I would not stay here again.
This is a charming, eclectic art oriented hotel. The flower room bar is delightful, a great place for photos. The location is great for sightseeing in the central historic district. What really sets this hotel apart is the staff. They could not have been more welcoming, helpful, kind and fun. We are definitely planning on returning!
Staff was excellent
We had 2 rooms one room was great other one smelt very very bad, they has someone come clean but the smell lingered for the 3 days we stayed. They did not give us a new room. The rooms are very very dark. For breakfast we are vegetarian and not much to eat and they would not accommodate to make something for us The staff is excellent and amazing and took the extra step to help us
Love this hotel and would return here again
My husband and I loved our stay at the Torel Avantgarde. We were forced to make a last minute reservation after finding that the AriBnB we reserved was horrible and not at all as advertised. Last minute reservations can be tricky when you are also traveling with two small dogs. However, the front desk staff responded to our inquiry immediately and we were warmly welcomed upon arrival. All of the rooms are named after artists and we were assigned the Van Gogh Suite. Like Van Gogh, the room was dry and moody. It was also very spacious with lots of room for our luggage. Housekeeping brought up two beds for our dogs and treats. They also offered bowls but we had brought our own. We were also given a bottle of champagne and offered two drinks at the bar. The bed was very comfortable and I slept quite well. Everyone at the hotel treated our dogs like celebrities. We were even able to bring them downstairs for breakfast and dinner because we had them in a stroller. The breakfast buffet is great. The bread that is served at the hotel is amongst the best I have eaten in my life. The staff was so accommodating and professional. One person asked us where we were going for the day and offered us lunch suggestions. The manager also comped our parking fees for each day because of an unfortunate experience we had at dinner. They also left a card in our car wishing us a safe journey and provided a bottle of water. Great staff and accommodations!
The hotel design is ver unique
Great staff, Poor room
The staff is great—they are the best part of this hotel. However, the room is poorly maintained, dusty, and dirty. Our stay there was unpleasant
The breakfast was amazing! Walking distance to so much or a short cab ride.
Great spot!
Everything about the hotel was great, the staff was friendly and accommodating, as a family of 4 we walked everywhere! The only complaint my husband had was the room needed more lighting, but aside from that we loved our stay at this property.
Really loved the stay. We upgraded to a suite and it was a pleasant experience all around. The things driving my review down from 5 to 4 are small and not deal breakers but worth noting to give feedback. Positives are everything imaginable we were happy with. This is a beautiful hotel and feels like a luxury experience with kind and attentive staff Negatives Some of the things they do are not very clear/slightly confusing and the additional small charges can add up/get thrown on top if you’re not vigilant. It’s not the end of the world but something to note. For example we were told we’d have a complimentary drink when we checked in (similar to a 4star hotel in Lisbon) we decided on night 4/4 to use the drink and went to the bar and ordered. I mentioned we were doing the complimentary drink and staff didn’t say anything to correct us when we ordered 2 Porto tonics. At the end we finished and I was given the bill. They clarified that the drinks were not free, only red/white wine, etc etc etc. it was $20 so I paid it without complaint. My issue here is this wasn’t clear after a few conversation points. Not a deal breaker but worth dropping. Same with checking out. When checking out they showed the bill for the drinks as mentioned but then there was another $25 charge for “city taxes” I agreed to it, paid and went on my way. My complaint is this was handled up front or mentioned when checking it. Not terrible, not even bad and understandable but the clarification early lacked
Excellent property with great amenities. Staff was outstanding and extremely helpful.
Torel Avantgarde was the perfect place for our trip to Porto. From the warm welcome we received from the staff to the delicious breakfast buffet and omelet station each morning, we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The room was very spacious and unique, and the property was beyond beautiful and close to the river as well as numerous restaurants, shops and attractions. We will definitely stay here again if we find our way back to Porto and would recommend to anyone and everyone who is visiting. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!
Wonderful but lacked hit water pressure.
Wonderful service, views, food and bar. The water pressure was severely lacking, to the point I was not able to wash my hair. It was in a great location with walks to the river and numerous gardens. We’ll be back.
Wonderful stay! Beautiful rooms, helpful staff.
The staff was welcoming and helpful.
I am in the luxury hospitality space in Mexico , running my own luxury villa rental company and after all my travels in Europe and around the globe with an affinity and appreciation for luxury experience, I have to say that this hotel reached the peaks of customer service excellence. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and very on point for pretty much everything. I was really impressed! Thank you to the team and hotel for creating a memorable experience.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was perfect with one of the best views over Porto. Loved our stay.
The rooms were very comfortable and the beds cozy. Bathroom was a little small but that's Europe and I'm sure it was bigger than most. But we Americans are spoiled. The food in Digby was absolutely spectacular. So interesting and unique. We ended up eating there a few times.
The property was in a great location. The service we received daily was excellent. Bed was so comfortable. The room we were in was close to an exit door and it was noisy. Restaurant and food options were great. Would definitely return to this hotel. Would like the hotels we reserve to honor the gold status perks more other than a bottle of champagne on arrival.
The property was amazing, we absolutely loved it! The staff was incredibly helpful with dining and tour selections. We would highly recommend this property!
We had a really good stay . Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
unique style, friendly service and great breakfast
A wonderful boutique hotel with amazing decorations and art. Each room has its own motif. The staff is amazing and could not be more helpful and friendly. Easy walks to dining and sightseeing.
10/10 in Service
A+ !! The staff is kind, welcoming and friendly. Enjoyed my stay. Thank you!
Unbeatable hotel. Pristine room and incredible service. If you’re not sure if you should book it - you must!!
Fantastic hotel with incredible staff, wonderful breakfast and a quiet location but with easy access to everything we wanted to see. I would definitely return. The best.
Great location and very nice hotel.
👍
Great views, nice staff and good breakfast but not a five star hotel in the details and service. Understaffed, room service food is average. If good quality sheets, good pillows and quality soap is important to you, you will be unhappy there.
Beautiful stay!
La situation et lapiscine
Great. Amazing staff
The property has a unique and fabulous internal decoration in both the general areas and bedrooms. Everywhere was kept clean and tidy. The staff were great from the moment you approach the front door and are welcomed to the hotel. The pool and restaurant has beautiful views over the city and river views to the old port houses on the other side. The breakfasts were gorgeous and food we had was all very good. It is easy walking from the hotel to the beautiful areas of Porto. Within a few minutes you are either on the river front or in the main old city and all it has to offer. If you want to be well looked after and pampered in a fabulous hotel within Porto you can't go wrong with this hotel.
Service and cleanses.
This property was absolutely beautiful! The staff go above and beyond to get you acquainted with the space and amenities. The views are beautiful the location is perfect.
Amazing spot
Room and hotel were amazing. Spectacular views of the river and Porto. Staff were very attentive and friendly and also very accommodating to our toddler
Our stay at Torel Avantgarde was nothing short of impeccable. As a gold member of Hilton and Marriott Hotels, I can confidently say the service we received here was top-notch. Every detail was meticulously attended to by the outstanding staff, making our visit truly memorable. The staff at Torel were invaluable resources, assisting us with everything from selecting restaurants to arranging excursions. Their most significant assistance came when they helped my husband secure a car rental, which was conveniently delivered to the hotel on our last day, allowing us to explore the stunning Douro Valley. Our accommodations in the Coco Chanel room were extraordinary. The room featured a Roman tub facing the river and a private balcony, offering a luxurious and relaxing experience. It was worth every penny. To the Torel Avantgarde family, thank you for making our first visit to Porto, Portugal, extra sweet and memorable. We look forward to returning.
We stayed in the Maisonette for our honeymoon. That room is definitely expensive, but with the private pool and extra levels of service, it was worth it for our honeymoon. They were very nice all week.
The staff was impeccable!
The star here is the staff. They cannot do enough for you. They helped us with restaurant/taxi bookings, printing, questions, all sorts. They do everything they can to ensure you have a great trip. The hotel is gorgeous - an excellent choice in this city. It is up the hill and set away from the busy Ribeira area. Our room had stunning views. The balcony is great with table & chairs, shaded and private. There is a large concrete bath, big enough for two, which gives stunning sky views. Large comfortable bed lots of pillows plenty of large towels, nice toiletries provided. Big wardrobe with lots of hangers. Rainfall shower is lovely and nice toiletries. The blackout curtains are excellent (but not wide enough - eye mask needed). Breakfast is excellent. All the usual cooked produce, cheeses/hams/fruits/spreads etc but just with an extra touch of class. There is also an 'egg station', where you can order poached eggs, eggs benedict, omelet etc and it is made fresh and brought to your table. It is very much worth the money. Food is available all the way until 11:30 p.m., in the bar or the restaurant both provide a really nice selection and high quality produce dishes. The cocktail barman is extremely good at mixing. When we stayed here it was a major festival in a city, and the staff put on a great party for the guests. Would highly recommend staying here as a couple for up to a week.
Great property and staff
Beautiful venue and outstanding service but on the expensive side for Porto and that area.
This hotel was wonderful and truly special. Service was excellent, food magnificent, beds and room were excellent and clean. Massages and spa should not be missed.
Beautiful luxury boutique hotel with a lovely history and beautiful design. Each room has it's own character and the common areas are well designed and fun. Small and boutique stylewith lovely views of the Duoro river from the terrace and pool. Management eager to please and staff just very helpful and polite and happy to make your stay a delight.
Staff is wonderful. The attention to service they provide is A . Who knows if I’ll ever be back in Porto but if I am I’m definitely staying here again.
Every room is a unique experience! It feels like an artistic oasis once you arrive!
Beautiful hotel with amazing view of the river and the city
If you are looking for a beautiful hotel with views of the river you are in for a real treat. The staff is incredible. They helped with activity and dinning suggestions and reservations. The hotel interior design is stunning. The food at the hotel restaurant is excellent and bar offers craft cocktails. The location was not far from the excitement of Porto.
Very good view of the river from our room. Breakfast was really good. The hotel was nicely decorated but an uphill walk to town center. The rooms are small but comfortable and chic. They seemed understaffed in restaurant and bar. Seagulls were off and on screaming at night.
Excelente propiedad y servicio.
Perfect stay with exceptional service and attention to detail throughout. A pleasure to stay at with phenomenal views of the river. Definitely coming back !
I didn't eant to leave. The staff is exceptional. Attention to details was appreciated. Turn down service was my favorite! I wish I had used the pool more. I will be back.
The staff in total couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. I would definitely recommend the property to others as well as returning myself.
The property and View is amazing! The staff is extremely welcoming and kind. EVERYTHING IS Fabulous. Food ,cocktails , atmosphere and of course the VIEW. We stayed in room 47 just perfect.
10/10
Great great service! This place is beautiful and ver accommodating!! I truly Enjoyed staying here. Very great hospitality and some of the best views of the city. Very easy walking distance to many restaurant and stores.
I enjoyed the fabulous breakfast that was included and i thought it was awesome it was from 730 to 11 so you dont have to get up early to ear if you rather sleep in. The spa was small but my service was enjoyable. When i arrived there was champagne waiting in my room which was great and the room service i order was yummy. I didnt care much for my room. It was the Classic room so it was small and very dark. The window didnt really brighten up the space at all. The themed artist room was disappointing as it was just one painting on the wall by the artist so not very thoughtful. One morning for breakfasts i went to the bathroom and when i came back to finish, they cleared my table and gave it to someone else. That really angered me. I left my key thetr as indication i was returning but they removed it and put it at the front counter. I thought that the view from the property was a bit limited and it gives the impression you have a grander view online. The walk from the hotel to big sites like the Dom Louis 1 bridge is 20 minutes. Next time ill definitely try to stay somewhere closer to the river. I left my jacket at the hotel and inquired about shipping it back to me and the estimate the company the hotel hired was 59 euro. It was shipped to US but i still thought that was high. I asked if they could ship as a courtesy considering i stayed there 6 nights, had spa service and frequented the restaurant twice. But no. I thought for a 5 star hotel theyd be more accomidating.
Service was impeccable from the moment we arrived, from every single person we encountered. Decor was luxe contemporary. Views
Friendly staff, smooth check in, Great views from dining area
Great service, great views and very comfortable beds. The team also arranged transfers for me and were kind enough to accommodate a few last minute requests. It’s clear they do what they can to make your stay enjoyable. Highly recommend.
Apart from the fact that the bathrooms are very dark and there are no individual nightlight controls the hotel is fantastic! Jr suite spacious - comfortable beds and fabulous views. Breakfast was a great selection and delicious. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Can’t comment on spa or gym - didn’t use. Highly recommend.
The Torel properties are all special. The staff in particular provides exceptional service and attention. I have deep brand loyalty because of the way that my family ad I have always been treated.
Amazing stay at the Torel Avantgarde! A true boutique hotel with attentive staff, incredible views, a delicious breakfast and unique and comfortable rooms! Our highlight was sitting on our deck overlooking the city of Porto and the Douro River while enjoying the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine that was brought to our room. If we go back to Porto, this is the only hotel we'll stay at.
Gorgeous boutique hotel with breathtaking views
An exquisite homely hotel
From the moment I arrived I felt welcome. I was shown around the hotel to familiarise myself which helped to make me feel at home, as did the welcome drink. The food, both dinner and breakfast, was excellent, with a wide, varied selection for breakfast. A really lovely stay
Overall this is a high standard of hotel and the staff are very keen to please and help. Sadly the rooms and the hotel processes are not Five Star. The kitchen is clearly unable at times to service the guests in a timely manner especially at breakfast and evening meals. Delays can be 10-20 minutes for a poached egg or food on the buffet to be replenished. This happened multiple times during our stay. We also booked an Executive Double Room, Balcony (Superior). The first room we were allocated was not as described in the booking. To be honest it if Pablo had not resolved this issue and allocated us a room similar to the one in the images we would have refused the booking and sorted another hotel. We consider the first rooms allocated as very sub standard. Small, dark, cramped and not in keeping with the description or a five star hotel. More a Premier Inn Hotel!! Even though the room we were allocated was acceptable as design and space it was totally impractical for people staying seven days!!. There was limited storage four clothes hangers for two adults, limited shelves. No drawers. The bedside units were boxes rather than best side drawers. Consequence was we had to request 10 hangers, had toiletries and plugs etc on most if not all surfaces. The result a very attractive room when unoccupied looks cluttered and not stylish. There was limited wall hanging for coats or places to dry towels as a result they were changed every day.
The location was not great. I had to Uber everywhere. The shower/bathroom was very compact that I felt claustrophobic Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Very friendly staff, room was cleaned and I appreciated the welcome drink and view
Fantastic hotel with friendly staff and excellent service
Nice place to relax
We enjoyed our 5 night stay at the hotel. It was stylish and our room was nicely laid out. They use WhatsApp to provide quick service and resolutions, which was very helpful. The Spa also provided good service. The location was near restaurants and good access to the historical district.
Underwhelming service on a beautiful property
I must start by saying I had high expectations after staying at Torel Palace Porto, it was an outstanding experience and I kept on referring friends to the brand because of that, after Avantgarde my perception of the brand have changed. * The good: Beautiful hotel, well designed and comfortable, located in a quiet street within walking distance of everything Porto. * The bad: The service was a let down, cold and disconnected, some examples were cold check in, there was a feeling of not being welcomed there, the staff just wasn't genuine,we notice in a few occasions staff mingling talking about work in public areas, manager calling the attention of employees in front of guests, restaurant manager made no effort to even say hi even after making eye contact multiple times, it wasn't luxury, nor boutique hotel standards. * Some annoyances that shouldn't have happened in a luxury setting: Was asked to pay a charge that was previously paid with my booking, (Bed for kid in our suite) then asked to show proof and email the proof to be showed to managers. No apologies offered. They should known this before inconveniencing the guest. Photoshoot was taken place in areas where we were having coffee and by the pool, no explanation, they just came into the areas we were using and took over the area, it was an invasion of our enjoyment, this shouldn't have happened while guests are around, or at least asked if it was ok or offered to move elsewhere. Great potential but tainted by cold service
Stay Here!!
Fantastic stay, outstanding personalized service, and highly recommend
There are better places to stay
The hotel is ok. Not conveniently located. ‘Upgraded’ to a room in the attic, that had one small window and the view was from a deck somewhat adjacent to the room. I will stay elsewhere next time.
We had an amazing stay here. The staff was lovely & the restaurant was delicious. We can’t wait to stay again!
Fabulous hotel with lovely staff who smiled and couldn't do enough to help with everything. It was a real pleasure to stay there. The food, cocteau, rooms and views were magnificent, thankyou
This is a lovely hotel with fantastic views of the river & Porto! The staff are very friendly & welcoming! We had dinner in the restaurant one evening & it was the best steak we’ve ever tasted!
Centrally located property provided a great home base for our exploring Porto!
This is a fabulous hotel with a boutique feel. The staff are friendly and attentive whilst leaving you to relax and enjoy yourselves. The views from the poor and lounging areas are fab too
Staff are really nice and introduced me the rooms and amenities. English speaking as well and easy for tourists to understand
What a fabulous hotel with friendly, helpful staff.
The hotel was superb
Excellent service from check in, to dinner, bar, and check out. Love the service that all if the staff displayed to our group.
Really great hotel. Wonderful room, comfy bed. The staff were great and we felt very much at home. Need to book for dinner at the restaurant as there are restricted tables
na
A very unique experience
Great location to walk into town or grab an Uber, and it’s on the trolly line. Impressive breakfast buffet with mimosas and cappuccinos…made to order eggs. And a nice lounge to hang out. It’s perfect for a couple. Remember it’s a boutique hotel and it’s Porto so it’s smaller than what you might get elsewhere. But worth the stay.
The staff were very friendly and courteous and made everything easy. The room was very comfortable and clean , close to everything. Great hotel to stay at.
Everything was perfect
Excellent stay in a fabulous upgraded suite.
Outstanding friendliness by the staff in all areas.
Excellent hotel and staff!
A truly five-star hotel!
Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, excellent breakfast and SPA services.
We had an amazing stay at this hotel! First of all the staff was really friendly and helpful. Also, they put in the extra effort to make our stay perfect. We booked the Coco Chanel room which has a breathtaking view over the Douro river from the bathtub and the cosy terrace. I would definitely recommend staying in this hotel for an extraordinary experience, especially because of the cool different artsy rooms with the bathtubs with a view! It is also well located (very calm in the hotel), but still very close to downtown.
Amazing hotel - great staff and room was beautiful and so comfortable. Breakfast was also great!👍
Loved our stay
Beautiful and creative interior design! Made for a happy stay!
Great concept with beautiful rooms. The immediate surroundings of the hotel were not the prettiest but a short walk bring you closer to the historic center and all of the beauty Porto has to offer.

Enjoyed our stay! Convenient and safe location. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
