Have stayed here b4, about 6 years ago. Nothing seems to have changed in that time. None, if any, up grades, especially in the bathroom, which was one we had last time. That said, it was warm, clean and served my purpose. The towels were large, thick and in new condition. (Not always the case in every place)
Brilliant
Great location and worth visiting Castle Greystoke
.
Perfect
Friendly service, good food, nice bedding and towels. Towels changed and bed made, bins emptied which was nice. HOWEVER Terrible bed, worst I have ever tried to sleep in. Rooms very dated like 1960s and very dark, lovely hair dryer but no socket any where near a mirror. Kettle etc on a dark cubby with no light. Rooms directly above the main bar with no sound proofing. Kitchen smell very strong on bedroom, fat bur ing made my eyes smart kitchen yards away with from bedroom, no door, and little extraction, cigarette smoke coming into bedroom from customers smoking outside pub front door. Booked table in restaurant for a meal, was instead seated in the bar as a single elderly lady not the best place to be seated on a Saturday night. All in all apart from food very disappointing stay.
The staff at the Boot and Shoe were lovely - they were friendly and helpful during our stay. The cooked breakfast was excellent. We had booked a table for dinner but unfortunately the table we’d been allocated wasn’t great so we dined elsewhere. The staff were really apologetic and gave us a complimentary round of drinks to make up for this. The room itself was fine. The bed was ok and the room was clean. It felt a bit tired though and needed a bit of updating. A good stay overall, especially thanks to the team at The Boot and Shoe.
There were problems with service at supper time. Otherwise very friendly.
It is an old historic property with bags of character. Having said that, the seats in the dining area were torn and in a poor condition. Simple things like no bedside cupboard on one side of bed. No socket near the mirror and nowhere to place toiletries in the bathroom. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Absolute gem
An absolute gem of a place. Great facilities, great staff and wonderful food! Quirky and welcoming - just go, you’ll love it!
There was no standup shower and the bath was very shallow and difficult to get in snd out of !
Stayed only for 1 night with my 16 year old, as was passing through Lake District and the hospitality was amazing. All the staff was smiling and helpful. Breakfast was scrumptious. Would definitely stay sgsin.
Ideal
Lovely place to stay on C2C
Very welcoming, staff pleasant, comfortable room & excellent food.
Hospitable staff, quiet location and ample free parking. Thank you. :-)
A great stay with lots to see and do.
From walking into the pub we were welcomed like we were known to the staff. Everyone said hello. We had a lovely walk around the town. It is super popular whatever time of day you call in. The locals are always popping in. The evenings are popular with people wanting to dine.
The Boot and Shoe is a typical country pub . Full of character . We stayed for one night. The room was basic but comfortable. Shower was good . It was very quiet from around 10pm so we had a good sleep. All the staff were cheerful , friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. We had the evening meal which was delicious . I had the pork belly from the specials board , Breakfast was very good too. We had the full English .
Lovely Find
Lovely stay. Room clean and comfortabe, bar food good and breakfast excellent.
Always my go to place when I’m in Cumbria
Quirky, but a typical old Inn. Nice welcome, room spacious and nice large bed (room 4). Strange to find only one coffee cup, and only one sachet of shower gel. Wishing of which, it's only a combined bath tap and shower head. And due to the bath position/ceiling profile, there was no possibility to stand up for a shower. Be aware that the wall between the bathroom and next doors bathroom must be exceptionally thin. Noise and discussions were very clear... and especially a young child telling her mother that she had poo'd in the bath! Enjoyed the evening meal - chicken korma and the beef lasagne. Generous portions and tasty. Then breakfast. Not as good as expected. The lack of chef was explained several times, and my wife's request for poached egg wasn't met with enthusiasm, so she had the standard full English. I must add though that she could have had the poached egg, but "it would be 10 minutes". After about 15 minutes our full English breakfasts arrived! Very little phone signal (EE) but there is free WiFi. Don't take this to be a bad review. The location alone is fantastic, and this seems a well loved pub - by both locals and visitors. Would we return? Possibly. We have stopped elsewhere and gone out of our way to return. This one is more of a "maybe", depending on the circumstances and time of year.
Very welcoming hosts, clean, cosy room. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay here again.
Room was cold and noisy, but good location.
Fab place to stay
So so friendly ! The fog and I were made to feel very welcome
Brief stop on our way home.
We were passing through on our way home from Scotland. The pub was great, had a wonderful and spacious outside area with covered and open seating. They were very accommodating of our dog. Had a great meal in the evening, and an equally good breakfast before getting back on the road. The area was beautiful and wish we had more time to roam.
They’re always really friendly. I first stayed here in 2009. I was running late, called ahead and they were kind enough to make me a meal ahead of arriving and warmed it up for me when I got there.
Perfect country stay
Stayed for two nights using the pub as a base for an event at the nearby castle. The staff were very friendly, helpful and couldn’t do enough for me. Room had been warmed (very cold weather), all amenities explained and more. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and have all the expected appliances etc. lovely and clean. Good selection of drinks in the pub, food is excellent and plenty of choice. Lamb was outstanding and extremely generous. Breakfast is equally good, nice selection and well prepared. Staff are the highlight and make a solo traveller feel very welcome. On a snowy, icy night they kept the fire stoked and atmosphere equally warm,
Loved it!
Absolutely fabulous stay. Very friendly staff, in particular Mike in the bar. Very clean room, large bathroom and tea and coffee provided. Breakfast was a full English and perfect portion sizes. Wish we could have stayed longer.
A great pub stay
A very comfortable stay, this is a very friendly, welcoming country pub. Staff were great, room was comfortable and food was good. And a special thanks to Sam for coming in early and cooking my breakfast.
Never again
Although carrying a suitcase on my arrival the team member who greeted questioned I had a booking. I had to get my reservation up on my phone for her. I was told nobody was staying in the hotel tonight so I could have any room. (No surprise there not the most desirable place to stay) I was shown to room 2. The welcome was poor to say the least. The room was basic which is a generous description for it. I had a burger which was like leather I asked for it without relish this request was ignored.
Excellent base for exploring surrounding area.
Located in quiet village on edge of Lake District we were given a warm welcome on arrival. All staff very friendly and efficient. Substantial good quality breakfast and evening meal. Comfortable room. Excellent base for exploring surrounding area but away from the crowds. Would highly recommend.
Genuine historical pub in beautiful Lakes village.
We were made to feel very welcome.... and the food was deliciously.
Fabulous
Wonderful pub with very friendly staff. The room was lovely with a huge comfortable bed and brilliant shower. Great food and beer served. Will definitely go again.
If you want dinner in the evening make sure to book, it’s a popular pub and it gets quite busy!
Good stay but late breakfast
The Boot and Shoe has character you would hope to expect from a vintage pub in a Cumbria village. The room was very comfortable and the welcome was warm and friendly. The only downside was that breakfast wasn't served until 8am (the time orders were taken), which is fine if you are staying on a leisure break but not if you staying on business, with appointments at 9am. This wasn't at all convenient.
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Good food and comfortable nights stay.
Friendly staff, great service, good food, nice atmosphere. Only one down side was that I did not realise the room only had a bath no shower but that was my fault.
Great weekend
A wonderful pub in a wonderful village. The staff were great and the food was first class
lovely village atmosphere central for our needs and easy to get to. Plenty to see and good base for sightseeing walking etc
Lovely pub, great food and friendly staff. Very dog friendly

lovely jubley olde worldy pub
lovely homely pub with spacious bedroom and massive shower. as you would expect over a popular pub it was a little noisy til throwing out time. great sleep in a comfy bed.food excellent and a big breakfast in the morning which is included. hosts and staff brilliant.will definately stay again.
C2C
Great place to stay doing the C2C. Beer great, food good and the shower was the best to ease those aches and pains
Great b&b on the C2C route.
Great room good facilities. Staff very accommodating and friendly
Comfortable & friendly. Very good food - breakfast excellent
Business and pleasure stay
Wonderful place to stay, great food and service. Atmosphere in the pub was excellent, dog friendly too!
Boot & Shoe
Lovely country pub with excellent food. Also worth knowing that you can park in the village hall car park which is just over the road.
Greystoke
Very welcoming friendly staff lovely old English pub breakfasts more than adequate and dinners good. Room very comfortable and clean. Travelling to or from the North would certainly consider staying again.
NO SLEEP
Nice pub thoroughly spolt by the bedrooms being directly over some outside tables. So, on a warm evening, people sat outside until 11.45, and as the bed was about 4 feet away from the table - NO SLEEP. Probably great for winter or mid week, but not when you need to sleep.
