Short stay
Great place for us as a place to sleep. We wanted to be near Fountains Abbey. The breakfast was amazing, we didn't eat on an evening so don't know about that. The building needs a little TLC, the door to our veranda was difficult to lock, the stairwell smelt a little fusty and there are no plug sockets near the bed. The bed was comfy though and the room basic but acceptable. Overall, a nice stay.
Really comfortable room excellent meals, good shower quiet
Very quiet comfy room good location for Ripon and Harrogate.
Excellent food & service in a cosy village pub. Rooms very nicely fitted out.
Excellent place to stay
Had a fantastic stay a family run hotel and I rate it as top notch. Food excellent service excellent and very friendly. We can’t wait to go back again. Our thanks to them all.
Our stay at the Chequers
Disappointing. The bathroom fittings needed some attention. Sink basin stopper did not work. Toilet seat loose. Light switch chain broken. Light bulb out and a hole in one of the hand towels. The hotel Wi-Fi did not work in our room. Our mobile phones registered ‘no service’ in our room. No white sugar or decaf coffee supplied to our room. Overall staff were very friendly and polite.
Excellent hotel and restaurant. A few miles outside Harrogate so is very quiet. Had west-facing room with small balcony which is great on a sunny day. Staff were very friendly and the food excellent. Good range of options at reasonable prices. Would happily stay there again
Very nice hotel
We arrived on a very windy afternoon. It was easy to find. Super helpful staff. Room was beautiful. All facilities excellent. Just rocked up for dinner with an extra guest. Food amazing and super quick service even though it was filling up with guests. Breakfast was delightful with so many 5* choices. Every member of staff greeted you with a warm friendly smile. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend The Chequers in Bishop Thornton.
Room good but very small
Very welcoming and pleasant staff. Comfortable room. Excellent breakfast and evening meals.
A beautiful stay
What a little gem in North Yorkshire! We stayed overnight for my birthday and honestly couldn’t fault it Beautiful breakfast and meal in the restaurant Friendly staff, spotless rooms and public areas and a lovely spot Would highly reccomend and we will definitely be back
Will be going back
Overall, a great place. Slightly unusual setup, it’s almost like an American motel, but encompassing a British country pub. Food was well priced and good quality
Great location to visit Fountains Abbey, quiet. We really liked having a balcony especially as it was hit. Good choice for breakfast & very reasonable for evening meal. The room was really quite small & the mattress was very soft so didn’t sleep too good.
I made a last minute booking at this hotel for1 night and it exceeded all expectations , our room was decorated so nice and modern with a balcony which we enjoyed on the morning . The location was lovely and quiet and breakfast was really yummy with good vegetarian options . We will definitely be returning for a longer stay next time
Excellent value for money. Comfortable stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here for an overnight stop. The room we stayed in was ground floor and although fairly basic was so comfortable and had everything we required. Tea and coffee tray. Complimentary toiletries. Comfortable beds. Lovely bed linen and towels. Shower over bath was great. Small table and chairs outside each room so we enjoyed the evening sunshine. We were lucky enough to arrive on a Wednesday.. steak night. The steaks we had were amazing. Staff were friendly and efficient. Value for money for room and food was excellent. Car parking no problem. We had a great sleep. What more to say? We'll be back if need a room in this area any time. Thank you...
The hotel was great and very friendly in a nice area which was very quiet, but easy accesible to the local towns.
Found by a lucky shot and would definitely stay here again
Great place to stay.
Beautiful room with lovely furnishings. Friendly helpful staff. Perfect setting for exploring this area. Accessible for those with limited mobility too. Only dropped a couple of points - one on cleanliness because I found a bottle cap from a previous occupant by the side of the bed, and one for comfort because the bed bases are creaky and disturbed my sleep a little. Other than that everything else was spot on.
Working Team attended and asked us to book again when they are in the area. They particularly enjoyed the breakfast
Worth a visit
Really welcoming staff, all prepared for arrival, room clean, with room facilities to meet my needs.
Excellent place a little gem
Friendly helpful staff. Superb carvery and top notch breakfast. Clean and warm rooms with a nice bath.
Happy with stay
Stayed here for 2 nights for work. Overall was happy with the stay. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are above the bar/ restaurant and are like chalets. Generally clean, tidy, warm and well presented. Bed was really comfy. Only down side was the room was a bit dusty in places. I dropped something under the bed when i looked underneath I found a sock (not mine), tin foil and a bottle of aftershave. Clearly not been cleaned in a while. However, i would reocmmend and would stay again
The food at the Chequers was excellent. We had a great meal in the bar in the evening and breakfast was top class. The room was very comfortable but we found the tv small and difficult to view from the bed near the window. There was plenty of parking and we were able to park right outside our room which was on the ground floor. There was a nice sheltered little are to sit outside the room. It was very convenient for Harrogate and Fountains Abbey which is just up the road and well worth a visit. Check in was quick and easy though we weren’t given any information about breakfast and WiFi etc and there was nothing in the room so had to go back and find out more after we had checked in - worth asking when you check in. We would recommend though - especially for the food!
Lovely stay
We had such a lovely relaxing stay. The staff/ owners we very friendly. We will be returning. Bar and restaurant had everything we needed.
Great place to stay if visiting area
Great place to stay. Quiet location and beautiful views. Lovely hotel. Rooms comfortable and cosy. Staff very friendly and food excellent. Easy to get to places of interest within a few miles.
Very clean rooms great food
The views were gorgeous the wildlife, the rooms were stunning, staff attentable, breakfast was lovely. Only issue was the inconsiderate people staying next door in number 9 blaring music as soon as they arrived with lots of people shouting, then when they got back around 3 am music blaring again and many people shouting and singing over each other this woke us up, therefore we could not sleep.
Steak Night Wednesday
Over night stay for work, very friendly and food was superb, steak night Wednesday and can say one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time
Great stay
Harry was exceptional front of house, from arriving to departing Harry could not do enough for us.
Just a brief one night but really enjoyed our supper in the Inn. Our room was lovely, very clean and we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was really good too
Friendly staff, excellent food and comfortable room. It was the coldest day of the year but our room was toasty warm. Food, especially the steak & ale pie was delicious and really good value for money. We'll definitely be back
Lovely well equipped cosy room and the staff were helpful and friendly
Lovely service in the bar last night, nice meal Clean rooms. Have stayed few times before, always good.
Wonderful stay
Perfect for a comfortable, friendly overnight stay. Food was delicious and the service From check in to the table service was excellent. We would choose to stay again when in the area
Beautiful place.
Very nice place in a lovely part of the world. Good food, good drink, good service. Will book again.
Outstanding
Outstanding accommodation, outstanding location - well away from ambient city noise, outstanding food, outstanding staff. And a mighty outstanding pint of Wainwright's too. Been coming here fairly regularly for a few years now for our weekend breaks. Can't speak highly enough about all af the above. Well done to all of the staff that have made our stay here so wonderful, every time. Bless your kind hearts all of you. You clearly care about your work and your professionalism shines through. I think that covers it, see you in October.
Lovely hotel
Lovely hotel with personal touch; very clean in room and public spaces. Excellent food as well. Great base for visiting Yorkshire, with Fountains Abbey very close.
Would recommend…
Great service, friendly staff, excellent food. We had our breakfast and evening meals at the Inn, always a well organised, friendly team of staff on duty. Breakfast and evening meals delicious. We would definitely stay here again.
Wedding visit to Grantley Hall
Really nice stay , staff and food lovely
Spacious room, good meals, plenty of parking, nice people. Room next door to plant room with disturbing sound transmitting through wall.
Enjoyable Stay At The Chequers Inn
Great hotel in a beautiful location! Lovely Welcoming Staff and a good breakfast.
The property was dated and needs a upgrade asap. The mattress was very worn
An amazing place to stay
We stayed for 2 nights. The room was very comfortable. We ate twice here and the food was delicious. The staff were amazing, very hospitable, nothing was too much trouble. If we visit this area again, we would have no hesitation in returning. Thank you for a lovely stay.
good
room was a bit small but everything else was good
Value for money
Great value for money. Lovely location. Nice food.
Great stay
Great little hotel, superb service at a reasonable price. Can’t ask for much more would definitely return
The staff were amazing. Made us feel welcome & a great personalised service from Megan ( what a non stop worker) Definitely will return. Just a thought - would a grab rail on the shower wall be useful?
Great stay
Absolutely lovely people so welcoming the room was clean and perfect for us to visit Yorkshire the food was delicious and a great price
Hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of town
A definite place to visit.
We visited the Chequers Inn some years ago and loved everything about our stay.we always said we would go back again. We have just returned from a 2 night stay, The Chequers Inn looked almost the same but it now has a outside beer garden. The accommodation has been refurbished to a high standard spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The food was as great as we remembered it, in a very comfortable restaurant with very friendly staff. We will definitely be going again in the near future.
No complaints but be aware checkout time is 10:30 not 11:00 like Expedia says - if you are going only for the fountains abbey parkrun then its not really suitable if you plan to return, shower and leave same morning - but its a nice hotel and Id recomend it, my room had a private outside area which I reckon would be great in summer time :)
Room was clean, bed was comfortable, it was nice and peaceful & we slept well Fish and chips were very nice and breakfast very good, will return if in the area again
Lots to love - nice room, great breakfast, free parking, kettle with lots of tea bags etc. But the mattress was sagging - I was actually sleeping on an incline - which on the first two nights was okay actually but on the third was just really uncomfortable and the heater in the bathroom was broken - so the en suite was very cold to use.
Short break
Stayed for one night, room warm and cosy. Dinner and breakfast both excellent. Great staff
Chequers review
Nice hotel. Good food. Pleasant stay.
Lovely family run business with great food and warm and welcoming room , very quiet but that suited us.Think it must be stunning in the summer.
Excellent service and excellent staff. Food was delicious and very reasonable. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and staff were so welcoming and friendly
Thank you for being so nice
Really welcoming and friendly. We booked this hotel based on the reviews and it really did not disappoint.
We had a couple of nights stay at The Chequers Inn. We were treated so well by everyone….came in late the first night and they kept the kitchen open to feed us! Everyone was so helpful and friendly…especially Megan!
Comfortable, friendly, relaxing
Quiet, comfortable room. Good food. Friendly & helpful staff. Ample off-road parking. A verandah for every room.
Lovely Country Hotel
Very friendly service. Room had a small balcony that caught the sun in the afternoon. Attending a wedding close by so four couples stayed and all enjoyed
Top marks
Our stay at the Chequers was very enjoyable . The room was clean and comfortable, staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Lovely accommodation in a chalet style room. With outside sitting area. The food in the restaurant excellent
I have often been to the Chequers for there wonderful Sunday Cavery but this is the first time I have stayed here. I had a single room, which contained all I needed and was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The evening meal was really good, this meal was one of the very few that my Girlfriend said she would return for! Excellent experience.
Excellent
We had a excellent stay the staff were so friendly and helpfull espically Douglas the apprentice chef we will definitely go back
Rooms ok for one person. Lovely balcony not that it was used with it being so cold. Furniture very dated and would be useful to have a desk and chair to work at. Toilet very close to the radiator and burnt my legs a couple of times. Very quiet but could do with updating. Food was good on the evening and very quick to serve. Breakfast was ok, not much choice available for someone who doesn’t want cooked breakfast. I would say it was ok for one night but wouldn’t stay any longer
The room was ok although the Bath panel broken, food in the pub was ok although the desserts not so good, apple pie was not at its best
Great find
Clean and tidy room Very friendly staff. Lovely bar area and very nice breakfast
Birthday break
Absolutely great break with my wife and freinds. A family run business with staff that were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were comfortable and very warm despite the weather conditions. Will definitely recommend to family and friends and retun in rhe future
breakaway in yorkshire
Stayed at the Chequers Inn twice now, ideal location for visiting Harrogate and surrounding areas. The staff make you feel very welcome, ate in their restaurant, a good varied menu, food was excellent. We have booked to stay again, thoroughly recommend to visit
Lovely quiet break away
Me and my husband had a wonderful stay at The Chequers inn. It's a short drive to Harrogate centre. Really quiet location, lovely on site pub and restaurant. Not great for phone signal but that wasn't an issue for is. We would definitely recommend.
Ideal location for visiting Ripon and Harrogate, very clean and fairly priced, will certainly use it again
