Ibis reading
Tv limited channels but not that important to me because I never watch tv at home anyway, all in all very good value for money and staff nice and polite would stay again if in reading
Value for money in a good location. If they took a little bit more care with maintenance would be excellent value
The man at the reception was very friendly He gave me a room upgrade when I arrived which I didn't really understand why The room he gave me had a slight smell of urine and the Aircon unit was noisey The windows look out onto a flat roof and you could smell the Indian restaurant next door The basic look of the hotel was good There wasn't a lot of chose for the breakfast I expected better from a ibis hotel I have stayed in others before and did not have any issues
No air conditioning. No early breakfast.
OK for one night
The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was very tired and extremely warm. Believe it was overpriced for what it is but was fine for the night.
First visit yes
This Hotel I find is more for asian people than euoropeans. Room was noisy so I requested a move a different room. This was done. Info in the bathroom says bath mats were available, the hotel didn’t have anything. Ask I am 85,it was quite differerent, standing in the bath with nothing to hold on to keep my balance.
I liked our breakfast meal
Great stay at the Ibis style. The room was so hot they provided a fan. Only one negative thing was that there was an extract fan from the restaurant that was very noisy.
Worst hotel ever
Nothing worked including tv, air con, bathroom extractor fan. Nasty poop looking stain on carpet. 1 set of towel firba two guest room. Horrific. Never using an ibis again
Good location. TV Channels not available. Internet unstable
Worst Stay for Years
The worst stay I have had for a long long time. I chose this place due to the Name Ibis. I wrongly assumed the “style” part of the name would be a step up from a Budget hotel. (I’m not a fan of the budget Ibis, but the others have largely been decent) This hotel was unreal! I asked to change room because: there was no bathroom light, the earth cables for the radiator were trailed loosely over the floor, the shower only went hot or scalding, the floor coverings were disgusting, the decor was really tatty (I understand that places have to upgrade gradually, but wow), no aircon (not a prerequisite obvs), no signal on the TV, incredibly hot rooms even after the heatwave and the beds were way past their best! When I changed room, the only thing that changed was the bulb in the bathroom light!!!! Spoke ti another family who stayed also and they were furious. £140per night, I would expect better. The restaurant downstairs for evening meals made good food and the staff were pleasant. That’s the extents of the praise I could give.
Overheated on a Hot Day.
The first room we were given, did not have air-conditioning and it was a heat wave. The windows did not open and the TV did not get any signal. We complained to management and they moved us to a room with "A/C". The A/C just blew warm air, we could not get it to cool at all. The radiator in the bathroom was on MAX heat the whole time and the shower only put out scalding hot water. We found out the problem with the TV was with their provider, so they did not have service to the whole hotel. In the second room, only 1 of the 3 windows opened as well. They did give us a fan, so they tried - but failed miserably. Service was the best part of the stay. It is not the main IBIS hotel close to the station. This is close to town centre as well, but it is to the west of the Oracle. 2 mins walk from the Oracle.
IBIS Centre is better than IBIS styles
There was no air con. The IBIS has Air Con my bedside lights didn't go. The TV was tuned
King Alfred's Way stopover
Stopped overnight bikepacking. Staff were super friendly and accomodating of two dirty and sweaty cyclists. Breakfast set us up for a further full day of adventure.
Good Stay
Very clean, friendly staff, no complaints whatsoever
It was a fair place for the price. The property is a little dated, but the there were no issues with cleanliness. The staff was great, they gave me local tips and offered to provide me breakfast a full hour before the normal breakfast time. The location provides easy access to the city centre, buses and the train station.
Not good
Room was very noisy with people running around, and extractor fan from restaurant outside window breakfast was served in a carrier bag with nowhere to sit and eat it . Somebody wants to let them know covid restrictions have been lifted. Normally stay in Ibis but will think twice in future.
Explore another option
Not so good experience heater made lots of noise early in the morning, Air con not working, cleaner came to the room and started cleaning without your concern. Only plus point very near to the city centre.
Good stay. Mattress could do with changing as it slopes in the middle.. room 103 But overall good stay
This was a lovely spot to stay as right in the centre of reading… car park is a bit tight to get into but other than that a excellent location and hotel… very clean and staff are very helpful
Never staying again.
Walk in and there’s empty drink bottles in the plant pots. Had to get my room number on a receipt - as no cards. It’s been raining and the floor is wet with no wet floor signs. The hallway smelt like urine. Room incredibly basic, the lights loose so couldn’t direct it. Covid breakfast in a bag is fine but surely you should ask for dietary requirements, as a vegan all I could have was the juice. Incredibly thin windows, heard all the outside noise.
Car parking was handy - definitely get what you pay for. The room was dirty - light switches with foreign material on! Room was very warm and neighbouring guests less than considerate with late night/early morning noise.
One night stay
This is very centrally located in Reading Centre and it's quite good value for money at the quite low price we paid. The room was a good size, the beds are a bit small, the pillows really need replacing, and we struggled with the hot water temperature which was generally scalding. It was very clean but it it looks in many ways like some minor repairs or refurbishments would really help. There is a curry restaurant underneath and there was a faint smell of curry... not a problem for us. We struggled with the traffic system in Reading and it took us a few goes before we could locate the small and tight car park behind the hotel.
Room was terrible, paint coming off walls, carpet had stains and to be honest the place just look tacky. Wont be staying again
Free breakfast only if you have no intolerances
Room was comfortable and well sized and not much noise from outside. Staff seemed friendly but struggled with the idea of dietary requests for the advertised free breakfast. We gave them plenty of notice for vegan and dairy free but all they would offer was normal milk and yoghurt, normal croissant containing butter, cereal with dairy ingredients and an orange juice
OK for the money
Hotel is OK a bit tired looking but clean and tidy. Budget room but has all you need.
Not great
Wasn't great. I used to stay here quite regularly, but it's really declined since my last stay a few years ago. It's cheap, the bed was clean and comfortable, the towel fluffy and the TV worked fine. But that's the only positives i can give. The water from the sink tap was brown; the shower head sagged down, so impossible to stand under it. No tea/coffee making facilities (I'm sure it used to have); what used to be a lovely continental buffet breakfast is now an awful 'grab and go' brown paper bag of things I'd never eat and a single use plastic bowl and spoon. There is no longer a hotel bar either:(. The place is noisy - but it's a town centre hotel - so something you expect really. And all the rooms smell like curry- it's attached to a curry house. The smell has never bothered me, but i can imagine it would be annoying if you're not a fan of the smell.
The staff were very helpful
Smelt of Indian food throughout common areas and corridors Reception person hidden so had to shout and interrupt her eating some dinner behind the desk Brown water came out of the sink tap. Mentioned it at check out and was told “yeah that happens, just run the tap”. Like it was my fault! Disgusting Using covid as an excuse to not serve breakfast and given a bag with poor quality items to take away, yet still advertising “free breakfast” on Expedia Bed pushed up against wall in room, radiator in between, thought I might get burnt on night but it didn’t work! So it was cold. Exposed wires on bathroom towel rail, also didn’t work Won’t be back, needs closing down!
The hotel was very clean
Wrong room
The room was ok but it wasnt a queen (what we booked)
Chose elsewhere
Appalling hotel. Felt dirty shower didn’t sit in cradle, broken light in bathroom sink blocked. Will not stay again.
Hotel very centrally located in town centre. I arrived late and was greeted by a friendly staff member. The building is very old, so some quirks are to be expected. There are lots of steps and no lift. The room was a massive disappointment. It and the whole building stank of cigarette smoke. There were burn marks on the furniture. The room was generally tatty, the carpet was worn, stained and completely threadbare in places. Furnishings seemed very dated. No tea or coffee in the room, you have to go right back to reception and ask for a cup to make yourself a drink from a machine. Breakfast was very basic but available to takeout. Overall way below the standard of other Accor properties I’ve stayed in.
Not the greatest room outside an ahu going off all night
Hotel dated and no air con
Receptionist/Duty Manager checked us in and took for 2 night parking. (I don't think it was not clear on the website that parking was additional.) Our room, although clean and nice, was uninhabitable because the bath was constantly running, an awful waste of water and an extraordinary oversight by Housekeeping in releasing the room for us. There were no double rooms in the hotel but the DM found us a room in the nearby George Mercure. The disruption meant that we did not want to stay a second night. Notwithstanding phonecalls to Hotles.com and confirmation from the DM at the IBIS that they would agree, the 2nd night parking has not been refunded. Pity. we have had some good visits to Ibis before.
Some signs of some even if the room was smoke free. The wall paint no really fresh, windows full of dust.
Easy to extent the staying
Under Covid situation , staff provided special arrangements to fit for me. such as flexible check in time, breakfast in room. However the overall facility is still bit of old
Nice stay
We had a good stay the parking was a little expensive £8 for 24 hours but was a lovely stay waking distance to everything eating drinking and shopping.
No heating. Excellent receptionist
Everything good except for no heating in the room. The young lady receptionist was exceptionally courteous, friendly and helpful and gave me a small heater. Without that I would have had to go out and buy one myself.
Radiator wasn't working so the room was cold. Finding the room was a challenge - stairs were a labyrinth with very poor directions. Was in a noisy area where people were constantly coming and going. The shower wasn't working properly, temperature was not hot enough. Really bad experience!
For starters, the cleanliness - or should I say the lack of, really does not live up to the expectations that one would have when booking a hotel. The room was freezing cold, heating did not work. The
0 stars
hot water wasn't working, no elevator the stairs are very confusing, overall very bad experience
The room was dreadful dirty stained carpet and tiny - nothing like the photos. I was moved the last night to a better room and then discovered I could order a hot drink etc for breakfast. No one had bothered telling me this I just saw a note in the room. Can someone from ebookers please contact me about this
Nice stay, nice staff.
Very good, pleasant polite staff, free tea and coffee machine.
Good location for station/town centre. Pleasant staff. No complaints.
Staff has good hygiene for coronavirus. They cleaned their hands with hand sanitizer before handling my check-in.
Its location is perfect. Staff were friendly. A packed continental breakfast included.
o air con
I had first room lovley and quiet but problem with hot water No cold water avaiable think it was 208 and then i have been moved to room 111 and the extractor fan was loud all night it was hot and clamy and No fan in room worst night I ever had hardly any sleep as I was only staring for 6 hours to sleep in. I work in another hotel chain brand and definitely will not be choosing ibis again
Was ok, but....
The first room I got was very dirty, but the team was very nice and offered me straight another room and apologised. The team did all their best to make my stay better, however, the 2. room was clean, but the window was blocked and by almost over 30 degrees on that day, you can imagine how the night was. Even with a fan was it impossible to rest.
I'm afraid I did not have a good experience: - Nobody manning reception. I had to search the ground floor to get somebody to check me in. - Dirty room - 3 excrement stains in my toilet - Signage, following the signs was not the most direct to my room in the rabbit warren of the hotel. But you don't know that until you've taken the roundabout route - Only 5 of the 50 TV channels worked, the rest all said Poor Reception - Kettle didn't work - The breakfast included rate only includes continental breakfast, its another 6.95 for anything hot. I would not stay again and would not recommend it unless the rate is very low.
Clean and comfortable, breakfast was nice, A little difficult to find
Shocking honestly
Avoid avoid avoid. Got moved rooms twice and the least grim one we.could find had such bad water pressure it took an hour and a half to fill a bath. No lifts, narrow, uneven, rickety stairs. Wallpaper peeling off. Damp, grubby, black mold in the bathrooms, paintwork in bad condition and everything just needed a really good clean and paint minimum. The 'styles' bit was a gaudy carpet that looked like it had been there since the 70s and a weird knitted footstool... other than that more basic than a travelodge room and they sre much better quality. Staffs attitude was just sort of "what do you want us to do about it" which in a way i could sympathise with because the only thing that would have helped was being in a different hotel.
Good local and hotel
Got there late, had last room available. As it was small I was offered a drink on the house which was a nice touch
Don't even bother.
The hotel standard is terrible. The shower is horrendous and would either run freezing cold or boiling hot, to the point I filled the sink to wash. The room is extremely outdated with windows that can't/won't open, which is terrible when the heat of the room cannot be adjusted. I didn't even try the breakfast included after the standard of the hotel, I left as soon as soon as I could.
Scruffy and dirty.
The room was extremely shabby and dirty. I would never have booked it had I realised it was so bad. The bathroom was disgusting- dirty and shabby. Tide line around the sink- just horrible. Walls need repainting- scuff and dirt Mark’s everywhere. Carpet - kept my socks on! Guy on desk at night - very helpful though.
Good stay
Perfect location, good price friendly staff. Lovely continental breakfast
Central location with easy access to Riverside and shopping. Hotel was very tired looking and in need of a major refresh. No hot water for the shower in the morning.
Good budget hotel especially if you like hard beds
Cheap, clean, tidy, spacious. The only thing lacking was the comfort of the bed.
Lift problem not displayed in write up.
Our stay was just for one night and the only thing that marred our stay was the fact that there was no elevator the stairs were narrow and difficult to manage with large suitcases.
Great staff & clean so really good experience - would stay there again!
Not a great experience
The hotel lift wasn’t working and I was on the 3rd floor which was difficult to get to due to having to climb so many steps. Breakfast included in room rate was continental which was clear from the booking I have stay at the other ibis in Reading where cooked breakfast is included in the ro rate. I wouldn’t be coming back.
Good value
Friendly and helpful welcome on arrival. Member of staff made sure to explain how I could get the discounted rate car parking. Room was much too hot and opening windows had little effect. Included continental breakfast was very good.
Good value
Slightly eclectic style and felt like a bit of a rabbit warren but v quiet comfortable room and helpful staff.
Nice little Hotel !
Great hotel with super helpful and friendly staff - continental breakfast included was a nice little bonus and there was a great selection also.
Central and clean
Very centrally located. Friendly staff and good continental breakfast. Be aware that there is no lift so best to get a ground floor room.
A bit run down at the edges but adequate. Breakfast only continental a bit poor.
Did the job.
The hotel is based very close to the centre which is a bonus. The room was very hot with only a small fan that didn't help in the slightest, couldn't leave the windows open as it was loud with machinery. The bed was comfortable and the shower had fantastic water pressure. There was a lot of noise from other guests that went on till 5am which was annoying. Overall it was OK for what we needed it for.
Won’t stay again
Room overlooked an internal courtyard poorly kept with shopping trolley and various detritus. Sash window opened but room was very poorly ventilated, not helped by cooking smells and cigarette smoke smells - can only assume the kitchen and smoking area were nearby. The room seemed in need of a refurb up to modern standards. I paid a low rate for the room but still feel it was below that level.
What it says on the tin
Really friendly staff (not sure of his name but believe he was Irish) very friendly and helpful receptionist. Rooms are very basic but clean and somewhere to rest your head. The location is fantastic for central reading shops and restaurants. Breakfast isn’t great, grab a coffee and a pastry and head elsewhere. Faint smell of food from the India restaurant, I did feel like I could smell it on my clothes after leaving but no biggie.
Wasn’t happy with my room (217) a lot of the free view channels were poor signal. Someone came up to reinstall, some channels were found but still a lot missing. The kettle was changed but did leave a verbal problem with the shower door not closing correctly
Excellent location. Rooms were larger than expected and well appointed.
Great location
Great location
V stuffy
Very stuffy room.could open window as mosquito would come in.room gas no air con. Very hard i stayed their..after complaining i manage to get them to move me for tge second night. But personally no one should be given rooms on 1st floow vety stuffy
Ibis central Reading
The only ploblem with this Hotel is their is now lift.
We had a room on the 3rd floor - not the one we booked. In any case the room was spacious but lacked decor. The bathroom sink had chips in it looking like dirt and the top rim of the toilet bowl was full of dark marks. The bathroom whilst a good size needs modernising. There was also no hot water on the second morning (drip drip) and pressure was low generally. We could hear pigeons! There was no lift and the stairs going up to the 3rd floor are narrow and windy - not ideal. On the positive we had a kettle, a proper hairdryer, the heating was great and the room had an extra fan and plug in heater.
Its above a curry house and I really am not a fan of curry. The room was good but in the corridors outside it you could smell a hint of tandoori.
Everything to expect from a budget hotel
Run down hotel situated in a run down area of the city. The room was in serious need of a refurb and expected quality of a budget hotel. Location was ideal backing onto the Oracle shopping centre and parking close by as well as the hotels own car park which could hold only a small number of vehicles.
The check in was efficient. No lift working, but I was only on the second floor with a small bag. Would not have liked to lug a suitcase up the stairs. After the first floor the signage was not clear to where the next level was. The room was clean and tidy and very quiet. No one around when I went for breakfast, but a nice little man met me at the table to confirm my room number.
The room was very cozy, and was a nice room to go into after a long day. My only complaint would be the stairs are rather confusing to navigate.
Great location, clean room (had the solo room), but couldn’t regulate the room temperature so it was super hot plus shower wasn’t very powerful. Good for a pit stop visit.
.
Good central location, friendly staff, room was clean and well furnished. However, floorboards in my room were very creaky and bathroom felt like it had subsidence. Bed hard and smelt like the previous guest.
Amazing stay
Great hotel
My room was made out of a cupboard, radiator not working so they had wheeled in an oil radiator. Shower cubicle was cheap, plastic and a nasty unit and mold around it. I would not recommend this place to anyone - £105 a total rip off for the room rate.
Good location in the middle of the town centre. Staff very helpful and accommodating.
Parking issues
Well I arrived at the check inn and 10pm. No one was at the reception. Got told I had to walk for 2 mins to another building to check inn. I checked in then I want to give details of my car registration so I get charged. I was told I might get charged for parking but they couldn’t check in my car because they didn’t have a system in the other building to check inn
Good value for a great central Reading location and a reasonable continental breakfast to set you up for the day
Not uncomfortable but not clean either.
Easy enough checkin but that’s about as good as it got. Bedside light not functional and black mould in the bathroom due to non functional extractor. Reception informed on checkout but nothing more than a passing “we’ll get it looked at”.
Hotel was clean , tidy, very comfortable, the Indian was very nice, ( this is attached to the hotel)
Booked single room with twin bed, but got a single bed
If you pay more than £50 you’ll be disappointed, don’t try and have a lie in as woken up by house keeping staff shouting in the corridor.
Clean and comfortable, great food!
I was very impressed with this hotel for the price I paid. The room was relatively small but adequate for my needs. It is a modernized older property. What really impressed me was the restaurant - the Royal Tandoori. I had an evening meal there and a great “inclusive” continental breakfast with a huge selection. Service was friendly and unobtrusive.
Stairway to a cupboard
Arrived to man peeing in car park. My room was up about 5 flights of stairs and was like a broom cupboard.
If you are in Reading please avoid
Awful, dated hotel not what you would expect from and Ibis. Room stank of stale cigarettes that had been embedded in the furnishings over the years. No double glazing hence the three plug in heaters in the room. Which also meant I was woken up at midnight until late gone 3am by rawdy pub / club goers. I requested a room change at 1am as I couldn't take any more but was we are full! When I complained in the morning I was told "oh it's the students this is the main route from town to their accommodation. Perhaps you should request a room at the back of the hotel next time". I will not as there will not be a next time. Shame on you Hotel.com for listing this place no where near what what I would have expect.
Oddest bed ever
Pleasant team but absolutely awful bedroom, totally inaccessible if you have mobility issues. The bed is a mattress on badly painted plywood. Don't book a single room unless you fancy re living student days.
Perfectly placed hotel for central Reading. Room was spacious and very comfortable - easily the most comfortable bed I've come across. Breakfast had a good selection of continental options - cooked breakfasts were extra. Shower pressure was fantastic! Easy walking distance to train station, shopping and dining options. Overall a wonderful place to stay, highly recommend.
Cheap but nice and friendly.
Good value for money, great location. The buffet breakfast was very basic.
Staff friendly and helpful. Wi-fi didn’t work with IPad. Floor was a bit creaky. Hotel attached to Royal Tandori restaurant which was superb. Breakfast buffet included in already good price. Good central location for downtown Reading
