Great room. Comfy and clean. The service was friendly but understaffed. The pool closed at 5 which was more than disappointing for our kids who had been traveling since 330 am and the bar food was not good at all. Breakfast was good though.

The hotel is impeccably clean and the staff is as professional as can be. Everyone very friendly. Breakfasts delightful. We bought ours as part of the package. A very hard working staff cocktails very reasonable. I did mention to several that another restaurant in the complex with a different menu would be nice. Gift shop is outrageous priced. Miyako restaurant was excellent. Uber is necessary to get around

Fabulous choice!

We arrived very early and were given a wonderful room well before check in time. Enjoyed the pool area and great food. Left very early next morning. Check out was a breeze and we were very comfortable in the beautiful living room area next to reception while waiting for our shuttle.

It was Okay

Wish there was more clarity on the breakfast and buffet I spent $50 on a buffet I had 1 peace of chicken and rice due it being not good to me or my partner. The place and pool and bar and room was excellent just the food was not good.

It was a 45 minute wait to check in and even at 4pm our room was not ready had to go wait at restaurant and when we came back waited another 20 minutes for keys only one desk clerk working and he checked our party of 10 into 3 king rooms even though we booked doubles, had to come down and wait again….just overall poor staffing levels

The grounds and public areas are beautiful; the rooms were average for this level of hotel. The staff seemed baffled by figuring out how to get us from a 1 night independent stay to a tour stay. The food (buffet) at the hotel was average at best; inexcusable that it was so hard to get a cup of coffee at breakfast (1 working machine?).

Service lacks.

There were no bath towels, and only one hand towel. There was soap dish, but no soap bar - in both bathrooms. I had to call housekeeping twice before someone brought towels but no soap. The staff could not understand “soap”. Service not to the standard of Barcelo.

My experience at Barceló San Jose I must say exceeded all expectations. To the wonderful grounds, amazing pool and bar area to the dinning option (both restaurants) and probably the best hotel bar it’s big enough to be a lounge with great drink and food options. Hotel lobby entrance with a piano right in the middle. I would like to pay especially more attention to the three people who stood out the most to me. 1st Linsey she is part of the fabulous wait staff of the entire hotel. My first night I didn’t want to go out in the city and grab dinner cause I was traveling all day so I decided to have dinner on the property at the hotel bar/lounge and what a great decision that was. When I walked in Linsey greeted me with a great smile and ask how can I help you I told her I was here for dinner and she sat me right away with a drink and dinner menu explained my options for food and drinks.overall i never I had to wait for anything and Linsey really made sure my experience was wonderful. Keep up the great work Linsey. Secondly to the awesome team at the pool and bar area Orlando and Jessica. I was traveling all day and I needed a drink and something to eat. Upon my approach to the pool/bar area Orlando was the bartender (speaks great English) Orlando made sure I had a drink and food menu then introduced Jessica as his teammate she greeted me with a warm smile and mentions anythin you need we have it here covered at the pool. Service was top notch. Drinks and food were amazing A

A little old feeling. No restaurants open on arrival. Staff were friendly. We waited a long time for a shuttle. We provided our flight number, but we had to wait with other guests for a shuttle. $30 penalty to give up and call a cab. Pool area is nice, but the gardens were really good. Bed was comfortable. I would go there again.

We stayed at this resort for two nights when we landed in San Jose at the beginning of the trip and again for a couple of nights at the end of our trip before we flew out. The hotel has a nice pool and the lobby area is nice. The rooms are standard - not very modern. It is not walkable to downtown - we had a car and drove there, it was not far. Overall would recommend.

This property is only about two miles from downtown San Jose but is quiet, with a nice lobby, excellent amenities including a large landscaped pool, health room with workout equipment, jacuzzis, steam and sauna, outdoor tennis courts and secure parking. An urban oasis.

Unbelievably Poor Customer Service at Reception Having stayed at this hotel for over 300 nights, I expected far better. Unfortunately, the reception team has turned a usually pleasant experience into a frustrating ordeal. Upon arrival, the staff member responsible for checking me in disappeared for lunch without a word. A kind and apologetic trainee tried to explain the situation, but I was left waiting with no assistance. There was only one guest ahead of me, yet their check-in took over 15 minutes. When I requested additional help, it took another five minutes for the manager to show up—without offering an apology. She almost charged me again for my prepaid stay, which I had to catch and correct. Things didn’t improve after check-in. Loud music blared until 11:30 PM, my room had no towels, and both my wife’s key and mine stopped working. Returning to the reception for help, we were met with arrogance, condescension, and unnecessary lectures about key card use. What’s most frustrating is that the rest of the staff—luggage, restaurant, bar, and pool teams—are fantastic. It’s the reception’s unprofessional and dismissive behavior that ruins everything. Even other guests I spoke to shared similar frustrations. To those staying here: Give a bad rating - It forces management to address these glaring issues. Unfortunately, I also found myself angry at “Mario,” one of the few kind staff members, as my tempere was…. From a guest that have stayed here since 2009 - NEVER AGAIN

A Wonderful Stay

This is the second time I’ve stayed here with my wife 3 years ago. I stayed here by myself for 4 night before she joined me and am staying a few nights more. We’ve loved both times. The staff is so friendly and courteous. Everyone so helpful. Love the pool area and the different restaurants that are apart of Barcelo. Love the view from our windows, the premium lounge on the 6th floor and who ever was playing the piano in the lobby.

Internet crashes constantly. This has been an ongoing issue for months. Staff is not helpful and always blames on a third party provider. Reservation bumped

We made a reservation a month in advance but when we arrived we found the hotel overbooked !! We the had to wait for s shuttle to take is to a B grade hotel with no hot water ! It was am unpleasant experience. Why could they not have emailed is in advance, to let is know that are room was no longer available!

Extremely Disappointing

Here’s your revised review that follows the guidelines: The worst experience I’ve had at a hotel. I prepaid a month in advance through a booking app, and when I arrived, I was told there were electrical issues on the floor I was assigned. The hotel had arranged a room for me at a different property, claiming it was just as nice and had comparable amenities. That was far from the truth. The alternate room was not equivalent in quality, and the experience felt like a significant downgrade. When I raised the issue, Barceló refused to offer any compensation, stating there was nothing they could do. I also spent an hour on customer service with the booking platform trying to resolve the issue, but received no meaningful support. After a full day of travel, I was left feeling frustrated and completely unsupported by both the hotel and the booking platform. tldr; poor customer service, very disappointing experience.

On arrival to this property I thought I would’ve had a very warm welcome especially that I was going to review this property on social media. Staff knew minimal English and gave me my room keycard without explaining where breakfast was, scanning keycard in elevator, lounge access or any amenities. Throughout my week my wifi kept logging out and I had to call them multiple time for a new voucher number. My keycard to get in my room had to be changed about 6 times because it wouldn’t work despite me keeping it separate from other cards or devices. Airport pick up lacked an extreme level of communication, they would say the shuttle is coming in 10 mins and it will show up 50 mins later, the drivers knew zero English. The room was very out dated despite being on the 6th floor. Only thing I enjoyed was the view from my room and their breakfast options. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

I would rate it at most a four star hotel. Staffs are unfriendly. Front desk took forever with checking in/out. Rooms are old and need refurbishing. Not a convenient location if you’re looking for food. There are 3 restaurants inside the hotel but they’re only open after 6pm. Nothing is close by its vicinity

Great hotel and excelent morning bufet. Rooms are little bit aged, but fresh and clean. Large pool area and with BBQ and ALL you can drink. Nice atmosphere

TV had to be repaired. Room phone did not work for rooms service orders. Maid came knocking at 8:30am to see if had checked out. She should be in touch with her management team, and not disturb us.

We were upgraded to a suite which was very nice for the money. The desk staff was helpful as we tried to get transportation to the airport. The bellman allowed us to use the shuttle since it was not fully occupied.

We had a problem with the pre arranged transport from the airport due to flight delays and heavy rain, but the quick and professional response from the staff quickly resolved the situation. The hotel is well placed with good rooms serviced by courteous and professional staff.
