This hotel was nicely remodeled. The staff was pleasantly helpful. The location was great. The lobby, grounds, and rooms were all very clean and tidy. The outside area was spacious and very relaxing. I really enjoyed the grass area with lots of seating and outdoor games for the kids, and 2 pools! I will definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it!
Not worth the money at all. Staff was sub optimal.
Love this place
I stayed here for my graduation and I absolutely loved it! Nice and quiet at night -the pools were awesome and the service was impeccable-will definitely come again!
Had a little issue with check in. The manager stepped up and corrected it . Stay was enjoyable. Will definitely go back
Great hotel to stay at, BUT we received a large bill at check out, which was not presented while booking, adding over three hundred dollars.
the roosters are unbearable. please add white noise in the rooms. the hotel is too expensive to get virtually no sleep due to the roosters.....it is a funny joke, for a night but after that it is a pain.
Needs a good cleaning and touch up work . We found what appears to be blood stains on shower curtains . Loose show handle and front door handle . The shower had hair on the floor and walls and was unkept
I did not like fee resort more than $50 per day.
After arriving at the property, we were directed (by a note on the front door) to the hotel next door for checking in and out. The room was clean and nice however there was only one chair, a very nice rattan chain that sat very low to the floor. There wasn't a table or any other place to sit except the beds. it really could've used a table with 2 chairs at a minimum. My reservation called for a courtyard view but we had a parking lot view. (Not a big deal) The pool area was super nice with a bar and music (a bit loud for my taste by not so loud it chased me away! $15 per day parking I think is a bit much! Also a $50 per day resort fee, again ridiculous.
Pet friend GATES
I am truly grateful for hotels like this one where they allow your pets to stay. It’s convenient. It’s easy. Everyone was super friendly and really nice and accommodating. I’ve stayed there before and I’ll stay there again. Thank you !
Bad food was great
Nice Resort Area If You Arent There For The Room
The hotel is now merged with 24 next door. We used both properties to relax by the pool, to have a bite to eat and a drink. If we did not have access to the 24 property our stay would have been disappointing. The pool, restaurant and bar, the workout room, and yard games at the rear of 24 is much more like a little island getaway. Be sure to choose a pool view room at the Gates because the other views are of the parking lot or the busy highway, if you are there to relax. The concierge was very helpful with Key West activity planning, the lobby at 24 was pleasant and the front desk employees were kind.
The newly eenovated Gates hotel had everything we needed. Even though its a smaller hotel by comparison, there are 2 pools, a rum bar, a Starbucks, and the 24 Hotel has a concierge. The room was comfortable and clean. Hospitality services kept in touch via text which made it easy to request additional towels when needed. I would definitely stay at the Gates Hotel again.
Spacious
We had a wonderful time at The Gates. Our room attendant did a great job, the pool areas are beautiful and the music and bartender made the pool area fun. We’d love to come back but my only complaint is the nickel and dime charges on our bill. Resort fee after we paid so much to stay here already. Ridiculous. Island Outreach Contribution- no idea what that is. Taxes on everything- Occupancy, State, Resort Fee, Resort Tax, Island Outreach. It just didn’t end. I understand some taxes are unavoidable but we’re not explained to us, but some are also ridiculous overages to the guests. Would I recommend this hotel? Yes, just be aware that the extra charges add up really quick beforehand.
Bartenders are awesome.
We paid a bit over $400 per night, we had to pay an extra $100 to use amenities which they literally kicked my husband and my kids out of the pool and games area without previous notice or even in a nicely manner, security was super rude, walked them to the exit and left my husband talking to himself while my husband was asking him if there was another room or other activities they could do instead, and all that because the area was rented for 2 hours, rooms (for the price of the rooms) were disgusting, tub was absolutely dirty with mold and shampoo, conditioner, shower gel empty.
Old style strip motel recently redecorated.
Nice Hotel and clean with a large pool, close to the old town and shopping area and restaurants.
$50 a night resort fee.... for??? There were two pools, but the pools were nothing special. No breakfast, no rental equipment, perks, etc. You had to have the hotel let you into the exercise room every time you used it. We had to ask for enough towels and washcloths every day and they weren't available at the front desk so you had to wait.... and wait.... We asked twice for shower gel in the room and never received it. It's not a resort.... just an adequate hotel.
communication with non english speaking staff was difficult. Gates side of facilitity is not well staffed. Coffee pot was broke and tech could not speak english, TV would not turn on with switch covered by maids. Phone was difficult and it is a long walk to your counter for us with bad feet..Be more considerate older customers to make a remote location work.
Was nice
Very clean and comfortable accommodations.
Upgrade not available.
Had to walk very far to check in and out no offer to help with luggage. All day they walk by the room with loud laundry bins waking up the entire hotel shouldnt be right outside the path for workers every 5 minutes walking by
Great hotel
The front desk staff was very very helpful and kind. The cleaning staff was lacking....we had to ask for washcloths constantly and the floors in the room were sub par - my feet were black....I did not wear shoes and could tell the floors were dirty. It would be nice to have other food options....I got tired of eating from the food truck....the roosters and chickens were beautiful but if you don't wear ear plugs you will hear them at 4 am - having other breakfast and dinner options would have been nice. The Tavern and Town restaurant was within walking distance, very good but expensive.
The front desk was inviting and helpful. Room was clean and private for rest and relaxation. Pool area-cabanas and bar were inviting and beautiful. Would definitely stay again.
My family and I loved our stay at The Gates. It was clean and comfortable and for the bill nicely when our departure flight was cancelled. The grounds were beautiful as was the pool. We hit The Blind Pig food truck for dinner and it was amazing! Staff were incredibly pleasant and helpful. We’ll start again for sure.
A pleasant stay with a convenient shuttle
The Gates Hotel is a lovely hotel with great amenities. The gym is beautiful. The grounds are well kept. Pool towels were always available. The only minor complaint is that the front desk staff are extremely slow and if you're trying to catch one of the free shuttles to get to downtown Key West, good luck as you'll be waiting in line at the front reception.
Nice place
1
Nothing stands out, below average amenities. Charged incorrectly at the bar twice in 4 days ( overcharged).
The place is very good , Service are good . Definitely stay again
This place was a great experience at the beginning. Nice pools. Comfortable beds and generally a nice experience because of the people I met. Breakfast ain’t all that so don’t wake up early for it if u need to sleep in. Customer service is really terrible. I had read a few reviews and I thought the reviewers were nitpicking but the people at the front desk will not even smile at you or engage is hospitality banter. I even tried to ask the girl how her day was and she simply wasn’t friendly. I saw be rude to another resident and I simply didn’t think much into it until it happened to me LOL I got alcohol shots and one day it was $5 the next day I was told it was $7. Lol I had to leave before my full stay because I ended up in a room with 3 old men and I’m a young female and I was told they had no other rooms so I wasn’t comfortable with that. Management wasn’t really nice about that and never followed up. Wasn’t even asking for a refund or anything. Terrible service. Nice place though if you can avoid speaking to people that work there.
Amazing staff, amazing food, amazing price. We loved it!
Everything was comfortable and clean, the only disappointment was the noise level of the rooster. Difficult to sleep.
I recommend that Carpet girl provide more information about the room location if guests have to go by herself to the room and It is the 1st time at the Hotel
Do not recommend
Stay was okay. Definitely not worth the price. Rooms are outdated. Morning breakfast was bad.
I had to call for room service daily, even after requesting it. The 1st room they put us in smelled like mold. Even after room service the floors were nasty. Your feet would be black after walking just once across them. And forget trying to talk to someone who speaks English. The pool was pretty nice but that was it. And be prepared to pay $50.00 per day plus tax for a resort fee on top of our prepaid reservation.my suggestion find a different place to stay.
Rooms were very comfortable.
customer service was not professional
Mostly nice
The front staff was friendly. Seemed like she was still training. The roosters went on a lot. Lol. We were at the quiet end which was nice. There was a lot of loud music, maybe at the pool? It was close to everything.
I love the roosters and hens on the property. The pool areas are clean and beautiful. The hotel is pet friendly so a huge plus for the future. Starbucks on the property kept me wonderfully caffeinated in the morning to start my day. The only downside was the $15 per day parking.
Rooms need to be available sooner than 4pm and especially on time not an hour later, after long day of travel! This is the main negative experience i had with this hotel. Otherwise its beautifully decorated, tropical feel. Alittle pricey for the amenities available but Pools were nice and warm, plenty of loungers to enjoy poolside. Security can lighten up alittle as they were pretty rude. I would probably stay here again if the few issues were fixed.
Breakfast was excellent. The floor in our room was extremely dirty. Housekeeping needs to improve.
Nice quaint rooms right on Duval. Our room was in the rear of the property so nice and quiet.
The staff was good but they would interrupt us every time we were in our room no matter if we had our “do not disturb” sign on. It did not matter what time of day either for servicing our room. We tired multiple times of day. So it really killed our alone time and made our stay not as nice as we would have liked.
Room was really clean. They had a bus going downtown that was really convienant. Hotel was easy to get to and parking felt safe.
This hotel was GREAT! We loved the property and sharing the amenities of both The Gates Hotel and 24 North! Staff was amazing to deal with. The rooms and property was immaculate! Looking to book again next year!
Good place
Says fully remolded but still under construction. Phone in room was not even hooked up . Late check out they locked us out of the room at 12 pm late check out was 1 pm . Free drinks were 15 dollars not 20 dollars and no one time free soft drink and food . 15 dollars a night to park at the hotel . Will not be back .
Services are not satisfactory. There is water leak in the room after rain. I am not going there again.
Nowhere were we told before booking that one of the restaurant facilities (the Blind Pig), one of the bars (Rum Row) and the swimming pool were still out of use for renovation or we would not have booked. We were also unaware of the $100 per night add on costs (local taxes and handouts).
Rooster
No access to the beach
Nothing
Service was good
The hotel said it was newly renovated and it did not seem that way at all with the rust on the shower head, seal along the door being none existent, toilet seat was connected to the toilet, and to top it off there were mosquitos that were in the room due to the lack of seal on the door.
Everything besides the room was under construction: no lobby, no bar, no restaurant. I checked out after 1 night. The manager was apologetic and responded well to my request of checking out early.
The hotel was great. The only thing was my room was not available at check in time for 4 pm. They said they would text me when it was ready. I went downtown took a boat ride by 7pm no text. I went back and my room was finally ready.
This place was way over price for $3,000.00 . I booked a KING BED but got DOUBLE BEDS!!!! False advertising for what I had picked out when I did booking .
The hotel is clean and staff is friendly.
Disappointing Stay Due to Misrepresentation of Renovations We booked this particular "resort" due to the claims of it being renovated. The pictures (kudos to the photographer) and the fabulous description. We were thoroughly disappointed. While the rooms themselves may have been newly renovated, several key aspects of the property were still under construction and unavailable to guests, which was not disclosed online. Major Issues: Pool Bar: Still under renovation and unavailable. It was being worked on and there was construction noise the duration of our stay Live Music & Food Truck: These amenities were also unavailable due to the ongoing renovations. There was no mention of this on the website. Lobby: The resort's lobby was closed, and we had to use the lobby of the adjacent hotel. This created additional inconvenience. It also seemed to create confusion to the staff as to which hotel we should be checked into. Shared Amenities: Because we had to use the neighboring hotel's pool area and bar, seats were limited and hard to find. The bar/pool is not equipped to service 2 hotels. Room Issues: Our smelled of cigarette smoke daily. We called to have the room cleaned and then gave up. The door seals are poorly constructed, allowing smoke and light to come through. What we originally thought was the room being previously smoked in was the fact that smokers were hanging out outside our room and that was seeping in. There should be designated smoking areas, it was extre
Nice place
Clean and ample bedroom. Nice swimming pool. easy parking
Stay was good. There is a lot of construction for remodeling, which affect the amenities available.
Bartender
The Bartender was not nice to customers. He kept using profanity when people at the bar asked where their drinks were. There is no reason why he should treat people that way.
Liked the ear plugs for the rooster crows at 3AM!
The 20 dollar credit toward food was lowered to 15 at the property and the. They didn’t deduct it from my bill The towels at the pool are tired and need to be retired.
Always a long line at check in, needs more help. 45 fee for concierge was a junk fee, bevervused it, the Ubers were excellent
Problems in Newly renovated property
Our stay was good besides the smell of Marijuana that indulged our room every night. Kids were in the pool after 10:00 pm screaming and yelling.
Was told they would text when my room was ready, they sent an email, which I never received. Front desk was disoriented, staff falling over each other. It was loud, they could not hear me or one another. A garden view room is a view of the garden, not a planter with plants next to a parking lot.
Overpriced for what you get
Incidentals paid C$75 pet fee per day, C$75 for resort fee per day and C$22.50 for parking per day on top of C$650 for the room per day. There is no area for the pet. No beach access. Only one server for a la carte breakfast. The room was poorly insulated. Not recommended
Wish there had been a sit down restaurant on the property for breakfast.
It was a nice relaxing area.
The room has okay except the floor of the shower was very slippery. The bathroom faucet was wobbly. The resort and parking fee was over the top. And no breakfast.
This property was the perfect amount of quietness for my husband and I. We enjoyed the onsite bar and restaurant. We did not like that we had to pay a resort fee and a parking fee every day on top of what we paid for the room. The resort fee and parking fee were also taxed separately each day instead of on the total at the end.
All good nice property. Bars and pools were great.
I liked the room.
The facility was nice and new. Very modern decor. However, some stuff does show its age. The window blind in our room was not working and we had to go to the front desk to complain. I had to personally go because the phone in the room was not working. The shower water was also hard to adjust to warm as well. Its either too cold or too hot. And as a VIP member, I was suppose to receive a $20 resort credit and 2 beverage credit. But the staff at the front desk did not offer it. I had to go back to show her a screen shot on my phone. And when I tried to apply the credit to my food bill, the charge went to my room charge at the end of check out. If I didn't check my bill, I would've paid the extra $35. Other then these complaints, the resort was nice and quiet. They offer shuttle bus to downtown for a $5 fee per person. They have 2 outdoor dining areas near the pools.
I liked the roosters on property
Fee for early check in. Dining options - terrible. One bar closes at 4 and the other at 10. No indoor options other than starbucks.
This place was confusing to check into as they have you do it at a different hotel two buildings over so if you needed something from them you also had to drive to the other building. the room was clean and had your basic necessities. I also thought I had left something behind that I ended up finding later but when I called and spoke with someone there, they seemed annoyed and weren't helpful.
The hotel was very nice and the pool area was wonderful. Loved the open space near the pool for putting and bags/cornhole. Starbucks we right next door for yummy morning coffee.
Didn’t like the new hidden fees that weren’t there before and the no microwave
Very nice! My only issue was with the 2 hotels being 1, the staff didn’t seem to know how to direct you to your room. A very nice man did come out and escort us to our room.
This hotel has a quiet and unique charm to it. It doesn't feel crowded. But at times, it seems too quiet. I stay at this hotel almost every year, during the October festival. And have noticed a steady rise in cost with no visible benefit. It is a perfect location to relax and rejuvenate. But not much else
The roosters began crowing at 4:45 am. It's Key West, so the roosters roam free and I get the uniqueness of it but still, it was an early wake up call outside the hotel, so be prepared, but not a huge negative.
the roosters were beyond annoying all day and all night. Knowing nothing of this prior , made relax, rest and fun mini vacation sleeping very challenging. no sleeping in possible
The resort was great in all aspects with the exception of the maid service, which was not so good. We were there for 11 days and the floor was never swept or cleaned. We had to used our shoes to prevent our feet from being black. We tipped them daily, and requested the floor be cleaned 3 times. The toilet was never cleaned either. Poor clean up, but everything else was perfect.
Love Staying here!
We have been coming to The Gates Hotel in Key West for years. We absolutely love it there! Already ready to come back:)
Jose the Manager was helpful explaining to us the access to multiple properties and Davit at the Toasted Coconut restaurant was incredibly pleasant talented and fast server handling the orders
All good
Loved the property. Hated the roosters at 3:57am.
I had a disappointing experience at this hotel. The check-in process was painfully slow, with long waits that clearly indicated poor management. The staff seemed untrained and unprepared to handle basic operations, which was frustrating. To make matters worse, some employees displayed an unprofessional attitude, making the overall experience unpleasant. The condition of the rooms was equally unsatisfactory – they were not clean and lacked the level of maintenance you’d expect from a reputable establishment. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a comfortable and hassle-free stay.
Every morning we would wake up thinking how well we slept, the room was very quiet and comfortable. The room was big and clean, with tiles instead of carpet, which I prefer for hygienic reasons. We used the shuttle for transportation. The one thing we missed was having a microwave in the room. We routinely got text messages from the concierge asking if there was anything we needed. Thank you, we will go back!
It was close to Oceans Edge where my other group was staying
It was well renovated on the inside interior of the rooms. Friendly staff that communicated extremely well.
The Gates Hotel Key West Newly Renovated | Hotel in Key West | Travala.com
Room and property were very clean Beds were comfortable. Property was beautiful, well maintained especially with the native chickens and its secluded from Main Street. Would definitely stay here again for a longer stay while in the lower Keys and highly recommend!
