Lovely stay at this property. Staff were friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to help us with an early check in, and even make restaurant reservations. Rooms were also spacious and clean.

Fantastic stay, positioned in the heart of everything, fantastic service from start to finish, will definitely stay again.

Fantastic hotel, within a small shopping mall area. Good breakfast with free take away coffee. Walkable to the metro which was super easy to use and zipped us to anywhere we needed to go quickly. The area was perfect as it was so central to the main sites, had loads of shopping near by, coffee shops moments outside the hotel as well as restaurants and shops for drnks and snacks. The room itself was great, but it's the staff who shine here. We stayed 4 nights and on our 3rd night 1t 11.30pm our room randomly filled with the smell of strong cigarette smoke. The hotel is non smoking so we can only presume a nearby guest was breaking the rules and it came the vents. We called down to reception, who sent someone up within 5 minutes with a new room for us (it was that bad!!). They helped us move all our luggage and belongings to a new room which was an upgraded room. They also sent us a cheese platter the next day and the Duty Manager called us the next afternoon to check we were ok with the new room. All way above and beyond expectation for a situation which really wasn't their fault. All in all, we would stay here if we come to Shangahi again.

Right in the downtown area of PuXi. Location is perfect! The room seems a little outdated but still very clean. Staff is very friendly and prompt. Breakfast buffet has a wide selection from Chinese to western options.

Excellent stay

This is not exactly Ritz Carlton's standard. The room is small and not well maintained. We felt the room is similar to a 3-star hotel. The breakfast is great, but we hope to have oatmeal and soft-tofu in the morning.

Super Friendly

The lady who checked us out was cold. She made me pay for my and the kids' breakfast even though we didn't go to the buffet on the 2nd morning. (The buffet staff scanned my room card on the first day, we didn't go on the 2nd day, so my room card wasn't scanned, she should have the records) When we checked in, the front desk strongly recommended the breakfast package, I said sure I will try it. We went to the buffet on the first morning. The breakfast was not good, but it was expensive compared to other hotels. They didn't tell me that I had to call and cancel the breakfast if I didn’t want it on the second day. The other hotels I have stayed only charge if we went to the breakfast. I am very disappointed.

I have stayed at the Portman hotel regularly on business trip to Shanghai. It is a great hotel with large room. Good breakfast and excellent pool and gym. Well located for downtown Shanghai.

Portman is at a stone throw from the most intriguing life of Shanghai . It’s very walkable if you want to explore Shanghai and there are so many options for shopping and dining from luxury to affordable, from international brands to local boutique. Staff at Portman are so nice and they go out of their way to make everyone feel at home.

Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Location was great for shopping and access to subway. Highly recommend club lounge.

I stayed in this Ritz many times since 2017. The property is a little bit old right now. It feels like there hasn't been any renovation since 2017. They need to spend more in CAPEX to maintain the building. The service is as good as before. Lounge food and coffee are average.

Good location

It was great. The staff were kind and helpful, the area is convenient (next to multiple shopping malls and subway stations) and the rooms were very modern and clean.

Wonderful hotel in the major shopping areas of Shanghai

The Ritz are consistently great hotels. The suite we had was extremely clean and comfortable. The hotel is basically spotless inside and out. The bar lounge is elegant and well staffed. Breakfast and lunch buffets are out of this world in terms of variety service and cleanliness. We enjoyed the service and food daily with no regrets. Our advice might be to download a taxi app to help get a cab to return at night because they all work that way now. Great hotel. Classy staff and management. Everyone knows their part and performs to perfection. Stay here.

Property condition is really old!

Great service! I really enjoyed my business trip there. The staff are very nice. The doorman named Mike was extremely helpful. He ordered a cab for me using his own points to put me to the front of the queue because I was running late for my flight. I was really grateful.it was a very enjoyable stay and I highly recommend it.

Jing An area is beautiful!

My wife and i stay every several months, and we love to return to the Jing An area. Breakfast is a great finish!

This hotel is excellent. I will give it 10/10. The staff made a lot of effort to ensure you feel at home. They will always check on you to ensure everything is ok. A lot of them can communicate in English which makes it easier for foreigners who cannot communicate in Mandarin. There is an excellent gym and the breakfast has a lot of choices with great taste. Locations is great with many amenities nearby. There is a supermarket and plenty of restaurants to choose from just outside the hotel.

Good experience

I had a lovely experience there. I stayed on the club floor where the club service was great. The location was fabulous. The decor of the rooms are a little dated but in perfect condition and very comfortable. By china standards the hotel is a tad old but they have maintained it beautifully. Given the location and service I highly recommend it

We’ve been there as a couple and we wanted to spend a Magic night in Shanghai, but the experience was way below pair expectations. It doesn’t seem to be at Ritz, service and people are very cold and not supportive. The hotel is comparable to any standard hotel 4 stars that you can find in Shanghai.

The hotel was centrally located and convenient for taking public transportation or walking. The hotel should be more updated or remodeled. The hotel room we had was somewhat small.

Located in the heart of Shanghai’s Nanjing Road shopping district, the Portman Ritz Carlton delivers luxury at a great value. Located in a complex of apartments, stores of all kinds and next to a Starbucks, everything one needs is within a block. The staff offered superlative service and the room was exquisite. Highly recommend!

Worst Ritz ever stayed in!

Located in a convenient location. You have everything you need in the surrounding area. 10-15 mins walk to a subway station. We made a request of cancelling our trip 2 weeks prior to our stay, hotel wasn’t able to accommodate . The Whole communication back and forth was beyond frustrating! We had to change our plan last minute. Hotel did make the effort upon our arrival (fruit basket and decorated the room). However, we are still Disappointed with their hospitality for a world class 5 star hotel. In terms of room condition and amenities, it doesn’t live up to a 5 start Marriot brand at all. Everything is outdated, carpet has bad odour and stains all over. TV is like 90’s. Limited channel and low picture quality . Hardly call it enjoyable! Overall, we weren’t impressed with the hotel at all. Not worthy the Ritz brand or star rating! Stay away !

There was no electric outlet in bathroom for my 110v hair flat iron. I had to plug in at desk by the window where there was no mirror to look when I do my hair. very frustrated about this. all outlet in bathroom were for razor only.

Avoid unless you want an outdated and dirty room

Not worthy of the price or star rating, room was dirty when we checked in, moldy smell, carpets had a lot of stains on them, so we asked for different room, we upgrade to a better room but jt was the same, the room smelled like an urinal, so we ask for a different, the hotel offered the upgrade for free, but we haf to change to another room because of the smell, finally the third try was okay, the room was same as the others but less stains and less odor, the service person said all of the rooms are in similar condition, i tried to shorten my stay but hotel.com cs couldnt get in touch with the hotel, so i was stuck there for the two nights, must avoid

The atmosphere, staffs, from house keeping to front desk and concierge, everyone was above and beyond wonderful. It wasn’t just the service and the hotel itself, the characteristic and management of the hotel definitely did a marvelous job on maintaining the environment and quality of professionalism. I very much enjoy my stay at The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai and will continue be a loyal customer at my stay in Shanghai during my business trip.

Convenient location, suitable price and close to everything.

The level of spoken English is poor for an international hotel. I called down for help with my luggage and the receptionist did not understand me. She sent a tiny woman who seemed in her late 50s early 60s to help me. I then called again and got a proper bell hop.

It's OK.

It's OK. The rooms are more what you would expect from a 4-star. The star rating has really lost its meaning. Or maybe the brand 'Ritz-Carlton' has lost its meaning. You won't walk into your room and say 'WOW, I've arrived'. You'll walk in and say 'Oh, OK'. I have no complaints. It's a nice 4-star hotel, but not a 5-star.

The room is not small but quite old

I like this area and convenience! Good services, but hotel facilities are not good enough. The floor of the room is very uneven.

Rooms are in need of major facelift. Very dated. Spa was non operational and pool needed a new look for the name it carries. Entire Hotel needs a major remodel being under RC name.

The outstanding concierge

Our stay was incredible- from start to end the staff was lovely and the hotel is in a great location and great amenities. Particularly the visit was made exceptional by William (concierge) who helped us to not only arranged to help make our stay nicer but was mindful of the individual needs of everyone staying there- booking cars, negotiating prices with airlines and translating to a variety of organizations during our stay. He was a strong problem solver and was not simply answering the questions, but anticipated issues and was a great problem solver. In our opinion, William went above and beyond his role.

It’s too old and lack of maintenance. The show head and handle were broken twice during my 12 day stay.

Disappointing arrival and departure

No porter to pick up the luggage upon my arrival. Concierge takes a long time to get my luggage when I was already late for a return flight. The concierge was also unable to check which airport terminal I should be heading for when I told them that I am leaving via Singapore Airlines from Pudong. These are very basic information which a hotel concierge should have on their fingertips.

This is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic part of one of the best cities in the world. My husband and I stayed for a staycation to celebrate his birthday and were impressed from the moment we arrived. The check in staff kindly gave us early check in without hesitation, gave us a room on the 44th floor and delivered a lovely mini birthday treat to help us celebrate. All staff were extremely friendly at all times. The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. The only thing we disliked (and this is really picking at tiny details) was that to the left of our room was a huge wall sticking out which obstructed our view and brought some darkness in the room. Other than that though, the room was perfect. Breakfast was also nice and had a varied selection. The area around the hotel has excellent restaurants to choose from for all meals.

Positive and pleasant experience

Staff were all very helpful all around the property from check in to check out. Very quick to help with anything you needed. Professional and service oriented. Room service food was great. Housekeeping kept the room very clean and thoughtful. My attendant Joe left a towel in the shape of a dog with a thoughtful note.

Stayed in Shanghai for a few nights of vacation. The hotel was nice and the staff were very helpful. The location was close to lots of shopping and the subway which gave easy access to the bund. It was very hard to find the hotel for the first time because it is tucked inside the Shanghai center. They could use some more signage around the building.

Best hotel for staying in Shanghai

Great hotel. It's one of the high scale hotels in Shanghai, no doubt. Service is wonderful. I even got a small towel animal and Chinese knots the maid made. Great breakfast! Best location for people who don't know Shanghai. There are different kinds of restaurants around the hotel. Jingan temple is walking distance. If you like walk, Nanjing walking road is about 2 km away. Highly recommended.
