Overall Rating: Terrible My stay at Clarion Pointe Sylva near Cherokee Area was an absolute nightmare. The cleanliness was horrifying—black spiders were crawling on the bed linens, and I discovered a dead cockroach inside the A/C system. This was not just a minor housekeeping issue but a serious health hazard. I reported these conditions to the front desk receptionist, Raheem, and provided both pictures and videos as evidence. Despite bringing this to their attention, the experience left me feeling deeply disturbed. I had to spend additional time meticulously cleaning my personal belongings outside my rental vehicle, ensuring I wasn’t bringing any pests with me. I also had to wait in distress, fearing possible spider bites. No guest should ever have to endure such unsanitary and unacceptable conditions. I urge management to take immediate corrective action, including thorough pest control and staff accountability. Until then, I strongly warn others to avoid this property.
This place was a great place to stay especially being pet friendly. I had my dog sitter back out at the last minute and the place I originally booked had no pet friendly rooms available. Stan an amazingly helpful employee helped me with booking a room on my app and making sure it was a pet friendly room after I had booked it. I will definitely be stay there when I come back to the area.
No coffee Friday night (at check-in) OR Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. No ice machine (one on third floor is the only one and it wasn’t working). Facility was incredibly noisy both Friday and Saturday night. No do not disturb signs, room was not cleaned and we had to request towels at 6 p.m. on Saturday. We stayed there Feb 6th last year and the place (and service) was immaculate! So surprised what a difference one year made!
Very comfortable just had hair in the bathtub and on the sheets
Great stay at a great property
The property was very nice, check in was quick and easy, and the employees were very nice and extremely helpful. The continental breakfast was pretty well stocked and had a decent offering. They had yogurts, baked goods, biscuits, sausage gravy, and fresh waffles. I was impressed they offered chia seeds as a yogurt/oatmeal topping. Overall, it was a great fantastic stay and I’d definitely stay there again.
On night stay at Clarion.
Very clean and ubdated.
Beds great! Comfortable.
Great stay!
Very friendly, helpful staff. Clean and well kept throughout hotel. Standard breakfast.
The staff was amazing 😍. So friendly and willing to do anything to make you comfortable. Especially Kacey. They are lucky to have such a wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful person. She made me feel like my comfort during stay was really important.
Complementary breakfast was terrible
It was a nice place for overnight stay.
Good for families
Quiet and clean, easy access to area attractions
Easy and clean!
Excellent stay for my graduation at WCU!!
Friendly staff members. Pet friendly hotel.
We've stayed at this hotel mamy times. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They are pet friendly and the rooms are comfortable.
While the hotel is dog friendly, there was a 30 dollar pet fee per day that is not identified on Expedia.com.
Always so clean!
Very clean, reasonable price and very convenient
It was a nice atmosphere
Amazing property
Excellent stay
The staff were awesome and very nice
Hold your breath.
The room I was in had a weird smell to it. The head if the bed was lower then the foot of the bed. Hallways had ionizers running to try and get rid if the smells.
Clean property. Modern look. Nice inside speedy check in
Nice stay
The Clarion Pointe Sylva was a pleasant place to stay, and the staff was warm and inviting.
Staff is super friendly
Above and Beyond Front Service Team! Thanks so much for listen quickly to our request! We are very happy and safe here!
Was pleasantly surprised as the room was sparkling clean contrary to prior reviews, The view of the fall leaves was stunning. Very nice surprise as I arrived at night. Not the best location, but easy to access from the highway. The majority of the staff went beyond what was necessary to be pleasant and helpful.
Needs HVAC service!
I will start by saying that for $470 for a two night stay the following issues should not have occurred at all. First of all the air conditioning unit had white/gray mold that was visible without even bending over to look at it carefully. we had no Internet service the entire stay. No ice machine available for visitors to use at their convenience. Had to take your ice bucket to the front desk and let the clerk go out of my sight to get a bucket of ice. I was not comfortable with that at all. The hotel was practically empty so why were we paying a premium price?? The aroma of weed blew us in the face when we took the elevator to our 4th floor room. It was coming up the elevator shaft and was continuous throughout our stay. Very disappointed with the entire experience. Not worth what we paid at all.
The staff were all super friendly. We had a couple stink bugs in our room - but we weren’t upset by it, we were in the mountains after all. The previous person must have smoked in the room because it was stale and didn’t smell good. But it was a safe and comfortable place to sleep on our roadtrip. Common areas were clean. It was nice to have breakfast included.
Best part of the hotel was a greater, Casey.
Great hotel and staff!
Front desk people were fantastic! Room was super clean. The bed so comfy I didn’t want to leave it. My only complaint was an invasion of stink bugs on our floor.
The room smelled like urine and the floors were not cleaned. Lots of human hair on the floor in the bathroom and the floor in the room had crumbs. We needed a place last minute so we took what we could get. It served it's purpose but I would not walk around without shoes. Even the hallway floors were dirty. Looks like it hadn't been vacuumed all week.
Room had a terrible odor, hairs on carpet and in the sheets.
Solid place to stay in the area. I'd stay again
Was a decent stay and the area is obviously beautiful.
Fue una estadía muy buena y agradable
Great stay! Thank you!
When we checked in, the person at the desk didn't speak English very well and it took about 20 minutes to check in because of the language barrier. A second person came along that also didn't speak clear English and it was a little frustrating when they asked me questions and I couldn't answer. Once everything got settled and we got into our room, it had a bad smell in the room, very unfresh and stale. I am a bit anxious about dirty beds and sheets, etc. so I pulled the sheets back on the bed and there were so many hairs on both beds in the room that I was literally sick to my stomach. Long hairs, short hairs, different colors; I immediately went back downstairs to ask for clean sheets or a new room and they did give us a new room which also had a hair in one of the beds but was better than the previous room, so we took it. The next morning I went downstairs to get a water from the "gift shop" and I asked them to bill it to my room but she said she couldn't, but then had trouble trying to charge me for it. It took more than five minutes just to buy a bottle of water. The breakfast was mediocre at best; the biscuits were dry and hard, the waffle mix tasted bad, my friend didn't have a shower curtain in her room and her towels were dirty (not stained). I could not wait to get out of this hotel.
The hotel was good and reasonably priced. The hallways could use some vacuuming, it seems like they don't get cleaned very often. I would also suggest washing the floors in the rooms. I had to wipe up something from the floor in the room and the wash cloth was brown...ugh. I kept my shoes on the entire time. Beds were comfortable and room was updated.
Hotel is clean
The room was clean. Towels were in poor condition and our shower curtain was missing. The front desk clerk brought up a freshly laundered shower curtain and installed. Beds were very soft.
Once the overwhelming smell of air freshener faded, the odor of pet urine was literally intolerable. The floor was so dirty, it was actually sticky, I suspect of pet urine spread all over the floor but not cleaned. I wiped the floor with a hand towel and it was so soiled after one sweep with my hand that it became black with much and I almost lost my stomach. It was a short stay and we weren't in the room much due to the filth so I did not complain until checkout.
Mediocre
Room was a bit dirty... random hairs were found throughout, toilet seat was broken (not attached to the bowl), mold on bathroom ceiling/wall, female hair clip on shower rod (suggesting service overlooked cleaning the shower thoroughly), floor had dirt and hair on it. The bed was clunky and poorly made where the sheets would come off the mattress.
It is pet friendly and clean. Close to Sylva which has good dining options and shopping.
I love that we could stay here and we had a 15 minute drive to Cherokee and a 20 minute drive to Maggie Valley 20 minute drive to Bryson city. And we did not have to go over the mountain to get to any of these places
Great Place to Stay in Western NC
The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable. The location was convenient and easy to access.
Very slow elevators, and luggage carts no where to be found!
Everything was good
Quiet and clean
Had a nice stay and were able to check in early. There was a bit of a rowdy crowd outside in the evening but that couldn’t be helped.
Great Customer Service, Friendly staff, nice pool, and dog friendly.
Very comfy beds
Very nice stay. Although the breakfast could use a little help. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean
The room was clean bathroom very nice plenty of towels good bed and pillows. Air conditioning was very good no loud condenser noise steady cold very well. Breakfast was good hot coffee sausage eggs bagels cereal. Wi-Fi was OK no problems. Nice pool. If in the area we will stay at the same place again.
Nice, Quick Stay
Overall a decent stay for a quick weekend trip. Room was clean, everything worked well. Staff were friendly, though front desk staff were frequently not there so would have to wait a few minutes for them. Would stay again
Great property. Spacious rooms.
Liked that is very clean Didn't like being close to elevator to much noise..
Very clean which is what I appreciate the most
Our bed had a giant divot (sunken area) in one side making it quite uncomfortable. The shower did not drain well at all so we would be standing in 6 inches of water every time. The breakfast was very sparse. Not many options and some items were gone when we got there at 8am
Wonderful customer service and clean and hassle-free stay, would stay again!
Good for one night
It was clean, quiet and comfy. Reasonably priced. What more can you ask you
I have a close friend who runs a Blacksmithing business close to this hotel. I was so impressed with you facility's that we are planning to negotiate the reservation of a black of rooms when he starts his Blacksmithing school next year. I was greatly impressed with the comfort of the room and the great breakfast. The staff was great also
Mostly good
This was our 4th stay and as always it was pleasant and comfortable. Breakfast was good, front desk was friendly and helpful. Only con: the hallways smelled stale and of marijuana
Nice room but breakfast choices could have been better
Had bugs in the room dirty sheets
Room didn't have toilet paper when arrived. No one came with clean towels for day 2.
Well located for our intended purposes.
Great stay with puppies
I reserved a king room and when I showed up they told me there were no king rooms left because they are given on a first come first serve basis and all kingbrooms were guven out before i got there.
Below average stay overall.
Overall the stay was OK but there was definitely room for improvement. Room seemed pretty clean at first glance, but then we discovered a sock by the AC unit!!! Not ours!!!!!!! The toilet kept running constantly. The phone was not plugged into the wall … the handset wasn’t even plugged into the phone! Breakfast was average - at least the first day. Second day…most had been packed away at 9 when we arrived (breakfast goes on until 9:30). The staff was clearing it all away from 9 onwards…so if you want to eat, go early!! The hallways STINK! Not sure what of, but it’s enough to put us off going back.
Very convenient to WCU. Reasonable price and clean!
My trip was to watch baseball with my grandson and his club team from University of Tennessee. He had an emailed confirmation and signed contract but was told by desk clerk he would have to speak with the person who provided the contract. As it happened-the staff member was not working on check-in day. The clerk flatly told him that the 9 rooms he had both confirmed and had the signed email contract. I asked for a manager and he said there wasn’t one. After several tense minutes(around 15) that he had spoken with Megan Orr and proceeded to scan room keys for the team. He never apologized for any inconvenience nor did he say thank you for staying there upon our departure. On top of this- at 11:30 or so the fire alarm went off. I called the front desk asking what was going on and was told they thought someone had pulled a fire alarm. In fact- a dryer had caught on fire on the floor below mine. Everyone made their way out without any communication from anyone on staff at the property. Very lackluster service. Training needs to be looked into. Especially when it involves possible evacuation in an emergency.
Our room was filthy. There was no shampoo or body wash in the room and I didn’t realize it until I was in the shower so I couldn’t get clean. Then I went to call housekeeping to get shampoo and there was no button on the phone to CALL housekeeping or the front desk. The room was dirty and uncomfortable and the fire alarm went off at 10:45 pm and we were locked out for an hour. Absolutely horrible experience.
Quiet and clean with super comfortable beds!
Great stay quiet close to amenities
The elevator wasn’t working when we got there and we were in the 4th floor. Heat didn’t work in our room. Also property didn’t specify we would be charged a nightly fee four our dog, found that out during check in. We will not stay here again.
There was an old dirty pair of men’s boxers under our sink, upon arrival. Staff was not extremely friendly.
Quick check in. Staff was really nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Not a good experience. The room was clean but heat/ac was loud and hard to find comfortable temperature. Drink machine was broken. Elevator was out of order. My room was on the 4th floor. Not a good value for me.
Clean rooms and bathrooms, nicely furnished.
Clean and updated room. Bathroom fully supplied. Offers Wifi password and breakfast. Very nice for overnight.
I called for early check in and was greeted by Randy, I told him my name and he put me on hold. I hung upand called again, Randy ansered and asked if I could hold. I was put on hold for 30 minutes. While on the phone i drove to hotel. When I arrived there were two cars in the parking lot, no on in the lobby and a young lady at the desk. I approached the desk to check in and the young lady told me that she was training and che would have to get someone else to check me in. I stood there with my phone with the call still on hold and was checked in by Randy, the person answered the phone. Randy never smiled, didn't verify my ID, and was in general unfriendly. Upon leaving I left a sweatshirt in the room. I called back 2 hours after I left and asked them if they could check the room. They said no that I would have to wait until after they were cleaned. I had left town so sent my son by to check at 4 they said he would have to check back. He went back again later and said nothing showed up. While the hotel was clean and convenient the staff was terrible. I am a realtor and have worked with the public for 19 years and would never be successful if I treated my clients like this.
A must stay when you are in the Cherokee Area
This hotel was super clean, excellent internet reception, water was hot and the beds were extremely comfortable! Best I've slept in honestly. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.
I like that the property is not surrounded by other businesses. Yes, you have to drive to get food, but that means no traffic noise. The highway is near but we never heard the traffic noise. All staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but had something warm to eat. Our room was clean and comfortable.
The little mini Mart they have in the lobby was pretty cool.
Staff
Beds were comfortable, staff checked us in right away, convenient location for reason we stayed.
Very nice room. Very nice view .
Clean hotel . And good customer service.
Right off of Hwy. 74 (easy on and off highway)
Very nice. Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff and decent breakfast. Perfect for a night’s stay when traveling through.
The rooms are clean and updated. The beds are very comfortable. We’ve stayed here before when visiting WCU and will choose to stay here every visit in the future too.
Pet friendly and very friendly staff!
The place is very nice, there is just nothing around it really for four or five miles
The staff is always friendly and the beds are very comfortable. Very clean too.
This hotel charged me without telling me for "smoking residue for cigarrettes or pot" (quoted from the lady working) when I do not smoke either one and was not done in the room; Asked for photos of proof, they did not have that either on file. The general manager was relaying info for a young worker to tell me, GM did not call me or notify me. Unprofessional to the max Have fun getting sued for charging something without telling them and for no proof, good try trying to make up for low margings; If you want to be scammed, stay here, if not there are plenty of better locations towards the Cherokee or Maggie Valley area
The front desk clerk at check in was great. The room was okay, although I was a little concerned about the cleanliness of the bed. Breakfast was disappointing. The choices were cereal, biscuits and gravy, waffles, two flavors of yogurt, and an apple. Coffee and tea. No real protein choices. At checkout, a sign with “Back in 10 minutes.” No idea when it was placed or how long it would be before someone returned. The property is located along a busy, divided highway with no food/restaurants nearby. Was sadly disappointed with my stay and felt that little effort is put toward customer satisfaction. Would not recommend.
Everything is so good nice people clean room I like it
CLEAN facility and friendly staff.
