We went to the SPA and ate at Ocean7 Restaurant. Both were excellent.
Our stay was nice in overall. Beautiful garden, the room has everything you need for your stay, staff is super friendly and accommodating. I think a little bit more of a care needed for this place. Our newly renovated room had cracked sink. Whould you live yours like that at home? Probably not. Half of the hangers are broken near sauna & swimming pool. Nowhere to hang your bathrobe. It’s minor, but annoying. Don’t understand, why it is not fixed. Bathrobes themselves are too small for average size man. And sauna was cold to use. Takes quite some time to warm up We enjoyed our stay, but for the price it could’ve been better
Loved the individual seating areas outside with the fireplace. So cozy and special
The grounds are so beautifully landscaped with seating areas throughout and the ocean views are spectacular!
The food was awesome, staff superior. Highly recommended.
Such an excellent stay. The Hydropath was amazing.
We LOVE the Hydropath!
Beautiful resort. Staff was excellent. Would high recommend and will most likely stay again.
A tranquil and peaceful spot, with inspiring views and ocean ambience. My wife’s favourite resort!
Truly ocean front room, spacious and comfortable! Spa and pool were great - clean and staff friendly Restaurant was delicious! Of course a bit of a wait for a table due to less seating space but staff handled it well!
Beautiful is all I can say. The view, the rooms, the property! It was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and we could stare at the ocean. There were many areas to sit and enjoy the views. I loved the bubbling creek with chairs and a fire bowl. There was even live music! One concern was the restaurant was not available unless you booked prior to checking in. The first night we didn’t get dinner till after 10 as they didn’t have room and after a day of traveling and the heat this was a horrible start. We didn’t understand as there were lots of empty tables throughout the evening. We managed to get a reservation for 9:30 for the walk-in restaurant and when we arrived we were not impressed. It took 45 minutes to get a burger, the waitress was not very friendly and overall not a great first day. My husband wanted to leave. In comparison though, after convincing him to stay we managed to get reservations in the fine dining, although at an inconvenient time, the waitress was helpful and lovely, the food was excellent and timely. The views were wonderful. Overall a wonderful meal. It was explained at this time that they were short staffed and the kitchen and wait staff were unable to handle the volume. If we knew we would have reserved before leaving home, so that is my recommendation. The breakfast was also delicious! In the spa area we loved the pool and hot tub and took advantage of the hydro path, all of it was wonderfully relaxing. Would do it again!
Beautiful resort and very friendly staff. We hope to return!
Beautiful relaxing stay. We stayed in the Arbutus suite overlooking the beach. Spa treatments were top notch. Enjoyed hydropath and massage treatments. Excellent dinner in the restaurant. Lots of updates have been done to the resort including beautiful landscaping with fire pits and seating.
Beautiful property loved hanging at the fire pits, food was amazing and of coarse the hydropath always my favorite!!
Great staff for an average hotel
Hotel was great and staff was really polite and accommodating. Beautifully located and the lights in the garden were fantastic. However the beds were really uncomfortable. We went for a relaxing weekend but left with sore backs. Food was overpriced for its quality. We found that eating in Courtenay was of better quality and value. Overall a good stay.
Beautiful waterfront location and views. One of the nicest places we’ve been. Not for the budget conscious though. Meant more for hoydies.
Beautiful and relaxing
We really appreciated that Covid protocol was met with the grace and professionalism that did not take away from the overall 5 star enjoyment of this property.
Serenity
Tranquill oceanfront peaceful setting. Our room was beautiful with a cozy fireplace and double patio doors to view the ocean waves. A very comfortable king bed with quality pillows and bedding...nice bathroom with heated floor. Kitchenette with all the necesities and a few extras !!💗❤
The oceanfront room with separate bedroom was spacious and lovely; my massage was pure bliss and the restaurant food was incredible.
Anniversary during Covid
We enjoyed our three night stay celebrating our 67th anniversary. Friendly staff, good food, nice room, and having our dog along was great. I especially liked the pool and hot tub and used it every day. Thanks for a memorable time.
Like: food was good but expensive; sitting area with fires and chairs;excellent staff;professional and friendly staff; comfortable beds Dislike: Room was in need of updating but we were not told anything about that; lighting in the room poor for reading and none at the desk for computer;
Loved the spa and restaurant was good this stay and it was excellent my last stay at the resort in March . The room was hot and made it very uncomfortable and I couldn’t leave the door open because of mosquitos and safety for my son and myself . The room had a bad smell couldn’t determine where it was coming from but it smelled like urine . I loved the resort it was beautiful especially the fire pit areas . My son was disappointed because we could only use the pool for one hour a day 😢 the hot tub was also broken 😢
Serene and rejuvenating
My husband and I enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The room was just right, with a beautiful view of the lovely grounds and the ocean in the background. We made good use of the pool, hot tub, and saunas, and the restaurant was top notch. We hope to visit again soon!
The room was lovely- the shower is amazing- likely the best shower I've ever had in any resort or hotel! Very peaceful gardens and chairs outside the room to relax. The food is excellent and expect the cost to reflect that. Close to town. A lovely resort for a peaceful get away!
Excellent food at the restaurant and the gardens were spectacular.
In these Covid times, our expectations are lower. Having said that, here are our thoughts. Our room was clean but tired (original wing), and while it was nice to be at the pool, but there were lots of restrictions. The pool attendant did her best to make it an ‘okay’ experience. The $100 hydropath experience had a reduced schedule which we had called to try and book repeatedly for 3 days before we arrived, but no one answered the phone any of those times. By the time we checked in, it was fully booked. We would have overlooked these things, but the kicker was that on the longest day of the year, we had looked forward to settling in After an expensive dinner at one of the fire pits to watch the scenic view with a fresh glass of wine at 9:55pm, only to have an attendant turn up at 10pm to announce, ‘We close them down at 10pm”. Awesome. We were disappointed.
Everything I had experienced at Kingfisher was amazing! The hydro path, fine dining at the restaurant, drinks at the pub and late night chat around the fire pit...LOVED.
Great stay
Was great, wish they had bath tubs
What's not to like about this property? It is absolutely beautiful with the setting right on the ocean. The grounds are very well cared for and the lighted trees in the garden at night are spectacular. I was in town for an event and wasn't able to get an appointment at the spa - that is my only disappointment - but that's not any fault of the resort.
Steam room was amazing, outdoor pool was perfect temperature even in February! Outdoor gas fires where such amazing thing to have
Nice room. Didn’t like the tacky light show in the garden.
Fantastic staff and amazing amenities. Great place to stay!
Wonderful freindly knowledgeable staff
Valentine's night at Kingfisher
The restaurant was outstanding. we made reservation for Valentine's day and our anniversary on Dec. When we arrived they did not have a seat for us. Somehow the reservation was lost. The manager, Tim, was amazing. He managed to get us in for an awesome meal. We were in the section that has not yet been renovated. I would not recommend staying in that section. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. Other buildings look OK. The hydropath spa is a must do. It was the best part of our stay. The garden was beautiful with all the lights.
Unfortunately the spa had a fire and was closed the time that we stayed. As such we did not get to partake in the unique spa the Kingfisher has to offer. This was our 15 year anniversary so it was a disappointing stay.
The staff are all amazingly accommodating, sadly there had been a fire in the spa so that was not available. Rooms quiet and comfortable (showing their age) in room coffee and tea were both insipid.
Beautiful all Around.
spa and amazing views
Great place, amazing views and installations. Unfortunately they have a lot of new people without proper training/support, and that is lowering a bit the quality of the experience. I hope they can be trained properly to improve customer experience!
Very good set-up as a couple getaway; however, somewhat disappointed with the food and the 45-minute wait time (from ordering) at the onsite restaurant.
Virginia
Always a pleasure to stay. The staff cannot do enough to make your stay more pleasurable. I had breakfast one morning watching a bald eagle atop a tall tree enjoying the view. We ate dinner lunch and a breakfast. We enjoyed it all. The spa and services are a must. Our room was clean but it was in the older section and was, I felt, in need of a refit. We experienced a constant banging noise in the wall. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were compensated. The property was decked out for the festive season. The garden was lit up to rival Disney Land. We will return next year.
there was nothing not to like, it was a really nice place
Room not what expected
The ad regarding my room said walk out to the garden but the room was on the 2 Nd floor not ground and it said I was getting a room With 1 bed the room had 2. I could see the ground floor 1 bedroom rooms from my window and they looked a lot nicer and worth the. $200 spent for 1 night.
Some of the rooms are in bad need of updating. Restaurant doesn’t open for breakfast early enough.
Beautiful quiet setting - great views from the oceanfront studio Was disappointed with the service at the reception in the spa - on first visit to book my appointment was ignored for several minutes including well staff came in and out of the reception area and talked to each other. I was told to come for my spa appointment 15 mins early, which I did, and was then ignored again for several minutes with staff and clients coming in and out.
My happy place😊
So beautiful and relaxing!
Front desk person and restaurant server weren't very friendly. Restaurant server did not refill beverages, nor offer to do so. Hotel room was adequate, but toilet chain kept coming off and I had to take the tank cover off and fix it several times - ick! When I told the front desk person about it she didn't say anything; not even an apology or thank you for letting them know. Grounds are beautiful, however..
very relaxing atmosphere grounds are very well kept staff are friendly restaurant and bistro are expensive
We were welcomed by a very friendly reception desk. The room was nice, but no wow factor for the price you pay. The hydro pools were relaxing, as well as the pool. The trail along the beach front was over grown and not maintained. It was overall a nice stay.
The hydropath spa was amazing!!! Staff were very nice and enthusiastic
Fabulous
A very beautiful and peaceful setting. The large common area with its pond, plants, natural gas fire pots and sitting areas are top of the line. My wife is already planning our trip back here ☺
Amazing hotel
Great hotel, room was excellent and the grounds were amazing. Did not use the spa as it was fully booked. Restaurant was excellent and food was cooked perfectly.
Lovely couples getaway
Very comfortable, friendly and classy.
Loved the gardens and enjoyed sitting on our patio in the evening
The restaurant is excellent, we enjoyed the mussels, steak tartare and a really good Caesar salad. Very friendly and knowledgeable service. It's in a perfect spot for relaxation, right on the ocean.
Incredible views! Fantastic restaurant at the resort. There was live music when we went right outside around the fire pits. Incredible experience
Confusion at checkin but after half an hour ended up with an upgrade so this made up for it. Dinner service was poor as I'd not booked a table, when I arrived told to wait at bar for 10-15 mins, 40 mins later still not seated and others were being seated before me and others complaining too. raised with staff and got a complimentary beer but what I'd have preferred is to have been served in the time expected and for the queue to be adhered too. So book a table if you want to eat. Spa was also fully booked so if you want ANY treatments book ahead.
The restaurant and Bistro were fabulous. There was an abundance of interesting menu choices as well as some very unusual cocktails to choose from. The grounds were absolutely breath-taking. There was a pond c/w fish, flowing water in and out of the pond from various directions. The ocean views were beautiful. There were about 10 very private seating areas c/w 2 - 4 chairs spread and a large raised, propane fire pit throughout the garden area...very romantic and mushy. You could relax and sit back looking at the sky for hours. The rooms were very nice and well decorated. Two complaints though...there was no A/C, although they did provide 2 small fans, and we had a very white fabric chair, which was designated to be a pet room....seemed out of place. The staff was extremely friendly, even being able to help with the multitude of plant information, which was very varied. The front of the hotel had a very large doggy are of green grass and trees. We would absolutely go back again!
Felt like I was in Hawai! It was excellent..........
My hubby and i had 3 nights/4 days for a getaway and we wanted to explore vancouver island. The obvious choice would have been to stay in the Victoria area (we flew in) given the limited time frame, but we were intrigued by the more rural location and spa offerings at Kingfisher. So we opted to drive 3 hrs north and check it out. What a wonderful time we had! The location is gorgeous, the grounds beautifully landscaped (down to the multiple fire/conversation pits artfully separated by all those flowers). The staff was very helpful and friendly and the hydropath at the spa is not to be missed! There were also lots of great places to explore in the surrounding area. It was a perfect place to get away from it all, relax and be pampered.
The kingfisher is a beautiful property with a well landscaped garden to sit in and relax. Fire pits were great as well. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. I only have one dislike and that was the beds. I like firm beds and supportive pillows. Unfortunately the beds I couldn’t get comfortable as I felt like I was sinking into the bed. And the pillows had no support for my head at all. I did not sleep well during my stay.
The fantastic garden and ocean view make this property unique. It is an oasis of tranquility. The staff is always smiling and will salute you from housekeeping to the receptionist. The restaurant is also excellent and we enjoyed delicious breakfasts and dinners while enjoying the view of the ocean and west coast. To extend the evening, there are several seating areas with a fire bowl that are conducive to discussions and relaxation. We stayed in the newer portion of the establishment and the bathrooms were incredible including the showers. Very modern rooms. We would return to the facility in a heartbeat.
celebrated a girlfriend's birthday at the resort ....afternoon at the spa, dinner at the restaurant and sat in adirondack chairs by the fire enjoying some wine into the evening. perfect!
Everything was amazing including spa and amenities !!
Very Lovely!
I honestly do not have enough good things to say about this place! We were a little overwhelmed we had booked "too fancy" a hotel for our hyperactive girl and our dog - something that should have been used for more of a couple's get away. HOWEVER, I could not have been more wrong! Not only were the staff super happy to see our dog, but the guests among the hotel were too! As far as our super active girl, the staff were so wonderful in the restaurant. They really went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable with the food and made some pretty fancy drinks for her (at our request of course!) My only two complaints I would be the fee associated with bringing your dog in and the restricted pool times for kiddos. I think it was an extra $40 or $50 dollars a day to have my dog stay with us! That is the highest fee I have EVER seen when bringing an animal to stay somewhere! I don't really think that fee is justified considering I have never seen a fee at that level before in my life! The other thing that I think would be pretty hard is if you are just using the resort as a relaxing get away and not leaving the place when you have kids. They restrict the hours to the pool for only an hour early on the morning and two hours in the evening. If we did not have plans during they day my daughter would absolutely be whining all day to get into that water! I understand there is a balance, but we are paying guests too and deserve to use the amenities during the day as well.
Bad luck this time
The pool and view was amazing. The beds and pillows were not good! My husband and I ended up sleep in separate beds for our 5 year anniversary. Tried calling the spa and leaving messages for two weeks and never got a response so wasn’t able to have any services.
The place is serene! Amazing energy and people, no doubt they deserve 5 stars! My only remark is about the the room, we did not get the one we booked. It was probably the same type, but with different layout. I specifically chose the room because I could sit and watch tv on a chair, as pregnant I can't sit on a bed anymore. I paid $100 more for this specific feature and they should've be more considerate. We got the room late and I was too tired to complain, plus I did not want to spoil our experience. If we gotten the room we paid for, it would be worth the cost for sure.
This is the top resort on Vancouver Island by far! From check in (thanks for the excellent service Lana) to the rooms and of course the awesome food this is a 5/5 experience. My advice is to pay the small upgrade and go full on walk out ocean front - you won't be disappointed.
The property is lovely and the pool is amazing as it is outdoors. But the staff in the restaurant was rude and unprepared when I brought this to the front of house staff in check in they didn’t respond to our concerns. Also there was filming occupant at the property and even though they said 20 mins the pool was occupied for more than an hour in the afternoon so we didn’t bother to go back. This should have been divulged to guests, especially if they were using spa services.
Excellent 2 night stay in a fantastic facility!
We had a wonderful stay with very friendly & knowledgeable, helfull staff Beautiful oasis by the sea
Perfect Getaway
This spa is exactly what you would hope for -- relaxing and invigorating from the moment you walk into the lobby. The grounds are spectacular, with beautiful landscaping and amazing sea views. The spa services are popular, so book in advance - you won't regret it. Don't expect a busy night life; this rejuvenating spa is on the east coast of Vancouver Island, providing a great feeling of isolation, along with amazing food at the resort restaurants. We will definitely go back again for a long weekend.
Could not be any better nothing to complain about
The ocean view and the courtyard gardens are amazing. Loved the fire pits and Adirondack chairs which make your stay inviting. Excellent food @ Oceans 7 restaurant although somewhat pricey. They definitely need to upgrade the building closest to the road and the lobby area as well. Doesn't have much curb appeal from the highway. The gardens are amazing in the courtyard though. Would stay there again but not in the building we were in. The resort is quite pricey.
Ideal peaceful setting on the water, with beautiful central garden area. All the staff members were very pleasant and helpful. The range of spa facilities offered something for everyone. Great place for a relaxing break.
Kingfisher
This is a beautiful Resort! We only had time for 1 night but was able to get into our room early and make the most of it. The walkways are great with lovely flowers and shrubs! We dined in the restaurant and the food was very good! We would definitely visit this resort again👍
The place was lovely, Beautiful view and lovely gardens. The seating around patio fires was a lovely touch.
I enjoyed the room view, comfort was iffy Wasn't able to sleep comfortably. Pillows were shockingly dirty and the shower curtain stank in the bathroom. The restaurant was exquisite. Presentation of food a cut above anything I've ever experience and quality of food was exceptional. The service was very professional.
Wonderful experience
Beautiful, area, view, grounds, spa, pool, restaurant. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Beds are comfy but a little hard. Somecsuites still need some updating.
Loved the lounge. The food is so great! The courtyard is so romantic and welcoming. I stayed in an Oceanside room and it felt like I went down the elevator into a total other place! Loved.
Possibly the most rundown hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was akin to a highway side motel, yet situated on a lovely property with a full spa, hydropath, ocean view, and outdoor fireside seating. I went solely by the photos displayed here and had no idea the room would be beatup with scuffed walls everywhere, furniture falling apart, a table top so sticky nothing would get it clean, handprints and grime all over the bathroom door and frame, and walls so thin I could hear the person next door clearing their throat, etc etc. I honestly stood there in shock for 5 minutes after walking in the door. Apart from that, the restaurant chef was excellent but we won't be back.
Property is amazing from every perspective. I bood room
We appreciated the location and the facilities, like the spa and the restaurants. Overall the staff were very accommodating. The one exception was when we went to check out, the person at the desk gave us the wrong bill. When this was pointed out she offered no apology or even acknowledgement that this has caused a bit of confusion, given that the amount due was $600 higher than what we were expecting. That was disappointing. Also I think a simple power wash of the cedar shakes on the original building roof visible from the pool area would make a big difference! Thanks for the stay!
This is a wonderful place to stay!!
Spectacular location and a well designed property. It’s a hidden treasure and I can’t wait to go back! Hightlight of course was the Hydropath at the beautiful Spa👏👏
Regular motel room but a great view and nice pool.
The view was very nice, that’s the only good thing about this place. The front counter staff were reasonably helpful, however our room was a complete let down. The rooms are small, the beds are crammed in so tight, you can only get in and out on one side. The wall mounted night table was pulled out of the wall. The renovation on the room was done by unskilled labour and the room doesn’t show well. The curtains on the sliding door, don’t cover the whole opening, the curtain rod fell down when I tried to adjust the curtain. There is an absolute lack of sound proofing between rooms, we could sit and listen to the conversation in the next room. However, the most unimpressive part for me were the silverfish in the shower, twice I killed these uninvited guests in our bathroom.
Water view, restaurant and bar on the property, quiet location.
I'm torn. The amenities were great: lovely view, nicely manicured courtyard with gas fireplaces Nd streams, great pool and spa area, delicious food at the restaurant. BUT the actual room was sort of awful. Standard room: many signs of poor workmanship, trim barely attached around doors, base board literally falling off with nail sticking out, all surfaces stained with cup water marks and scratches, stained carpet, shower head not properly attached to wall, no public liner for shower, just fabric so the floor was soaked. A welcome card left on the table from previous guest, noticable lines from where drywall meets, scratched in paint, exposed cords for tv, fake fireplace in wall. I could go on. One or two of these things, fine. But for the price you don't expect there to be dozens of examples of shoddy workmanship and upkeep.
the room we paid to upgrade to is excellent, staff excellent, food excellent and looking forward to the spa later today. The problem was online booking which showed a room with full ocean view but didn't give us that when checking in, so we had to pay another $80.00 to upgrade to full ocean view.......the expedia website did this and i usually use expedia but this has me wondering about using again
Love the location and spa service. The grounds are beautiful and staff were friendly and accommodating
Beautiful property, spectacular views and gorgeous spa. I wish I had known sooner about this place!
The staff and facilities were excellent. The food and services offered were also above par. Unfortunately and through no fault of there own the party behind us in the hydropathy session ruined our experience. More care should be taken to ensure that all guest are either told before or during to respect other guests right to a relaxing sap experience. It was mentioned to the staff as to what transpired but no apologies or compensation was offered. That’s a real shame as the resort is a very nice place to stay.
Room was dingy and smelled like smoke, The area between beds and walls was filthy. Service at lounge was not good, slow inattentive and forgetful. Spa was nice and grounds were beautiful
Rooms are older and in need of renovation, but the spa and the restaurant and the grounds are amazing.
Such a great pet friendly place! So impressed with the welcome note, describing walking trails around the property and requesting if you are leaving your pet in your room to please give your cell number to the front desk. In case they need to contact you. Dishes and dog friendly towels provided. Definitely coming back
Close to the ocean, variety of spa services, choice of restaurants. Wonderful view, variety of rooms to choose from and how the resort blends into the terrain. The fire pits are a nice addition.
the Courtyard was beautiful and brought in the island. I loved the comfort/romantic feeling of the lobby and the dining areas. Didn’t mind the fireplace in room!!! :)
Well appointed rooms, lovely suites, gorgeous views, spa, pool, restaurant.. The Kingfisher is my go to ‘special retreat” when I need to recharge from my busy life.

nice stay in a beautiful setting
