Good place to stay
Beautifully renovated 18th century palace
Beautiful renovated palace. Fantastic breakfast. Very nice staff. Only complaint is you hear everything from the hallway, but it was still quiet at night while we were there.
I absolutely adored my stay at the Octant Lousa. I had a great time exploring the villages and the mountains. I felt pampered the moment I stepped into the hotel and the entire staff was so friendly and wonderful. I can't wait to come back and relax here again. I have told everyone who will listen how much I enjoyed my stay!
employees with little experience
Great stay
Our staying was wonderful. Our room was so comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed the balcony over looking the town. The staff was so accommodating. We also enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. The staff was exceptional.
What a beautiful and historic hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our rooms were beautiful and the indoor pool/spa was an added and relaxing surprise! Our breakfast was off the charts delicious We loved our one night stay at the Octant Lousã and highly recommend
Quiet family-type hotel in a mountain town.
Great hotel and accommodations! Unfortunately we were let down by the restaurant where we had subpar service and food for the price. It’s no match for the rest of this otherwise great establishment. Would recommend as long as you skip the restaurant!
Mountain bike with spa experience
Nice stay during a mountain bike trip for a prime mountain experience. Quiet village. Beautiful hotel. Staff were top notch…the Portuguese aren’t known for customer service…these folks are fantastic! The room faced onto a street level view which wasn’t great; although surprisingly quiet. The spa was wonderful. We are huge fans of water therapy, moving from the sauna to cold plunge to warming tubs, etc. They delivered! And the food!! Very good. Breakfast was excellent with stunning views of the mountains. Highly recommend this palace!
The staff are lovely & attentive - the hotel is beautiful We enjoyed our short stay very much with them We will visit again & stay at the same hotel as they treated us like family
The staff went out of their way to make our stay amazing - our only regret was that we couldn’t stay another night! The restaurant served some of the best food we have ever eaten. The steak that my wife got was SO good that she asked to speak to the chef, just to tell him it was the best steak she had EVER had in her life! We NEVER do that!
We enjoyed our stay, the staff was attentive, rooms large and clean and breakfast was a lavish spread. Highly recommend as an unusual and lovel stop. It is a 30-40 minute drive to Coimbra but the attraction for us was the nearly Shist Villages.
It was a wonderful hotel and location was great. Service exceptional. The only recommendation is that they diversify their lunch and dinner menu to include some Italian pasta dishes and other common type meals.
I loved my time here. Good location. Great good, quiet comfortable rooms. Great staff.
Great hotel
Lovely hotel beautiful room friendly helpful staff and great breakfast
Beautiful interior and public spaces.
I cannot say enough about our stay. Everyone was wonderful. The mgr even offered and had someone fix our luggage wheel. The decor, rooms, grounds are exceptional. The breakfast which was included was fresh and offered many selections all to be enjoyed with amazing views. This was supposed to be our “overnight” stop on our way back to Porto but ended up being one of our highlights. From the hotel we drove to Coimbra snd as well enjoyed the local castle and hike.
Very interesting with charming atmospher. Excellent breakfast. Not expensive. But absolutely outdated. Good for 1 night experience.
Very unique historical palace dating back to 18th century with a newer modern wing with rooms that are clean and comfortable with updated amenities. Staff was very accommodating and offered to take our luggage to our room since it was a bit confusing at first to find. Breakfast and dinner were in the older part of the building in an elegant room. Chef provided a unique and delicious menu for each evening. Well worth going out of your way to experience.
Property still could use some improvements on the outside, everything else was great.
Excellent service, room, swimming pool, garden. Excellent restaurant, perfect dining menu. Great for couples, families with children. Could have stayed more than one day, but unfortunately the schedule....
We stayed in room 23 which was a superior double. The bed was lovely and big. The room overall was excellent. The restaurant food was lovely but had a limited choice. The breakfast buffet was lovely but the food was mainly in one corner which made it difficult to get to and everything was uncovered.
Not at all as pictured, property on state of decline; room was musty, stains on wall, and can feel springs through the bed. Location in middle of nowhere, 40 minute drive through mountains to Coimbra instead of being “bear” as advertised. Would not recommend at all
A really comfortable stay - friendly welcome, great standard of room in the new wing, with good heating, nice bed and great views. Great breakfast, too, in a lovely setting. We'd be delighted to return!
Lovely old hotel
Lovely old palace building close to local amenities
Beautiful, historic property updated for today's traveler. The staff were exceptional - friendly, professional and efficient. I only regret that we didn't stay longer.
The historic beauty. The rooms are basic but comfortable
Beds great restaurants was go
Staff were fantastic
Don't bother going there
Not like the photos....
Authentic experience
Authentic experience in a very unique location. Buffet breakfast was fantastic. Staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Perfect jump off point to any of the schist village hikes and mount talasnal. Would definitely stay here again!
Unique Hotel
Wish we could experience the garden in full bloom!
Fabulous
Lovely room, great food, beautiful setting.
excellent, easy lovely would go again. beautiful hotel, breakfast was exstensive and tasty. good value for money.
Nice stay in a Palace
This hotel really is a palace. Lousa is a small town located about 30 minutes outside Coimbra. We came to the region to hike some of the trails to the schist villages. The hikes themselves are nice although quite steep. It was wonderful to swim in the pool after a few hours of hiking. The palace is well decorated and the grounds are well kept. The rooms are large and have a great ambiance of history. Strolling through the different areas in the palace can spur your imagination to what it must have been like many years ago.
Good location in Lousa
A little difficult to find being at the rear of Lousa against the hills. You have to ask about parking but it it is plentiful behind the hotel. The staff were great and moved our room as the dark colours were not to our taste, room 21 is a fantastic room. Breakfast is well catered for and you can ask the servers for other things such as cappuccino or boiled eggs. There is an aperitif at the desk in the evening and bowls of apples and nuts in the salons. We walked the 'Schist Village Trails' strenuous but straight from the hotel- brilliant. Glad to throw myself into the cold swimming pool and relax at the end of the day.
Friendly check-in, great breakfast, nice common spaces, nice pool. Standard room was small, tv cupboard blocking the way to bed/window, carpets slightly stained
Slightly fading luxury
Slightly shambolic, but lovely hotel with decent pool. Rooms in annexe very comfortable Good breakfast
Great Hotel
Excellent stay with tastybreakfast
Needs a Vitamin B shot.
Tired hotel. Tired staff. OK rooms.
Nice, boutique hotel.
Very nice, and comfortable. Give the restaurant a try, but there are several very nice restaurants close by. Pool was too cool for swimming. May visit.
Lovely Old Palace in a Lovely Part of Portugal
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Palacio da Lousa. Our room was big and spacious , the breakfast was comprehensive and catered for all tastes, there is good free parking at the back of the hotel and we had an excellent evening meal one night.
The hotel is a maze, choose the old part
We booked this hotel as it looked beautiful and a perfect location for us for what we had planned. When we got there the receptionist told us her only had a room with separate beds in the new wing. Asked him what he would prefer if it was him (as I didn't sound good when he presented it) he just smiled? Then the confusion began....my husband was talking the stairs and I was showed the room by the receptionist as I could not FIND the room! It took us about one hour from we arrived until we where in the room, as we could not find it. It was ridiculous..like a maze.. the room was then about 25 degrees, under the roof, we asked to get the aircon on, he said he did. It did NOT work. Went down to reception and told him we had to leave if he could make it work, uncomfortably hot..he THEN had a room in the old (read beautiful) part of the hotel with a independent aircon.. Why did we have to get this worked up to get something the hotel promise on their website? Conclusion of this is we got a nice room, ok temperature, after a lot of discomfort, annoyance.
a stay in style
Great experience to stay in an old palace right in town. There are 2 big lounges with old photos and stylish furniture - a symbolic journey into the Portuguese nobility past. Comfortable and friendly and helpful staff.
Nice hotel close to hiking
Extremely spacious rooms. Very close to hiking trails to the schist villages. Close to restaurants.
parking was a far away, staff was excellent , loved the history, would get room at back of hotel did not like the traffic . had to race 50km next , day
Nice hotel but did not realize so far fro Chiado
Nice hotel great for romantic gateways - relaxing spot must be nice in summer
old palace in a small mountain town
Great place in a beautiful little town. Half hour drive from Coimbra.
Overnight stay
Single night stay, great staff at reception. Room was off the courtyard so quite noisy. Bed comfy and bathroom had bath and shower which was great. Fantastic breakfast, lots of healthy choices for vegetarians. Lots of restaurants nearby. Hotel free car park at the rear.
Beautiful Location, Quiet and serene , but far
W enjoyed our stay, rooms very simple , nothing special about them> unfortunatley, no tea or coffee to make in the room. The hotel itself is a nice palace, the dinning and the terrace is superb with excellent view of the mountain. Breakfast good. we tried their dinner a la Carte, it was superb, food excellent. Rice with Mushroom and Truffle amazing. The cod fish and sea bass were excellent too. The only down side is that it is far from Coimbra driving on a high way if you decide to visit coimbra more than once . driving at night, the streets are dark and the mountains dark, so you better not drive late.
Lovely hotel in quiet village
This hotel made our trip!
The staff made our stay great. Fabio could not do enough for us even late at night!
Beautiful old hotel
Great breakfast, average evening meal. Very pretty hotel.
Long drive from Coimbra.
When researching accommodations in Coimbra this popped up. Did not realize how far away it was. Somewhat difficult to find because of poor signage.
Excellent hotel with excellent foods
A very nice hotel we wish the stay is longer. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast and dinner are good. Once you know the way to the town and hotel, you can take it as a base to visit the region.
the hotel was exceptionally clean, the staff very polite and happy to oblige with requests, the food agreeable to most palettes will be using again
Nice place to stay
If stay in Lousa in the old city this a great place to stay..terrific old building.i book a room in the old section...good breaky and close to some good resturants
The publice space are very nice but the room needs an update. Very good breakfest!!
"Beautiful hotel with lovely views."
Loved this hotel, friendly & helpful staff. Comfortable and well sized rooms, in a beautifully converted old palace. Nice selection for breakfast, with great views over the swimming pool and mountains. I highly recommended it. Good Location in the centre of the old town, with safe parking, not too difficult to find.
amazing unique gem of a hotel
amazing! not to be missed - we booked one night and stayed for two - just didn't want to leave!
Great restaurant food...but...
Bedroms a bit small and my window had to be propped open as no pulley or catch on sash window. Food lovely and service efficient. I saw many babies at 8pm dinner start time and maybe a baby monitoring service could be offered with earlier child dinners? A bit offputting for romantic adult dinner to be surrounded by high chairs at 9 pm.
Beautifully quaint hotel with lovely views.
Had a lovely stay, with a great dinner in the restaurant on our first night and tasty buffet lunch on another day. Large selection for breakfast and flexible on timing. Beautiful gardens and pool area with lovely views - a great place to visit. Room was very comfortable and clean.
Great Hotel and Restaurant in Central Portugal
This is a very lovely boutique hotel and the rooms are spacious overlooking the mountains. It is rather difficult to find, but the hotel staff were very helpful and guided us into the town at night. It is very centrally located and is within an hour to two hours of spectacular sites of historical and natural significance. The restaurant was fantastic and the service impeccable.
Good Hotel , recommended
When arriving from the town center it is hard to find .We passed several times and didn't see it . No sighns for the hotel . From the back and parking it is easy to find
Great Hotel
Great hotel , only issue is that the entrance is not marked and it's hard to find when coming from Lousa city centerIf coming from the back you see the parking and find it easier
Quiet and luxurious getaway in this palace
A pleasant surprise in this wonderful hotel: the old building is beautiful and renovated with a/c in the rooms, modern bathrooms and everything you need. The swimming pool was a blessing considering the heat. Delicious breakfast buffet. Internet in the common areas but not in the rooms. We didn't mind since we were there for the peace and quiet which this hotel is perfect for.
Not like any other Melia hotel, this is not Melia
Tey are just using that name for bookings, but when you go there the name is no where to be found, the quality of hotel is very poor, the town is dead and this hotel is not worth more than 50 dollars a night
good hotes and staff
great christmas had in hotel
Great romantic hotel for couples
Everything was great, we loved everything about this hotel
Very restful
A tastefully restored andbeautifully decorated hotel. Unobtrusive staff who are very helpful and friendly. Beautiful views.
The hotel is tastefully decorated. It has multi-lingual reception staff who are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good. The location excellent and quiet. Internet was free, there was a computer for guests to use in one of the lounges.
Meliá Palácio da Lousã Boutique Hotel
We have a great stay at the Melia Palacio da Lousa Hotel. The room was great and very spacious. We ate in the Hotel restaurant and the food and service was excellent. We would definitely stay there on our next visit.
Melia Palacio de Lousa near Coimbra Portugal
Characterful and atmospheric hotel in a non tourist destination. Rooms were generously sized and well equipped. The dishes served by the restaurant were top quality. The main disadvantage was that the bars (both inside and outside) had very limited opening times, and this was a significant drawback.
Meliá Palácio da Lousã
A very comfortable and reasonably priced hotel.
Great spa
Hotel had an unexpected great spa
Awesome boutique hotel.
Awesome hotel... laid back atmosphere but refined and perfectly kept. Lousa is a small village in the hills south of Coimbra. Beautiful, quiet and extremely relaxing. The hotel is a gem... building, room, pool, restaurant and breakfast..... awesome staff as well. Only spent 1 night because time constraints... we would have stayed a couple more. Staff down to earth and understanding... did everything they could in order for us to have a perfect vacation, and they succeeded
A real hotel treat
an excellent hotel - great staff - good location - would go back
What a staff! Real friendly and professional
Mucha paz y tranquilidad.
Just amazing!!!!
Always a pleasure to stay
Clean and cofrotable hotel. Very nice views and breakfast. Friedly and helpful stuff. Since the opening keeping the high level of service.
Palacio Flair in renovierten Zimmern
Calme, cadre agreable. Mais peu d'activites dans Lousa.
Gostamos muito!
Excelente opção no geral. Atendimento muito acolhedor e receptivo. Quarto bem amplo e limpo.
Very nice hotel with friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room. Very nice swimming pool and playdround for kids. The restaurant in the hotel serve delicious meals.
Ótima estadia a repetir
Maravilhoso!
Um hotel maravilhoso! Conforto, beleza e ótimo serviço.
