Overnight stay

Had an early check in which was great and enabled us to get ready for a wedding in our room. Breakfast very fresh and quality ingredients.

We’ve stayed before but the standard of all aspects of this pub is in no danger of flagging. The management, their staff and the rooms deliver on all fronts. We will definitely return

Fabulous family weekend

A fabulous stay at the Walnut Tree Inn. Nothing was too much, they even decorated our family room with birthday balloons and banners for my daughters tenth birthday. We arrived at 7pm and a table was already reserved for us for our dinner and we didn’t feel rushed at all. Ian was a fantastic member of staff, friendly and chatty and really engaged with the kids. Breakfast was delicious and our room was perfect! Looking forward to returning soon!

It was convenient for our planned visit to Stourhead gardens. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent. The room was very comfortable.

Amazing stay

We booked this with our Tesco reward points was well worth it. Staff were so nice and couldn’t do enough for you. Beds were very comfy, room size was great for a family of four. Lots of choice for breakfast and we had dinner there one night. Food was delicious. Cannot fault them at all.

Comfy, friendly and tasty

Great place to break our journey from Cornwall. Lovely room with a super comfy bed and generous bathroom. We ate dinner there and menu offered a variety of options and food was very tasty. The staff were very friendly and super efficient. Monday night was quiz night so it was very busy and they were working their socks off. Breakfast options were good and the full English was excellent.

Perfect place to stay

Great place, room was lovely and clean and comfortable, food was amazing - so much choice, highly recommend eating here whilst staying. The only draw back for us, was that every time the room next to us ran the tap/shower we could hear it in our room and on this occasion our neighbours decided to get up at 6am on a Sunday morning which was a shame. But apart from that it was lovely and would stay again

Great location and hospitality

A great find in a lovely area. The room was all set up for three people inc three waters, three cups and three towels instead of the usual two of everything! Delicious breakfast the next morning and kids loved being able to order whatever they liked. Highly recommended.

Lovely 😊

Booked at short notice after a lovely day at Longleat. Lovely spacious rooms and comfortable beds also had little toiletries. Staff were all fantastic and very helpful. Good food. Overall a really nice place.

Excellent Hotel

Stayed one night to visit Stourhead Xmas lights. We found everything perfect from the evening meal, nice warm clean room and lovely breakfast. Staff were friendly too. We would definitely stay here again

A perfect place to stay.

The Walnut Tree Inn was amazing. The staff where outstanding and extremely helpful. The menu had so many lovely dishes to choose from and what we choose was delicious. The room was cosy, warm, clean and had lots of extras which made our stay so good. We will be booking to stay again hopefully soon.

Lovely pub, large family room with a huge bathroom. Fab breakfast included. Only slight negative is sofa bed needs a new mattress but fine for 1 night. Would definitely return.

Wonderful Walnut Tree Stay

The Walnut Tree Inn was an excellent stay, right from check-in through to check-out. The staff are really helpful and friendly and the food amazing! The room was immaculate, spacious, clean and decorated with an up to date feel, and was light and airy. We will definitely visit again!

Amazing place to stay

Myself, my parntner and children loved it the place was very clean reasonably priced and service was amazing.. set us up for a day out in longleat after a very good sleep and breakfast.. will definitely recommend and use again in the future

Great stay

Stayed here 2 nights twixmas. Made very welcome. Room cosy and comfortable. Staff very peasant and helpful. Ate there both nights as the food was so good. Breakfast good too. Best poached eggs i have had in along time. Would definitely recomnend. Great stay.

The only thing that I did not like was the softmattress in bedroom If I was the owner one ofthe rooms would have A very firm mattress for people with bad backs! Otherwise brilliant.Great spot.Lovely service.

We had a lovely stay; late check-in after a long and delayed journey down and a super half day & evening at Longleat for their Sky Safari. We received and friendly welcome at the Inn with no fuss and a quick but full explanation of everything we needed to know. Lovely clean and modern bar with a great selection of drinks, snacks and the like. Our family room (Oak) catered really well for our needs (two adults and two little girls, 7 and 4). Solid and well kept room furnishings, clean and well finished bathroom with velux window. Breakfast was really good; we were able to help ourselves to cereals, fruit, yoghurts and juice etc followed by a cooked breakfast of our choice from a varied menu or off menu if we asked. We went with menu choices and were not disappointed both in terms of quality and portion size. With a 2nd day at Longleat ahead of us, we later commented that we didn't need lunch, such was the size of our breakfasts 😀. Great value for money - we'd definitely stay again and we'd recommend that you do too. Thank you Mark and Samantha - you've got a lovely place!

Great room very comfortable good food and great breakfast

Lovely staff, excellent breakfast, fantastic room, value for money.

Very friendly welcome, lovely family room, comfy beds all very clean and fresh. Lovely meal in the evening and breakfast too. Tiny criticism the plasterboard had obviously recently been repaired and needed painting but it didn’t detract from how nice our stay was.

No Complaints.

It was fine as a stop-off. Nothing amazing but generally friendly staff. Clean. We had no towels but this was rectified. There are houses being built opposite the pub which is a shame but housing is a priority!

I requested a twin room only to find one of the so called twins was in fact a sofa bed. Very noisy location. Excellent staff and food

We loved this place!! The staff were so lovely and informative. As soon as we got there we felt welcome and had a laugh with the young lady who checked us in and showed us our room. The room and security was excellent. The en suit was big, clean and stylish. There was a lovely range of complimentary tea’s & coffee and the room was beautiful. The locals are very friendly and we had a wonderful chat about Longleat and Lord Bath, they recommend The Bath Arms for food when we left Longleat (which was the reason for our stay). All in all it’s was a fantastic mini break, I can’t complain about anything! Even the breakfast (which was included) was top class. We will Definitely be back. Longleat have many different events such as Halloween, fireworks and a lantern festival. I Can’t wait to revisit this stunning location again.

Nice , local Inn .

The 'Walnut' room ( they are all named after trees ) was enormous . Very well equipped and dual aspect. The Inn itself is a little bit away from the rest of the village but within an easy stroll. Well used by the locals , and good quality beers. Food is OK but nothing special.

30 minutes from longleat

We chose this Inn because of its proximity to Longleat and its reasonable rates. We needed to leave early on the Saturday but breakfast isn't served until 8. And there was no one around until 7.15. However, when the manager arrived he did offer to cook something early. The meal the night before was excellent and catered for our three year old really well.

Wonderful place to stay!

The staff went out of their way to see to our needs & comfort. The food was great & the prices were reasonable.

Great location for us as we flew in and out of Bristol and we were visiting the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Additionally we were within easy access to Swindon, Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat and many National Trust places. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We arrived just when the kitchen was closing but kept it open so we could get a meal. The menu was extensive and the food delicious. We needed to check out before 8am and breakfast was made for us. The room was very comfortable with a selection of teas and coffees on a tray.

An enjoyable stay

The accommodation and food in the restaurant was very good and the staff made us feel very welcome. We will visit again!

Pleasant stay, but with scope to improve

The pub is now opposite a new building site, which starts at a reasonable early hour, so some noise can be expected. the rooms are clean and tidy, but share a landing with staff rooms/stores, which means a constant stream of creaking floors and banging doors. when we arrived, whilst appreciating that the pub was busy as they were holding a wake, the welcome was somewhat under whelming, no introductions from staff members met.

Weekend visit

The Walnut's room was large and comfortable with a very well equipped bathroom. The young staff in the bar were friendly and efficient

Ruby Anniversary Weekend.

This is the best combined bed, breakfast and restaurant we have stayed in for a short break. We chose the Walnut Tree Inn because it had top reviews and they were absolutely right. We join others who have given top marks for giving service comfort and good food and we would readily stay again and recommend others to do so.

Definitely 5*

We stayed just one night after a day at Longleat and wished we had booked for longer. There are 3 bedrooms up a flight of stairs and our room, Sycamore, and the ensuite were bright, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We had dinner at the Walnut Tree, I had half a rack of ribs and husband had rump steak. We both agreed they were the best meals we had had in ages. Everything was homemade and cooked fresh to order. The bed and pillows were lovely and comfortable, although I woke up just after 6am as usual. There was a plentiful supply of different teas, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and sugar which tided us over until breakfast at 8am. The breakfast menu was again varied with choices for everyone. We both had the full English which was beautifully cooked with top quality ingredients, although it was large and we struggled to finish it. All the staff we encountered on our stay were very friendly and helpful. Over breakfast we got talking to a couple of women at the next table and we all agreed what a find the Walnut Tree was, none of us could fault it in any way. Definitely a thumbs up from us; Rooms 5*, Location 5*, Food 5*, Service 5*.

Such a lovely place to stay

A Very Enjoyable Stay

We stayed in the Walnut room, which was spacious, warm and comfortable. Large bathroom too and everything we needed was available. There were a few minor snagging items with trim in the bathroom but overall, a really enjoyable night’s stay and a truly excellent breakfast, with high quality ingredients, especially the bacon. Staff very friendly and the hard-working Manager couldn’t have been more helpful. Added bonus of the on-site restaurant, where the food was also first class. It is clearly a popular eating place but we had no trouble with free spaces in their own car park. Comfy, large bed. Ask for WiFi Code before going to your room as info binder had not been updated when we stayed.

Fantastic place to stay!

This is such a great pub to stay in. I cannot fault anything. The staff are so friendly and welcoming which is rare nowadays in customer service. The rooms are perfect with so much attention to detail. The food is delicious and fresh. Large portions and definitely value for money!

Relaxing place to stay.

After a busy week then a 2 hour drive, a great day around longleat safari the Walnut Tree was a lovely place to stay it was welcoming, relaxing, the room was very comfortable, fab bathroom and the food and service was amazing. Really worth a visit we shall defintly be going again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Great pub

Very friendly greeting and friendly and helpful staff throughout our stay. The room had all facilities - including a bath as well as a shower - and was clean and comfortable. We visit friends in Mere once a year and will definitely be returning.

Great place to stay after hiccup

We stayed in the Sycamore room which was lovely as well as the breakfast and the staff. I booked through Expedia which sent confirmation that we could check in up to 11.30pm and our room would be reserved for late arrival. We arrived at 11.10 pm and the pub and guest house were closed and in darkness, a couple who we’re just getting into their car asked if we were staying to which we replied yes and they turned out to be the owners! The lady seemed very confused as to why we were so late and said she had “given up on us” and we should have called to confirm late arrival!? When I stated that it says we can check in up to 11.30 she seemed unaware of this and said it shuts at 11pm. We had a very long journey to The Walnut Tree Inn so were just happy we could check in and did not have to find alternative accommodation so late at night which could have happened in the worse case scenario. Contradicting information needs updating by either Expedia or The Walnut Tree Inn and perhaps guests should be called out of courtesy, after all they have paid in full to stay...

Good pub in a pleasant village

Excellent location for visiting Stourhead. Friendly, pleasant staff and excellent food served all day. We were perfectly satisfied and intend to return next autumn.
