We would stay here again! It’s about 5 minutes from Joshua tree national park, we had an easy check in, it’s a little out dated but it was nice.
Our room was clean well maintained. This is a good value for the price.
Road trippin
I was in town to go to Joshua Tree National Park and this motel is the perfect location. The room was comfy and spacious with a fridge and microwave. An older motel but well taken care of.
Thanks you High Desert Motel!!
We had a blast! Old school roadside motel in Joshua Tree with old school roadside motel vibes.
Affordable comfort and convenience in Joshua Tree
Another great stay at the High Desert Motel. We brought our own pillows this time, but I think the pillows had been replaced since our last visit. Joshua Tree National Park was beautiful, we had a lovely breakfast at Food for Thought Cafe on the grounds of the JT Retreat Center, visited the Noah Purifoy Foundation again, and stopped into a gallery opening at the Beatnik Cafe.
Probably the worst place I have ever stayed. If I could go lower than 1 star, this place would be it!!! Don’t waist your money.
Check in easy, clean hotel near Joshua Tree entrance
The hotel Needs some renovations.
The hotel need some updates, hard to find people on front desk at nite and morning, went there 8am and no one there. The room feels not very clean, no extra blanket and the only ones there are thin and smelly. It is also hard to find wall charges for my phone.
Nice place for a one-night stay. This is a small older motel that can offer affordable rates because it doesn't have high overhead costs. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed a restful and quiet night of sleep before a long day exploring the National Park.
The facility was older but very clean rooms and grounds
This is an old-school motel with a convenient location near the NP entrance. The price was right and the room was reasonably clean and functional, if outdated. It was quiet enough for us, also. The pillows were bad - very thin and worn out - and the door lock was in need of repair. But we were otherwise happy and would stay again, especially at this price point.
On the edge of town, not much within walking distance. Slightly dated, but well-maintained property. No frills
I booked a room here and then within a couple hours, got called into work. I stopped by the motel to ask if I may be refunded and they refused. I ended up losingy money because I booked it through Expedia and not directly through them, according to the man at the front desk. I had Expedia call them to see if I could just move the reservation to next weekend and they wouldn't allow it. You'd think that a small business would be more accommodating. I've stayed here plenty of times but won't be staying here again. That just left a bad taste in my mouth.
The biggest compliment I can give is that I always stay here whenever I travel to Joshua Tree. I’ve been coming here for about a decade now and it’s always clean and comfortable. The motel is older and it’s showing its age and it’s off the main highway so there’s traffic noise but otherwise, this is the best deal for lodging in the vicinity.
Old style roadside motel conveniently located.
Close to Joshua Tree National Park!
There is nothing but the highway around here. Cars going by can be noisy.
Old furniture and facilities, smells, seems not very clean. noisy because of the highway not far away. Good thing is that it’s close to Joshua tree national park. It’s convenient for those who like to spend the whole day in the park, and come back to sleep after watching the stars.
Although it was an older motel the room was excellent and looked like it was completely remodeled.
Clean great location but definitely dated
Clean & comfortable for an overnight stay
The room was clean and spacious. We did not like that all road traffic can be heard. Thin walls.
Pleasant staff. Decent accommodations. Great price for a short stay.
It was convenient for what I needed. It is next to a highway so I did understand that it would have noise pollution. I was only there for 13 hours so have limited review information.
High Desert Motel is in a great location and has all the basics.
Basic comfort in Joshua Tree
Very pleasant stay. The room was basic but comfortable. It would have been nice to have a few more pillows on the bed, but the bed itself was comfortable and the refrigerator was useful. Location is very convenient to Noah Purifoy Foundation and Joshua Tree National Park. We would stay again!
Picnic area
Decent motel. Bed was comfortable. The parking lot area was nice and clean. Even had picnic table, which was nice. Pool area looked clean, did not use though. Would definitely book again.
Just average and dated rooms
Clean, comfortable good for one night stay
Solid motel room
.
Great place
Clean and affordable just not updated
Great location near the park
Good budget option.
Hotel was fine, it’s the least expensive place in the area so good option if you’re on a budget. Room was clean, quiet at night and bed was fine. Pillows were pretty bad, I would pay a bit more to get better pillows. One light fixture didn’t work, should be replaced with an LED and it would pay for itself. Bathroom fan made a lot of noise, just remove the plastic fan so you could still use the light.
Very close to park entrance
This place is really conveniently located just a couple of blocks away from the Western Visitor Center and many of the best eateries and cofffee shops and other stores in Joshua Tree. It beats camping for those trips where you don’t have the time to do so or you just need to get some quality sleep for an early morning adventure. Helpful staff will accommodate late arrivals.
Joshua Tree
Very close to Joshua tree entrance. Very easy to enter an exit the national park multiple times a day.
Quiet and safe environment.
Value and location
The guy from office was being a rude and disrespectful and recist I’ll never check in on this hotel do for the guy on office
This motel was very clean and tidy. Was a great stay. I'll be back.
Great stay
This is a great place if you just need a place to sleep for the night while on the road
Perfect budget friendly motel. Older decor, but very clean and well serviced. Extremely close to the park entrance, restaurants & coffee shops.
Above avg room
Stay was nice. It's not a 5 star room but if you need a nice, clean room with a decent price that's very close to West entrance of Joshua Tree, then this is a good option
Very good budget motel
Needs a remodel.
It was ok
Not recommended
This place is very old and in need of updates. The front desk is a joke. The smoking outside our room was terrible with a cigarette butt can mounted the the stairwell it was terrible. Not a recommendation from me.
They nailed all the important points
The location was literally 1 mile from the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. We had a long trailer and they only had 1 space to park it. So you may want to check with the manager before booking. We were able to walk to Thai restaurant nearby. The Indian restaurant was full of people who had been waiting an hour for their food. The manager was great. Hello helped us park our truck and trailer. He said he would join us for the SpaceX launch at 10. He didn't, but the launch was spectacular in the western sky. The room was enormous for a motel, our stay was quiet, the water pressure was amazing and the bed was super comfortable. They nailed the most important points. Highly recommended
This place was close to the park. Employee was helpful and check in was easy. Older air conditioner but it worked and cooled the room down eventually (stay was in October but during a heatwave. Signs say to turn it off while youre out). The room was clean, there was plenty of parking. Its a basic motel room and just what we needed for one night. There was a fridge, which was great. It was the lowest priced room at that time. I would come back again.
Room is older but clean. Great location for Joshua Tree NP, and the little town of Joshua Tree is quirky with great people
The bed needs more pillows. Some of The towels have stain mark.
Funky, but seemed clean
When we walked into the room, we were..... I don't know how to desribe it. It was the worst decorated room I've ever seen. The picture does not do it justice. The "art" on the wall was a print of a British hunting scene with no glass and a wavy mat. The walls not only didn't match, they didn't coordinate. The curtains and bedspread didn't match anything. The bed was comfortable, though, and, although the motel is on a main highway we didn't hear auto noises over the noise of the AC, which we kept on all night. The bathroom seemed clean and there were no bugs. I just can't get past the incredibly bad decor. I wasn't terribly surprised when the credit card bill came back as a "Motel 6".
Clean and close to shopping & dinning
Cheap and cheerful. Good location, clean
A nice place for a nice price.
love this place, will be back asap
For the price, this place is great! Just needed somewhere to sleep. Clean room and bed close to the park. The building is old but that’s fine.
Down to earth, affordable motel. I've stayed here several times whilst visiting Joshua Tree and it is a good value stay.
Met my needs for sleep and a good bed. No frills. Office staff was helpful when airline finally delivered my luggage
I’ve been staying here for years. It’s in close proximity to the park and other services.
Very clean motel
The rooms could use a little updating but was one of the cleanest places I’ve stayed at. It is a Motel so I wasn’t expecting 4 or 5 stars, but it did exceed my expectations for the price. Bonus: it was close to Joshua Tree entrance.
Cheap and clean
The hotelier recommended Sam's Pizza and Indian food for dinner. The lamb curry was out of this world! Beds were quite comfortable.
Older property but interiors have been painted and upgraded. Room was very clean and location is excellent right in Joshua Tree Village close to visitor center and Main Park Blvd drive to park entry.
Property was very clean and check in was a breeze. Would definitely stay here again.
Good all round peculiar decor very, 70s motel in a stunningly beautiful area at a reasonable price.
I ran out of toilet paper. Should have been in the room. I had no bath towels for a number of hours. The water was so hot I could hardly take a shower. NO cooler water available. Otherwise I was fine with the room. It was large and had nice colors, and was clean. Imwould stay here again.
The place was conviniently located close to the entrance of joshua tree. There are plenty of restaurants and shops near by as well. In the heart of the little area. Room was decent. Took a little to cool down. The carpet made it feel a bit warmer, but after a while to room got to a good sleepable temp. Pillows were flat sadly, but we made it work by putting the extra blanket under as a cushion. Check in was nice and easy.
It is conveniently located near the Joshua Tree National Park. The pool is very clean. Our king room had 2 tiny pillows, smelled of smoke and the bathroom was dirty with urine stains.
Over all this hotel was good value...the manager was little strange
Stayed here five nights; generally this facility was good for the price. I liked the room size & layout, very comfortable bed, etc. AC worked well; a little too well, I adjusted it from 66 to 72! A couple of minor issues. The sink was draining poorly, but this seemed to be fixed or went away in a couple days. They didn't replenish soap during my stay. Also, probably needs new double-pane windows to cut down on traffic noise from the highway, especially early morning (my room was nearest the highway).
Great stay
The A/C stopped working during the night, making it very hot in the room. The hotel management issued a partial refund of 15$ for the inconvenient, which was well appreciated, thank you.
Clean
Perfectly good place for a night!
Well maintained road side motel. Clean, comfortable bed, everything you need for a night.
Very clean but older facility. Air conditioner worked hard and loud to keep the room at 80 degrees but it was over 100 outside during the day so still not terrible.
For a motel, this one was better than most. Clean room, the shower was both hot and had good pressure. refrigerator, and the room was unusually spacious for a motel. It was just a one night stop over for us, but if we are ever in Joshua Tree again we would definitely stay there
Rooms can be be a little updated but besides that can’t complain.
Owner’s communication was excellent. Perfect for visiting Joshua Tree!
AC did not work and the room was very hot
Great place to stay for the price. Very clean and easy check in. Helpful staff. Just not updated furniture but bed is very comfortable.
Nice minimalist stay; all items in room were in working order and clean. Bed was comfortable, all necessities were accounted for. The property also clean and safe and well maintained. A few blocks west from the western entrance of The Joshua Tree National park and all its restaurants, cafes, nature market, Nomad Ventures, licor stores, visitor center, gas stations, and the Saturday farmers market. Larger chain stores to the west just about a mile away. Super convenient and well priced. I will consider staying here again whenever I don’t have the option or time to camp.
Good for stay for one night. Fine swimming pool. No place for eating.
Rooms were super clean, the area felt safe, and the staff was so kind and helpful with recommendations and tips! Wish we could’ve stayed longer! This place has everything you need.
Me and my wife love this motel. We stay here every time we come to Joshua Tree. Yes, it may seem dated in the decor, but the amenities excellent, the staff is friendly. Check is always super quick and the motel is just a few minutes from the park entrance. Cannot say enough good things about High Desert Motel. We well enjoy it.
Property has been remodeled and upgraded since my last visit... Very good
This is an economical motel that delivered just what we wanted and expected. The minifridge, microwave, coffee maker, A/C, TV, and pool all helped to make our trip a little more comfortable, and all at a good price.
Nice, chill stay right in the heart of the Joshua Tree community. Very close to nearby shops and dining in a unique town. Motel is charming and simple, had everything we needed.
The owner/manager was very accommodating about our late arrival. The beds were comfortable and the location was fantastic. It was a very good value.
Wonder place definitely our go to spot from now on
The pool area is nice.
very small and old
Don't judge a book by its cover...
My initial impression was this property was going to be a downer. But when I got to my room, I was pleasantly surprised. Comfortable accommodations, mini fridge and microwave in-room, and a real coffee maker! TV has a good channel package including HBO. The pool was open, unfortunately I didn't have an opportunity to check it out. Overall, the High Desert Motel is a hidden gem. Very reasonable rates, clean rooms, nice amenities and great water pressure in the shower. I will be back!
The front room 201 had all the Street Noise coming through the air conditioner. Much to Loud! Would Not recommend this room!
Can't Keep AC on while gone.
No earth shattering complaints. One thing to be aware of if you stay here, they ask if you leave to turn off the AC, which when the motel is located in a brick oven, is rather disappointing. If they upgrade the electrical/AC situation, then I would not have any complaints at all :)
Clean but dated
They’re making the most of an older facility. My room was clean and had plenty of space. The location was ideal for exploring Joshua Tree National Park. The downsides were an AC unit that was inadequate for the heat of June and spotty internet.

Budget Friendly Motel, Large Rooms
Great budget friendly motel for a quick trip to Joshua Tree. Had all the amenities you need in the room to save some money on food as well. Fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee maker. Room was large but you do hear noise from the road. We will be back.
