A couple of maintenance bits to sort out (had a door handle loose on the bathroom) but aside of that a great value for money place. A special shout out to Paulo on reception who was incredibly helpful and gave us suggestions and helped with the luggage on our last day. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Ideally located for the highlights of the city. Blackout blinds in the room and super silent aircon was a real bonus!

Very welcoming receptionist, friendly and informative. Closed to different tourists areas, restaurants and Bilbao market.

Overall the Gate was nice. Excellent walkable location. The rooms are basic and small but that was expected. One complaint is the bathroom lighting is horrible, could hardly tell the lights were on. The room had everything we needed.

We knew the hotel was going to be “minimalist”. It was amazing!!! Definitely recommend. It was clean, staff was very friendly, and it was in a great location. Will stay here again when we come back!

The hotel is centrally and conveniently located whilst not being loud at all in the evening. Would definitely recommend getting a room with a terrace. We really enjoyed ours and definitely appreciated the spacious terrace which was great in the summer. The staff were very kind and polite too.

Located close to all attractions, shopping and restaurants. We stayed 3 nights in a balcony room, clean, comfortable, smallish but adequate. Staff very helpful and friendly, thank you.

Excellent value for money

Clean, simple, centrally located, excellent value for money.

Clean room with enough of space for me. Toiletries available. Comfy bed. Breakfast was available and it was cheaper than it outside. But I hadn’t tried it.

Jail cell stay

Rooms felt like a jail cell and the elevators can be tricky with the weight control; hopefully these can be fixed in due time but rooms needed fresh paint and floors felt like jail corridors

Good place close to lots of attractions.

Nice clean and great location. Room space is just nice for 2 with luggage but could use a bit more lights in the room. Would stay stay again if visit Porto and would recommend to friends.

Excellent location! The manager was helpful and informative. He made a point of speaking to us daily at breakfast and offer directions, history and answer any questions that we may of had.

Great location and new property. 5-10 min walk from most of the popular sites in Porto. The rooms are spacious and have lots of storage space for luggages and bags. We got a room facing the main street so it was a bit loud at night with all the night life. Having said that, it was perfect for our stay in Porto.

Awful in every way. I use Hotels.com at least 25 days a year and this is without doubt the worst rudest dirtiest hotel I ever stayed in

Happiness at the Gate

This was a 10 out of 10. Absolutely no issues. The hotel was clean. Actually spotless. The staff was friendly and helpful and very accommodating.

From the outside we were a bit put off by the approach and the inside is a decidedly modern concept however very clean room, comfortable bed and excellent breakfast available

We enjoyed our stay at the gate. Great location on everything.

The staff was very friendly and helpful! Always a welcome greeting with a smile, which does not happen very often.

Relatively modern property in a great location that’s close to main shopping belt, market n POIs and train station. The open air balcony is a great feature. Cleaning staff were more aloof and one issue was we had to re register our room card twice to enter our rooms again. Otherwise a splendid stay.

Very nice hotel with fantastic staff. The manager made a point of speaking with me and offering suggestions multiple times. Even when I ran into him heading to lunch just outside the Hotel. When I return to Porto. I will definitely stay at The Gate

The hotel was difficult to get in to. The receptionist greeting us was unfriendly. The rooms were small and the corridors soulless. I found the rooms noisy with the lift going up and down. They offered to change the room then said no. However the room was changed but still noisy with lift and people showering. Pluses Good location, some nice staff, little veranda to sit in and people watch. I would not go back.

Location is perfect and everything you’d expect from a 3 star hotel in regards to the facilities the rooms won’t blow you away but the AC worked and the bed was comfy and a new bathroom with a nice shower. The terrace balcony was a lovely touch and The staff were amazing and went the extra mile to show us where to go and help us understand the good spots of the city!

Great hotel - close to historic Porto

The Gate is within walking distance of most of the major sights of Porto. The staff are helpful, the breakfast is great and the building was secure. Our room was modern and well laid out. The shelving unit was a nice bonus allowing ample space to tuck things out of the way. If you are planning a visit to Porto, you’ll love staying at The Gate.

Great central location for all sites and activities in Porto. Rooms were clean, quiet and spacious. Nice breakfast. Extremely helpful front desk staff!

Great Hotel

This room was clean, quiet, and just what I needed for the night. The location is perfect and central to all things in Porto.

Perfect stay in Porto

The Gate is perfectly located about a 5 minute walk from the Sao Bento train and metro stations. There isn't too much of a hill to climb either. It is about the same distance to the main pedestrian shopping area of Rua de Santa Catarina. Check-in was easy and they provide keycards for your room that also grant entry to the main hotel door. This means that you can go straight to your room without interacting with anyone on the way. There is a small elevator that can accommodate a few people at a time. I was in a spacious room with a queen bed that faced the street. There was a juliet balcony that could be accessed. The only downside was the occasional street noise as people made their way back from a night out. The bed was firm, yet I still slept well each night. They also provided an electric kettle, tea, and a couple small bottles of water. The bathroom was quite roomy and the shower was large. It was a rain-head shower and the water pressure was great. I ran into the cleaning staff a couple of mornings and they were sure to check with me about not wanting any service in the room as I left. Everyone I came across was pleasant and welcoming. I am DEFINITELY staying here again on my next trip to Porto.

We are a well-traveled couple and this was our first trip to Porto. - Location is fabulous, we could take bathroom breaks in the middle of day walking between places! (3-min walk from Sao Bento train station; 8-min walk from mall Catarina/ walking street; 15-min walk to the waterfront area!) - Staff were so friendly esp. the kitchen staff! The ladies were lovely and prepared Christmas Portuguese desserts for guests. They made our stay even better. - Room is very clean with a rack that saves a lot of space. Bathroom a bit dark but water pressure is good. - Breakfast is healthy and nice, definitely good value for the money. We arrived a couple mins late for breakfast one morning but staff allowed us to enjoy the meal anyway. We were overwhelmed in a great way by their thoughtfulness. Thank you The Gate, it made our first trip to Porto even more memorable.

The general ambience was very nice and the staff incredibly helpful. The room was decent but there were a few unfinished or deffcient aspects to the maintenance - the shower did not drain properly and the bathroom door did not close. Otherwise very nice place and fantastic location.

Great location. Helpful staff. Gorgeous room. We booked a room with a terrace. It was amazing. Nothing like having a glass of wine, overlooking old Porto, on your own private terrace. This is a really nice hotel/guesthouse that includes a lovely breakfast. I would return here in a heart beat.

Nice breakfast, continental breakfast with great and fresh choices and frequent replenishment. Nice room, simple design with a soft Double bed. Lovely if a little fridge to be equipped in the room.

Comodo e molto vicino alle principali attrazioni, pulito e con personale gentile ed accogliente. Purtroppo la nostra camera era vicino all'ascensore e di seguiva il rumore di ogni partenza, fastidioso durante le notte. Le zanzariere sarebbero necessarie.
