This is sucha wonderful experience. You will achieve comlete relaxation in this unique experience. The tent was very comfortable and staff were very helpful and informative. Beds were comfortable and clean, as well as plenty of blankets for those chilly nights. Yhe road up to the area is a bit rough so be aware when selecting your vehicle. Beautiful surrounding will steal your breathe and leave lasting memories.
Under the Canvas Mt Rushmore was even better than our family could've imagined. Our suite was nicely outfitted and the views over the valley were beautiful and peaceful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I hope I have the chance to visit again!
Great place and comfortable bed
Place is amazing. Views and atmosphere!
Our stargazing tent was amazing! We had so much fun staying in a glamping tent and the lobby was full of fun board games. The menu was great too- highly suggest trying the braised chicken thigh dish. It was a little pricey for what you get, but still delicious. We gave it four stars because it advertises as kid-friendly, but we felt like everyone was staring at us for having our toddler there. Definitely don’t recommend bringing any kids under than like 6 years old unless they don’t act like a toddler…
Interesting concept, enjoyed our stay will try other locations.
This is my first time staying with Under Canvas and I will definitely try it again. Highly recommend! I stayed at the Keystone/ SD site for my 26th wedding anniversary with my hubby. It was magical with the night sky and stargazing! At around 8:30pm we saw the lights turn on at Mount Rushmore national Monument. We could see it from our deck! The food was good and staff friendly and professional! Extra nice to have free coffee and tea for guests! Truly memorable. Thank you!
We arrived late and still had excellent service. We were carted to our tent (to help with luggage) even though it was close enough to parking to walk. She started a fire for us because it was in the 40s and there were also plenty of nice blankets. The beds were comfortable. Overall very nice and unique experience.
This was incredible! There’s no other way to stay outdoors! Staff top notch!
A great place to relax and switch off. Our tent was wonderful. We were impressive with the bathroom, beauty comfy bed and linens, the stove to take the chill of the morning, our decking and everything about it!
We had a great time and highly suggest you look to stay at one of the various Under Canvas properties in the near future.
Oh where to start.... the good: proximity to Mt Rushmore is perfection. Their observation deck has great views. The property- gorgeous. Front desk staff, Tara, was amazing! She went above and beyond. Tent looked awesome, great photo ops but it went down hill from there. BADS: Tent, loud! Anytime anyone walked it shook the bed and furniture. Annoying. Bed was beyond uncomfortable. I really thought it was going to be perfect, but neither my husband or I slept all night. Kids were on the pull out and said it was uncomfortable. Shower water temp was lukewarm, and we did hold down the water pulley for a long time prior- hoping it would eventually warm up. I did see this in other reviews. Water is on propane and you smell propane everytime itnis used. The bed is near the propane system set up so it was strong smelling. I did look at the system to see if we could turn up the 'water heater' device (nope). NO OUTLETS. Not their fault I didnt catch this but good to notate. They do provide 2 battery packs for the couple lights. Lights, need more. Grateful we had our mega flashlights, lols. Neighbors snoring/coughing & coming all hours of the late night was also annoying but part of the experience, I guess. The Restaurant was SO BAD. Like really bad. It was pricier but expected however the kids food was burnt, like the burgers were literally charred like a burnt cracker. Cobb salad was poor presentation and sloppy. Large chunks of veggies, no dressing- definitely no way work $20.
Under Canvas is top notch
Beautiful place and wonderful staff
Loved the whole experience!
Did not care for dining experience or menu.
As advertised, and great service.
Unique concept. Very well done. Comfortable and quaint
.
Tents in the Forest.
We were very impressed with the tent lodging experience without all the work. We loved the quiet and serenity of the forest until late evening and the other campers arrived. That is when we realized the tents are way too close together. And not soundproof putting us at the mercy of other campers fun and loud conversations.
This was the cleanest and most peaceful stay I’ve ever had! Woke up to the sunrise gleaming through my tent door. Highly recommend!
Under Canvas was a great experience! We wish we would have stayed longer and will definitely stay there again!
This was a great experience. The staff make you feel very comfortable.
Under Canvass is an excellent “chain” of glamping sites. A large deck had a distant view of Mt. Rushmore. This is a fantastic way to camp and see great places. Tent was extremely comfortable. Staff was super friendly and accommodation. Expensive but worth it.
Our stay was amazing, our first glamping experience and it was very peaceful and friendly. The food was the only disappointment. Menu was adequate but the quality of what you received wasn’t worth the price. I.e. the graze board had weird cheese. Uninteresting meat and no crackers other than 4 pieces of toast. I recommend the head chef go out for a real charcuterie board and adjust his menu accordingly. Otherwise every thing was lovely
Exceptional experience! Park staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great little restraunt with glutton-free options. The view of Mount Rushmore from the patio was amazing! The “tent” was deluxe exceeding our expectations!
It was a really nice experience. Gave us an opportunity to connect with nature. Under Canvas was tranquil and I slept great!
Awesome friendly staff. Food great. Tent was truly an amazing experience. There was a lightning thunderstorm and we felt perfectly safe and comfortable in tent. Thank you for allowing us to stay.
Excellent customer service. Beautiful tents and area.
Amazing stay at Under Canvas in South Dakota. Beautiful night view of Mt Rushmore. Central to drive to many parks and sites. It is super cool with amazing elevated tents, super friendly staff and amazing meals. The stargazer tents are so fun and indeed we saw the Milky Way. Highly recommend.
A unique experience if you are tired of staying in the hotels. Huge step up from camping but so is the cost. This property was within short drive to the center of Keystone and Mt Rushmore. The staff is very enthusiastic and tries their best to be accommodating and helpful. Some of the amenities could use some improvement.
Fantastic property and great experience
We had the most amazing stay at the resort. Our trip would not have been as amazing and memorable as it was had we not stayed at this beautiful place. It was truly amazing!
Short stay at Mount Rushmore
We stayed two nights here while visiting Mount Rushmore (part of a multi-state road trip), two adults and two children. These tents are so fun! Our first day, temps were in the triple digits and the two fans offered were pretty small. We opted to go have dinner somewhere cool. They said it wouldn't cool off much, but it really did! Sleeping wasn't a hassel at all! And the beds were some of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. Staff were all amazing, informative, helpful, personable... we enjoyed speaking with everyone we came across. Kids really enjoyed the free smores kits! Our second night, there was a good storm. We even stayed out in the first bit of rain just to make smores! It was really fun listening to the storm in the tents too! The place was extremely clean for being tents, too. Highly recommend a fun experience like this!
very relaxing
Under Canvas is an experience like no other. Grounds and the breathtaking views were stunning. Amenities were everything you could ask for from a ‘glamping’ experience. Star gazer tent was perfect - it rained during our stay and the rain on the roof was relaxing - once the clouds cleared the stars were so clear and bright and made the experience. The bed and in tent amenities were perfect. The staff was beyond excellent. They take you on a tour when you arrive and go over everything in detail you need to know during your stay, then they assist you with loading up your luggage and take you by golf cart to your tent. They offer complimentary s’mores - unfortunately due to the thunderstorms we weren’t able to take advantage of this but such a nice touch. This won’t be our last stay. If you’re unsure because of the price - it’s so worth it. My boyfriend and I are so glad we did this.
Amazing place
Great experience
Staff was great- food excellent- beautiful Stargazer tent- we had a great experience
Totally unique experience!! Friendly staff that made us feel like family. Location was close to everything but quiet and isolated at the same time. I would definitely recommend Under Canvas Mt. Rushmore…so much fun!!
Friendly staff and super comfortable beds!
This wasn't for me. I should have researched it further before booking. I thought it would be ideal for a couple looking for a quiet, luxury getaway but it was mostly families with small children. It was not quiet at all. The staff I encountered was fairly new to the job and did not provide the level of customer service I expected from something described as "luxury". We ordered a bottle of wine and received a different, more expensive bottle which we exchanged but they still charged us for the more expensive bottle. Had to speak with 4 different people and in the end they corrected the receipt but still billed us the higher amount. There were many little things that just didn't fit with the luxury label - no bucket of ice was provided to keep the wine chilled, no one cleared dishes the entire time we were seated in the cafe, the board games were missing a substantial amount of pieces, the person who showed us around the site mumbled and seemed completely disinterested in her job, and the evening activities ended at 6:30pm. I expected better. On the plus side, the tent was clean and the bed was comfortable but if you are over 6 feet tall, you'll need to sleep diagonally.
Rustic as expected, beautiful scenery and surroundings. It's a great experience for family and friends. Close to everything in Rushmore area.
Staff was very accomodating. Place was excellent!
Excellent experience of glamorous camping (glamping). Great staff. Clean place.
Beautiful!
What a great stay! My husband was nervous when I booked this but it turned into his favorite stay of our 8 day road trip. Of course the night we were staying in a tent it was supposed to 46 degrees but it was fine! If you can’t get your fire going they will come help. Great service! They had fire pits and s’mores kits that were a nice touch. And the stars were breathtaking!
Save your money
This is not flaming but one step up from old fashion camping with a price tag of a 5 star resort
This place is amazing. So unique and way better than hotel! Feelings like camping l
The star gazing feature in some of the tents, is just amazing.
The property hide deep in the woods, pretty remote. Staffs are super friendly, a property tour was provided at check in.
From hotel to Glamping❤️
We weren’t planning on “Glamping”, but the opportunity presented itself. We did t bring anything ourselves but Under the Canvas had everything and more. They were so helpful even checking our wood stove to be sure we lit it correctly. They even had a battery to work with my husband’s c-pap machine. S’mores with other campers, view of Mt Rushmore lit at night, guitars available in which musical campers played. Awesome experience. Definitely will stay again and for more nights.
Amazing experience
Easy to find good parking and great staff, good food on site
Family trip
What a great off-the-grid experience (actually we did have cell service; just no electricity). Our tent was delux and the bed was the best of our trip. S’mores were free and fun and a wonderful way to visit with others. The registration area and observation deck were beautiful. The setting was lovely. They ask that no food be brought to the tents. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
Great spot, wonderful view and relaxing approach to the wilderness.
Excellent accomodations.
More fans in the main lodge/ dining tent. Music at dinner was excellent “Lonesome Ranger” soloist played. In our room the cord for one of the fans was wrong so it couldn’t be charged on the battery. The star gazer tent was wonderful. Offer a thinner pillow choice. Having access to yoga mats and guitar was great. Friendly helpful staff.
Chose tent with king bed and private bathroom. Perfect! Used the wood stove as temp went down to 36 at night. Tent stayed toasty but hubby had to add wood during night. S’mores were a nice treat. View of My Rushmore awesome. Staff very pleasant. Food in restaurant limited but good although especially breakfast very pricey.
Beautiful views. Loved the live music. Good food great drinks
Beautiful! What a great place to stay! We would stay there again in a heart beat. Location perfect for viewing Mt Rushmore from the back deck. Quick and easy drive for a closer viewing of Mt Rushmore as well. Ryan was amazing! So was the rest staff. We went as a family with younger kids they loved it.
Beautiful setting and great "glamping" experience.
Amazing view from the property to Mount Rushmore on a clear day. Great 10 min drive as well. Food was delicious and the tent cabins were outstanding.
Great stay with wonderful staff.
If you’re into camping, this is a great way to get introduced to it or go “glamping“. Loved our stay there, the first night, though was really cold. They have heaters in the tents, but they use the local wood, which is pine and it burns out really quickly so I had to wake up every couple of hours to restock the fire. If I would’ve just stayed under the covers, though, I would’ve felt fine. The food at the restaurant is so so but there are wonderful hiking trails and so many different things to do. It truly was a great way to visit Mount Rushmore.
We had a great stay at Under Canvas. The observation deck with view of Mount Rushmore was wonderful. We had great food and really enjoyed the campfire.
Property was absolutely beautiful! The staff were amazing and they were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The tent was spacious, very clean and cozy… The beds were comfortable so it made the stay even more pleasant.
The staff and accommodations are first rate. Hanna and Chase in particular made our whole trip!
Presidents, Stars and S'mores - Oh my!!!
We arrived later than anticipated, but the staff still made us feel very welcomed and gave great recommendations for our stay and visit to the Keystone area. Cheyenne (on her first night going solo!)went over and beyond helping us get a not-so-simple firepit started, which we greatly appreciated. We loved the experience - especially of seeing Mount Rushmore lit up at night. The stars were beyond gorgeous, and my son loved the s'mores that were offered. Thank you for a wonderful time!
Great fun camping in style. Staff friendly, helpful and went out of their way to fill your ever need. On site restaurant with great view and food. Tent fully stocked and comfortable. Out of town so truly felt like you were camping. Would definitely stay again.
We loved our stay in the suite tent. It was 3 adults and 2 kids. The view was amazing. Everything was just as expected. Can’t wait to return again.
Wow! What a beautiful place to stay to just enjoy nature
Great experience, perfect set up for the western feel of the area
Great place to stay. Friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Family friendly. Great trails on property.
Awesome experience, but management needs to enforce quiet hours since you are staying in a tent and you can hear everything around you.
All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our kids enjoyed the evening activities. Family tent waa the perfect size for the 4 of us. We definitely plan on staying at another under canvas property!
Loved the elegant camping vibe. The tents were well appointed with real beds and nice bedding and we even had a bathroom in our tent! There were fire pits throughout the property with chairs and s'mores fixings which was great fun, along with board games to play in the main lobby tent. The teenage grands loved the experience as much s we did!
had a great stay
nice place with nice people. Tent was great, food was very good, service was very good as well. No wi-fi and a lot of kids are things people should know whether those are plusses or minuses depends on the person. Great service in the restaurant, incredible starry skies at night and very comfortable beds and bedding and a hot shower.
Amazing!!
The "tent" we stayed in was amazing!!! It felt like you'd stepped into Harry Potter and had this amazing tent/camping experience with all the comforts of a hotel room!! The staff was super friendly and helpful. They even helped us carry our large dog to the car who was having some troubles. Love this place!!
We had a wonderful time! The restaurant, live music, and smore fire made our evening fun. And the tents were so nice and well maintained.
An amazing place to stay with the perfect location. Quiet and comfortable. The staff are incredibly friendly and kind. The food was pretty great as well.
Amazing place
The most wonderful experience of staying in under canvas Mount Rushmore: the customer service was amazing, from the checking in, restaurant staff, excellent service and beyond my expectations, not too mention the views…thank you for your hospitality and, will come back soon
Enjoyed glamping in the Black Hills and our view of Mt. Rushmore from our tent.
I was impressed that the manager provided a battery pack so that I could use my CPAP machine for a good night's sleep.
We had an awesome experience. The staff was super nice and knowledgeable. The tent was top notch. Loved everything about the place.
Best way to enjoy outdoors and Nature at its best
Great service. Made lodging an experience.
Super clean! Seated area to view Mt. Rushmore day & night. Excellent, helpful staff! Amazing food!
Wonderful way to experience nature/peace in a tourist location. Everything you need for a camping experience is provided (including smores) without the hassle. There is also a view of Mt. Rushmore from the back porch so you can see it 'lit up' at night. We had a thunderstorm during our stay and our tent stayed dry and comfortable. They even picked us up in a golf cart when we got stuck under the craft tent during a sudden lightning storm. We had two tents, and one member needed a C-Pap machine and they kindly brough a large charger so they could use it. The only complaint would be the abundant hornets (that were frankly everywhere we went in Southern S. Dakota...so not Under Canvases fault). It sounds like they were particularly aggressive this time of year due to winter coming, but it was annoying to deal with them whenever drink/food was present (even water condensation attracted them). Might be worth putting up more traps around the eating areas during this season.
First of all, we aren’t campers! Our tent was away from the parking so they had to take us to our place by way of a golf cart. Hannah was very helpful and friendly. She even helped carry stuff up the trail! Our wood stove was full of water from a recent storm. Joe was there right away to clean out the water and lay a fire for us. Hannah came back to give us a ride back up to the reception/restaurant area. We had a burger and asparagus which were good. Sat around in the reception area which had comfortable chairs and couches, waiting to see Mount Rushmore lit up at night. Got a ride back to the tent. Bed and linens were very nice. Slept well. We enjoyed our stay and our first camp experience!
Nice!
Great location! And the food at the restaurant is yummy. Kind of pricey at $15-26 a meal. It was pouring down rain when we got there but they had bingo in the main lobby, that was fun. Very convenient drive to Mount Rushmore. You can enjoy a drink on their outside deck and take in the view of the monument, while also enjoying the stars. Bring a lock if you prefer as the tents do not lock. Not being able to lock up my stuff always makes me uncomfortable. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.
The minute we set foot on the grounds of Under Canvas at Mt. Rushmore, we were transformed into a serene, beautiful and uplifting surrounding. We got greeted by extreme friendly and helpful staff. They showed us around and we stepped on the communal deck overlooking lush green mountains and we saw Mt Rushmore. It was incredible and so breathtaking. Our tent was incredibly spacious, and the beds and linen were extremely comfortable. We slept so well during our stay that I had a hard time to leave the bed every morning. Only the free and very good coffee and the beautiful view at the communal tent made me get up every morning. The bathrooms are very clean and very efficient. We had dinner twice, and both times it very good. We were so impressed with every little detail and thought put in to create this beautiful vacation place. Under Canvas is true to its mission of sustainability and living in harmony with nature. We took advantage of so many activities they offered, like Yoga, making S'mores, the night hike, and painting your own postcards. We loved every little bit of our stay and have absolutely no complaints or suggestions to make it better. Thank you so much. We will definitely try other locations of Under Canvas.
So friendly, great food and amenities. Would highly recommend!
Little piece of heaven
Everything was great from check in to check out. Everyone was friendly, the tents were spotless and we had a great night's sleep. The only negative is that my son's tents shower had no hot water. He let it run several minutes. I'm guessing the propane was out.
Amazing
The best!
The best place to stay near Mt Rushmore/ Rapid City!
It was amazing
Great staff! Great beautiful area! Highly recommend!!! Try and get #20!
Not worth it. Property stolen from tent, property says use their website next time for cheaper rates. 3 restrooms for 25 tents to share. Insufficient fans, lights and battery packs unhelpful staff
Wonderful property staff was super friendly and helpful. Extremely nice camping experience. Nice view of Mt Rushmore is a plus. Good food too!

Amazing way to experience Rushmore!!! Loved the tent, the staff, the location and dining.
