Loved the location, and view. Food was good and bad. Great steak, and cappuccino. But you have to pay extra to get bacon for breakfast. The washrooms were huge, great outdoor shower with hot water, but the composte toilets were baducally an outhouse toilet. Staff werecamazing.
The most magical and exotic place we’ve ever been to. The views are spectacular. The staff couldn’t have been better. They were able to help us with all transportation needs and made incredible cocktails for happy hour! Having yoga on site was a huge bonus! We will be back!
Beautiful spot on the island. Others also came to Totoco to see the sunset that was just amazing from here. Our room was somewhat dirty (dead insects and bird poop on the floor - I know, it happens in nature, but still it’s a higher end accommodation). Water in the pool was not treated, had ton of algae in it, which made many of us avoid it (it’s a shame).
Unique experience
The room was beautiful with amazing views of the volcano and lake. There were monkeys on the property. The staff were freindly and helpful. There was a compost toilet in my room and solar panels on the property. The shower was really cool, it was in a outdoir area of the restroom with plants and rocks.
My stay at Toto was absolutely magical. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. The food and lodge was wonderful!
Very unique and beautiful, good for 2 nights max. Food could use some work, more towels please. Staff very nice and beautiful surrounding
We liked the view, but not the fact that there were spiders and insects all around us.
I loved everything about Totoco. The rooms, the location, the staff, the food, the views, it was a very comfortable stay! I got a full body massage from Lydia and it was the best I ever had in my life. Miguel seemed to be in charge of things and he was extremely helpful, kind, and accommodating. Pictures don’t do justice of this place. The property is full off the most beautiful gardens with crowds of butterflies overlooking the lake and volcano. There are bugs, but that’s what you’re going to get for being in such a beautiful location. The road going up there is also very rocky and I found a bit difficult to get up and down on my motorbike - just something to think about. Wouldn’t have been as bad with a quad or car. If you aren’t seasoned I would recommend parking it somewhere along the bottom of the mountain, when you first pull onto the road and just walk up/down from there. I walked at night in the dark to and from and felt completely safe the entire time, although there are dogs that will bark. I didn’t pay them any attention and they did not bother me. 10/10!!!
Totoco is on the best part of the island, but it takes some work to get there I HIGHLY suggest getting an ATV at the ferry and driving there. The driveway up to the hotel is quite difficult but certainly worth the views. The service was outstanding helping us with everything with we need before and during our stay. The restaurant is excellent, but there are also great restaurants right outside the hotel like La Isla Bonita and Café Compestre.

Disappointed
What spoilt it for use was some bright spark decided on our 2nd day to ignite 2 separate fires immediately behind our cabin ... resulting in us having to deal with intense smoke and ash for at least 24 hours ... very unpleasant All our luggage and clothes smelt of smoke !! Plus during our 4 day stay the bath towels were not changed and when the temperature is in the high 30s you need at least 2 showers a day ... when 2 fires are burning immediately brhind your accommodation trnd to shower even more. Attention to the finer details would have made our stay more pleasant.
The most beautiful volcano view you can imagine. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful
Room for improvement
The staff is delightful, the location is ideal. However, we felt the food was subpar relative to other hotels/restaurants. I understand it's presented as an eco hotel, but it was pretty basic and not kept up very well. It could be so magical if the owners invested more into their space.
I cant recommend this place more. It's so beautiful and special. Romantic and private. Such a gorgeous way to see the sunset, to unwind, to be relax. The people that work here are warm and super helpful in planning things to do. The food is beautifully prepared. I only wish we had more time. Thanks to everyone!
The road is only good for one car and there is no area to pull over when another car come on your way and is very difficult to reverse in that tine road
The most beautiful place I have ever stayed in.. Amazing helpful staff.
The property is very well keptv and the staff is excellent. Very friendly and accommodating. My overall 3 startbos due to the price for what you get. The main house doesn’t have any hand towels or
Fantastic hotel with great staff and views.
We had a fantastic two day stay at Totoco. The staff were amazingly attentive and the room was superb. This is a great spot to relax in and marvel at the view of Concepcion. The only thing to note is how far the hotel is from activities and we would recommend renting a scooter or car while here.
Great staff but needs lots of upgrades
If I could just rate the staff, I would give it a 5*. Everyone was so nice and helpful: the manager, people at the front desk and the ladies in the kitchen. It's a wonderful team. The place has so much potential! It just needs a lot of upgrades. The power in the cabanas goes out frequently, and your only option is to walk in the dark at night to ask the front desk for a reboot. My bed pillows smelled horrible and need to be replaced. The bed mosquito net had multiple holes and need to be replaced too. It was impossible to sleep. There were bats in my bathroom and a rat in my bedroom scratching my backpack and trying to get to my snacks all night long. The rat also chewed through my pants' pocket. You just can't have any food in the cabana. There was another creature on top of my bed frame crawling and making noises all night too - it might have been an iguana. Howling monkeys were very loud in the morning. I get that we're in the middle of the jungle, but that was just too much for me. I tried to turn the fan on to hide all the creatures' noises, but the fan is really old and louder than a train. The place has a restaurant. It's nice when you don't rent an ATV or motorcycle and are kinda stuck there in the evening, but the quality is average and everything is a bit overpriced. There are much better food options in Balgue if you can get to them. I hope the new owners make some upgrades. This place could be so much better!
The most beautiful spot we have ever stayed. So peaceful, and the view is magical. The staff is so friendly and nice (they setup our ferry ride back for us) and food was amazing. I love how eco-friendly the resort is and it shows how much they care. The only downside is the road in to the resort is very difficult. You definitely need a vehicle and it would be better to have a truck. But definitely the most beautiful place we have ever stayed
Mosquito nets torn and duct taped. Cockroaches fell on bed in middle of the night. Bugs!
The road to get to the hotel is horrible! Very hard to get up in a car might wanna rent a truck. Wi-Fi does not reach to the rooms only in the lobby
calm space to explore paradise and peace
Would highly recommend totoco ecolodge to anyone staying on Ometepe. View from our cabin was the best views we saw on the island.
Beautiful eco hostel very remote. Staff is wonderful: Alex, Tanya & Miguel amazing. Not hostels fault but didn’t have any hydro for my two night stay- which was inconvenient with no lights and nothing to do but go to sleep when it got dark out. Also became inconvenient because couldn’t charge phone. This place could be so great if there was a back up energy system, maybe a bartender on duty and more cocktail selection, and more of a vibe going on (very quiet nothing to do pool was even closed for maintenance and looked quite deserted and unused when I was there). Also very hard to get to the lodge 20 min walk up and down in the pitch dark kind of limits you to staying at the hostel at night unless you feel comfortable doing the trek in the pitch dark which I didn’t as a solo female traveler. First hot shower in nicaragua and beautiful view or conception volcano / peaceful and wonderful staff were the perks. Gracias!
Before you go understand that this lodge is way up a dirt road that we used an atv to get up but can be reached by regular 4x4. When you get there the views are beautiful and it’s very peaceful. Staff is very friendly. Pool isn’t the cleanest and quite cold. Power went out quite often but there was always hot water. Rooms were very clean but Lots of bugs in the rooms ; probably because you’re in the middle of the jungle. Can hear the monkeys and see them if you take a walk. Free breakfast was amazing. You get a choice of a few options. Overall not a bad stay.
The Lodge was wonderful, the ladies in the kitchen fabulous as was the food. Miguel always with a smile and great service. Our eco cabanas were clean and quiet Our only not wonderful thing was the lack of lighting when you leave the Lodge at night. We had a light on our cell phone!! The Lodge is 2 kilometers up a very steep hill. Thanks Miguel Ann/Duncan
Amazing views!
Amazing staff and service. Food was ok and the views were amazing. Didn’t get to try the pool but looked clean and inviting. Finding the hotel was a bit difficult and the drive up is a bit rough.
Totoco lodge is an incredible peaceful getaway on Maderas volcano with beautiful views. Highly recommend this tranquilo oasis. The staff are extremely nice and amazing hosts.
It’s is a beautiful and unique location. With the most spectacular sunsets viewed either from the infinity pool or the open air restaurant
Amazing sunset views and great service!
Wonderful two-night stay at Totoco. A bit rustic but still one of the nicest spots in that part of Ometepe. Amazing sunset views of Concepcion Volcano from our personal lodge and from the pool. Very friendly service from the staff. Food was fine, but don’t miss a meal at Cafe Campestre just down the hill in town. If you have a 4x4, ATV, or dirt bike, you’ll need it to get up the hill to the lodge or make sure you ask the hotel about pick up.
I'm a solo female traveler and this was not the best place for solo travelers. It is a nice resort The lodge is beautiful but very scary at night. You are really in the middle of the jungle. There are no lights to guide you to the lodge at night it completely dark. I navigated with my phone flashlight. The lodges are very far from the lobby/restaurant area so I was really scared the first night. Going to the toilet is scary at night with all the bats and insect noises. It was an adventure staying here but honestly, I was scared! I kept my luggage closed all the time. The roads leading to the lodge were terrible so it is really discouraging to go out explore. Also, the toilet (Not an actual toilet but whatever!) at the lodges don't have a flush. It is an eco-lodge so the setup is like camping (Do your thing in a hole and put some dirt on it).
Nice view but this is it!
The view is stunning but it is the only reason to stay. I do understand the concept of ecolodge but taking a cold shower outside when it is rainy and windy is not appreciable, especially when you pay that price. Nobody told us that the road is extremely complicated to access, with no 4x4 or ATV you just cannot go up the 1.5 km to the lodge. We wanted to get a cocktail, they have a list of 10 and 6 were not available. Breakfast were not extraordinary. We did not eat there. Also you need to know that 15% will be charged on top of your bill at check out. Another bad surprise! Go for the view, but do not stay more than a night! We staid 3 and regretted it.
Excelente’

We loved our stay at Totoco. The staff we so kind, welcoming and helpful. Very accommodating. I have a few food allergies and they made accommodations for that. The resort os beautiful and you feel like you are in a cottage in the jungle. The property is well maintained and the view of the volcanoes is unmatched. The entrance to the resort is up a very steep narroe hill so a 4x4, all wheel drive or motorbike is recommended. We brought our all wheel drive truck and had no issues. No lights at night so dont drive up or down the hill when its dark. The coffee was delicious, the food was great. They did not have dairy alternatives however and that would be the only negative. We will be back for sure.
