Very noisy air conditioners

The air conditioners are poorly located and very noisy. The air conditioner for the next door room kept me awake for most of the night.

No one at reception to great us on arrival at 2pm. Had to phone to get instructions for Room number & admission to it. Toilet bowl dirty with seat half off plus shower screen hanging off rail which had to be rehung prior to use.location only redeeming feature.

Spacious older style motel, very clean, well equipped good parking.

Would have been nice to have AC on after arriving after a very hot day. Only 2 towels for 3 people and no faces after a hot sweaty day and having booked for 3 people wasn’t ideal. Shower is very old and grubby.

Owners were lovely, was a great quiet place for us to stay while watching grandchildren in the cricket carnival. We were happy to be on the outskirts of Portland. Suited our needs for a sleepover place. Very clean and lovely fresh smell on entry. Lovely big towels too.

Out of town but just off main road so easy access to the main town.

Terrific location - good quality fittings and comfortable beds. We were very comfortable and the reception staff was very friendly.

We book a room on wotif and was told that wotif had authority to state this price... So we were given a basic queen room ... But wotif said they were paying the difference... Talk about ridiculous Only good thing was the bed was comfortable .

The property was clean and neat however, the bed was very uncomfortable. The room could do with a refurb as it is a bit outdated. The staff were very friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome and our check in easy as we arrived late.

Room was clean and tidy. Facilities to make a coffee, but the kettle would not fit under tap in the bathroom so made that a little tricky. Overall ,a pleasant and comfy stay.

Stay if you like worms...

They had worms and other wriggly stuff living in the couch. Need I say more...

the reception was always unattended. Looks like a ghost town. Owner was busy doing renovation works away from reception in one of the rooms. Location was too far from city. Food, drinks and shopping was only available by car. Certainly not to be recommended @$113.00 per night! Carpet had granite pebbles and hurriedly vacumed. Room was comfortable.

On the edge of town, and for me, convenient to head straight out of town the next morning to Port Macdonnel.

Spacious room. Room was very outdated. Very old and worn out carpet and furniture. Could do with some updated furniture and renovation. The bathroom was renovated.

This is a very good motel. The rooms are nice and clean and spacious . The owners too, are very friendly people and I thought the rates were excellent.No complaints at all. I have stayed there before and will happily stay there again.

Very dated room with very old air conditioner that rattled constantly. We had to go to the office to get enough towels, plates and glasses for the number of people we booked for. Notes everywhere telling you what not to do...

Quiet and comfortable

Love my colourful shower! Comfortable room, the motel seems to be in the process of being done up. We were pleased with our stay at Portland.

The property had everything we needed for 1 night. It was comfortable. The only complaint I have would be the noisy air conditioning. Overall a good experience.

Love staying here always a good experience. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Always my first choice on our regular trips to Portland with or without the kids :)

Place was clean and tidy and staff were fantastic. Only complaint was i could hear everything the other guests were doing the sound seems to come through the air con and found that frustrating late at night and very early in the morning.

Very restful place, quite & spa was so invigorating. Has Netflix so that is also a good thing with variety.

Looked at first outside view a bit unkepmpt.staff very friendly and then the rooms were well catered for and clean as.comfortable beds and all you needed for a great night stoppover.price was great.$120 for two adults.ya cant complain at that.very nice accommodation and i would recomend to anyone for a stoppover.Had breakfast there and delicious and served hot too.thumbs up to this little gem motel.cheers greg and jacqui.

I booked through wotif and unfortunately the state of Victoria went into lockdown so i was unable to go. I called wotif and spoke to laksham and requested a refund and explained the situation. He stated he would escalate the matter and i should get a result in 24 to 48 hours. I called the Whalers Rest Inn Motel and they told me that wotif dont pay them until 3 days after my payment. It has been close to a week and i have had no response and no refund either. Wotif has been very unhelpful and i STRONGLY SUGGEST EVERYONE NOT TO BOOK ANYTHING WITH WOTIF. THEY BASICALLY JUST STOLE MY MONEY!! Once again Do not book through wotif!!! Better to just burn the money rather than book with wotif. Never again. Worst experience ever!

Photos much better than room

The photos looked great and very reasonably priced, so we booked here. What we found, however, was a poorly cleaned basic room.

All was ok until 2nd day when I left sign on door to do housekeeping and when I come back only thing was done was kettle put away and bed pulled up. No new towels but 1 was taken away , bathroom wasn’t cleaned . So I only had 1 towel for day 2 shower and one tiny , tiny little milk in fridge that wouldn’t even colour the tea or coffee.

Very friendly staff and great location not too far the city centre

The motel was conveniently located for us slightly on the Melbourne side of the town to enable easy to where we needed to travel. The Motel is in need of a good overhaul to bring it up to a good standard

Great location on the main road. Large parking area. Rooms were clean & comfortable. Staff were very good. Would be nice if had a swimming pool.

The Whaler's Rest is exactly what you want in a motel. Well priced, clean, spacious, and the owners are very friendly. The rooms are not fancy with designer fittings but that's not an issue because have everything you need: kettle, microwave, TV, tea & coffee, AC/Heating and, of course, beds. There is also free guest wifi and a breakfast service available. The bathrooms include a hair dryer and a daily towel replacement service (or you can opt to reuse your towels if you wish). The Whaler's Rest is about a 5min drive from the centre of town which makes it a quieter location. There is a well stocked service station 2min down the road for basic items. There is also a pleasant walk towards the ocean and down to Dutton Way if walking is your thing. I would very much recommend the Whaler's Rest and won't hesitate to stay there again when I'm next in Portland.

It had all the usual amenities you would expect such as a microwave, toaster, small fridge and kettle. I liked the shower head that changed colours, that was different.

Very nice motel on the left going into portland. Very clean rooms. Tv.mircowave.kettle.toaster.air cond..electricity blanket. Very comfortable to sleep and pillows very comfortable. Also had a bbq area.

A little bit out of town but easily accessible and good value

Reception was closed even though it was still the hotels opening hours. Had to call a number to find out about our room. No contact with staff our whole stay.

No tv service at the time of stay. Bit dirty under bed used milk carton spilled inside of fridge in which we cleaned up. Spiders ln toilet and above bed

It was a nice room. Great value for 95.00. Shower was amazing.

The customer service was very very good. The hosts were very respectful and provided a high level of personliadd service. The gentleman owner waited until I came back at 9pm to find out how I wanted my eggs cooked. The breakfast was made with attention to detail. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

The room was a generous size, property was very neat and clean inside and out, no traffic noise will definitely stay again.

Property was not advertised as pictured, needs updating, did not feel safe with door, looked to be an interior door not a solid exterior door. too small a refrigerator.

Great 3 star hotel. Very happy to support local establishments rather than big chains. Young guy was awesome, very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was lovely. Would stay again.

great to find a room with two large beds, older style, but bathroom was updated and carpet was new. Only seating in room were kitchen style chairs which were low and uncomfortable.

The room was a good size with 2 queen beds. Free wifi. Good heating, abit noisy but ok. Turned off once going to sleep and was very warm. Bed was very comfy and had a good sleep. Quiet room. The shower is instant hot. Owner is friendly and helpful. We had continental breakfast included which we picked time for it. Overall stay was great and would stay there again
