The beach and surrounding areas were beautiful. The property itself was disappointing overall, the facilities were very restrictive and closed pools and beach access at 5pm. Food was okay, nothing bad but nothing exciting either.
The good was of a very good standard generally. The pools are nice, access to the island is great. Could do with some signage up to inform why access to the beach across the front of the resort is not accessible.
Food was no good. Seems it was prepared early for multiple seatings. Wifi was horribly unacceptable
Beautiful beach it needs some renovations however I would recommend for relaxation
Loved the entertainment staff specially Queen and Baby
The property itself is very nice but the staff, specially in de dinning area is terrible, the options in the buffet are really limited and they use the cheapest drinks to prepare the cocktails. I had the opportunity to visit other hotels from Decameron and this is below the rest. Next change I would rather go to punta sal where the service is excellent.
Need to have more drinks poor selection other than that good service
Super stay, Cold Pools
All was lovely, staff was great, attentive and helpful. The rooms were spacious and had lovely ocean views. Only concern was even the ‘heated’ pool was chilly! Children playing in pool had to cut pool time short because of chattering teeth! This was Case each of three days in October we were there.
Unfriendly
Disappointed with the checking in procedure. It was burecratic, boarderline with interrogation very unpleasant. The rooms not too clean and there was no free wifi.
My stay in Decameron was very good so only I have somting to say about of licores that is not good licores I spect mor
Have to come back!
Great experience, beautiful place. Have to come back!!
A very nice all-inclusive resort
We had a lovely, relaxing time at this resort. One drawback was that very few of the staff spoke English, which we did not expect, but which was panic-inducing when I thought that one of my children had been injured while para-sailing. It would be nice if staff with multiple language skills could be somehow identified by their ID or some other means. The activities staff were especially courteous and engaging; they became our go-to contacts when our (pretty good) Spanish did not suffice. We rented a car to drive from Quito to the resort. We would caution urban US drivers to be prepared for a new experience including but not limited to: mountain driving (lots of switchbacks), a fair amount of road construction near the coast including sections of road missing but not always blocked off, slow zones and speed bumps in rural areas where villages front the road, and, lots of livestock. We obeyed the speed limit signs, gave local drivers the right of way, exercised caution and patience, and got the hang of things quickly. We would not recommend making this drive at night if you are not from the area.
Great hotel with awesome ocean views
Ocean views are great. Nice pools and private island make this place a unique experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Buffet food is OK, it could be improved a little bit. Oriental specialty restaurant was really good. Overall a great place and will definitely return.
Nice weekend
We spent a weekend relaxing funny t with many activities
Amazing view, comfortable rooms, poor food quality
The hotel is located in a beautiful place, stunning landscape, breathtaking views from most of the rooms. Rooms are very comfortable and big enough to accommodate a family. Be aware that half of the rooms are located at the top of the hill so you should be climbing lots of steps to get to the room, unless you get it from unit 17 to unit 20, which are very accessible and closer to the pools and the main restaurant. If you travel with children or elderly you must book in these units and in the ground floor. Facilities are excellent, several pools. The only problem was that the food, very dissapointing. They offer a lot of options in the buffet and the quality of the products are good but the food preparation and the seasoning is very mediocre, most of the them were awful. Desserts are disgusting. They have 3 restaurants where you can book your dinner at 7am each morning. I could eat in all of them and I the problem was the same. In the Japanese/Thai the sushi was ok and the coconut shrimp wok was nice. In the Seafood we didn´t like anything. The Italian was the better one: the grilled salmon was the better dish of my 4 night-stay, the seafood spaghetti and the paella were good. And the desserts were very nice: Creme Brulee and pears in red wine. They should offer less options and focus on the seasoning. The snack is much better than the meals. The unlimited beverages and drinks were ok. It´s a family and school trip hotel, avoid it if you want a romantic getaway!.
Nice view of beach
Excellent experience except the hotel needs golf carts to take visors from one place of hotel to another
Far exceeded our expectations
My wife uses a wheelchair and this resort is well-designed for this. High quality and variety of food, best possible climate, no insects, very comfortable room, and plenty of entertainment.
Nice Hotel On the Beach
Very nice - total accommodations, food, room and beach very pleasing .
I love Ecuador
I love it
Really interesting design, like Mayan temple. Because of the geography, probably 75% or better of the rooms have an ocean view. All appear to have a good sized deck or ground level patio. Rock outcropping adds a nice touch. For an all-inclusive resort, reasonable prices. Food was mostly just OK, but again for the price a value. I would not come here if you have a medical condition. Doctor on staff, but you are hours away from a town with a reasonable hospital or dentist. If you need a recommendation, don't expect staff to know anything about the area, most we spoke with were not from the area. Don't expect any help from the staff. First day at this all-inclusive resort may seem like a series of orders and reprimands from staff if you are used to standard hotel approach. You may just want to check in and move in at your own pace, but no. You'll be sent back to re-park your car backing in, which is supposed to help during a tsunami, but makes it difficult to unpack as parts of the lot abut a hill. Then you'll have to round up the whole family to be issued our arm bracelets (families are not trusted to do this themselves, although they head count your party at two vehicle check points on the way in). Although the access roads are not posted as such, they are only for hotel vehicles. If you use them, you'll learn this quickly. Made unpacking a pain. Better to just go along with the standard practice of letting them move your bags. If you need a little time to repack the car after a long drive, suggest you park outside the main gate to do this ahead of time. You'll be told if you want to eat at a specialty place to make reservations at the lobby area at 8 AM promptly. Would have been nice if they had alerted us to the snack bar, which is open when the other restaurants are not. Despite rough first day, good location/facilities/value.
I like the place but the only think i did not like , it was the food, the hot food was cold
Great value. Huge rooms.
We had a great time at Decameron. The rooms were huge, the buffet was very good. Its nice to have unlimited food/drinks. Lots of activities to do.
All inclusive, too many rules
Okay, too many rules and regs. Nice place, but... Can't eat here tonight need to book here 24 hours in advance. Sorry CANT come to this bar tonight, PRIVATE FUNCTION?! One would find it very difficult to get drunk on the watered down drinks. Apart from that very pretty place, Internet costs $5 an hour and you have to go to the reception... Typical expensive hotels seem to fleece till the end ;)
Beautiful place
One of the best beaches in the world. Will never go anywhere else.
best hotel in the area!
Really Nice facilities and yes it is the best hotel in the area I believe. Only that service still lacks a little experience and courtesy. I guess is because is a fairly new hotel but they should train personnel a little more. other than that is great and would definitely recommend it
Great for couples
The variety of the food is absolutely wonderful! The breakfast and lunch buffet changes daily. Im not certain but pretty sure dinner changes as well. There are 3 great restaurants you need to make reservations for. The best of these was Miso. 5 pools and 3 hot tubs, you can always find a place to relax that suits your mood. All are accompanied by poolside bars with friendly and attentive bartenders. Our room was right on top of the beach. The sound of the ocean could be heard even with the patio door closed which for me was great for sleeping. Spacious and clean very nice and comfortable king sized bed. Two closets and a safe. At 10pm each night they have Las Vegas style shows. With audience participation it was very funny and a great way to kill time before the Discoteque (Night Club) opens. From 11pm until 2am this is the place to be if you like to drink and dance to a good variety of Latin and American music. The DJ also takes requests! The private island beach is one of a kind. You can walk along the beach with the palm tree forest and see many forms of sea life. Turtles, sand crabs, muscles, sea birds etc. You can surf, boogie board even para-sail!! Also you can take a boat tour around the island, ride horses, play soccer or volley ball! On the island and by the main pool each morning they have aerobics. Board games, billiards and even a movie theater that plays 3 different movies per day. Overall a great place to visit with that special someone!
It was the best vacation so far, the staff was terrific, special thanks to Jonathan (trainer) and his team, the food was sooo delicious and the rooms very clean. We can not waite to book another vacation with Decameron Co.
Great hotel
It was awesome and I would highly recommend it to anyone: families, couples, retired...it was truly all inclusive and very relaxing!
Enjoyable experience
Nice hotel. Tons of food. Beware of jelly fish. Nice pools and new installations. It is more for couples and family.
beautiful property
I was disappointed that a resort designed for tourism was not accomodating to english speaking visitors. The resort and property was beautiful, clean and enjoyable. The drinks and food were not anything special. My wife and I still felt it was a great deal for the price and compared to the other top hotels in Ecuador, it out shines them all.
Good for families
The hotel in general is very nice, big pool, good beach, free snacks and cocktails. People is very friendly, you feel like home. Room size is OK for a small family (2 adult, 2 children).
Enjoyed, but quite a bit of limitations
The hotel itself was clean and well kept, but there were a few annoying rules that were not advertised. The first, is that if you arrive early (before 3pm) check in time, you can't even be seen around the property without someone telling you to go back to the lobby. Can't even take a walk around the beach, which should be public property because they will kick you out. Now I understand not being able to use the facilities or eat/drink, but really? can't even walk around? that to me was a little ridiculous. Also, you can't use any of the jacuzzi areas if it's raining, which it was during our entire stay. Not even if its a little rain or drizzle... they will sure kick you out as well. Another stupid rule that will make reconsider my stay here again is that you can't make a dinner reservation for a la carte restaurants until your second night. Don't know why but they won't let you. You also have to make a ridiculous long line since 8am to even attempt at getting a dinner reservation. There is absolutely no accomodations if you want to check in earlier or courtesies late check outs, because they will charge you 50% of the cost of the room. Last really annoying thing about this hotel is that all non-motorized sports are supposed to be included but guess what? THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED! snorkling and even just to get a surf board you had to pay a lot of money for. They had very limited activities and I think I rather try another all inclusive brand before choosing Decameron again.
Good memories!
It's a very comfortable place, as soon as you check in you go into relax mode and start enjoying the activities and sports they got for you or just chill by the beach or pool. The food was delicious too.
Would Def go Again.
Besides the long drive from Guayaquil to get there, I really have nothing bad to say about the place. I stayed for 4 days, 3 nights with my husband who is Ecuadorian. A good friend of his highly recommended the place. I def recommend making reservations at the 3 restaurants, we only ate at one of them because the first two nights they were all booked up, and to be honest we were a little late when making reservations. We liked the buffet style breakfast and lunch. Breakfast buffet is as good as any other, plenty to chose from from omelets/pancakes/waffles to more traditional meals like seco and ceviche. We drank Pina Coladas from just about every single bar on the resort, they were delish, finished them all. Resort itself was beautiful, lots of stairs, wouldnt recommend it for disabled people or families with little ones that depend on strollers. We found the staff to be very nice and helpful, this may be because my husband is a very talkative friendly Ecuadorian himself. We had a great time. . . def worth the low price we paid for an all inclusive resort!
Please more advertisement on the road to hotel
ok
Inclusive Isolation
The Royal Decameron is difficult to get to, but in a way, that's a good thing! It's off the beaten path, so is isolated and peaceful. From their beaches, you can hardly see any other settlements. They are working to build a new, improved road into the facility, so that should help visitors in the near future. They are also nearing completion of a new Spa Pagoda which should add excellent amenities, and may also serve as a wedding pavilion. I wish their guest rooms had more windows, especially on the ground level, where you are not allowed to keep your sliding glass door open at night to hear the ocean! The fact that security notices and cares about open doors is good, but it'd be nice to have a window option. I also wish they had an option to recycle the tiny plastic drink cups! For all I know, they recycle them behind the scenes, but a number of guests commented how bad they felt just throwing the cups away -- most of the bartenders would throw them away too even if you asked for a refill. Also, remember to ask to keep your wristband as a souvenir when you leave!
Royal Decameron in Esmeraldas, Ecuador.
We had a really nice time. Here is a short list of the only problems we noticed. 1. The nearest shop is about a 45 minute drive or more, so any necessities have to be bought at the hotel shop which ofcourse is an absolute rip off! So make sure you go prepared! 2. Despite being on the ocean the seafood seemed very basic and not much variety. Being a prawn lover I was very dispointed not to see hardly any. 3. When we go to the beach in Ecuador we like to enjoy the cocktails made from scratch with fresh fruit with hepping great peices of pineapple, watermelon or whatever stuck to the top of the glass. At this hotel a pina colada came from one of those ice drink machines with a bit of rum in a plastic cup. Not very impresive! Everything else was great. Please don't let this put you off going we did a very good time. I haven't commented on anything else because everything was good or great and the best thing about this resort is that it's 100% safe and clean. Hope this helps.
Definitely a Retreat and off the beaten path but not impressed
The hotel is located on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean with some great views. It is really hard to get to (8 hrs from Guayaquil, 5.5 from Quito), last 5km on a muddy unpaved road. We stayed 3 days/2 nights and after staying at the Barcelo in Salinas numerous times, we decided to try something new since we had heard good things about the place from my wifes Ecuadorian friends. Apparently they aren't as seasoned travelers as us and have never been to any other all inclusive because apart from the pretty nice rooms and view, the service at the hotel lacks and the food and bev is atrocious. The buffet is the only place to eat Breakfast and Lunch and can get pretty busy and the food quality is not very good. For snacks throughout the day there are Nachos, French Fries, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and fruit. The hamburgers are really bad, wouldn't recommend them. Dinner gives you some more options...the buffet, an italian restaurant, a seafood place and a Japanese restaurant. The 3 a la carte places require reservations so make them early (like 8am) to ensure your dining time (either 7pm or 8:30pm) otherwise you have to eat at the buffet. Aside from poor food, the drinks are pretty poor as well, the only one I would recommend is the Mompiche Cooler. The island is nice to spend a day at and the waves can be pretty nice sized and at night the shows are entertaining at the theatre. The pools are nice but busy & the service is slow. All in all, it is only about a C level resort
Would definitely go back
We truly enjoyed our time there.
Know what you are getting yourself into
This could be the perfect hotel, but just know in advance what you are getting yourself into. The facility is beautiful and brand new. It is truly a stunning hotel in a absolutely stunning location. However, the all inclusive nature of the resort makes it feel a little bit like a cruise ship. The food is plentiful, but very mediorce. Also, this is probably a cultural thing, but there is constant "entertainment". The problem with that "entertainment" is that during the day that means a dj that is constantly yelling over loud music that can be heard throughout the resort. Actually you begin to not notice after a little bit of time, but it is very annoying in the beginning. By the way, if you want to stay in this part of Ecuador, there is not another option within several hours that is anywhere close to the quality of this hotel.
We forgot a cloths in the bathroom. Could you check that they keep it. regard
Excelente hotel
Excelente hotel, volveré a visitar
Buona struttura All inclusive
