My second time here. Never disappointed.
The hotel is not what we expected of. Many of the normal items were not supplied and constantly have to call the reception to get them. Food quality is bad. Overall below average hotel.
Good and pleasant service
We loved our stay and were blown away by the size of our room! The bathroom was amazing too!! Such value for money. We couldn't fault this property. The hotel is full of charm and character. We had a very late check-in and the staff were friendly and very welcoming! The room was clean, bed was comfy and we had a great view from our room. wifi was excellent! Breakfast again we were amazed, a full English! The location is perfect, walking distance to many attractions. You really are in the heart of the city! Can't recommend this hotel enough! Thank you for such a lovely stay!
the staff is lovely, everyone of them, they have one priority, making you feeling welcome, the hotel is close to everything , the room are spacious, the bar and restaurant is beautiful , top quality drinks and the food is absolutely amazing. the only down side is it can be noisy at night when bans are playing in the food court across the street. will definitely come back.
The stay was ok. We booked a room for two people and two beds and got one towel and the beds were pushed together and made as one. The elevators were so slow. Take the stairs. There was lots of military presence outside when we arrived late and the Uber driver struggled to find it. Once inside we felt fine but we weren’t sure about the safety in the area. Breakfast was just okay.
Great location in the heart of Colombo Forte and a great price compared to other hotels around.
Scots Hotel in Colombo
Nice hotel in good location
The heritage building and nicely maintained.
The staff was realy kind and helpful. Everything was clean, good breakfast and the starter is tropical fruits plat. I prefer to change my room, and they’ve done without any extera charge.
Amazibg affordability.
Amazingly affordable. Huge room. Nice brekkie
Scottish Themed Hotel
Nice hotel with friendly helpful staff in good location
It is located in a very good area, but Hotel not providing much value for tourists,
Outside lots of street dogs
Pleasant Stay!
Overall was ok! Breakfast was good, with two options to choose from daily. The staff at the bar was attentive, and the service was good.
Great personnel, convenient location, and fine service. Looking forward to our next trip. ❤️
The staff was very friendly and allowed late checkout. Quiet, clean and spacious room. Decent breakfast, but could be improved. Just meters from Ministry of Crab restaurant. Recommend this hotel
Great service, food is really good and the rooms need some updating, and every time we walked into the rooms we smelled of the cigarettes smoke but it’s in great location to access all amenities, staff is very friendly.
Very comfortable and a pleasant stay overall.
A very enjoyable stay !
Our stay at The Steuart by Citrus at Colombo is a most enjoyable one. the staff here are most helpful and responsive, basically you can ask for almost anything, and they will do their best to get it done. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient. Room is clean and spacious. I enjoyed every minute during our stay here.
It was more than expected People were really nice and welcoming
Hotel location was excellent. Front Office Manager saw that we were all well taken care of. All Staff in reception, housekeeping, concierge, restaurants very friendly, helpful and welcomin. Rooms and bathroom very spacious and clean. Food was delicious and lots of variety. Our family enjoyed our stay and will return and recommend to friends.
Awesome friendly staff, very helpful and will definitely come back again, Thank you... Tino Maioha..
est choice in Colombo
Excellent location, close to a variety of different restaurants, a very friendly hotel with excellent staff. Attention to detail was outstanding.
Overall pretty good
A good break. Spoiled in part by a room mix-up. We booked premium room, but were given standard, but no premium rooms were available to change. It was all sorted out by the evening, but we had an uncomfortable first day. After that all was fine. Staff are very friendly. Lady waiting on tables does the work of 3 people and deserves commendation. Food is pretty good, and not too pricey. Drink deals make a good time easy.
food was good, but everything else was old and dusty
Good location in Colombo
This place does what it says on the tin. Clean and comfortable and well located. Spacious rooms and bathroom. Paid extra for a room with a window, as I'd read that some are without.....but the view wasn't worth it. Good breakfast though, I'd stay here again
1) When we booked 2 rooms in this hotel, we remember that we DID NOT OPT FOR ROOMS WITHOUT WINDOWS. But we were allotted two rooms WITHOUT WINDOWS. Inspite of mentioning the same, the staff said that we had booked the rooms WITHOUT WINDOWS. That was really disappointing, We felt cheated. Fortunately, we stayed for only a day. The WINDOWLESS rooms are really claustrophobic. 2) In addition, one building construction is taking place adjacent to this hotel. Through out the day, drilling was taking place in the adjacent building and that sound carried through into our rooms. It was very disturbing.
On checkin, the guy on Reception tried to make me pay twice even though it was prepaid through expedia. No pool, but there is an overpriced bar. If you want guests to drink there, you need to make the prices and atmosphere better than the many pubs very close by. 3 beds in the room is just weird!!!!
Claimed that they did not have my booking in their computer system. Expedia sent me a confirmed booking.
Great vibe & comfort stay
Great central hotel
Amazing location & great colonial decor
Great Service Spacious rooms
Great place to stay
It was amazing with a great surrounding..
Most centrally located. Wonderful clean rooms accompanied by 'service with a smile'. Good facilities and spotlessly clean rooms. Recommended for both families and solo travellers.
Very good Hotel
Great hotel in the heart of Colombo. A thirty minute taxi drive from the airport and 5 minute walk from railway station. Staff extremely helpful and keen to enhance your stay. Breakfast was good. Evening meals were of good quality and reasonably priced. I had a standard twin which was great for me. The massive walk in shower was superb. Just bear in mind there is no outside window in this category of room. When next in Colombo I will definitely stay there again.
Really spacious room to begin with. Chose a standard double room. Do note that there is a restaurant/bar downstairs which opens till late, so beware and be prepared to hear some of the music and noise at night. Breakfast has a pretty good variety for a single day, and nothing to complain about. Would have loved to stay there longer to comment on the variety. Location is awesome! just beside the Dutch Hospital shopping district, with a Burger King at the hotel entrance, and Ministry of Crab just around the corner. ATMs will be a 5-minute walk away at most. This building has a unique architecture, and has more than a hundred year history, so it provides a really different experience compared with the newly developed Fairway Colombo just beside.
Overnight stay
Booked this hotel near to be near to station for an early morning train Huge room...almost too big. No window Probably recently decorated as masking tape around bathroom door. Musty smell. Helpful staff though
Great Location
Great location, friendly staff, well priced and comfortable room. Room service was excellent.
Large, comfortable and clean
I stayed in a Premium room for two weeks while on a recent business trip. The room was huge, clean, has a large ensuite and good work space/desk. The everything in the room worked and the air conditioning was good. The lighting is a bit dull in what is a fairly dark room. A light or lamp on the desk would have been appreciated. Be warned though, one of the main features of the Premium rooms is that they have windows to the outside world, unlike the cheaper rooms. However the noise coming from the entertainment which occurs almost nightly in Hospital Street will keep many people awake - some nights the noise went beyond midnight. There's not much the hotel can do about that - it is the price you pay for being in a great location in the middle of a tourist area with lots of restaurants and bars at your doorstep.
Good hotel in a good location
Good location
Overall, the hotel is very good. The Location of the hotel is very good. However, I gave the 3 out of 5 because the music in the outside of the hotel is very loud, if you want to go to bed by 10 pm. “Good Luck” .However, if you are enjoying the party and music at the night please stay here. Except the loud music anything else in the hotel are great.
Overall experience was good . Close to restaurants, staff friendly and helpful. The only problem was our room did not have a side window only one that looked out onto lift
Nice hotel with lots of amenities
Room was just what we needed albeit no windows. Shower, bathroom, AC all worked perfectly. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a huge variety and everything was delicious.
great city hotel, excellent location
Full Moon Poya Day celebrations was amazing Food overall in Colombo excellent and great variety.
Nice hotel with luxury surroundings
Nice hotel with luxury surroundings. Galle face , WTC , coffee shops are on walking distances. Ali
Great hotel near Colombo Fort
Modern hotel, close to railway station in Colombo Fort. Staff very helpful, good buffet breakfast and well stocked bar area with daily offers and good selection of drinks at reasonable price Short pleasant walk to Galle Face Green
Close to Galle face and some tourist trap places
Dark dreary lobby, old style large rooms with terrible lighting
Ok hotel close to Dutch Hospital complex
The rooms were okay though the entire building was quite dated. A couple of lights were not working, and the room and corridors were a bit dark. Food served was very good.
congested and no windows
congested and No windows and other services OK. I asked to extend room on the rate i booked at hotels.com(usd 50) they denied and ask for usd 100.
Great place with great atmosphere. Only negative was I was in a room with no windows and it was a bit dark.
Scotland in Sri lanka
Only stopped for 1 night good bar food was western orientated staff and service very good
Comfy rooms and close to station
Ideal stop off. Rooms were clean and beds were comfy. Lovely bathroom but no hot water at all. Close proximity to Colombo Fort Railway Station. Restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. Check in/out was smooth. Would return again
In hindsight this was a overly pricey choice for a one night stay, before train next morning. Slow check in, large room, but felt rather basic, window with no sort of worthwhile view in a supposed better room. Not the cleanest. Decent large bathroom and large good shower. Just very average, wouldn't stay again for the price.
Nice for a simple night stay
Nice for simple night stay, business trip or where sight seeing is your focus. Hotel does not have huge list of amenities like pool or gym. I'm not sure if business center exists but did not need. Some rooms are interior with NO Window to outside view...although there was a window to elevator verstibule, hallway area with big round table and kids doing homework.....I was in room 14. So yes it is cheaper room ...but just odd room with window to the corridor not the outside. Get a window room for a better experience which costs more so might as well get a better hotel. Aside from that the hotel looks and feels very swanky and posh. It has a Scottish theme that's pretty cool to look at. Restaurant has good food with prices that are average to bit overpriced. Overall not bad...with $30 - 50 cheaper rooms than other 3-4 star hotels nearby the downtown district. 3-4 kilometers south toward Galle beach = much better value with 4-5 star hotels cheaper than this one.... but of course location location location The Stuart is in central district walk distance to train station and the Dutch Hospital district with bars, cafes and restaurants all over the place. Although you can always use aTuk Tuk or Uber from galle beach hotel for about 150-200 rupees (July 2017).
Basic overnight stay
Good location, didn't eat there apart from breakfast, good sized room, clean for Srilankan standards, friendly staff, basic breakfast, flies at the restaurant as other guests have also commented, not too bad for an overnight stay
Decent hotel at Fort area, Colombo 1
I stayed in premium room on sixth floor for two days. Room was alright - big in size but illumination could have been better. Also there is always one or the other party going on till late night at adjacent Dutch hospital party area- not recommended if you are looking for a peaceful stay and intend to hit the bed early. Hotel staff is nice, helpful and courteous! Always willing to help - all of them! Breakfast was good with lot of options to choose from. Also the hotel lacks recreation facilities like pool, spa etc. Overall would rate it 3.5/5.
Nice hotel. Friendly staffs. Near beach
Excellent hotel and well managed. Rooms are very clean. There is small gym
Comfortable, quiet, and well-equipped
Really large and comfortable room, in immaculate condition, with good in-room facilities (fridge, tv, kettle, aircon, hairdryer, wi-fi) and a luxurious bathroom. It felt homely (Scottish-style) which is nice if, like us, you have been travelling for a while, but not if you want an authentic Sri Lankan hotel.
Not a bad location
Only stayed here for 1 night before flying out. Room was ok, very bland, difficult to shut the window. Noisy in the evening due to live band in the Old Hospital nearby. Bathroom is ok but with poor lighting and already looking tatty. Big step upto the bathroom and another step down into the shower area - not great if you are unsteady on you feet. It's very dark in reception and seating area - furniture is too large for the space and dark green paint on walls is depressing. Messy looking restaurant area and an ok breakfast. Staff do not look at you so difficult to order tea, etc. Nowhere pleasant to sit and read or kill time, outside space a mess with parked cars, etc. It's fine if you just need a bed for a night, but would not stay any longer. Restaurants within walking distance. Beware the rates quoted on Expedia India. These are in Indian rupees, not Sri Lankan currency. This was a surprise when checking out and room rate was double to what we thought!
Good value hotel - great location
Very nice hotel perfectly positioned for a short stay in Colombo. Its is a short walk from some great restaurants and bars as well as a short Tuk Tuk ride to the Fort railway station and other attractions. The Hotel has a Scottish colonial theme and is clean and throughout. Breakfast is good and food is available in the evening although we ate out for our two nights. Book here with confidence.
Three nights in total during stay in Sri Lanka. The only downside of initial two nights were in windowless room. Not great if claustrophobic. After that in a room with window which was fine. Staff are very pleasant, helpful and attentive Breakfast was a buffet style and perfectly acceptable. Great location in Fort area of Colombo if time is limited. Almost next to the well known Dutch Hospital and within walking distance ( if that way inclined) of markets etc.
Great ambience
Good location, clean and good ambience in hotel and clean rooms.
Central location but noisy
The hotel was OK. The staff were friendly and efficient. We had read reviews before booking that said it was noisy but thought that would not really be a problem. There is a central void running up the centre of the hotel which is a massive echo chamber. It was LOUD and you could hear every person coming and going on EVERY floor. We stayed there two nights at the start of the holiday and had a "room with a view" of the building behind. On return for one night we had a first floor room with no external window but a window onto the first floor foyer - very strange. The food was average and the accommodation less than average but it was an OK location. Would not stay there again.
Great Location with typical Sri Lankan Hospitality
From Check-in, to the room (which was huge), service and the food at the restuarant! You'll wonder why you went out anywhere else. But if you do, the area is the hub of Colombo with some of the best restaurants and nightlife around. Also for business needs, the wifi works flawlessly with a steady speed.
Business focused
The hotel is in the financial district, close to the world trade centre buildings, it is not a typical tourist hotel, there is no swimming pool for example. However it is close to the sea and port area and there are a range of restaurants in the old Dutch hospital complex nearby. The office manager Mr Mahesh Kumarasena was particulary helpful to me on two occasions make extra effort to establish the location of my next hotel and helping with a hospital apointment. I would recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a central Colombo location
Hidden gem in Colombo city centre
The hotel represents excellent value in a city of overpriced hotels. Only minor niggles - some rooms do not have an outside window, there was no drinking water in the otherwise most excellently equipped room until asked for and the 100+ decibel garage e-music in the bar/dining area was not appropriate. More sophisticated entertainment is close to hand however at the Hilton / Galadari or Kingsbury hotels. Would I stay again - most certainly.
Good place to hang your tam!
Restaurant was inexpensive with good food.
Big rooms, fantastic location, value for money!
We stayed for only one night, alas, at the Steuart and were very impressed with the spaciousness of the room and its proximity to the Colombo fort station (from where we walked to the hotel with our luggage) and the Old Dutch Hospital, which now houses some wonderful restaurants (don't miss Ikoi-tei!). The check-in was quick (although the doorman did choose to ignore us and prefer to help the rich-looking Japanese gent who got off a swanky car :-) hope the tip was good) and the wifi is free. The whole ambience is "business boutique" and the Scottish vibe can put you off, but be assured -- it is a family hotel and the large spacious clean rooms and bigger bathrooms more than make up for the startling decor/theme. Hotel has a fair bit of history too -- if you go for that kind of thing (we did). Didn't try the restaurant, but classic British pub food on the menu. In the evening, we went for a half-hour walk on the Galle Face beach and it was gorgeous. Overall, major value for money!
good value for location without a view
Delux room with no window, complained & quickly changed, BUT should have stayed in 'no window room', noise from live outdoor band at Tap Room late into the night was too much....
Good location
I was in aware that the hotel was advertised in Indian rupees in the Expedia site I don't know why. So I made a booking I thought in srilankan rupees but it was Indian and hence cost heaps more why did the site quote in Indian rupees it's very confusing The room had no windows it was like a cell
Great stay
Great stay.
Pleasing stay. Rooms were clean. Staff was good. Recommended.
Not your typical Sri Lanka hotel - but good.
Converted colonial era office building sympathetically restored with a Scottish(!) theme. Lots of dark wood and furnishing, not tropical at all. Room very large and comfortable. The area is bring gentrified and the hotel is adjacent to the excellent Dutch Hospital retail and eating development which is the landmark to give to your taxi driver otherwise they may not be familiar with the hotel by name.
Perfect location in Colombo
We loved staying at this hotel. We had a lovely big room on the 7th floor . The bathroom was also hudge. When walking out of the hotel you are very close to many restaurants and the World Trade Center. Found a great clothing shop 5 minutes from the hotel called Dilly and Carlo.
Best for its location and elegant building.
Good hotel in a great location. The staff need to improve their act though except for one front office staff,Danushe, who made up for all the rest. I would not mind staying there again.
Good location, pleasant stay, very good value
First of all, we reserved a room at this hotel because we liked its location. It does take about 10 min on foot from the train station, however, note that there are practically no hotels around the station anyway. The room was clean. The bed was nice and comfy. Clean and spacious bathroom. The room also had a TV (overseas channels available), a fridge, self-serve set for coffee/tea, an iron & an, and hair dryer available, which is standard in western countries but might not be so in developing or SE Asian countries always. We had an uncommon request, and we were very pleased that the staff responded positively to it.
Nice hotel close to fort railway station
Overall pleasant experience, I would use this hotel again. I was disappointed that the room I stayed in did not have a window, but the rest of the facilities in the room were good.
Excellent location, spacious and well maintained
We used this hotel for two nights in the last week of Dec 2015 and overall we had a very good experience staying here. The location is very good, it is located in Colombo fort area just two minutes walk from Colombo twin towers, in a place where there are plenty of dining and entertainment options. Shops/restaurants at the Dutch Hospital are next door and so is Shamrock pub. The check-in process was very smooth and the staff was very helpful and courteous throughout the stay. We stayed in deluxe room and it was very spacious. The furniture, fixtures etc. were in very good condition and we didn't face any issues. Only think that I can suggest for improvement is 'fitness center' which is very small. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will cherish the happy memory that we had staying at this hotel.
Great room but noisy
Great spacious comfortable room, but very noisy up to midnight due to bands playing in Dutch hospital precinct right outside hotel. Fine once bands stopped, but even ear plugs could not surpress the drums. Service was excellent and they had a nice bar and restaurant on the ground floor.
Great location. A premium hotel with average price. They food in the hotel were fantastic. However their buffet breakfast need improvement.
Excellent Location and very good service
It was extremely pleasant and the staff was very courteous
Amazing hotel
Loved 1 night stay here. Very spacious and luxurious room. Staff is very friendly. Limited vegetarian food items in their own restaurant, but lot of options around. Well located..close to local market..Dutch house.Wtc..as well as Galle face. Please book atleast one month in advance to get superb discounts on this excellent hotel.
Great value & great service in Colombo
The hotel was good, location fantastic and service excellent. The only problem is that its Aberdeen rooms have no windows! One needs to choose the Glasgow room when booking if one wants a window. Other than that, this hotel is ideal. I will surely stay in this hotel again if Glasgow room is available.
Nice stay, great food
Very nice stay, huge room and huge bathroom with great shower. Good wifi connection and lovely staff. There was loud live music being played both nights outside our hotel until about midnight which we did not appreciate but otherwise would recommend the hotel. The restaurant downstairs has excellent food!
Excellent hotel
Great place to stay. I always stay there. In my budget, I am getting what I expect
review of steuart by citrus
Wifi connectivity very poor.
Would recommend
Really enjoyed my stay here, I am a fussy customer when it comes to hotels, but overall I would return and recommend to friends. The food is a particular highlight, I had room service at every opportunity to sample another British dish from the menu - definitely felt like having food from home. The room is in very good condition with all mod cons such as teamaker, in room safe and iron. Service and location both decent as well.
Good setting but terrible noise, couldn't sleep
The setting is really good but the wall isn't good enough to get way from the noise outside. I like the location and the convenience but I couldn't sleep at night because it was too noisy from outside of the hotel. I like there, but I won't suggest my friends to stay there overnight unless they are deaf.
Decent Hotel, in a nice spot.
We really enjoyed the neighborhood called Dutch hospital. Great restaurants and coffee shop. The staff was helpful with everything from booking transfer to contact different places. Please just make the fitness room better. Anyways would recommend the Hotel.
We chose an Aberdeen room and there was no window which was fine for one or two nights.
New boutique hotel in Colombo - Steuarts
I was in Colombo for a business visit. I stayed at hotel stuarts, Colombo. Its a new boutique hotel with a good pub. The rooms are fine but the corridors are little cramped. The staff is very courteous and the restaurant spread is decent. Parking is an issue. A little more ventilation can be a bonus. It is situated in the heart of Colombo. Overall a good place to stay, with a decent price tag
Noisy and no windows
Nowhere in the booking process did Expedia mention that a so-called Superior Room at this hotel means HAVING NO WINDOWS. The hotel even contacted us via email to talk about how their rooms have twin beds which can be put together to make a king, and failed to mention the most important aspect of the whole thing - NO WINDOWS! You go on holiday to see things, right? But to see things from your room you need windows! I cannot believe I'm having to write this but everyone needs to be warned. In 2015 you literally have to check if your hotel room has windows now. You cannot take it as a given! And yes, when we found out we asked to pay for a room with windows but it was "fully booked." The staff moved slowly and seemed surprised that we weren't aware that the word Superior meant no windows in their world. The bedroom door made no difference to the noise level outside, thanks to an echoing atrium that funnelled sound upwards. I've stayed in Japanese rooms with paper doors that had better sound proofing. Have I mentioned the band? Yes, there was a band playing covers until late. Earplugs and pillows and aircon on and we still heard every note. English Breakfast was fine and the hotel arranged an airport transfer that was reasonably priced. It's in a good location.
Its takes about 1hr for checking in. I waited so long.
スタッフの方が非常に親切で気持ちよくよく過ごせました。施設は古いですが、昔の趣のある雰囲気がよくでていてそれが好きな人にはいいと思います。
Expensive bar. They took tip though I bringed the beer from bar myself.
alles super
There are no windows in the rooms.
Good service and helpful portier. Nice AC i room and whole hotel. But the bar charged for service even though I brought the beer from the bar and returned the glass and bottle to the bar.

Super hotel, lovely breakfast and great evening meal options. Surrounded by bars and restaurants, within walking distance of the railway station.
