Charming, small inn
Charming, small inn. Next to very pretty church. Tasty and filling breakfast included. Looks newly redecorated. My room faced onto the car park, and had quite low ceilings… but my colleague’s room seemed to have lovely tall ceilings, and old beams. Pillows were a bit lumpy, and the room was quite chilly overnight.
Lovely character inn
Really friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend the apartment. Great food.
Brilliant Accommodation
Extremely friendly staff. Great room and great food.
Short stop
Very welcoming, comfortable with fantastic food
Escape Exeter
Lovely staff, accommodation a little tired, good pub food and a lovely breakfast.
Whilst on first impressions the rooms look nice, it is clear that a deep clean is required. The ceiling lights on both rooms we laden with cobwebs as there were cobwebs on the walls. On checking underneath the beds, it was clear that it had not been vacuumed for a considerable time. The staff whilst friendly didn’t service the rooms on Christmas Eve and as such we were left with the same towels for over 4 days and no ability to empty the bins in the rooms. This hotel could be so much more, the location is excellent and with more care, it could be a good place to stay. It didn’t help when a member of staff said that they don’t ordinarily vacuum guest rooms. That is unacceptable to only vacuum them once a guest has left.
Lovely stay. Delightful pub.
Lovely stay at The Red Lion. The apartment was delightful and the perfect place to stay before a day in Exeter. The pub is very dog friendly and our 2 pups were made to feel very welcome. The apartment was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious too. I would definitely stay again and recommend the Red Lion to everyone.
lovely hotel in a very nice area. food was very good.
Charming staff and super quiet here. Great breakfast.
A proper pub stay!
This was a real home from home. We could not have been made to feel more welcome. After a 3.5 day drive from Corfu to walk through the doors of a friendly Great British hostelry was simply the best experience. Spacious accommodation in the Flat, plenty of room to unwind with my two dogs who were a little wound up after the long drive. A good nights sleep and the ability to run off steam in the field opposite, we all left relaxed and chilled. Pub grub was fabulous too! As I couldn’t stay for breakfast , they even went to the trouble of sending me off with a packed lunch! 😋

Great food, great room and fantastic staff
A lovely old pub serving great food and with comfortable and clean rooms. The staff were friendly, helpful and we had great service at both dinner and breakfast. Really enjoyed our stay
Great pub. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic, friendly staff. The food was amazing and some unusual things on the menu. Great breakfast too. Our room was really lovely too. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back!
A good choice
We had a good stay. Room food and beer all good. We had to leave before breakfast and were offered takeaway options instead which was appreciated.
Great
Everything about our stay was great, reception, service, food, room all perfect
Excellent find near Exeter
Great welcome by Matt. Good, clean room. Evening meal lovely. Breakfast superb. We will be back.
Lovely stay
Stayed for 2 nights in the apartment. Very comfortable, quiet, clean. Breakfast and evening meal were excellent. Public footpath close to the hotel - really nice walk. Our dog was very welcome. Would definitely stay again.
Lovely cosy find
After a very busy day ant work, we drove from the midlands and arrived at the Red Lion just before check in closed at 10pm, but unfortunately the chefs had gone home so we’re unable to have a meal. Very kindly the bar staff offered to make us cheese and biscuits. The bar was cosy and warm, and when we got to the bedroom, it was clean and modern decor but still kept traditional and in keeping with the history of the building.
Great location & Food, Accommodation of a very high standard, and rooms well fitted, Great breakfast & Restaurant service.
A Timeless Retreat with Modern Comforts
During our stays in October and November 2023, the Red Lion Inn in Broadclyst not only lived up to its historic charm but also exceeded our expectations in terms of service and amenities. Hospitality: The staff at the Red Lion are the epitome of professionalism and accommodation. Each interaction, whether it was during check-in or while dining, was met with genuine warmth and efficiency. Accommodations: The rooms strike a perfect balance between rustic charm and modern cleanliness. We appreciated the attention to detail in maintaining the inn’s historic character while ensuring contemporary comfort. Culinary Delight: Breakfast at the Red Lion is a highlight. Made from locally sourced ingredients, the meals are not only delicious but also beautifully presented. Their commitment to homemade cuisine, from the fish pies to the sticky toffee puddings, adds a personal touch that is rare to find. Setting: Nestled next to a church, with seating on ancient cobbles and a secluded beer garden, the inn offers a picturesque and tranquil setting. The rustic interiors, complete with inglenook fireplaces and exposed beams. In conclusion, the Red Lion Inn is more than just a pub or a place to stay; it’s an experience that combines the allure of historical architecture with the comforts of modern hospitality. Whether it’s for a quiet weekend getaway, a family gathering, or a culinary exploration, the Red Lion in Broadclyst is a choice you won’t regret.
Staff were excellent.
Welcoming !
I was welcomed with great friendliness. I was early but luckily a room was ready for me . Lovely room . Great hospitality and staff who were happy to chat
Lovely stop over en route to Cornwall. Historic and picturesque. Comfortable room and wonderfully looked after by Mandy & Millie in the bar at dinner and by Alison (?) who served as good a breakfast as I’ve had. A happy welcoming venue that provided great value and quality.
Fabulous old world charm amazing staff
Lovely inn
A really nice little inn. Clean & comfortable room, slept well. Quiet location; adjacent car parking. Good food in a historic bar / restaurant with lots of character. Competitively proced.
Very clean and comfortable Staff were very friendly and helpful Food was very good would highly recommend
Good stay
Great country pub with good beds, good food and good beer. I would thoroughly recommend.
Lovely place, all the staff were lovely, Carly was the one that made our stay amazing.
Definitely worth a visit
A friendly welcome, a comfortable and clean room, a good quality evening meal at a fair price and a quality breakfast the next morning. An interesting village setting, with nearby historic river mill and nearby national Trust property 2 miles down the road. Good value and a definite thumbs up from my wife and I. We would definitely visit again.
Warm welcome, comfortable room, great breakfast!
One night stay.
This hotel is in an ideal rural location, with nice walks nearby. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we particularly enjoyed the home-made biscuits with the good selection of in-room teas and coffee. The food here was delicious, and the staff are friendly, efficient and welcoming.
Weekend stay
The inn was a beautiful picture from a story book setting, aged and dated with maturity the staff were welcoming and the room more than comfortable the room was very comfortable and clean.
Very clean and nice room
Great place to stay.
Room was very very clean and comfortable. Staff where really helpful and polite and the food was a good price and really tasty.
A quaint old inn with modern rooms. Food remarkably good
Our Stay at The Red Lion
Very nice, welcoming staff who phoned us before our arrival, to inform us of when the kitchen stopped serving food in the evening. However, we were disappointed with the quality of our breakfast. Our scrambled eggs seemed more like fried and the porridge was too stodgy to eat.
Food and service were excellent. All the staff were very attentive
Superb
Superb - amazing service and food was delicious
Well placed
Suited me for the journey I was doing and well placed near Exeter. Quiet and good sleep.
Gorgeous setting.
Comfortable room and thoughtful touches
Comfortable, clean and with thoughtful touches to make our stay enjoyable.
Attentive staff, comfortable bed and good breakfast
Very enjoyable stay, beautiful old building but room and en-suite modern and very clean. Friendly staff and excellent meal.
Great for the rugby
Great stay
Very welcoming, friendly and homely. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Would be very willing to stay here again.
Really great, friendly staff who were extremely helpful and often realised what we needed before we did! Room was recently decorated, comfortable and really clean, and complete with homemade shortbread. Food was hearty and tasty and the pub itself is super cosy and comfortable. We only stayed as a stopover on a long drive but would have stayed longer otherwise.
Little hideaway
Food was excellent, best crème brûlée I’ve ever had 😋 The pub had a lovely setting, would definitely recommend it 😊
Another Night away
A hidden Gem. Very Friendly Welcome. Very Good food and ales. Staff very friendly and helpful. I made the mistake of following the sat nav which took me down single track roads(with passing places) at night. Next time i would use the B Road from Exeter , at one stage i had to reverse 200/300 yards with the car facing me blinding headlights - so i could not see
Great room great service good parking just what we needed

My wife and I stayed here as we were attending a wedding at Rockbeare Manor and it's only 10-15 mins away. So glad we did.. the staff are all lovely, the pub is cosy, the accommodation fab and the food is amazing. Couldn't recommend this place enough, we only wished we'd stayed longer.
