Fantastic hosts and great accommodation.

Had a most enjoyable stay at The Old Cottage with wonderful hosts Karen and Darren. Really comfy double bed & great shower. Had the benefit of a gorgeous roaring fire in spacious lounge area at night with lots of DVDs and a library of books about stuff to explore in the local area. Darren and Karen were such lovely people, warm , friendly and gave helpful tips about the locality. Breakfast was fabulous, tasty and varied. Would highly recommend this B&B and will definitely be back. Many thanks to Darren and Karen for an amazing break.

Nice size rooms and bath. Breast was 5 start. The host were available to meet any need. Extensive knowledge of the entire surrounding area. Highly recommend.

Peaceful, comfortable, friendly

Amazing breakfasts from very friendly owners Darren and Karen. Very knowledgeable and informative about the local area . Well kept and clean accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble

This is an excellent b&b in the country with views across the loch. Darren and Karen are very fine and friendly hosts. I am very happy to recommend if you want a rural stay about 30 minutes drive from Oban.

Quiet place on the ocean. Initially finding the location was tricky. Only one for option for dinner is the hotel next door. (Pretty good food) other options are 30 minutes away in Oban

Unforgettable!

What a lovely place to stay! Darren and Karen are marvellous hosts, couldn't do enough to make our visit truly memorable. And the breakfasts were delicious, as well as superbly served. The view over the bay, and the local wildlife enjoying their breakfasts outside the window, added an extra charm ... Coupled to a superb restaurant at the hotel next door, not to mention the magnificent scenery and history of the area, we couldn't have found a more ideal place for a short holiday.

Wonderful greeting and welcoming from Darren and Karen. Perfect instructions, their local knowledge and enthusiasm and love for the area is limitless. The accommodation is superb, location is very central to some of the most historical and beautiful, silent areas.The choice of breakfast? ..I guarantee you wouldn’t get the choice of cereals, jam’s etc anywhere else.. (Karen puts other ‘full’ breakfasts to shame..). We will visit the west of Scotland again and unquestionably The Old Cottage will be on our stopover menu.

Breakfast was good. Comfortable room. Glad it was close to Melford Hotel where I had an excellent dinner.

Perfection

Wonderful stay. Perfect location next to Arduaine gardens and Melfort hotel. Our room was beautiful, peaceful and so comfortable. Darren and Karen are the perfect hosts. Excellent breakfast and facilities. Cannot recommend highly enough.

A jewel in the highlands

You haven't traveled until you've stayed at a Bed & Breakfast in the countryside. Our hosts have done an immaculate job with their property. The room felt almost too perfect to use! Wonderful breakfast, beautiful library and sitting area at the centre of the house. Great attention to detail throughout. Walking distance to a good quality dinner restaurant and bar. Gardens and the sea also a short stroll away. All in all a memorable part of our vacation.

Old Cottage Arduaine

Beautifully and tastefully renovated cottage. Karen and Derek most welcoming and supportive hosts. Great room, lots of space.

Incredible value. The breathtaking views, beach access, & seclusion help create a stunning retreat, but Karen & Darren’s thoughtful touches separate this stay from all others. This was by far our favorite place to stay during our trip in Scotland!

Friendly hosts full of useful information about places to visit, pamphlets books etc. Right near to beach, saw red squirrel and rabbits outside while having breakfast. Lovely scrambled eggs and husband thoroughly enjoyed his fry up. Local unusual jams to try as well. Very comfortable. Introduced us to other guests which was a lovely touch.

Wonderful stay, wish we could have stayed longer. Darren and Karen were such excellent hosts, it felt like we were visiting friends. Every little detail was thought of and their knowledge of local places was outstanding. Breakfast was excellent and the surrounding area was fabulous with Oban only a 30 minute drive.

Highly Recommended

Where do we start! Idyllic location, lovely warm welcome, room v.clean & comfortable with ensuite and excellent views. Breakfasts were Top Class and very accommodating when we had a very early start one morning. Darren had a wealth of knowledge about places to see & best routes to take and where to see the wildlife. Also willing to lend us guides/books with us.

The hosts are very welcoming and attentive and were happy to assist with dietary requirement and any questions we had. A very lovely stay here in a beautiful room, with access to a very comfortable lounge. I would highly recommend.

Karren and Darren were very very welcoming and attentive to all our needs. The cottage is charming beautiful and spotlessly clean. Parking was right outside the property, which was great as it was raining on arrival. They are very informative of the area and also have books maps and information on the area, for all activities. We were on the Argyll coastal road trip and stayed in eight Bed and breakfast establishments in all. Without doubt this was one of the best. The breakfast was also outstanding, all locally sourced ingredients, the apple and cider sausage was a stand out for me. Would definitely come and stay here again.

You can not ask for more from a bed and breakfast and if i would ask for perfection that would be it. Their hospitality and quality of the place cannot be described in words. Would recommend and go again

Lovely place to stay, the surrounding grounds are great, the gardens are next door and the grounds of the Melfort hotel. The hosts Darren and Karen were so helpful during our stay. The room was excellent and clean, would recommend as an overnight stop or a place to use as a base when exploring the area

A great mini break

Karen and Darren are amazing hosts. Very attentive. Very knowledgeable about the area and like to share their knowledge. They offer you the possibility of consulting a vast array of guides and maps, books in the comfort of their sitting room or your room. Very good breakfast using also local produce. Comfortable bed (Islay room) and great walking shower. Will certainly recommend it.

Fabulous position with great hosts.

We enjoyed our stay in the Old Cottage, where had a very warm welcome from Darren and Karen. We were delighted with our room, the 'Jura' - it was particularly spacious and we enjoyed sitting at the bay window to watch the rabbits and red squirrels right outside. The bathroom was large and well appointed. We particularly enjoyed an excellent home cooked breakfast. Highly recommended.

A little treasure

Wonderful stay. The owners couldn’t do more to make their home feel welcoming. Beautiful location, gorgeous views, comfy bed, clean and spacious room and en-suite, great water pressure in the shower, delicious breakfast. Handy location, walking distance of 2 mins to Melfort Hotel where we had a tasty dinner with spectacular views and great service. All in all a relaxing stay, wish we could have stayed longer, hope to visit again!

We could ask for little more!

We had problem finding the place at first, relying too much on directions given by strangers! We had been told not to rely on the postcode in a satnav but asked for verbal help too soon. Once we were close enough we saw signs by the lane that made sense of the printed directions. The Old Cottage is in a good quiet spot off the beaten track. The hosts were welcoming and Darren was full of useful information to help our holiday go well. We felt very comfortable the whole time. The only issue during the stay was the shaver point not working, which Darren got around with a plug adapter. The breakfast choices were good and the cooked meal very enjoyable. The decor throughout the building was to a high standard with no obvious signs of wear and tear. We could ask for little more and would have stayed longer than the 4 nights' reserved, had we not booked accommodation at a second destination.

Beautiful spot and great hosts

The location of the cottage is superb; with a beautiful view on the loch; next to the Melfort Hotel that has a bar and restaurant and next to a wonderful botanical garden. The hosts (Darren & Linda) are so nice and attentive that we wished we had more time to spend at the Old Cottage.

We absolutely loved our room in the Old school House. What a lovely, comfortable stay. We felt welcome and warm. The food was delicious, the decor was gorgeous - I would highly recommend this place : )

Fantastic charming and welcoming B&B

Fantastic B&B with lovely hosts, great breakfast and charming, quiet and comfortable room with big in-room bathroom with shower and bathtub. The hosts were amazing, welcoming and attentive. The room was beautiful and relaxing. Walking distance there is a hotel with bistro and restaurant that is really convenient for dinner (and good food too), and the beautiful Arduane Gardens are just behind the B&B. We would go there again without a doubt.

Paradise

Fantastic time, cottage was beautiful as were the views and so much wildlife, Karen and Darren were strangers when we arrived but dear friends when we left, perfect hosts. Room was perfect, shower fab, breakfasts delicious and the hotel is a 2 minute walk away which also serves delicious food. Will definitely be back.

The view is amazing, just like it was on the web site. The people are wonderful kind and will help with all your needs. The food was great also. We will be back to this one again.

We had the most incredible stay at Darren and Karen's charming cottage in Scotland. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The cottage itself is a true gem, with its picturesque surroundings and cozy interior. It's evident that Darren and Karen have put a lot of love and care into every aspect of the cottage. The attention to detail is impeccable, from the well-equipped kitchen to the comfortable beds and tasteful decor. The location is simply breathtaking, nestled amidst the stunning Scottish countryside. We enjoyed long walks in nature, taking in the beauty of the landscape, and exploring nearby attractions recommended by Darren and Karen. Furthermore, Darren and Karen were exceptional hosts, always available to assist us with anything we needed. Their local knowledge and recommendations made our trip even more memorable. We cannot recommend Darren and Karen's cottage enough. It's a true oasis of tranquility and a perfect retreat for anyone seeking a relaxing and unforgettable escape.
