A lot to eat in the area. Very walkable and a cool vibe in the hotel.
Staff was very nice and helpful. I honestly wish I would have just booked this longer instead of going to another one. I would definitely stay here again.
This is one of my favorite hotels, ever. Quiet, dark, authentic, traditional. Great breakfast (get the Japanese menu) great staff, great beer in the lobby, the rooms are fantastic, the private sauna is something you need to do for yourself. It’s a great location right near Bashamichi St with a great Starbucks across the street, konbini nearby, many stations and trains nearby, walking distance to the waterfront, Chinatown, great food and great bars. This is where I will always stay when I visit the amazing city of Yokohama. Don’t think about it, just book it, very highly recommended!
Good hotel but …..
Centrally located hotel, convenient for Kannai, Sakuragicho and Bashamichi stations. Fantastic bathroom with hot tub. Very child friendly. A few negatives: no laundry/washing machine, windows with frosted glass so can’t look out and only 2 choices of set breakfasts- American or Japanese. We were staying for 5 days so breakfast became boring. No onsen either unless you paid to use the sauna.
Two new staff were on nightshirt seems no supports each other’s they were all struggling how to check in customers!
This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at It’s Ryokan style, tatami floors and beds low to the floor The staff is wonderful, the shower, tub and toilet are fantastic and so is the bed There is not much in the room, a bed, a refrigerator, tea kettle and mugs and a counter type table, no chairs Some of the rooms can be small, but that is typical of Japanese hotel rooms They have a private sauna room available for extra fee There is a great restaurant on the 1st floor and they have beer, wine and champagne for sale They provide samue style tops and bottoms Highly recommend this hotel Don’t wait, if you need a room in Yokohama with a great location near Bashamichi- this is the place for you - Starbucks, restaurants and stores all in walking distance and a ten minute walk to the most beautiful waterfront Book today, don’t miss out
The beds were comfortable, the rooms were economical and used their space well. Very private for a place in the city!
The only gripe I have is that its location and commute distance from central tokyo, the staff, facilities, and room was excellent
Nice, stylish ryokan. Walkable to a lot of restaurants and small trip
The room was smaller than shown but the bathroom was roomy and not the tiny one you usually have in Japan. Only two choices for breakfast: Western (not impressive) or Japanese (gorgeous and tasty). Complimentary coffe in lobby and microwave oven for reheating store-bought meals. Very well located, close to public transportation and within walking distance to sightseeing spots, restaurants and shopping options. Staff English skills not impressive so, do not forget your translation app. Overall, highly recommended.
Vert nice
It was a really good experience for me, it was very comfort and clean, and kind employees with good service.
Room is great
The girl in the night crew was very helpful, I bought a football ticket from a sketchy site. The ticket was in Tokyo, not Yokohama like I expected. I would have skipped Yokohama if I knew this, but that's my fault. Yokohama has the same snooty, dead on the inside, bougie vibe Tokyo has.
Concept good but lack in prior announcement
The stay was very simple and comfortable. What bothered me most was that there were no vending machines nor ice machines inside the hotel. (not informed prior to check-in) I had to go outside of the hotel and find the nearest convenience store by myself which was about 100 yards by foot.
Exceptional staff. The area around is safe and there is walking access to most anything you may want, even The Golden Arches for those less adventurous.
We stayed at this property once before and loved it. This time, the room was so tiny for a “delux, double, king”. It also has been smoked it recently and still smells … supposed to be nonsmoking. Also there is a spotlight over the adult poster outside the window of room 306. The handle on the window to open and pull down the blind is broken so I slept with the spotlight shiny in all night. Worst stay ever! All that for $300. Stayed at the I try continental down the street for same price.
Accommodating staff Best shower ever had Wonderful amenities Well prepared for 3 guests Quiet and private space I wish washers and dryers were there
Everything was great. There is no laundry available as opposed to advertised and they could provide better pillows. Other than that. No other issues. Would repeat.
This is THE place to stay. The staff is incredibly helpful, the amenities are phenomenal, the vibes are great. While many places will boast a traditional experience, this is the best one. We regret leaving the Yokohama area to stay at a hotel which paled in comparison.
Very Satisfied.
The staff were very accommodating and polite.
We loved that the room was clean and quiet but a bit too dark and some outlets were not working. Amenities were generous including daily free water bottles!
Everything
Very clean and easy to access everything property. The bathroom is a Japanese-style bath, you can actually soak in the tub. Loved the tatami room and the amenities that come with the room. The only thing I will ask is a small table in the room.
I liked their bathroom. I liked that I could rent a bicycle free. I liked their coffee, tea and green tea.
Nice place!
The room was super nice ! Big enough for 2, with a nice bathtub, comfortable mattress! Only problem was the room was super noisy. I couldn't stop the air conditioner so I can't say I had a good night because I didn't really sleep well. (I'm very sensitive to noise and need absolute silent to sleep) But if that's not your case go for it it's a wonderful Japanese experience
Clean and modern Ryokan
Very new and clean. Fantastic bathroom
Absolutely amazing Hotel. The rooms were a little small but honestly it was totally worth it. Very nice environment!
All of our needs were fulfilled here. The staff was very pleasant and the hotel is comfortable. We didn’t pay much for the room so we expected the small size and the lack of a view. Our only complaint is that the room was hot and stuffy when we entered. There’s no way to open the windows to let fresh air in, and the air conditioning is very difficult to configure if you can’t read Japanese well. Eventually, we figured out the air conditioning but it honestly didn’t seem to work at all. We turned the temperature down all the way and it was still hot. Other than that, it is a good hotel in a good location at a decent price.
Clean but uncomfortable
The bed was on the floor with only 6 inches around it. There was no chair, closet or dresser; our suitcases barely fit under the table holding the TV. It was very clean and the shower was great. If you're expecting Western comforts, this is NOT the place for you.
Interesting hotel. Free mobile rental was surprising.
The hotel is in a great location between two train stations. The room was clean and had a lot of character. It was very small though, but it is Japan and many things are tiny. It adds to the experience!
Good stay in Yokohama. Room was clean, staff was great. Only complaint was the high cost to parking, 3000 yen per day. Adds up quickly.
Great Hotel, Nice Location
Prostyle was a very nice property and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The room was comfortable, though on the small side. The shower was really nice, and the place very well maintained. The room also came with a pocket wifi device that you can use, and it's a great help for travelers. The hotel itself is in a great location, a few hundred feet from a local train station and near the Sakuragicho station. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay.
OK overall
Staff was friendly and efficient. Bed very hard. Room a little small but workable; bathroom large with great shower. The overly dark room is a little strange and takes some getting used to. Would consider staying there again.
Great location, beautiful room and spacious bathroom, handy device to take with you when exploring - with internet!
Very clean, pleasant staff, amazing hotel!!!
Cleanest hotel I’ve been to. Staff were VERY pleasant. Room was amazing. You will not be disappointed. If you’re travelling to Japan looking for an American style hotel, this in not your place. I’ve seen many reviews complaining about the size of the rooms.. if you don’t like small spaces, be sure to upgrade to a larger room. We will stay here next time!!! 100%
Cody and clean. Asian and Japanese mixed style. Liked the place.
Good location, just very small room. Bed was comfortable albeit on the ground.
Room very small could not swing a cat in it for the amount we paid for it. No where to even put a suitcase down without tripping over it, Beds on the floor, No chair to sit on, Very stuffy room, No open windows
Simple and clean, excellent staff and great location.
Fab hotel
A great hotel, ideally situated for easy access for the underground and trains. One of the best we stayed in during a 3 week visit to Japan. Like most Japanese hotels, the bedrooms are small but opt for a twin room for so much more space.
Really cool hotel! The design is an interesting fusion of modern and traditional Japanese styles. The rooms are a bit small but very comfortable. The location is great, very close to public transit and walking distance to shopping and other attractions.
surprisingly there was food debris in my room when we first got in but other than that, it was a very pleasant stay especially the japanese style breakfast was super yummy
BEAUTIFUL room, very classy and modern. Nice amenities. Absolutely loved everything about this hotel and the staff. Very accommodating when I forgot to let them know ahead of time I gad a rental car, as they needed a reservation for their limited parking space, but we’re able to find a way to store my car for the time I was there.
Excellent hotel. Friendly staff and a good location
Loved the rooms - nice take on the old Inn style accommodation. Rooms a little dark though.
Location was spot on, staff very friendly and helpful
Location - superb local restaurant Montes - great amenities pack
Bathroom was really neat and clean.
Japanese Ryokan-type business hotel. Very clean, bit too cozy but if you're alone or only staying to sleep, its none of the problem.
Excellent stay and will return for sure
The staffs are excellent attending guests requests. Hotel is in excellent shape. The only thing is that the room is a bit small.
Great Neighborhood
I was in Yokohama for just 2 days and a friend living there recommended this hotel. Overall I was very satisfied with my stay but would have preferred a place that had a Japanese onsen. It would have also been nice if they had at least one English TV channel especially for news. The best thing about the hotel was the location. Public transportation was easily accessible and there are many nice bars and restaurants in the neighborhood
The service was above board, and very helpful. Good location and very quiet
Amenities I’ve never seen elsewhere
The stay here was absolutely amazing, beyond believe. This hotel provided me with amenities that I have not seen at other hotels. They offered a “Handy” device that allows you the ability to link your social media, doubles as a mobile hotspot with unlimited data, and could be potentially a primary phone during one’s stay here in Japan. For a mere three dollars a day this device allows one with unlimited data, unlike my cell phone provider charging me $10 a day for 0.5 MB a day.
The room was so dark we needed a torch to find things in our luggage. All walls and ceiling are black. There is no where to put luggage except the narrow entrance passage. Bathroom and bed were good however.
Highly recommend.
My first impression here :) Nice Cleanliness of room and hotel, Friendly staffs, Good location, Quite, We can used a hotel’s bicycle to ride all around the city. We gonna come back and stay at Prostyle Ryokan Yokohama again :)
Very nice and comfortable hotel
Delivers on what it promises
The room is very small for 3 people. I traveled with 2 friends and we each had a book bag + 2 carryon-sized luggage. We had to store our luggage in our bathroom because of space limits. However, the quality of the amenities and futons were stellar. The front desk staff are also very polite, friendly, and know basic English. The hotel is on a quiet street but is close to the bustling main street and subway/train stations. We did experience one major problem during our stay. When leaving, we requested the hotel to deliver our luggage to our next hotel using the local shipping service available. The front desk was very enthusiastic and assisted us through the entire process, ensuring us that the luggage will be at our next location. However, they failed to help us write our forms correctly, so our luggage got stuck in-transit. This was very difficult to resolve, but the hotel staff worked well with us and was able to ship our luggage to our home location within a week. Overall, this hotel does its best to serve guests but I think the staff should pay closer attention to foreigners who may not understand the entire luggage shipping process. It delivers on its promises though.
our room was miniscule with extremely poor lighting. Our room was so dark we needed to use a flashlight during the day. bright night lights that we were unable to control or block made sleeping very difficult. no place for luggage so we were constantly moving things and tripping over things. Not a great choice for us
Best cost effective hotel
Pro : Every item in this hotel is carefully selected and comes in style with traditional flavor. Interior finishing is perfect. Breakfast is the best among hotels in this price range. Con : No gym. No window in the room. Hard to locate the place at night. (need to put more recognizable sign in the street.)
Loved it!
Excellent option, if you are into design you’re gonna like this one.
You can’t control AC from your room on your own. The Internet TV control from the remote is really cumbersome and not the latest either. You need to come to front desk to pick up laundry bags and paperwork as there is none in your own room. The staffs’ explanation is not consistent depending upon whom you ask. Overall, fairly disappointing and I will not come back. A state
Truly Pro
Really clean, really stylish and very traditional - It be great if they had bilingual instruction for the air con - other than that can't wait to stay again - The handy phones came in great - wish they had made clear what they were for when I first arrived
Good location and service
Hotel at a very convenient location. Proximity to both subway and JR stations.
The location of the hotel is perfect. Lots of bars and restaurants around. Only few minutes walk to station. Our room was really big! Had everything we needed. Would recommend to everyone :)
Nothing to fault, value for money.
Room is dark but nice atmosphere. Great for relaxation trip not for business trip so much due to that. However great bathroom and toilet for typical Japanese accommodation.
Very chic and first class fittings and fixtures. Good location in Kannai district. Pillows as usual for Japanese places were like rocks.
Modern & interesting decor. Friendly & courteous staff. Great value. Great location.
The room took a bit of getting used to, but over three nights it grew on me quite a bit. Not only is the dark aesthetic quite nice, but the rooms are very well soundproofed and have a peaceful quality. I did still have a few issues with the design: 1) It would have been nice to have windows that opened even a little. The room felt uncomfortably hot (in January!) until I discovered the circular vent for letting in outside air, and even then more would have been preferable. 2) The light in the coffee alcove was motion-activated. It would have been better to have something with an on-off switch, since preparing coffee and tea needs pretty constant illumination. Other than that, convenient location, friendly staff; quite satisfied!
Fantastic hotel that looks into the tiniest of details, such as preparing a snack for guests whenever we return for the day. The meal coupons can be used for either breakfast and lunch which makes it flexible. The bedside built in USB charger was also great! However, the meals were too salty for my taste and restaurant staff were too particular about chasing guests out by 1000hr. It could do with boxes for takeaways, espcially for families with young kids who need more time getting ready in the morning. Overall a good experience and great interior design.
Great proximity to sights and restaurants and breweries! Make sure to grab a pint and delicious bites at 29BY Brewery.
A nice modern ryokan style hotel.
New, clean, trying to be ryokan and western style hotel. Room was small, but big bathroom, great shower. .. bed just off the floor, which was tuff on my knees. Windows looked on neighboring wall about a foot away, and got almost no daylight, and no view. Felt very confining. Good location, close to food, waterfront, train & subways.
A quiet hotel located right along Bashamichi Street. Rooms were neat, clean, and quiet. As the other reviews mention, rooms are suprisingly small and lights dim than you would expect. Travelers with big luggage may have a hard time opening them because of the space. Deep soak bath tubs are definitely a plus. All in all good hotel!
Rooms are TOO DARK
Everything is great about the hotel - location, service, cleanliness, breakfast etc - except for the rooms, which are FAR. TOO. DARK. No natural light from outside (tinted windows), all walls and ceiling are painted black, and light fixtures are small and weak. Feels oppressive - a very chic coffin. Will not stay here again. YMMV, obviously.
Great choice in Yokohama
Its a newly opened hotel (August 2018) at the center of the Bashamichi and Kannai area of Yokohama. Interior is a nice mix of modern facilities with Japanese style rooms. Its in the nice part of the town with alot of food choices nearby and Chinatown just a few minutes away. It's also extremely convenient to get to this hotel with the JR Kannai and the Minato Mirai line stations just 5 minutes away.
Accessible & clean
The bathroom is very clean and decent. However, not enough space for unpacking the 2 suitcases. Check-in process is confusing, need to use the machine, but then the staff needed to doo all the admin work once again.
The room I stayed in had no chairs and I had to spend most of my time on a bed placed on the tatami mats. There was also only one electrical outlet, which was a problem.
PROSTYLE Ryokan Yokohama Bashamichi | Hotel in Yokohama | Travala.com
The Bad: The room was significantly smaller than expected. The double bed stretched from wall to wall with a thin mattress, making the space feel cramped. The window didn't open, and the air conditioning was locked to heating mode, making the room uncomfortably warm. Vents were visibly dusty, and the provided air filter had an expired, dust-filled filter. The fridge could only hold about eight bottles of water and barely cooled them below room temperature. The restaurant/lounge was closed (and has been since early January), which was disappointing. The TV was small, offered only local satellite channels, and the remote was in Japanese with no streaming options. The provided clothing didn’t accommodate anyone over 6 feet tall or 200 lbs. Additionally, the laundry detergent or fabric softener used on the linens was very strong, causing my skin to itch throughout my stay. I typically use fragrance-free products at home, so while I can’t fault them for this, it was uncomfortable. The Good: The bathroom was excellent—modern with a heated toilet seat and a combined bathtub/shower room. The internet worked fine, and the staff was helpful and courteous. The lobby offered convenient extras like a microwave, razors, and tea/coffee. The location was great, with easy access to trains/metro stations, plenty of nearby restaurants, and even a Starbucks. Housekeeping provided fresh clothes, towels, and two bottles of water daily. While the thought was appreciated, it felt a bit wasteful
