Quiet location and close to everything. Wonderful bath after a long day of walking!
Nice traditional machiya in central Kyoto.
Kumashuan is a nice machiya residence in a quite neighborhood in central Kyoto - it is not a ryokan, and not a hotel, but your own place with room for a family of four (if you roll up the two futons during the day). It will seem small, but it is enough space, and nice and quiet for sleeping (two single futons downstairs in main room and two single beds upstairs). The upstairs room also has a seating area with a coffee table and two chairs. The downstairs room has a large coffee table with cushion-chairs for four people (back rests, but you are sitting at floor level). The kitchen is really just a nook with a small fridge and freezer, small stove, toaster oven, sink, and dishes, utensils, electric kettle and coffee maker. There is no counter space, but it works for a small meal or snack before heading out to explore. Everything was neat and clean (daily room service, too), and seemed very new. I would have given an overall "excellent" score if this machiya had been a bit closer to a JR train station (you can walk there in about 25 min). There is a subway station a bit closer (about a 10 min walk), and it was very easy to catch a taxi when we were leaving with all our luggage, so it's fine if you have time to leisurely make your way around Kyoto, which has wonderful sights in all directions.
Nice house with everything you need. A suggestion
A nice small and compact house with lovely features such as bathroom and Japanese Garden. We really enjoyed our stay.

Was nice enough, but I'd rather stay in hotels. This was too much like, RVing to me.
