Was really good
expensive, no restaurant..should be classified as self-catering not a Hotel
Wonderful property just outside the town. Steep hill from town and a car is necessary IMHO. Rooms immaculate. Staff polite. Low contact. Would highly recommend.
far too expensive for what you get!!
this is very expensive for what you get. they are charging top rates about £250 per night...I would expect a deluxe walk in shower instead the shower was in the bath. it was very difficult to regulate the water temperature either too hot or too cold and it was barely a dribble. I would expect sky tv we had a really old tv..the room was very clean but very dated. the bed was too soft. we turned up early and we were not made welcome. im not sure why this place qualifies for such a high price? not even a cooked breakfast all we got was some croissants and bread. its high up on top of a hill so can't walk into town, it is not near a beach.
.
Friendly host
Another time perhaps....
Unable to comment as trip cancelled for (non-COVID) health reasons. I found the hotel management pleasant on the telephone
Beautiful individual rooms on the outskirts of Newlyn surrounded by fields at the top of a hill with views across St. Mounts Bay.
Nice hotel but beware the hill !!
Check in was ok, would have been nice to have had a smile & a hello when we arrived. Felt like we had turned up unannounced. Rooms was very nice & clean, bed however is not a king size but a double. Hotel is at the top of a very steep hill & not within walking distance of Newlyn, at least not on the way back! A nice hotel but a little overpriced for what you get & the host doesn't give the most friendliest impression.
a one night stop over on our way to the Isles of Scilly. we were made very welcome, Covid 19 precautions were excellent. All very good.
Lovely room and location, good service
Fantastic room in very quiet location. Host very friendly.
Home comfort felt like being in a friend's home. Clean, quiet, and comfortable.
Beautiful setting, convenient to town and lovely room.
Higher Faugan
Very clean and lovely views. Was nice to have breakfast in the room.
Brilliant night. The accommodation was first rate
We had a really nice suite with everything we needed for a one night stop.
While being close to town the location is secluded, quiet and peaceful. The room was beautifully furnished and had views two ways over Mounts Bay and private gardens. The in room continental breakfast suited us perfectly.
We had a lovely stay at Higher Faugan and the house and sprawling grounds are immaculate. Douglas, the owner was really hospitable and we loved the concept of having a continental breakfast pre-prepared and laid out in the room. It was also really useful to have a microwave, toaster and fridge that was stocked with milk, jam, butter, fruit juice and yoghurt. The only reason we are not giving our stay the full five stars is because my wife found the bed to be just too soft and ended up sleeping on the sofa! Apart from that, everything else was brilliant.
Lovely stay
Excellent place. Extremely clean. Every little thing thought of. Very comfortable stay. No issues at all with finding the place (Google maps has the right location). The road is also fine....narrow like most Cornwall roads are, but no problems. Doug was most helpful. Would definitely stay here again
Friendly and accommodating staff , while a bit difficult to locate , room was clean and having breakfast in room was a great idea as I needed to head off early
Very nice hotel close to Newlyn town
Staff greeted us and showed us to our room. You have your room, kitchen and ensuite. Kitchen is equipped with fridge, microwave and all essentials to make tea, coffee , cereals, fruits. There’s even a pizza delivery between 5-9pm . We had a lovely time in this beautiful hotel.
Lovely Breaj
A lovely place to stay in beautiful grounds. Liked the idea of breakfast in the room no rushing downstairs before breakfast finishes. The room was nicely furnished, bathroom was adequate, bed very comfy. Lots of information about surrounding area. Would stay there again.
Beautiful house and room. Rather different as we had to prepare our own breakfast, for that reason we thought it over priced.
Nice country hideout
This is a very nice country house in a beautiful setting so close to the Mount Bay. Yet it is hidden up the hills and has a private drive way. Doug the owner is extremely friendly and helpful. Very enjoyable stay indeed
Upgraded upon arrival to a double deluxe with beautiful views of the gardens. The cleanest hotel I have stayed at to date. Really well maintained generally. The hotel room itself is very spacious. All facilities including breakfast are already set up in the room with toaster, coffee maker etc which gave flexibility to me as I had early start in the morning. I would recommend you have your own transportation to get around but there is a train station in town centre around 20-30min walk from hotel. Visited the Minack theatre which was an amazing experience to watch a live theatre outdoors by the sea this was a 20 minute drive from hotel, Lands End around same time to get there, st ives is also 20-30 minute drive from hotel, long rock beach is where I had my first Cornish pasty !!
Lovely hotel, amazing experience.
The welcome was warm, and the room was far better than I had expected. Brilliant hotel will definitely be visiting again.
Cycling in Cornwall
Great place, everything was just perfect. Just one note, it is at the top of the hill, great view but a challenge to climb up there with a bike
Wonderful location but be careful if using sat nav
Lovely historic hotel in a beautiful location. Only down side was their food was slow to arrive, though cannot complain about the meal. Their waiters were very apologetic as they were short staffed in their kitchen , hence delay. We made the mistake of using our sat nav to find the hotel and arrived by the rear entrance, which is easily missed, so ensure you follow hotel signs for Limpley Stoke Hotel. Would stay again if in area.
Wonderfully quiet and peaceful venue
Thoroughly recommend. Very clean, warm welcome, and high spec. Hard to fault
Charming hotel in a park-like setting
Hotel is well set back on a private one track driveway, and somewhat tricky to reach. But once there --wow, great place, tastefully refurbished, significant paintings by former owners (Stanhope Forbes & wife Elizabeth). The current owner (Doug) is helpful and engaging. We had a second floor suite, overlooking gardens. Modest continental breakfast in room (all provided, and self-serve).
why break end of Feb 2017
Not sure what the mix up was with booking through Expedia but as they covered the excess we are not complaining. Had a lovely stay in a very well equipped room Top type of your staying in room 1 A) turn the radiator off before going to sleep or you'll roast B) turn the fridge off before going to sleep or the on/off humming will drive you nuts C) take a dim torch as the Blackpool illuminations in the bathroom decidedly destroys any pretence of still asleep during the middle of the night piddle.
One night stay... Ok
Room was fine ... Breakfast was great All good till family in above room arrived 😔 Very noisy ... Needless to say little sleep
Was up graded on arrival to a lovely room more like self catering than a hotel Didnt see any other guest even though was full Manager/ Landlord was there but not that friendly Lovely if you want a romantic weekend
Lovely house set on a private oasis
My husband and I stayed here while in the area for a wedding. We spent 3 lovely and very comfortable nights. The house has about 8 rooms - and even though full - it felt like we had the house to ourselves. Its set on a beautiful estate, and the house and grounds are immaculately kept. Our host Douglas was friendly, professional and helpful.
Fantastic
This was a fabulous stay for amazing value. Short distance from the town centre with plenty of things to do. Staff were more than friendly and would go out of their way. Couldn't fault the room, everything was clean and tidy. Could ask for anything more with the food they had provided. Would highly recommend for couples.
Wonderful country stay
Wonderful host who upgraded our room. Hotel was in a secluded, peaceful setting. Room was spacious, clean and equipped with a kitchenette stocked for breakfast.
Nice but could be better
The Hotel was lovely , but have to say the welcome we got from the owner was a little cold . He just said that because of a problem in the room we had booked we had been given an upgrade . I said thank you . We were then told that breakfast is taken in the room , and everything you need is in here . There was indeed , bread , toaster , fruit and jam . A sink , kettle , . BUT no tea towel , so we could not wash up ... The breakfast was adequate , if ... you are not Gluten intolerant . I think for the amount we paid , a cooked breakfast should have been on offer !!
Most Deluxe B & B
This is really a very high class bed & breakfast. The only minus for the place is that it is out in the boondocks, but you probably have to be remote to have such big beautiful grounds. The owner Doug is a really nice guy and does all hen can to please.
Overall Good - Not exactly what I expected
There were only seven guest rooms, which was fine, but judging from the photographs on the internet, I thought the property was larger. The room was completely adequate, but more of an efficiency. The continental breakfast provided was to be eaten in the room. Again, it was a positive experience but not what I thought it would be. For dinner, we actually picked up food from a nearby super market and had a picnic in our room. We really enjoyed our stay, even though it was much more of a do-it-yourself experience. We carried our own bags to our room on the second floor - no bellmen and no front desk experience. If you are aware of all this and are okay with it, I would recommend the hotel.
First visit
Could not fault it.
The reception and advice were all excellent.
We are from South Africa and are staying in Cornwall for 6 months. We enjoy to travel arround but then we are a bit lost. Doug went to a lot of trouble to make us feel at home and to give advice. Annemarie enjoyed the bath and i enjoyed the TV and sofa. My e-mails are up to date and we had an excellent evening of peaceful sleep.
Lovely retreat in a beautiful setting
Lovely Hotel, plenty of room for 4 people, we all enjoyed the peace. Hotel room was cleaned and tidied each day. A lovely continental breakfast consisting of bowl of fruit, choice of cereals, yogurts, milk, butter, jams etc. a toaster and microwave for us to use as we wished. Washing done for us. Thank you for a lovely retreat, we have had a terrible year with members of the family being admitted to hospital, and you have helped us all onto the road of recovery. Best part was that we could wake up without an alarm!! There was a private helipad and also noticed a car being charged by electric.
Wonderful place to stay.
Great place to stay to explore Land's End, without being in the middle of a town.
We were only staying overnight prior to catching the boat to the Isles of Scilly, but the location of Higher Faugan Parc, although a little difficult to find, (SatNav got it wrong!) was delightful. The host's welcome was warm & friendly and the room, although rather small, was delightfully appointed. Unfortunately as we are both in our mid seventies we found the location of our room difficult to reach with a case, at the top of the building 3 floors up and without a lift!
Charming Newlyn
We had a good stay for 2 nights in a quiet and clean room. Service is minimal as in guest houses. We were well looked after by the owner.
An unusual B&B - almost self-catering
Spotlessly clean room with comfortable beds. Location is not ideal if you want to walk anywhere as it is down a very long track, but good if you like peace and quiet. We had a 'suite' which was just an extra large room but had full size fridge, microwave, toaster etc. which means you can eat in your room, bring in a takeaway, or even cook a ready meal.
Comfort and calm at Higher Faugan
We spent two nights here and loved it - I like the concept of DIY breakfast with all the things you need provided for you. Our room was lovely - spacious, tasteful, excellent repair and cleanliness. We were out and about in the day as there's a lot to do in the area but the room was lovely and restful to come back to at the end of the day.
ACCESS
The hotel was beautifully appointed but the access was dismal. Half a mile of unmade up road, very narrow with 2 passing places. Cornwall should be visited only in the winter. We went to several places and were unable to park so missed out on St Ives and Newlyn.
Immaculate, but remote with bad bed
The Higher Faugan was high indeed, on the top of a remote hill far from Penzance. The facilities themselves were spotless, everything appearing newly-decorated and tasteful. But the bed was most uncomfortable, squishy, giving us a sleepless night. The breakfast consisted of a do-it-yourself assortment in the guestroom.
stayed here for a weekend. As we were travelling from far, I called the hotel to inform them of a late arrival. I was informed that the checkin time cut out was 10pm. This information should have been provided by hotels.com but is mentioned nowhere in the email confirming the booking. I was then expecting a call back from hotels.com to clarify the situation but that call never came. Douglas from the hotel was very helpful and agreed to stay on for a little longer to allows us to check in. We made it to Panzance in good time and checked in shortly after 10. The stay at the hotel was very nice and we had a lovely weekend. 5 stars to the property but 0 stars to hotels.com for a poor customer service.
Beautiful location & hotel.
One night stay comfortable room, the idea of the continental breakfast in the room was a very gpod idea.
Good one
We had very good experience with this hotel. We were two groups with 4 adults and 4 kids. Room are of good size, comfortable with good breakfast arranged within the rooms. It's very peaceful, seems to be private property, doesn't have typical commercial atmosphere. We liked our stay over there.
This hotel is in a pefect setting exceded all of our expectations .breakfast set up was ideal for us and doug and wendy were more than helpfull. All in all a great weekend wouldn't hesitate to book again
a weekend away
A very welcoming hotel with excellent facilities and service. We were given a free upgrade to our room which was an unexpected bonus. We chose the hotel as it was ideally situated for exploring Mousehole, Newlyn and penzance on foot. An easy walk apart from the climb back up the hill, but easily avoided as there is a taxi office at the bottom.
Highly Recommended
Immaculately clean, a great room and a friendly welcome - I couldn't ask for more.
Ideal base for exploring area.
Unfortunately we could only stay for the one night but that certainly inspired us to stay again.
Excellent B&B
A nice place with a view of the Penzance bay and close to many attractions. Lovely surroundings and a pleasant garden for guests. We stayed there for 2 nights and the breakfast was well "in the room" where all aids for preparing meals were available.
Overrated and too expensive for amenities
Booked a king bed, but it was barely bigger than a full size. Small room. Breakfast was pathetic with stale supermarket croissants in a bag. Although the house is nice, this is very expensive for what it is.
An excellent base to discover the area.
Would not hesitate to stay here again. Difficult find fault.
Perfect stay
After many hours driving we received a fantastic, friendly, courteous and helpful greeting. We were upgraded free of charge without even asking. The spacious room was decorated to a high standard, with a full memory foam mattress! We did visit 'off season' so all of the restaurants were closed. In despair i called Doug from the town and asked for advise. Doug called numerous hotels, booked us a table and arranged for a cab to collect us from one of the few open pubs. The breakfast was very generous, we couldn't eat it all, good quality too! Was one of the best hotels i've stayed in and the service was certainly the best. TIP: do not follow sat nav as it will take you through the back lanes, which was not fun. instead travel to Newlyn then up the hill - check google maps first. Thanks!!
Luxury Self Catering
When I I knew that there was no catering I was somewhat concerned as I was travelling on my own. The hotel is very well furnished and welcoming. My room was spacious, and had a wonderful bed. I had a small kitchen area where you prepare your breakfast- there are croissants, toast, real coffee, fruit etc. You have your own fridge. It is self catering but I went out to a wonderful restaurant in Mousehole. You probably need a car, but I used the buses.
Amazing place
Amazing place - we were upgraded to a suite free of charge. The owner (whose name I can't remember!) was so hopeful and welcoming - he couldn't do enough for us.
Great stay while visiting family
This suited us just fine for our needs. We spend a lot of time in the USA and are used to the large, spacious rooms out there with all mod cons. We often struggle to feel comfortable in the standard rooms in the UK. This fulfilled all our wishes. We had a lovely roomy suite, a king size bed and plenty of space to move around. We were visiting family in the area and spending most of our time eating with them so the continental breakfast each morning in our room (huge, varied and lots of choice) meant we could eat what and when we wanted and then straight off to meet up with the family again. The fridge and microwave in the kitchen area are such a great bonus. We were here for the weekend but you could spend any amount of time here, it has everything you need.
its just okay
the pillow cases are not being washed. doubt if he has washed the duvet cover and bed sheet.
Good venue to explore South Cornwall.
Higher Faugan is in an ideal position to explore S.W. Cornwall. The house is lovely and well maintained. The suite we were in was clean and well looked after. We appreciated the breakfast arrangement and noted that care was taken in providing a variety of content over our stay. Slightly disappointing was the reliance on an oil-filled portable electric radiator to supplement heating arrangements.
Higher Faugan
Stayed one night whilst touring around Cornwall. Really great room and facilities. Very quiet location, friendly staff. DIY in room breakfast had very good choice, enjoyed everything about our stay. Take a torch for the mile or so walk to the nearest pub - Kings Arms. Great beer and food and well worth the trek back in the dark!! Would definitely recommend staying here.
Not easily accessible but it is a nice place
Nice family hotel. Very polite staff. You need to get instructions in advance how to get there. The post code and the Sat Nav are not helpful.
Lovely House, Pity about the owner
The guest house was very difficult to find, could not be loacted by GPS. Beautiful house, gorgeous rooms, very spacious and comfortable. Only downside was the host. Made to feel unwelcome and like he was doing us a favour by letting us stay. Unwilling to offer any advice, when asked simple questions like 'Where the dining room was' we were advised that we should have read the information on the property before we arrived. I am coeliac, and asked if this could be catered for and was informed that I should have brought my own food. Unfortunately this behaviour spoiled this section of our trip.
Was upgraded absolutely fantastic..... like being at home
Outstanding, secluded get-away.
Wonderful hotel in an out of the way location. Doug was a perfect host and the room was outstanding. We booked through Expedia, which did not adequately describe the unique breakfast arrangements, although they were perfect for us. Directions to the hotel should be more clearly stated in the Expedia booking information.
Very comfy beds, and very clean .
Very good, very clean and comfortable ,loved the continental breakfast in room plenty to chose from.We would recommend it to all our friends.
Lovely place to stay
I stayed 1 night here on a business trip to Penzance. Its in a very quiet location with free parking. I was given a free upgrade and the room was really nice... fresh fruit was in the room on arrival and there were a number of other little touches that made the stay very enjoyable. I would recommend.
A bit inflexible
Very nice location. Manager a bit rigid / inflexible.
