stay here, the staff in particular are superb, they couldn’t do enough to help us which was even more appreciated given that we had our toddler with us. The rooms are beautifully decorated, quiet and large. My only criticism is that there was a bit of black mould around the bath/shower in our bathroom which needs bleaching, otherwise everywhere was spotless. We will be back for sure.

Lovely dinner and breakfast. Room was good, One slight downside was I looked out onto what I think was a staff car park and also had the recycling bins. So it was quite noisy in the morning.

Always a great base when visiting the Peak District. Lots of walks from the hotel

The hotel was lovely, as were the staff. A loud extraction fan could be heard in the room until after 11pm, and this started up at around 6:30am the next morning, waking us up. Really disappointing.

Excellent

We had a relaxing visit to The George, loved our room and the layout. We were able to sit and enjoy a drink and enjoyed two amazing meals and breakfasts. Will definitely be visiting again.

Warm, cosey, friendly staff, great atmosphere, lovely food and local gins. Only gripe is that the room was noisy with constant sound like a bathroom fan and this really disturbed our sleep. Informed staff and tried to help.

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice a hotel this was. It had easy access to the town and plenty of walking opportunities right out the door. The food options were excellent and they had plenty of choices for vegan and non-vegetarian members of our party.

We had a lovely stay at the George, its a beautiful building inside and out and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Food was nice. We had a wait of around 40 minutes for our evening meal but it quite busy. Would definitely stay again.

Stunning hotel! A must stay!

We couldn’t recommend this hotel enough. We stayed in room 17 (family room) we had lots of space and the room was beautifully decorated. The staff are amazing! So helpful and friendly everyday! The food?!? Is brilliant! We ate here two nights because it was that good! We will definitely return in the future

Absolutely loved our 1 night stay here! My family and I shared a family suite which was stunning. Beautiful decor and traditional styling complete this room, I was blown away with the quality of the fixtures and fittings. Child’s single made up on arrival and extra towels left for her. Radio and dimmed lights were on as we entered the room, setting a lovely ambience. They had also left a fan on as a really warm arrival day and we thought that was a lovely touch. Hairdryer in the room, which is very handy and plenty of mirrors near sockets, which for some reason is becoming a rarity in hotels these days… well not here! All the lovely little extras made our stay one of which we won’t forget! Plenty of complementary tea and coffee in the room, bottles of still and sparkling water, again complementary which added to the luxurious feel. We really were amazed by the whole experience. We dined in the restaurant at night and the staff were second to none… very attentive and breakfast was amazing! We can’t wait to return!
