Colonial williamsburg
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Also quit to get everything that we had needed.
Perfect location, helpful staff, very clean. Basic breakfast included was tasty, though a bit limited. Pleasant terrace adjacent to dining area for breakfast or relaxation. Bed a bit firm for my tastes, but overall would not hesitate to stay again and definitely recommend Fife & Drum.
This is a amazing place, great location! Room was spacious with nice amenities. I would recommend this facility to anyone visiting Williamsburg
We always enjoy staying at Fife & Drum!
Perfect location for exploring Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary! The hosts were great, the room was very quiet and comfortable, and the continental breakfast was excellent. We will definitely come back and stay again. Highly recommend!!
The Fife and Drum is a charming inn right in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg. It’s a little old and creaky, but that’s part of the rustic experience. My wife and I would definitely stay here again.
Convenient spot
Comfortable and convenient. Felt more like a small hotel than a B&B.
Very nice B&B! The proprietors take great care to ensure their guests are comfortable. Fife and Drum’s location makes it very easy to walk to everything you want to see in Williamsburg. I would recommend without hesitation.
Great location!
short getaway
We have stayed at the Fife and Drum before and enjoyed ourselves. Its centrally located within walking distance to great shops and restaurants. Billy (the owner) is always kind and helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. Will definitely stay there again.
I've been to Williamsburg several times and The Fife & Drum is my favorite place to stay. The location is perfect to explore Colonial Williamsburg and the campus of W&M. The owners and staff make you feel so welcome and at home. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, comfortable and have all the amenities you need for your stay. I'm already planning my next stay!
Hard to find, easy to hear others walking ont floors. Room was very nice.
Great stay at Fife and Drum. Very quaint Inn in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. Able to walk everywhere. Our host Bill was charming, informative and very helpful. Coffee and a variety of breakfast items served in dining area. Would definitely recommend a stay there!
Enjoyed the neighborhood
Proximity to the colonial area of Williamsburg is a big plus for this Inn. But also to the lovely restaurants of Dog St. and Merchant Square. We had excellent lodgings in a lovely relaxed environment on the second floor of one of the retail bulidings on the corner. If you cannot climb stairs, this Inn is not for you, but otherwise, I believe anyone would enjoy the coffee area, good beds, and quaint surroundings and colonial themed furnishings of the rooms and the breakfast/lobby area.
Very friendly & knowledgeable innkeeper. Immaculate.
I have stayed at this property several times, and I will continue to stay here whenever I am in Williamsburg. The rooms are neat, clean, and comfortable. The rooftop patio area is divine. You can't beat the location for walkability to the historic area and Market Square shops. The continental breakfast is ample, but if you want a full breakfast there is a divine coffee shop next door. My only suggestion is that the TV sets should be replaced with ones that have larger screens, but who comes to Williamsburg to watch tv?
I expected much more for the price, almost $400 for 3 adults it was shabby, tired, and there was no real breakfast. It was not dirty but impossible/inadequate for 3 adults. Uncomfortable. Inn keeper was kind.

Fantastic B&B. The owners run it on daily basis and don’t miss a sign to detail. Friendly, knowledgeable and well managed!
The photo of the property on their website is misleading, it shows a corner building which leads you to think the entire building is the Inn. After finally locating the Inn which is only identifiable via a small flag, you are faced with a steep staircase (17) steps to enter the Inn which is on the second floor of the building. We were an older couple and had to carry our luggage up and down the steep staircase (not mentioned in the website). What would a handicapped person do? False advertising at its worse. Also, housekeeping service was only available if you requested it,fortunately we had otherwise we would have to make our own bed and replace towels on our own. What a ripoff. Also the room and tv were miniscule, the tv was about a 10 inch screen, shall I go on?
Essentially a nice B&B on second floor above businesses on Prince George St. (across from Baskin Robbins and Blue Talon). Good continental breakfast, good parking options and very close to W&M. Great location for Colonial Williamsburg.
The staff is fantastic! Very friendly and considerate.
This is a very historical area, there are lots of things to see. Easy to walk to all the locations. Good food and the Fife And Drumm Hotel were great. Parking is included.
Great Location In Williamsburg
Fife & Drum is in a great location. We were able to walk to the historic Williamsburg area, and many restaurants in under 5 minutes. The innkeeper, Mr. Scruggs, is very helpful with info about ticketing, in addition to baggage. We had a very pleasant stay.
We were pleased at the welcoming feeling provided by this establishment. The facilities and staff were thoughtful. Everything came together very well in this laid back impeccable colonial atmosphere.
Perfect getaway
We stay in Williamsburg several times throughout the year. So glad to have found this gem! Such a charming Inn located in the heart of Historic Williamsburg. One mile walk from Merchant’s Square. Great cafe/coffee shop located adjacent to the Inn. We enjoyed a scenic morning walk in historic Williamsburg just a step outside of the Inn! Definitely planning many stays here again in the future.
Williamsburg sojourn
For those desiring an amalgam of history and contemporary conviences, The Fife and Drum is an ideal setting with its location in Merchants Square next door to to Colonial Williamsburg. There is nothing mass produced here; rather the beautifully furnished rooms have detailed one-of-a-kind features, such as a telelvision ensconced in a clapboard house and original art. A fireplace warms the breakfast room that also holds reading material and wooden games, whilst a few steps will lead you up to the peaceful patio that overlooks the pedestrian street adjacent to shops and the historical site. The owners are replete with local knowledge. No car was needed; everything one could wish for was in easy walking distance.
Lovely charming place. I was very confused in finding the parking what looking at the two maps provided. I finally realized that both maps are upside down, with south at the top. I printed them and turned them around, but then all the labels were upside down. This is crazy,
The operators were very friendly, and it was a very high quality experience.
Getaway
We found the B&B to be right in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg. We really didnt need to drive anywhere once we checked in. Room was clean and comfortable. We had a short stay but will definitely stay there again.
Beautiful location and wonderful staff
Absolutely lovely staff and beautiful inn in the Heart of Colonial Williamsburg. We will definitely be back!
I loved everything about my stay! It was so charming and I loved the historic vibes. I wish I could’ve maximized my time at this B&B because we loved it!
This was a very pleasant stay. The location is great and the service was good. We enjoyed the William and Mary room we stayed in. Everything was very clean. The only thing lacking was any kind of real breakfast but that is because of the restrictions with COVID-19 right now. So I appreciated they tried to compensate with a small selection of grab and go type items.
Only one block from old section of Williamsburg. SO convenient! Staff super friendly and supportive.
Centrally located, the Inn allowed me to walk historic thoroughfares after a quick coffee, and to pop out for steamed mussels and a glass of wine after a late afternoon nap. I spent quiet, restful evenings and enjoyed chatting with Billy, the owner, over breakfast. It turns out he owned a gas station transformed into an oysters and tacos bistro where I had a superb lunch. Billy pointed me to a wine store offering good bottles at $10. I left rested, refreshed, and ready to return.
Great location
Great location, clean, very good hosts
The Fife and Drum is the perfect little getaway place in Colonial Williamsburg that was in the middle of everything. We walked to almost every destination we were going to, the food choices right down the street were great and the caretakers are gracious and friendly. The rooms had cute Colonial touches from the lantern in the closet (if needed) to the old style waste cans, it has charm all throughout the inn.
My wife and I loved our time at the Fife and Drum Inn. It was in the perfect location. It was so clean and perfectly decorated. Billy and Sharon were super nice. When we return to Williamsburg with our two children, we’ll definitely be staying at the Fife and Drum.
Great stay!
Great stay. Billy was a great host. Very informative...clean B&B with great proximity to downtown historic district. Comfortable, quiet- easy check in and plenty of refreshments and goodies especially when arriving later in the day after a long ride. He even saved me 49 minutes off a trip as we continued south the next day and took the James River ferry! Thank you! Highly recommended
Very nice place and comfortable
Wonderful place. My son & I went as we were going on a history tour of Jamestown & Yorktown. Very well located and my son particularly enjoyed the free hot chocolate. Rooms were nice and clean. Son would've wished for a computer desk for his laptop but I used the common room. Technically the parking is not on-site but it's just across the street
Excellent location...Excellent host
The owners, Sharon and Billy, made us feel like we were at home. A perfect spot in town to spend a couple of nights.
A true gem in the middle of Williamsburg
This was a great find for us in Williamsburg, and if you want to be in a very convenient location hosted by really friendly and service-oriented owners this is definitely the place. Billy and Sharon S. were not only wonderful hosts but attended to our every need. The room was great with a 17th century theme but appointed with all the niceties one would want. The owners are locals who pride themselves in continuing the great hospitality that Williamsburg has provided since it was founded. Not only are they well-versed but know the history and legacy of all the local history. If you are coming to look at the College of W&M for possible attendance there, look no further than this Inn for your travel plans. We highly recommend the Fife and Drum and when you travel to Williamsburg, do yourself a favor and get the treat of staying in a setting that continues the great hospitality afforded in this wonderful City. Quick getaway
We arrived a bit after check in and owners had a simplified alternative for us. Room was cozy Location was excellent to all shopping and historic Colonial Williamsburg sites. We loved our trip and would revisit at same property maybe try a different room the next stay
We will never stay anywhere else when we visit Williamsburg. The owner was great! He gave us special tips to help us on our excursions and told us about locals spots that ended up being a highlight of our trip. The Inn was beautiful! Our room was cozy and spotless, felt right at home!
Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, great location
Warmth in Williamsburg
Unique hotel, convenient location, friendly accommodating staff with good cookies!! Warning there are stairs but Billy the owner was kind enough to help us with ours. The beds are only ok as far a comfort goes, but the place really grows on you, after three nights we were sad to leave.
It’s a small B&B that is walking distance to shops, restaurants and Colonial Williamsburg
Nice place with excellent location. Staff is very solicitous and helpful. Rooms are very cozy.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and location of the Fife & Drum immensely. Billy and Sharon are very agreeable hosts and know the area well. The room was comfortable, and the common area was very pleasant. We would definitely stay here again to enjoy the local charm when visiting the area.
It was great we love going to Williamsburg except for all this virus mess and not being able to go in stores without a mask
A quaint little B& B in the midst of downtown. Absolutely lovely! Some streets have been altered to allow for more street dining- a lovely way to work through the challenges of the pandemic.

Excellent. Old world B&B styling. A bit small but just as expected. Billy and his wife are awesome.
The Inn is so friendly. The location is great. Williamsburg is open and there aren’t many tourists yet. The Fife and Drum is the perfect place to stay!
Wonderful Visit
The Proprietors truly know how to make folks feel welcome. Perfect location to enjoy Williamsburg...simply step out of the front door and off you go. Don't forget to indulge in the homemade cookies!!! We will be back.
Best Hotel Experience in Williamsburg. EVER!
We arrived during the early stages of the coronavirus crisis. The owners were very informative and accommodating. They also recommended an outdoor tourguide who gave us a very fun and fact filled 90 minute touir. We did our due diligence to keep social distance from everyone. Nice breakfast. We've been to Williamsburg over 20 times. We most definitely will stay again!
The bunk beds made our cottage a fun place to stay for our 11 & 13 yr old daughters.
The rooms are positively charming. The location ideal and convenient. A personal touch stay.
Very Nice
The Fife & Drum was very nice. Our room was comfortable and clean. You can't beat the location.....everything is a short walk. You should know that the inn is on the second floor and that the climb up the stairs is pretty long and steep. The desk clerk was very helpful with our bag, but this was problem for me and might be for others. There is no mention of this on the website. Breakfast was unusual but good.
Best of Williamsburg Inns!
Absolutely a wonderful place to stay footsteps from Colonial Williamsburg. Great neighborhood stores and food. Easy in easy out. Make this you next getaway!
Excellent location. Very accommodating owner ad staff.
Great Historical Fall/Winter Holiday
Excellent location in the historical area. The rooms are clean, quiet and nicely decorated, however our Suite could have used one additional chair. There is one long flight of stairs up from street to main room level. Staff is friendly and helpful. Your reserved parking is close. Restaurants and shops are in close proximity for easy walking. Bed and Breakfast Hotels are special because you can more easily meet and talk with other patrons in the public spaces (small lounge). There is electronic card entry to the building after hours. You can view entrance and orientation from street on Google Earth, Street view. There is no curbside off/on loading zone, so quick double park with emergency flashers may help you avoid a ticket until you move the vehicle to your reserved parking space nearby.
It was quaint with furnishing in keeping with colonial style
Friendly, nice place to stay. Walking distance for us to visit our Granddaughter at William and Mary. A perfect stay.
The location was fantastic and the staff was helpful. We would have liked more whole grain at breakfast.
Such an amazing getaway from the big city. This place has charm for days.
Great location Very clean & comfortable Staff v nice & professional
Everything exceeded our expectations. We arrived late and keys as well as directions for parking and room were taped to the door just as we were told. When we saw our room we knew we had made a perfect choice. It was just the right size for 2 and it was just a few steps from the common breakfast room. Bed was great as was the shower. The breakfast was wonderful both mornings we were there , and the owner provided excellent details on where to pick up our Williamsburg tickets as well as suggestions on which buildings too tour and programs to experience. The property is located right in the center of Merchants Square where all of the shops and restaurants are located. This is also close to the old town where we spent a wonderful day. We plan to go back again and we will certainly pick the Fife and Drum.
Fife and Drum is First Rate!!!
Billy and his coworkers at the Fife and Drum were WONDERFUL...from the cookies & lemonade provided all day, to the fabulous breakfast (with bread pudding and homemade peach sauce), to the darling room, and amazing restaurant recommendations. The location cannot be beat with walking proximity to Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary, AND a free parking space. We would 100% stay here again!!!
The Fife and Drum Inn has been one of our favorite inns to stay in! It was super clean, had a good sized room and wonderful tiled shower in the bathroom. The hosts were friendly, accommodating and informative! The breakfast was amazing, especially the Peach Creme Brûlée's! We could not beat the location, easy walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg, shopping and restaurants! We would definitely return and stay longer!
We liked the facility it was within walking distance to all of Williamsburg. The food was good and staff excellent.
Nice little secret
Really nice, small hotel/inn. non-traditional in that it's on second floor of a retail strip, but in a very quiet neighborhood with wonderful location. Building is historic and lots of displays and pieces of memorabilia in the rooms and common areas telling about local history. I really liked that. Because of the hard wood flooring throughout, you can hear footsteps outside your room sometimes. Virginia, the host went beyond hospitality to make us feel welcome and made the breakfast served in the breakfast room herself - so more like a B&B from that perspective. I will stay here from now on when I visit Williamsburg.
The property was excellent. Service was great. The location was ideally located next to Colonial Williamsburg. We would definitely stay there again.
Anniversary getaway
We stayed 2 nights and have decided to return in December. The location was perfect, the room was very clean and beautiful. The owner, Sharon, was delightful and so friendly. I was worried about noise as we were in the room next to the ice machine. I never heard a sound when my husband got ice. I also never heard any of the other guests in their room. The bed was very comfortable and the towels were thick and soft. The full breakfast was delicious and not skimpy at all. No worries about parking due to having a reserved spot.
Charming and friendly Business/holiday trip!
Lovely bed and breakfast in a fantastic spot in town. Those who run it couldn't be nicer and my first morning I slept through breakfast and a wonderful woman from New York who worked there was kind enough to serve me breakfast way after it was done for the morning. Now that's hospitality!
The room was very cute and the bed was comfy. We loved the breakfast in the morning, and it felt like having breakfast with friends. The hosts were there mingling with the guests and answering any questions we had about Historic Williamsburg and Jamestown, and gave suggestions about the area restaurants etc. The Inn itself is a little hard to find since it's upstairs and there is just a doorway amid local shops. You will need to carry your luggage upstairs.
Property is located in walking distance of everything. That’s what we loved! The Inn is quiet and cozy and their breakfast was delicious. Parking is right there and it’s free.
Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms and beds. Yummy breakfast. Free parking.
So cute and convenient. Delicious breakfast, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Highly recommend!
Fantastic Location to see Colonial Williamsburg
Excellent location. Parked the car and walked for the few days we were there. Hosts had fantastic local knowledge which made the most of our limited time there. Free breakfast was outstanding, used colonial recipes for main dish, which really helped get us into the spirit of the area. Although we generally aren't fans of B&B's, we'd stay there again.
The proprietors and staff of the Fife and Drum Inn are very warm and welcoming, with a genuine caring for their guests that was obvious the moment we met them. The breakfasts served at the inn were a great way to begin each day. They were fresh, warm, and inviting. The room we stayed in (Restoration) and the common areas of the inn were clean and well appointed, obviously taken care of with a great deal of pride. The inn's proximity to the Colonial Williamsburg attraction is really appealing and made for a more pleasant visit. It is also within very easy walking distance to several restaurants and a fantastic coffee house (Aroma), located just down the stairs. If you want to stay in the heart of Williamsburg and be treated to great hospitality and food, make the easy choice and stay at the Fife and Drum Inn.
Quaint place to stay, a quick walk to Colonial Williamsburg. Fabulous breakfast. We will definitely be back.
We stayed four nights. A great place to stay in Williamsburg. Great and knowledgeable Innkeepers who have a long history in the area. Wonderful breakfasts. Quaint and quiet in the heart of restaurants, entertainment and shopping. A few minute walk to the Historicsl District. We will return.
Location was great, there was nothing negative about the area or Inn.
Lovely little bed and breakfast, walking distance from everything in Williamsburg. Tasty breakfast, lovely staff.
Ideal location, in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg and a block from the College of William and Mary. Quiet, comfortable, clean, well-appointed room. Terrific breakfast and service. Great parking location. Couldn't have asked for more!
Good location with in walking distance to most tourist sites and restaurants. Parking is terrible and if you want to see attractions prior to check in the hotel does not accommodate parking as their parking is limited.
Cutest historical building located in the heart of downtown, within the walking distance to all attractions: Colonial Williamsburg, shopping, restaurants,William and Mary college. Very friendly and knowledgeable stuff will make your stay enjoyable
The owner is really friendly and helpful. We loved being right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. The bed was amazingly comfortable! It was a lovely atmosphere.
Quaint b and b
This inn would be best for a single person or couple, but was cramped for us traveling with a child. The rooms are up a long flight of stairs which was a task for us. My husband took ill while we were there, and the innkeeper was FANTASTIC. He directed us to medical help, took care of all our other concerns, and we felt blessed by the concern and care we received. The food was tasty,. The location was perfect.
Very accommodating. Arrived early and was able to get a parking space before check in. Room was made available a little earlier as well. Decor was nicely done in colonial style and southern charm.
Wonderful!
I had the best stay at the Fife and Drum Inn. In the Colonial Williamsburg area, it is clean, comfortable, unique, quiet and the staff is so friendly. They made me feel as if I was at home. I could not have asked for anything more! I wish everyone well. If I could move in, I certainly would!
Terry in Rockford
Can not beat the location, it's the ONLY hotel/ B&B in the downtown area. It's 1/2 block fro the main drag. Service from " Billy" could not be better. Stairs to second floor were steep but the staff helped hall up the luggage, what more could you want in a "colonial atmosphere". Breakfast was great with "French blueberry quiche"
In the middle of everything.
This place is as close to Colonial Williamsburg as you can get without being in it. One block from Merchants Square and a couple blocks from Colonial Williamsburg. So many shops and little places to eat. We had trouble deciding. Great experience.
Great Inn, centrally located close to everything.
Two minutes walk into the historical area and a short walk from the railroad station. Good breakfast and friendly assistance frpm the staff.
Coziest inn innWilliamsburg
Sharon and Billy are really wonderful hosts. From the charming ambience to the well equipped rooms to the sumptuous breakfasts and snacks and the sightseeing assistance, they went out of their way to make our stay memorable. We will be back, for certain, on our next Williamsburg adventure.
Walking 🚶♀️ in williamsburg
Excellent location Delicious homemade breakfast Delightful and helpful host and staff
Great location
Walk to everything free parking well-appointed room nice bathroom canopy bed nice breakfast buffet Helpful owners
Will Not Stay Again
Unfriendly, unhelpful and resented my use of hotels.com to make the reservation. We have stayed there in the past, we won't stay there again.
Fife And Drum Inn | Hotel in Williamsburg | Travala.com
It was a welcome retreat after days in large chain hotels. Felt like we had been transported to a simpler time.
