The property and room were amazing. Bars and restaurants are extremely close. There was a bit of outside noise in the rooms at night but nothing a radio/noise machine can’t eliminate. Overall great experience.
A nice hotel along the River Liffie. Quiet, clean; nice room. Great staff.
Lovely hotel staff very accomodating great location.
Perfect for a weekend in central Dublin. Staff in the hotel were fantastic & very helpful. A few bars to choose from onsite, the cocktails in the The Curious Mister were to die for. We also had an amazing Dinner in Tomahawk, a great place to dine if you love steak. We will stay again when visiting Dublin in the future.
The hotel was lovely! Staff were so welcoming. Room was comfortable and clean. Lobby bar was great. The hotel is steps away from the Dublin Express bus stop, making it such an easy transfer from the airport. Would stay here again anytime!
Small scale of property was an attraction, as was the unique design/decor. Friendly helpful staff.
Clarence Hotel Review
I love the “oldie worldly” look of the place. Had real keys for the doors and even a rotary dial phone. Multiple bars and a good restaurant. Staff was exceptional and the location was perfect. We’ll stay there again!
An excellent stay…
Good spot Temple Bar area
Very comfortable and clean room, within to Temple Bar area of city. Easily walk to many pubs, restaurant's and local attractions. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful including staff in lobby bar which was convenient for a quick drink.
You get what you paid for and a bit more
Overall, a wonderful stay. Although my only window looked out into a service courtyard it was quiet and I knew that I’d booked a discounted room through Hotels.com and wasn’t going to have the most luxurious room. It was, nevertheless, quiet and comfortable and mostly clean – although there was a torn top of a snack bag on the rug from a previous occupant that should have been vacuumed up prior to my arrival. I was there three days and on the final day the toilet also began running for 5-10 minutes after flushing until its buttons were jiggled several times…but it did eventually work. It was also noticeable that the electrical sockets weren’t very tightly fixed to the wall and started to pull out when removing a plug or plug adapter. The hotel’s website did say that these “deluxe double rooms” hadn’t been fully updated and that may account for the discounted price through Hotels.com. Despite these observations, the location was great, the staff were wonderful, the bed was comfortable, the shower was great, and the vibe was good if not elegant.
Jose at reception and Karen at the bar were very friendly and made me feel welcome
Great spot for St Patrick’s day, close to everything.
Very central location
Nice hotel right in the centre.
This beautiful hotel accommodated us very well. The lobby and hotel room were gorgeous and the location was perfect. The only thing is that we had many bad encounters with impatient staff who weren't very willing to help us. Other than this, it was a great experience in the hotel
Friendly, comfortable choice, great staff
City centre hotel, extremely friendly and helpful reception staff. Comfortable, spacious room, quite quiet despite facing one of the busy streets in Temple Bar. Great choice and I speak as a native Dubliner!
First time visitor to Dublin and The Clarence was a great choice! Very central location with so much to see, right within walking distance. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and check-in was quick and easy. Room was very nice. Big, clean, modern. Smaller hotel, so each floor is quiet, with just a handful of rooms. Charming, funky lobby with a nice bar. I'll stay here again, for sure!
Great stay, don't use card to pay security deposit
Only 5-6 min walk from Jervis carpark. EXTREMELY handy to Temple Bar. Ate at nearby Tomahawk - delicious steak and sides! Check-in was lovely - great staff. Room had balcony - nice view. Lovely gesture for hubby's birthday - greetings note and free glass of prosecco each. Hotel is lovely. Late check-out at no extra cost. Only fault - had to pay 50 Euro safety deposit. Was assured at check-out it would be repaid within a few days (!) HOWEVER, I noticed on my bank statement that, due to currency exchange between sterling and Euro I did in fact pay £42.77 and only received £40.23 when it was refunded 3 days later. Whilst it's only under £3, the principle of the matter is there. Had I known I was going to lose money, I would have paid 50 Euro cash instead.
Super great location. Evening Staff is so nice! Perfect room & everything is walking distance. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you
No problem with cleanliness BUT we had no control over the heating - first night room too hot - we didn't mention this but the other two nights we had to go and ask for them to put the heating on in the room - and that is at the end of December
2025
Reception staff could have been more friendly. Irish bar man on New Years Day was excellent. Restaurant and bar were cold.
My go to place to stay in Dublin.
Very close to airport express bus stop, restaurants and castle
Top location - only downside is we didn’t have any heating in the room.
Beautiful hotel in a very walkable neighborhood. Would stay here again.
Everything was fantastic, great staff - small but cosy room, lovely bar areas, would highly recommend and we can't wait to return!
Has changed much since my last visit, still a great place in the heart of Dublin
Fantastic staff. Great location. No Air Conditioning in room which would have helped as rather warm in room however did have a fan which helped.
Lovely hotel
Very good stay. Comfortable, clean and warm
Rooms are a little dated especially the bathroom. Balcony light didn't work and neither did the table lamp so lighting was pretty poor. There was one particular bar staff that was absolutely rude he had a disgusting attitude to the point I could no longer drink in the bar because of his rudeness which seriously needs sorting, he is a big let down to your team and for that reason I wouldn't come back here or recommend this hotel it put a big downer on the the weekend as your dreaded bumping into him!
Class
So fabulous, stylish. Service was class, hotel decor beautiful. Very quiet comfortable room.
The room was big and looked nice, but a lot of things were starting to get a bit tired. Shower head dribbled out a soft mist and was almost unusable. Was also no air conditioning in the room which I was amazed by for this price point.
U2 need a comfortable hotel
Cool location but old and cold hotel with old beds and linens
Beds good but rooms and bathrooms specifically need upgrading, black mould stains and chipped off enamel on bath, bathroom floor cracked and chipped. Similar issues with communal areas, badly needs investment, certainly not up to a 4 star standard.
Amazing
Once again we had an amazing stay at the clarence. lovely waking up and sitting on the balcony watching the hustle and bustle of temple bar
Lovely stay at the Clarence! Will stay there again!
Very pleasant staff and ambience.
Excellent all round .. perfect location
A friend & I have been looking foward to staying at The Clarence for a long time. We loved the hotel itself, the bar area, and the restaurant. The staff were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. I personally was a little disappointed with the room, whilst overall lovely decor, this room clearly needed a little TLC. The hotel is not at the cheaper end of the market, so I didn't expect damp in the bathroom or a rusty radiator. Also, there was a large stain on the carpet. Whilst not huge issues for what we paid, I personally would not expect to see this from a 4 star hotel. We are staying again next year however, as I explained the majority of the hotel was lovely and in a great location. See you in 2025.
We had a great 3 night stay.
.
Fantastic for 1st time Dublin visitors!
The Clarence made our first time in Dublin fantastic. Centrally located to most of the city’s attractions, the hotel is also next door to a lovely coffee shop called Hyper Goat. The staff was really sweet and very accommodating. Yes, the club downstairs can be a little much for some but we weren’t bothered by it at all. Definitely want to stay here again.
Liked to be in the Temple Bar location!
Loved the restaurants and cocktail bar, great location in Temple Bar but on the edge so less noisy then in the heart of it
Lovely place to stay in Temple Bar.
Lovely hotel, very central so easy to walk everywhere. Very nice cocktail bar.
Enjoyed our stay, room was on the small side. Staff were good. Very central location
The staff are incredible. Really lovely people and very helpful. Lovely breakfast and the bards are great. Room was rather tired. Bathroom in particular.
Wonderful stay, amazing staff, great recommendations for dinner. Thank you!
The hotel was in a great location. Slightly noisy at night.
Great location - walkable to just about anywhere. Staff were fantastic and super helpful.
Ok stay but should have been better for the price
While the hotel lobby and rooms are very nice, the rooms were quite warm, where we thought there was a heater on, despite the outside temp being on the cooler side. A fan was provided but could not keep the windows open at night due to the loud noise and music from the surrounding bars.
Location was great. Easy stop on Dublin Express from DUB. Nice lobby and bar areas. Helpful staff getting oriented to city.
Excellent location in Temple Bar with easy access across river. Airport transit line is a few steps away.
I had a wonderful stay at The Clarence!
Great location. Very friendly staff. Clean.
For the price I expected a little more amenities and a more upgraded property. No air conditioning. The room was stifling hot when we arrived. The windows were old and only partially opened allowing small air flow into the room. It is noisy but to be expected in that location. Great location and easy to walk to various bars pubs restaurants. Rooms were clean, pillows felt old and hard, and the mattress also felt well used and old.
Great hotel right on the River Liffey and next to Temple Bar.
Very homey and confortable
We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were large & spacious. They had complimentary water which was so nice. The bed was comfortable! It was walkable to everything!
Was a great location for me as I was splitting my time between upper and lower…
Lovely hotel! The lobby & bar are gorgeous. Staff were great. The shower in our room leaked a lot, which is our only complaint. Otherwise, it was great!
Great location to lots of things to do. WiFi was spotty. No air conditioning made the room warm
Easy walk to shopping and other dining options. Helpful staff.
Great location
Great hotel and location will use again
Lovely hotel, clean. Staff were lovely. Will certainly stay there again.
The location of this hotel is very convenient for being on the Dublin Express and also near the train station. The place has some charm and style, if a little noisy from the roads on both sides. Still worth a stop.
Hotel was clean and tidy, and a high standard. The heat inside the room was unbearable and couldnt sleep, the expected noise outside (location) meant the window couldn't be opened to allow any airflow,
Perfect Stay
The area was amazing, the hotel was beautiful, the location was perfect and the room was incredibly spacious!!! The 2 nights just was not enough
The rooms were spacious and plenty of well thought out storage areas. perfect location in the heart of Dublin !
Charming staff
Had a wonderful stay at the Clarence. Location, staff and room were lovely.
The hotel is central in the bar district and walkable to most sites around the city. It is surprisingly quiet and the hotel staff were great.
Lovely hotel.
Nic boutique hotel. Many food and beverage option. No longer owned by U2 but apparent care has been given to small renovations by new owners. Nice hotel though book direct and save some cash.
The location is good. Close to night life and shops. Noisy as the result of it. Rooms are roomy and well equiped
Wonderful hotel with very friendly and helpful staff
Great location and friendly staff, just needs a bit of a facelift. The room finishes are a bit tired looking
LOUD at night … all night. Know this! Make it a choice and the place is wonderful, but if you are in need of rest, go elsewhere and come back to visit!!!
Elegant, comfortable, and fun! The hotel has a fun vibe with staff that is friendly and professional. Bar and lobby was fun to visit and meet other visitors! My only wish is that there was roof top access for all visitors.
Great place. A little warm at times
The Clarence was really cool. Great decor, I never heard another guest unless we were in the hallway, very comfortable.
Great location, fantastic staff, lovely rooms. Only downside was the air-conditioning in the room didn't work, but they'd already put one of the large tower fans in, which did a great job in keeping the room cool.
Lovely hotel & staff. Quick walk from alot of major pubs etc. Rooms were a great size, with a big comfy bed. You might want to pack earplugs if you are there on the weekend & happen to be a light sleeper.
I LOVED The Clarence! Perfectly located near the Temple Bar area, you can walk to all the major sights in Dublin and have a fab time in the evenings at the endless number of pubs and restaurants in the area. My room was totally comfy with maybe the best shower water pressure I've ever had. The lobby bar is wonderful and reasonable and the staff anticipates your every need. Next time, I'll definitely stay more than one night!
Great location!
Beautiful hotel with amazing bar and customer service at whole property. The hotel room was nice, clean. Due to the location, if you want to sleep with your window open… you might want to consider another location, as there is no AC (at least the room we got), however they do offer fans in your room. Great location just seconds from Temple Bar area, restaurants and pubs!
A good location and nice looking hotel. I would highly recommend trying the second bar as the ambience was great in there. Staff were friendly and public areas all clean. My room was spacious but a little tatty in some places. The most frustrating thing is the black out blinds and curtains as there are still gaps letting the light in. My room overlooked an office so when in the room during the day you felt as if you were in a fishtank being watched. I would stay here again but hope to get a better rate next time.
Great property in the heart of the city.
I’m shocked that this place has such great reviews. The only plus about this place is that it’s in a great location and the staff was nice. The bathroom was filthy when we arrived. Dusty floor, and even sticky in some areas. The shower does not drain properly and you are standing in a foot of tub water while trying to get clean. There’s also no hotel room keys, but regular key and locks to enter each room and is difficult to unlock. They lock the front entrance at night so you have to hope that someone inside is paying attention to let you even in the building.
Great hotel
Our stay was great, staff friendly clean hotel and we got to check out at 12.30. However for 315 per night I didn’t expect to be at the end of the hotel, with a nightclub WORKMANS music loud enough for me to hear the beat and neon lights shining over the top of the curtain after 2 am. Overall the hotel is fabulous but not that particular room
Very convenient spot close to all.
We arrived super early from our flight and they were able to have our room ready a few hours before check-in. Very convenient location...access to everything.
Great hotel in a Great location.
Nicely decorated boutique hotel on the edge of Temple Bar area. Quiet and comfortable. of rest. Good restaurant options. Only critiques was that not all light bulbs in our room worked and the bathroom mirror was very small. Staff were pleasant and provided great service.
I’d stayed here ten years previously in a standard room and really enjoyed it: going again all these years later I thought I would spend a bit more money and try a ‘deluxe’ room but what was offered was more like a cupboard with a view of a brick wall: I went down to reception and told them I wasn’t happy and the first room they offered me, they told me it was behind a pub and would be really noisy, I was finally offered a room at the back of the hotel that I accepted (I was told it would cost even more money for something on the other side of the hotel) which was ok apart from the drunken shouting I could hear every night at one in the morning, could also hear a lot of noise from people having parties in other rooms. Was impressed the first time but will look elsewhere next time I go to Dublin
Be aware at the weekend nearby bars and clubs play loud music into the early hours (02:30) followed by continued noise from people leaving these venues for long after that. The hotel only has single glaze windows so there is no deafening of the noise
Well located, nice and cozy hotel In the hart of Dublin . I will be back !
Happy and hope to return
The location was superb. The hotel is clean and service was very good. The temple bar area festivities can be heard until late but the location makes it worth it.
Hot water didn't work, but we didn't tell then until we checked out so maybe they could have fixed it?
Great hotel.
Absolute perfect location, beautiful rooms, and really awesome staff.
I would have given 5 stars, however we were kept up the two nights we were there till 2am due to the thumping music from the pub next door. They were playing some amazing music though. The lobby was also super hot and we couldn't enjoy a drink at the bar because it was pushing 80 degrees.

WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK AGAIN.
Was there for 2 nights first in a very nice room. Kinda small, but nice. Travelled to Galway for 2 nights then back to The Clarence for 3 more nights. Was given a room with a terrace and that was a magnificent room. Would definitely recommend The Clarence. Also, in a great location.
