Five Star all the way. Staff went above and beyond on all requests.
This is our third visit and it was nothing less than spectacular. The hotel and amenities are top-notch, the staff and customer service is second to none. The complementary breakfast is outstanding and the restaurants and pub are fantastic. The location cannot be beat. I can’t say enough positive things about each individual staff member who is beyond courteous, kind, and friendly. I cannot wait to return once again.
Hotel is beautiful and a bucket list for my husband. We had a view of the 18th hole and the ocean. Dinner at 18 was delicious. Thank you for a great vacation!
The Rusacks is the absolute best place to stay in St Andrews
This is a charming property with excellent service! Love it!
Good location. Got a balcony room facing Old Course and really enjoyed the stunning view. Breakfast during weekend was very slow and crowded. Weekday breakfasts were much more enjoyable. Gym is small. Room is decent size but somehow the bed is way too close to the closet that we couldn't even open the doors. Every elegant Scottish hotel.
This is hotel is an old world absolutely beautiful hotel with the kindest staff and the most delicious breakfast each morning. I really cannot say enough wonderful things. My 18 year-old daughter and I loved this hotel.
Great
Perfect to holf location.History.
Iconic and well placed. Weird smell in hall and room closets.
Very good overall. Shower temperatures need to be able to be set warmer and stronger.
Excellent weekend stay
Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights stay. Staff very friendly, room very spacious, views over Old Course fantastic and first class breakfasts.
The hotel is beautiful but I had some issues. I made contact with the hotel to make them aware and received an apology. I was not happy with something said at check-in, my shower handle came off and wardrobe door handle too. These were not fixed. The noise from upstairs, fridge and people banging on the hall way door prevented me sleeping. I had issues ordering breakfast due to a lack of menu in the room and reception not knowing what I could have. My room was lovely other than what I mentioned above, the majority of the staff were friendly and the food good. I loved the smell of the coal fire every time I went to the reception area! I just expected better from a 5 star hotel. I would not return at full price as I don’t trust that I wouldn’t have a similar experience.
This place was absolutely beautiful. The rooms are stunning an the beds are so comfortable
Lovely hotel & staff, the hotel and bedrooms are full of character.

Hotel was great and staff and amenities superb
Holiday season 2 night break
Wonderful
Loved our stay at the Rusacks. Thr room was beautiful and spacious with amazing views over the golf course and beach. Could relax in our room for hours. I had the most comfortable sleep even the pillows were a dream. The staff were all friendly, polite and welcoming. Would highly recommend going at Christmastime. The location is ideal close to the beach and the town. Thank you for a wonderful stay
Amazing staff!
I brought my husband here for his birthday and to play at St Andrew’s. The team at Rusacks made it such a memorable stay for us. They were very warm and welcoming from the offset and gave us a tour of facilities and a walk through of the grounds. They even had great quality clubs to lend him for his game. We were treated with a bottle of champagne to celebrate and a bag of treats for our pup. The room was beautiful with a great view of the old course. My husband was a big fan of the man sized towels and robes which many hotels miss out on. 5/5 would stay again thanks to the great team there!
Great Location and Property
Great location in one of the most picturesque villages in Scotland. The 18th hole is just outside the back door and the road hole is right there too. Great for a peaceful early morning walk, even if you aren't a golfer. The stroll down the street along water to the ancient cathedral is a beautiful walk as well. Overall the food, location and room were first rate and some of the best accommodations we had in our week in Scotland.
Wonderful hotel!
My family and I loved our stay here! The rooms were so beautiful and the views we had of the golf course were lovely, perfect for the golfers in our family! The staff were very friendly and were always ready to help us or answer any questions we had. We had a wonderful time!
We had no hot water but the staff could not have been nicer and moved us to a lovely room.
Loved this Hotel . Great location friendly staff beautiful room
One of the best
Truly one of the best hotel stays. Our room was great with views over the 18th fairway of the Old Course at St Andrews. Staff were super friendly and helpful. A real golfers paradise.
Excellent hotel and location Quite pricey for the size room and slightly low service level.
This was a special event for my wifes birthday. It didn't feel at all special, birthday requests were ignored. The room was overlooking a service yard, bins and bottle noise was bad. However we were in an old part of the hotel. The room was very cold and the sound insulation was non existent. The staff however enthusiastic were all teenagers and there seems to be little senior management. On our arrival, we asked if it was necessary to book the restaurant, the reply was it was not. We arrived at 20, 00 and they said to come back at 8.45pm, when we did we were told the kitchen was closed. After some discsions, we were shown a table, we were served 21.30. My worst experience was the car valet, 35 per night, but my beautiful Bentley whizzed passed passed me twicet outside the hotel at speed, i crossed to the other sidebodbthe road and he sped past me, before being left on a zebra crossing on the zig zag lines ( an arrestable office). This was a 550 GBP per night room, it fell very short of all of my expectations. Old Course or Fairmont, both of which i have stayed before, better all-round and much better value. For info, I am a very frequent traveller, I almost never post reviews, but this location needs to be highlighted on this occasion. Poor show.
This has to be the place to stay in St Andrews. Our room was extremely comfortable and overlooked the 18th fairway. Lots of shopping, dining, and cocktail options nearby. Breakfast was superb.
Rusacks is a luxury hotel on the 18th green of the Old Course facing the West Sands beach. We were pleasantly surprised at checkin with a grade to a 2 queen room with a sitting area with the best view of both the golf course and the water in the older part of the resort. The staff was exceptionally helpful in making reservations for meals, tee times, and airport transfers. In addition, the free amenities included snacks, bottled water (still and sparkling) coffee, tea, and juice. The friendly staff also gave us free ball markers. It was a perfect stay.
Very unique hotel- it’s not a 5 star- but maybe in 1800s it was. I liked the quirkiness. Staff were very nice! Overall- great stay. Possibly communicate private functions. We chose this hotel because we wanted to dine on rooftop. Ooops- private function closed!
The property is in the perfect location and the front desk staff made the stay even more amazing. We would definitely return and I would have given it five stars on every level if it didn't ten minutes to get hot water (not eco-friendly) or having dirty plates both mornings during breakfast. Everything else was exceptional!
Lovely stay. Comfortable room and bed. One issue was the blinds were not fully functional and needed repair. And the inability to plug in the coffee tea equipment in a convenient spot was frustrating. I understand it’s an older building but the furniture should be set up and chosen so that you don’t need to move furniture or rearrange the desk to make coffee! Charming property but I would go for a larger room next time! Great staff. Thank you!
Classic room.
Wonderful Stay
Our whole stay was amazing. Hotel was beautiful and they have kept the history of the hotel well maintained. The moment we checked in everyone was so kind and helpful and the concierge was also extremely kind! Definitely the best
Amazing property. Everything was great, staff, food, view of the old course. We loved it and can’t wait to get back.
Breathtaking views, friendly staff, clean rooms...really enjoyed our stay!
Rusacks is an excellent in a perfect location in terms of access to St Andrews town and The Old Course. Highly recommended.
This is one of the most enjoyable stays I have ever had at a hotel. Beautiful common areas, incredibly comfortable accommodations and a staff that has been superbly trained in the art of SERVICE.
Great staff!...beautiful place
Very disappointed in the shower in my room. Never had water and unable to shower.
Gorgeous hotel. Superb location . Staff went above & beyond
Parking not so accommodating to guests unless you do the valet which is very costly.
Wonderful
Wonderful hotel, staff are delightful and welcoming, nothing too much trouble, hotel is beautiful with excellent views of the beach and close to all amenities. Food was excellent too, only thing I would say is they should serve the avocado at room temperature before adding to toast with poached egg for breakfast however, aside from that, can’t fault the place and would highly recommend 👌
This was our first time staying at the property and from the moment we arrived at reception. The concierge took us to our room and showed us around. The room was comfortable and very well presented, with great amenities like coffee machine and ropes available. We had a pre dinner drink at the 18th Bar and Restaurant and dined locally at the Haar. In the morning we had a perfect seat overlooking the 18th and beach view. Friendly and welcoming staff, with great facilities. Really good location for walking around the town centre.
This is a fabulous property!! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and luxurious. The rooms are decorated beautifully with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was sparkling clean. The food options were great. We had dinner and breakfast next morning and both meals were delicious. The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to give us recommendations for things to do/see and to show us how to get places! I highly recommend this hotel and hope to be back for a longer visit!
Fab hotel in a great location
Rusacks was one of my favorite ever hotel experiences! Stunning property overlooking the 18th green and the ocean, easy walk to ruins, shops, restaurants, the University buildings, EXCEPTIONAL staff, 3 wonderful restaurants, impeccable rooms, super classical yet totally new and updated inside, just a PERFECT 10!!!! I miss it already!!!!
Fantastic hotel and staff, friendly, professional, helpful. Because of them I managed to play at the Old Course (I’m from Canada, I didn’t know golf would be available this time of year… they gave me the idea and helped me make it happen!) The atmosphere was great, it seemed like all guests were having a good time. The “One Under” pub downstairs was fantastic… I had a great time thank you for everything guys!
1- like other reviewers, I also experienced plumbing issues ( hot water delay) water not maintaining temperature. 2- As a global traveler, this was the smallest room I ever stayed in. 3- For breakfast, I felt like porridge was microwaved and pancakes were from Tesco. 4- breakfast service was attentive
.
Fantastic Hotel & Staff
Fantastic stay at Rusacks St Andrews. 10/10
From start to finish, the staff in this hotel are very professional. Excellent food in all of the restaurants Great atmosphere Look forward to my next visit
Disappointing stay
First impressions of the hotel were good. There was a warm welcome and the decor is lovely. Unfortunately, we spent the first night in a warm room with no hot water. We were assured it would be fixed in the morning but no-one came. When we followed up, we asked to change rooms. We then ended up with hot water but a freezing room. It was a dreary weekend in St Andrews and we kept coming in from the rain hoping to get warmed up. It was unusually difficult. Service was mixed. For instance, the food at breakfast was lovely but on day one the table was set with dirty cutlery and on day two with cracked crockery. Overall, not what we were expecting.
Wonderful stay - thank you
Fantastic stay. We were upgraded to a lovely balcony room with views of the 18th. Hotel is beautiful and service is excellent. My only suggestion would be to review the wine list in the Bridge. There are limited choices by the glass and those that are there are of a very similar style, particularly the whites. Thanks for a lovely stay
No hot water!
Shocking kitchen service
Unfortunately a very poor experience. Having stayed at the Rusacks several times before this was booked for my father in laws 60th birthday. The rooms were nice and the meal we had at the rooftop restaurant was very good but the breakfasts both morning were an absolute shambles and the lack of communication from staff to guests was appalling. It was clear that lots of complaints were made to the hotel about breakfast service. On our first morning 4 breakfasts took 45 minutes to arrive and when they finally did 2 of the dishes were cold. It was never communicated to us why it took so long and we asked several times what was going on with no other answer other than “it’s on its way.” Morning 2 was even worse. It took over 70 minutes for our 4 cooked breakfasts to arrive. We asked several times what was going on and were given little to no answer. Repeatedly told it is being cooked and will be 4-5 minutes. We only ordered eggs, toast, sausage bacon and eggs. On morning 2, 2 of the breakfasts were wrong when served after over 70 minutes waiting and a massive hair was found on my wife’s eggs. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review in all the years of traveling however the management of the kitchen at the hotel, communication to the diners and generally the poor excuses given by the kitchen/manager were terrible. Overall a really poor experience and unlikely to return as it was a mess and you did not leave feeling satisfied.
Great hotel close to town centre and with amazing views over the golf course and West Sands
Couldn’t fault it
Couldn’t fault it. Friendly team. Great breakfast. Perfect location for golf.
Great overnight in lovely hotel
Great overnight stay while visiting son in St Andrews. Staff were super helpful and polite. Room was beautiful. Chose the hotel as it is dog friendly and they certainly were. Would definitely stay again.
Rusacks is incredible. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and obviously catered to me as a golfer. My does not golf so I couldn't get a tee time set up as a single at The Old Course but they sent someone out to see how many people were in the queue and called me once I needed to head over to insure I could play. The rental clubs were newer Titleist with a Scotty Cameron putter! Bathroom had heated floors. The only hotel we stayed in during our trip that actually had a refrigerator in the room. Overall a tremendous experience and I will definitely be returning.
Amazing location and views next to the old course and easy walk to pubs and restaurants. The breakfast was exceptional and staff was kind and responsive. First class.
Disappointing
Poor check in, no welcome. No free wine as promised. Tiny bedroom and no upgrade even though hotel was empty and hotels.com gold promise. On the positive, good breakfast.
I’ve long wanted to stay here - although sadly it didn’t really live up to expectations. Firstly got locked in bathroom, toilet seat broken, a/c not working, room not serviced until 5pm and a long wait for breakfast which was pretty mediocre when it arrived. The staff were all excellent and maybe the rooms in the new area are better but this certainly wasn’t 5 star in my opinion.
Well located property
Outstanding hotel. Wonderful staff. Magnificent location. Great room. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The staff members were all so professional, eager to help, and focused on creating a great experience for their customers. Absolutely top-notch in every regard!
Loved our stay here would come back instantly.
Luxurious accommodation with friendly staff. However, breakfast was like something from Fawlty Towers! Tea for 2 but no milk. Salt and pepper mills both empty. Husband's full breakfast came, was eaten and cleared away and still no sight of mine. Couple at next table and single man both waited over an hour for their breakfast. My scambled egg with smoked salmon eventually arrived an hour after ordering. Anyway, view of golf course made up for it
Excellent staff, excellent room, excellent food and excellent location. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
Loved the beds and the room itself. It is very well decorated and had everything one could need. Staff were excellent at the front desk.
The staff at Rusacks is warm and helpful. The hotel offers in my opinion the best food in St. Andrews and has the best pub, second to the Dunvegan of course.
Great views!
Shower stopped giving water after a few minutes, could not finish. Reported to management and learned another gentlemen on another floor had the same problem. They lost our car keys, after we valet parked. Had to alter golf plans as we were delayed few hours until they found them. Totally unacceptable for a property of this caliber.
The staff is very professional and friendly. We checked in early which was nice. Room size is average unless you upgrade to a suite. Your paying for the name and location. There are better quality/value options in the immediate area. Kinnettles is one for certain.
One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The price tag is very high but all accommodations in St. Andrews are expensive and this one was well worth the cost. The room was large, well designed & very comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was well designed. The staff was very hospitable and the whole property was very clean. Our room was ground level at the front of the property and we didn’t hear a peep from the road all night. The only minor “complaint” would be the parking situation is not great. Both of the lots you can park in were full at the time we arrived. I recommend just using the valet parking, which is £35. Pull right up on the curb out front and the concierge will take your car.
Property is old but very well maintained. Old course is right out the door!
Room is lovely. Clean. On the ground floor. A bit noisy. Periodically during the night a machine would come on and make a loud noise that woke both myself and my husband.
The hotel is the perfect location to explore St. Andrews and the world of golf.
Great hotel
Well situated, close to the golf course, beach, bars and restaurants and shops. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Very nice room.
Good hotel
Great situation in St Andrews, close to the golf course, shops, bars and restaurants and shops. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Nice room.
Great property, but my room overlooked roof equipment
Didn’t like the fact that my room didn’t look have a chair and table to work on
Not sure when booking thru Expedia if the hotel finds the worst rooms. Our room was tiny with barely room for the 2 suitcases. The bed was double size and lumpy making for very uncomfortable sleeps. This maybe a UK thing too. The property was beautiful however and public areas generous. We ate in all 3 restaurants and they were superb. The reception, concierge and service people were fantastic
Remy saved the day for dinner and Erin along with the entire crew in the restaurant are amazing! Thank you! I will be back and only stay here!
Amazing Stay
I had an amazing stay. All staff personnel were very friendly and accomodating, especially the young man at the bridge restaurant (June 25/26). There was a mixup on my part with lunch reservations and he immediately helped us out. Rooms were beautiful.
Excellent location and service
Excellent location and customer service. Staff are really nice and friendly. They want to help you and ensure your stay is perfect. We had a great time and really enjoyed the Rusacks experience. We dined in all three restaurants/bars. Great options from formal to non formal dining. Of course, you also have the terrific views of the 1st and 18th holes - Old Course. All viewable, even if you do not get a links room. First class service and hotel. Will return.
Fantastic location. Staff very eager to be helpful and always courteous. Hotel room, small and had no lift access to the floor where our room was
Great property. Great staff. Great location. Historic hotel done right.
Excellent staff that is clearly friendly and well trained. Golfer or not, the terrific view of the Old Course from the rooms and 4th floor bar are quite memorable.
Great location, fabulous hotel service. Great view from restaurants and lots of fun cheering golfers finishing on 18. Disappointing Bar drinks, options and service on that deck bar. Still view made it a 4.5!!! Must place to visit!
Especially if your a golfer this is right on the 18th hole of St Andrews. The rooms are great the staff and service is even better. If you have time make a reservation at the restaurant 18. It’s on the rooftop of the hotel and oversees the entire course. You will not be disappointed!⛳️🏌️♂️
Evrything about the hotel went far beyond expectations. We got upgraded to a room with a splendid view of the Old Course. Spent hours in awe of the view. Staff was aslo super friendly and the whole experience was awesome
Classic decore, first class service especially from concierge Gordon Jackson!
There is no substitute
Great location, friendly staff, great food, very comfortable rooms. We’ve stayed here many times and will continue to do so.
A fabulous stay
Fabulous room. Check in was warm and quick! Everyone we had an interaction was pleasant and informative.
A wonderful place to stay. Beautifully presented and staff are very accomodating.
Great location, good dinning, friendly staff.
Great location. Staff very friendly and attentive. Clean and comfortable room.
They recently renovated this hotel. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The decor has an old feel but is newly appointed. The location is perfect. A quick walk to the clubhouse or a 10 min walk down to the heart of St. Andrews. I look forward to staying here again.

Property was taken from my room during a room transfer and disappeared. We contacted the hotel twice and they did not respond. When we tried to follow up we were hung up on before anyone actually said hello. I assume they think we are out of town and the best way to deal with it is to ignore it. It was simple inquiry, we weren’t asking for anything. Also noticed they overcharged me for a bottle of wine by £20.
