owners are very nice
Property is under construction due to need and new owners. There is nothing offered other than coffee and water. No internet on the third floor due to plaster walls. Owners are working on this issue. The place is very old. Must use dead bolt or the door will open. It is clean and quiet. Hoping to go back when renovations are done.
The owner didnt mention that there are children living on property who would be playing outside late at night. There was nobody at the desk to check in, there was yelling throughout the house (yes this is very much someone’s house, it doesn’t feel like an inn at all). We stayed for less 30 minutes after seeing the state of the place. The floors in our room hadn’t even been cleaned. Not to mention the very noticeable dirt covering every other surface. It looks like the new owners haven’t taken any time to clean at all. The AC in the room also didn’t work and was covered in black mold. So even if it DID work, nobody should be breathing in mold. The rooms are tiny as well, maybe a foot and a half to walk around the bed and maybe 3 feet from the bed to the wall. That wouldn’t have been as much of an issue if the place wasn’t so dirty and the children weren’t outside screaming. We came for a quiet night stay after a wedding (without children as we deal with them all day) and we ended up leaving after 30 min and driving over an hour back home because we felt that gross and extremely unsafe sleeping in this “Inn.” The owners need clean the place and take NEW!!! PHOTOS of the place to accurately reflect what guests are getting by booking with them. If you’re traveling and don’t mind staying in a place that makes you feel like you might be woken up by scary banging on the door or by someone standing at the foot of your bed in the middle of the night, then this is the Inn for you.
Property needs the following: landscape upkeep; maintenance to front door (sticks); and plumbing (old toilets - poor water pressure); amenities (bad coffee, no breakfast or continental offerings). Great location and could be restored to its original cottage quaintness with some TLC. But needs major work.
Comfy king bed
The place is over coming new ownership so it has work being done but the new owners seem nice and our room was nice a clean and the bed was super comfy. I would love to see it in a year to see all the renovations done.
Horrible Service - I was not able to check in between 2 and 9 pm and tried multiple times to contact the inn to make arrangements since I already paid for the room. They did not answer their phones nor return my messages. I ended up having to sleep on someone's couch and lost my $200!!!
the inn has been sold and the new owners have not taken possession the restaurant and bar have been closed for years there was NO ONE working the premises keys were left at the desk other guests bewildered as were we
There was no one at the property to let me in.
Wonderful place.
For a bed-and-breakfast don’t expect any breakfast. This place is barely an inn. Don’t expect hot water it only gets warm, most rooms have no TV, housekeeping doesn’t exist. This place is in complete this repair. It does have a bar but oops it’s closed. We also have a non-functioning kitchen. Do yourself a favor stay elsewhere. PS the ratings are a big lie. Most reviews are terrible. It should be rated a one or two.
Very nice an cozy place, highly recommended.
The mattress was awful! The room tiny. The bathroom didn’t have a shower which wasn’t in the room description, just a tub which wouldn’t drain and had a dripping faucet that dripped all night long. The sink had no hot water. We were on the 3rd floor and there were no other people on site. At check in we were told the dining room was closed and breakfast was “off site” whatever that means. At night, I could hear the mice in the walls. Do not recommend at all!
They are no longer providing breakfast. While this statement exists on their website, it was buried several clicks deep and it was not readily apparent to us while booking. Also, the beds in the room were very uncomfortable.
It is a novel and charming experience to stay in an old country inn. This hotel fit the description exactly. Creaky floors and doors add character to the place and to the experience. The proprietors take good care of you, and add to the enjoyment of a retreat from the fast pace of the contemporary world.
It’s just sad that this once beautiful inn has been allowed to fall into this level of disrepair. The owners should be ashamed of the condition, close and do some much needed upkeep and restoration and then reopen.
I'd never stayed at a B&B before, so i was excited. When i arrived at 8pm, no one was at the desk. I said "Hello?" several times, then had to knock on doors. A guest came downstairs to help me. A guest! She told me that she had the same issue, plus no hot water. As we were talking, a man walked in. He asked why there was "yelling" I told him i was there to check in and he was very upset with me for not looking for my own paperwork on the desk!! He was very angry and very rude. Told me the key is in the room. I go up to my room and find the door locked. I had had a long, not great day and was at my limit so i asked for a refund and wanted nothing to do with them. I guess he felt bad (someone else had taken the room designated to me) and he offered to make up a room for me. 13 rooms, 2 guests (guy in my room and lady), 11 rooms unkempt. He offered it to me for free to make up for everything so i stayed...but no hot water. And no breakfast.
Nothing
Never have I experienced a more uncomfortable bed. UGH! The room itself was charming, lovely antique furniture, and although the bathroom was across the hall (??!!) the fittings were also period appropriate & in fine condition. A change or update of mattresses would make a world of difference.
A Disappointment
This old inn has clearly seen better days. There is so much potential for it to be a special place. The front porch looks lovely but there were no chairs to invite guests to sit and relax. The check in was about the only time I saw anyone at the front desk. There was absolutely nothing happening in the lobby. No common area and no sign of a bar, dinner or breakfast spot. The room was small with the mattress very soft. I slept very poorly as I felt alone on the third floor and a bit unsafe. My private bathroom was across from my room - an old tub with the curtain hanging from an old rod system. Thankfully the water was warm. No bathroom matt to step out onto. Getting back to the bedroom, it had zero amenties. No tv, poor wifl and little room to move around. I found NO reason to hang out in the room, just sleep. Very uncomfortable place for a woman traveling alone. The front door appeared to be unlocked at all times.
Very sad the place looked run down unloved! I was told we would have breakfast included and when I arrived there was a note saying my key was in the room and No breakfast would be Provided even though I paid for that! 😡 I understand they had water damage, but the carpets Weren’t even vacuumed and I was cleaning up the coffee station daily because it grossed me out. I have stayed at the Inn in the past and this was my last I’m afraid very disappointed
They claim our room is a suite. The extra bed is a pull out couch so uncomfortable that a dog wouldn’t sleep on it. Or a rollaway single bed. It’s embarrassing to say its room sleeps 3 people. The owners should feel ashamed.
We had a wonderful stay! The owner was very sweet and helpful.
Old inn that has seen better days. No. TV or radio in room. No grab bars in bathroom.. No change of towels. Bed.not made up. Parking was good
Check out how you check in PLEASE!
Before you make a reservation here, make sure you read the check-in policy. I wanted a place to stay in town(this is it) because I was participating in a parade the next morning. Check-in is from 2-9pm. I was running late on a Friday after work and realized I wouldn't get there until after 10. I called and left a detailed message around 8pm. I then read another policy that if you come late you must let them know 48 hours in advance. I didn't know if I should drive the whole way or stay where I was until morning because I tried to call many times BEfORE 9. Still no answer from anyone. If you could check in at 9 and I was one of 11 rooms you would expect they( who actually run the business)would have been available at least to answer and tell me whether or not to drive 2 hrs there. At that point, I had to choose to not travel with no refund. Policy is policy. Not convenient for this traveler.
It is like stepping into the past. The antique furnishings and the inn being built in 1832.
Absolutely awful, dirty, moldy, creepy. We were the only car in the parking lot and nobody was there to greet us. Literally the Bates Motel. This place should not be advertised on Travelocity in any manner. Complete fraud and rip off. We left after 10 minutes and found another hotel. I am demanding a refund from Travelocity. As a premium customer, who spends thousands of dollars a year on Travelocity I hope I don’t have to fight for a refund.
Expensive for the offerings
Very very expensive, too expensive to have no staff present (we never saw a person) and to say no breakfast without a credit or voucher. The room was beautiful. It was just priced like a resort but without the amenities of one.
This Inn is vintage but clean and comfortable. Exactly what I hoped for in New England!
Randy, the owner, was an excellent host. The location was very convenient to our friends in the area.
Friendly ownet
Highly disappointed with Monadnock Inn
I would not recommend the Monadnock Inn in Jaffery NH. The ower is trying to sell the place and isnt taking care it. The day we arrived he let go of the Inn keeper, and the only other employee. The outside & inside have seen better days. There is no food onsite. The pictures on the website are from days gone by and very deceiving. In room 303, the mattress is softer than soft and sags very much on one side. The screens on the porch are torn; the floor boards and carpets are worn. The air conditioning is on the fritz, and when you flush the toilet it makes a noise in the tub. When you go to the front desk down the hall you aren't greeted by a friendly host and he had left our key in the door to the room we were staying because he was having problems with it.
Property was closed due to water pipes bursting...they left a note on the front door. We were forced to scramble and find another room late in the day.
I loved the rustic feel of the Inn.
Mountain trip
Clean and friendly with modern amenities.
Very lovely old inn. Cozy and comforting. Had a great stay!
Old
Beautiful lodge that is on the way up. Owners seem to be adding in steps. And yes, they have towels. This is a Fall Foliage must stay.
The room was fine if tired. I appreciate the character of the place but if you are looking for a brand new Marriott Courtyard then this is not the place for you. There is literally no staff. You check yourself in and out. If there were not other folks staying it could be a bit scary. My room did not have a TV. I honestly never checked the other rooms. Could be the case with all of them but I am not sure. They did have a Keurig for coffee in the am which was a plus.
Restful and relaxing
It’s a very old Inn. They were not serving food, but that made the stay very quite and very peaceful. If you like a lot of attention, don’t stay here. I like the serenity and would stay here again. If you do need assistance, The manager was responsive if you call the number of the front desk. I set up my laptop for work in the non used dining area and worked peacefully for several hours. 👍
Property has character however is tired. Web page advertised breakfast included; there is a sign when you arrive stated they suspended breakfast in 2021. It was fine for one night
Gracious old inn. A lot of work put in to upgrade facilities. However; no hot water on second day. Place needs a facelift. Should be excellent with live-in management.
I don't think another person was in the inn except me the entire time I was there. It was very lonely, they left keys and notes for me but I would have felt better If I saw at least 1 other person in the 12 hours I stayed there. By the way, they no longer serve breakfast.
Excellent old inn with unique rooms, lots of character and the owner or manager made handwritten notes for each of us checking in. Spacious room any huge bathroom, i would definitely return!
Transition
The owners were off-site and left the operation to a very nice but overwhelmed staffer. No hot water, no breakfast. Apparently, the Inn is in the process of being sold. We're hopeful that new owners will restore the former charm.
A funky old in with uneven floors and some paint that looks like it was done by a drunk amateur. It has personality. It also had plenty of quilts/blankets, which I rarely get enough of in other hotels, and the AC worked great, too. I'm sorry that the restaurant/breakfast wasn't open, but maybe next time.
Many major problems NO Food xcept diy coffee machine not work. Steep narrow stairs.no staff in morning. No price drop with lack food. Verry poor overall.
They are not serving breakfast, which was one amenity i was looking for when i booked. I didn't find out they were short staffed and not serving until i happened to look at their website to see what time breakfast started. This would have been nice to have communicated at check in.
Our stay at this property was so peaceful and was one of the highlights of our trip! The Monadnock Inn is so quintessentially New England…We look forward to visiting again !
It could be beautiful, but needs updating!!
Charming clean great service
This was a peaceful place, but I chose it because there was supposedly a restaurant with food and drinks…when I arrived I found out the restaurant hasn’t been open in two years! Also, there was no shower, just an old fashioned tub with a hand held shower that was so short you could barely get it around. We were on the top floor and stairs were steep and narrow. Not easy for someone with bad knees. I wish I knew these things before I booked.
It said Bed & Breakfast. No breakfast. Pictures show a restaurant & Bar. Everything has been closed for a few years. Cob webs on the ceiling in Bedroom. Screens on porch ripped & blowing in the wind. Place very run down. The pictures on-line are very deceiving. Reservation was for 2 nights but only stayed one. No one at front desk. Have to call a # for someone to show up.
We love the setting and the rooms we have stayed in. The lounge area was too dark to read at night. The listing on the computer says bed and breakfast. There was no breakfast. Also the Inn used to serve dinner meals at a cost. We missed that.
Love the notes that were left at the check in desk and room. Never saw a clerk. However, i wouldn't call the Inn senior friendly as stairs were narrow and there was no elevator. Great place for younger people though.
It was a very disappointing experience. First no one is meant to be present when you arrive. There are a series of hand written notes with directions to the room with the key left on top. Its a large place that has the sense its seen better days. It was essentially deserted and the restaurant as been shuttered. It feels it might have had charm and energy in a bygone era. I had booked a two room suite to accommodate myself and another guest. Space and privacy in mind. When we got to our room it was not the room I paid for. It was a single room with one queen bed. Not what I booked. No one was around to discuss this issue. Then I noticed the note on the table where the keys were left. It included a note and a phone number for issues. I got a hold of the woman who explained that my suite had a sink issue and the room I was given was the only option. Needless tobsay none if this was explained ahead of time. The room I did get only had one outlet and no TV. No shower. Only an attachment on a clawfoot tub. It was clean and renovated nicely for an older building. But it was soured by my rough sleep on a cot. It put a damper on the trip.
It did not serve breakfast as posted on Expedia. Also, the shower did not work well.
Nothing I thought it should\would have been.
Well although this hotel is quaint and old mostly it is just old and the staff is non-existent. When I got there there was no one even there to check me in I had to just grab my key off the counter with a note saying it rooms upstairs…..I stayed there for one night and literally saw nobody for the entire time the front desk was always empty let alone no employees whatsoever…… so I had problems like the air conditioner wouldn’t work and there was no one to talk to…… The bed was saggy and the lighting was horrible so if you’re older you’re not gonna be able to see anything…..on top of that the advertised free breakfast was nonexistent due to the restaurant being closed but it’s hard to run anything if you don’t have any employees whatsoever….. there was extension cords laying all around my room … broken fans rickety furniture but I guess that’s all part of the old world charm……. The place is a total rip off, a lot of money for no value whatsoever
Charming Inn
This is your home grown type of Inn, antique furniture, creaky beds, flower wallpaper. It’s about the experience, which I am a huge fan of. It’s an old dusty adorable inn, it has character & charm. If you’re looking for a fancy hotel this isn’t your place. I personally prefer the mom & pop feel. It makes for great memories. The woman at the desk was kind and thoughtful. Additionally, it’s in close proximity to mount monadnock.
No one to receive guests. Just handwritten notes and keys. Room not as described - booking said queen and twin. There was no twin bed. Found overwhelmed laundry room closet and hopefully clean blanket for my son to try to sleep on couch. “Breakfast” was a box of grocery store donuts and bananas left out in lobby. TV only had half a plug, so no TV. Overall creepy and disappointing. Everywhere in the area seems understaffed so it’s unfortunate. Hope they come back.
your kidding me right?
Never saw a person representing inn. Communal bathroom not advertised. 2 towels in the bathroom for 5 rooms. Bought the room for the full breakfast advertised. Note on table said no longer serving breakfast. If I knew ahead of time it was a shared bathroom and no breakfast there is no way I get the room. Sounds to me a little like false advertising. Very ,very dissappointed.
Great inn
This was my second stay and it was cozy and quiet
Quaint inn, reminded me of a Victorian home
I just stayed one night this trip, so I can only judge by one night, property was very homey and well cared for, I had a small room because that is all I needed, it was very cozy, the only disadvantage was no tv in the room and my internet wasn’t the greatest, not sure it was my fault or just the connection.
The staff were so accommodating to put a cot in our room for our daughter. We were all so comfy. We had a wonderful cup of coffee and a donut provided the staff. We were very appreciative. We look forward to another visit there in future.
beautiful, charming with buckets of character. It will be superior all around once the breakfast and bar area is open again.
Good coffee
I wish hotels.com was updated as I was expecting breakfast but I was pleased to see coffee with real cream & a variety of sweetners were offered.
Very comfortable, got a room upgrade, wonderful recommendation for dinner.
Confusing place
Checkin was a hassle. They had no one at the desk and a bit of a scavenger hunt of notes with directions. One note said to call if no one was there, but did not have the area code which we did not know because we were not from the area. When we did reach them, they said we were late to check in and that there were no rooms available even though we had already paid. Eventually they sent someone who reported not actually working there who gave us our key. Also the internet did not work at all and we had to ask the person who didn’t actually work there for access to their private internet. Understandable due to covid, but they also don’t provide food despite other places finding a way to with limited exposer risk. These are all small concerns considering the price is hard to beat, but areas they could improve on. Otherwise, it was an interesting place to stay.
Travelers beware. The photo looks like a quaint New England Inn. The reality is a filthy, falling down pile of lumber that said goodbye to its glory years long ago. You would be better off camping in your car at a well-lit parking lot than spending a night here. It is not possible to comment on the staff because they don't even bother to appear! Guess what--they can't stand the place either! Time for the Monadnock Inn to close for good.
It was easy to find and good location. Yard needed mowed , stuff all over house like a storage unit. No staff.the noises from the mechanicals running all night off and on did not make for a good night's sleep. of the heater and/ heatet running all night.running.
The building was old and in need of repairs. The stairs were very narrow and difficult to climb. We were on the third floor. And my husband is disabled. They were unable to find us a room on a lower floor. The room was tiny and the bathroom was across the hall, not in the room itself. And the toilet didn't flush. It was a B&B with no breakfast. No staff...just husband, wife and teenage son. The wife was clearly overworked. The husband appeared to be overwhelmed with the upkeep if the place, and the boy just stood around a lot.
Everything was super clean, beautiful rooms. The owner was really nice and helpful. Bed was comfortable.
The inn is clean well located and very tired and there is no help. The manager did everything she could to make our stay good.
It was a lovely location but my arrival was disappointing in that the door was locked and no one answered the number found on line. I was just about to leave when another guest arrived and she kicked the door (which was locked) open where we then found a welcome message and key.

Hi it’s a beautiful inn and very comfortable
