Great for the location, price, and excursions included. A couple issues: it felt like a constant fight to find an open bathroom. This location could have used a couple more for the amount of beds it has. Also, they advertise a backyard / outside area but that doesn't exist at the moment. Otherwise, parking was available and there were a couple good restaurants, bars, and shops within a few blocks. The beds were ok for me but would be too small for anyone 6' tall and up. I'd stay here again
Very friendly staff with good communication. Lots of activity choices if you are looking for something to do. Great community vibe.
Great hostel.
Great for solo travellers. Nice lounge and daily activities and excursions. Staff are top notch! Connects travellers together!!!
It was a quick stay for me, but the cleanliness and service were supreme. Honestly, everything was great, staff was friendly, common areas are renovated and clean. My towels and linen were pristine clean! Would recommend!
Nice facilities. Good kitchen and lounge area. Bathrooms/showers could use an update but still good for the price.
Checking in was a bit slow and difficult due to computer problems and lack of experience of the receptionist, but with no significant problems. Overall the hostel is comfortable enough for a short stay. Rooms are quite small, but everything was clean (including shared bathrooms).
Great team, dedicated to making your experience unforgettable
It was nice, though there are no privacy curtains and the fans as well as the AC units are very noisy. Had trouble sleeping the first night I stayed there.
The hand drying paper dispensers are installed on the walls with beds on the other side, everyone pounds at them all night long, maybe have them moved to the knee walls of the hallways not the bedrooms, pankxakes were awesome! And the kitchen is epic! Great job howzit ;)
Very loud music in common area
They host a weekly margarita night that we weren't aware of. Even through earplugs and the air conditioner in the room running I could still hear the music from upstairs. I asked the staff if they could turn it down even just a little bit so that I at least couldn't feel the vibrations through the floorboards and they did, but it immediately turned it back up 5 minutes later. The sign in the lobby says music will be turned off at 9:45, a staff member told me 10 when I asked, and ultimately it was turned off at 10:45 after I went downstairs to ask a second time. Ran into another couple upstairs who were also annoyed by it, and just pacing the hallway together unable to sleep. Fun event, but I am sure there is a way to schedule this better so that it doesn't so negatively impact anyone wanting to sleep. Or at the very least, adhere to the music cutoff time advertised. It is a shame to leave a negative review because up until this point we were really enjoying our stay. The property is kept really clean, the common area is great, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. All that said though, the primary purpose of booking accommodation is so that you have somewhere to sleep while you're away from home, so if they can't provide that, it's a big miss.
Mahalo Howzit!
I truly enjoy my stay. The free activities and transportation to these activities were great! The free chocolate pancakes and coffee were yummy!! The receptionist were friendly. My room was average however comfortable. Rooming with other people can be difficult if someone wants the room cold while others are always cold and want it warm. My room had a very loud fan. It did not bother me much, however other people were sensitive about it. I truly feel I have make life long friends.
We loved our stay at Howzit Hostel. We had our own room and appreciated the clean restrooms and facility. Everyone was friendly and loved the free shuttle and outings provided by the Hostel each day! Perfect for those without a rental car to see some of the best places on Maui. Highly recommend!
It was my first time staying in a hostel before. I had a great time meeting new people, the hostel was very comfortable, and offered fun activities.
They say “you get what you pay for”, but here you actually get less…this is an overpriced hostel with quite a bit of issues. The place is located in an unsafe neighborhood with limited food options. During our stay there was a loud party that went on till 11 and then a bunch of people kept making noise on the balcony, right behind our window, at least until 12.30am (despite a sign that said the balcony access was up until 9pm only!). The cleanliness was concerning…a restroom had a clogged shower and was completely flooded, and nobody took care of it up until we left (also causing a terrible smell of sewage on the floor). This is probably a fun place for young people, but if you’re 30 and just look for a cheap accommodation but also hope to get a good night sleep, then you better spend your money elsewhere!
Overall clean and good vibes!!
Overall loved my stay only issue was my code for entry to the front door did not work even after the reset other than that my stay was wonderful
Howzit Hostels - A Wonderful Surprise
This is an excellent facility, with superb service. Check-in was easy and thorough, and Kara (sp?) was friendly, attentive, and professional. As we were in for one night as a sleep-stop before heading to the airport, we were unable to take advantage of the myriad activities offered, but the amenities at the facility were great.
Great place--we were only there a little bit, but I was impressed.
Very comfortable beds, great staff, very friendly & helpful.
I liked the proximity of this location to local shops, grocery, and incredibly beautiful beaches. All walkable! The outdoor area set up for eating & socializing was really nice! There were a lot of people in and out while I was there so cleanliness in bunk area could have been better but understandable for the amount of traffic. The hot tub stopped working while I was there so that was disappointing. I’ve stayed at 3 other hostels and this was the only one with a hot tub. Showers were nice & clean. Tours were great!
Pleasant experience
This was my first time in a hostel, and it was such a great experience! The staff and other guests at the hostel were very friendly, there were plenty of clean bathrooms, seating areas if you want to just sit and relax, as well as plenty of free/low cost activities provided by the hostel, 10/10 will return and stay for longer, this was such a good experience!
Excellent stay
Our stay at this hostel was very comfortable. The pancakes and coffee in the morning were appreciated. Very nice, large and informal lobby. Rooms were clean and adequate with A/C. A bit of wait to use restrooms but not that long.
This was my first time to do this and I really enjoyed it and will recommend
Nice but Expensive
Nice staff and atmosphere, but a little bit older and overpriced.
Great place, great people, free tours. All around a good experience.
The staff are great and the property has a great vibe
Quick hit in Maui
I had a late flight into Maui and a quick flight out the next day. I was warmly welcomed when arriving at Howzit Hostel. They were ready and waiting for me and I had everything I needed. I wasn’t expecting the breakfast the next morning, but it was delicious. I am eager to return for a longer stay.
Nice and clean close to restaurants
Had a great stay, will definitely come back, private room was small but good, clean, staff was AMAZING!
Outstanding services. Everything is organized and clean. Safe place arrived late no issues in the location area. Easy prompts for parking. A great place to stay.
Best hostel i’ve ever been
It is a very vibrant environment, very welcoming and cute.
I had such an amazing stay! Impeccable customer service. The whole house is good vibes. The hostel is clean and very well kept. Free pancakes in the morning. Guest also friendly and respectful. The tours are great, I do hope to visit and stay again. Mahalo!
👍
Everything was great and friendly.
I like the vibe that the place has to offer and enjoyed the environment around me. Really good place to relax and the stay was worth it.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great place for young travelers. Coffee and breakfast available. My kids had fun playing pool in the evening.
Loved every minute ! Will visit again. Great event's!
The staff made my trip so great.
Very friendly staff and nice common room area with a pool table. Lots of young happy guests.
Great staff, very helpful and welcoming
I loved the staff, they were very helpful and extremely inviting.
It is in a very unsafe area, people are around look weird. My daughter was very scared. There was loud music going on in the hotel. The hotel doesn’t have parking locations, just on the street.
Nice
Best place to stay in Hawaii
Truly the best hostel in Hawaii. Everyone was professional and helpful and courteous. They like to see their clients have a good time and the value is outstanding.
You don't absolutely need a car for Howzit Maui, but it's really helpful. The hostel arranges daily tours and activities, but if you don't make it onto the sign up sheet, then you need to make your own arrangements. There are plenty of people who have car rentals, so making alternate plans isn't a big deal. There are six shared bathrooms (with showers) and a seventh just for women. There are two more washrooms on the main floor. They get pretty busy in the morning and at night. Pancakes and coffee are served every morning! It's a great way to start your day, but get some fruit when you can! lol
This is your typical hostel. The staff really went out of their way trying to help me get situated late at night with parking and my room set up. The area is really bad (zombies and car break ins) - so go early if you want a spot on the lot. Otherwise you will have to park on the street and walk a little ways.
New and clean place. Offers coffee and pancakes for breakfast. Staff are kind and helpful.
Shout out to Will for making it right when our AC was damaged in our room. Genuine person with great customer service skills. Clean and quiet with plenty of places to walk to. Will return to use again.
The location, the price and the staff are all very good. Also, the bathrooms are very clean. The A/C in the room for 4 people is too loud, cannot sleep. I wish the room can be bigger, but the price is good.
Great place to meet people and awesome stuff
Loved the downstairs area. Didn’t like The parking options
AC was to be vented but not successful. Receptionist was outstanding and bathroom was well cleaned. Lack restaurants in the area was an issue as well as noise from outside traffic.
This property is one of very few on the island that is affordable. It is geared towards the young, extroverted, and those interested in traveling for the sake of meeting fellow travelers. Those who are introverted, dislike competing for a restroom, dislike beach sand everywhere, and crave peace and quiet are better served staying elsewhere.
Cool Hostel
So there is a private parking lot, but also plenty of free on-street parking within 1 block - just move your car by 10am. This is a hostel, so expect youthful international travelers. There is a gas station nearby that sells beer and snacks. I had a private room, which is more pricey, but for a guy my age staying in a hostel, it’s what I needed. Front staff was really friendly and helpful. I needed something printed out and was able to email them the paperwork.
good facility amiable auendance
This was my second time staying at this hostel. It is a very nice facility and the staff is very helpful and pleasant. I recommend this place.
The biggest plus is that the staff was OUTSTANDING. I interacted with 2 different people during my stay, and one was great and the other was fantastic (McKenna). The lock system used is very secure, so I felt safe during my stay. The shared bathroom situation required a bit of patience occasionally, but was generally OK. Two nearby roosters started crowing before dawn, so the location wasn't as quiet as I had hoped, but I didn't encounter any problems with people noise. The big problem with this location was parking. There is no legal parking near the hostel location and not much legal overnight parking even several blocks away. I never figured out where the paid lot was, and neither of the staff people mentioned it.
Exceeded expectations for sure, clean and spacious. They have activities everyday so if you’re a solo traveler it would be a great way to meet people.
Good for young travelers.
In the middle of renovation, but very unobtrusive. Staff very helpful and friendly. Can be challenging to find parking, but if no vehicle it’s a non-issue.
Staff were great. Pricey for a hostel. Cost $200 for one night . Not enough bathrooms for volume of guest. At the end of the evening I had to wait about 20 minutes to use the toilet. Which was a drag since all I wanted to do was sleep. . Overall experience positive. The staff go out of the way to make it nice.
Not much Aloha
The hostel has been renovated recently and has more space but has lost its character I perceived it as rather commercial and kind of steril I was disappointed when I arrived since nobody had paid attention to at least 4 texts of mine in which I shared that I am handicapped and could not climb stairs My room was all the way up the stairs…
Howzit Hostel was immaculately clean and the staff were extraordinarily helpful and friendly. While most guests are young people we two senior citizens felt entirely welcomed and comfortable. They have a very nice, open lobby area with tables, comfortable seating and pool table. And it is just a couple of blocks from the wonderful Maui Coffee Attic which has live music most days. Shared bathrooms can get a little busy at peak hours, but we rarely had to wait and they were extremely bright and clean. We would definitely stay again.
Best Hostel Ever
I needed a last minute stay before leaving Hawaii, the staff was great and very accomodating. The place was very clean, and nicely decorated..
Definitely is worth staying here!
Good choco chip complimentary pancakes. Kind staff. Not possible to sleep in a dark room due to their set up. No hot water for shower. Didn’t get a lay of the land at check in. Quite expensive for quality.
Unique for a hostel? Free pancakes. I didnt partake, but they looked amaaaazing. Wasnt the biggest fan of the beeping door locks. They can be heard from bed Would stay again
This place is a very old building. Creaks and cracks. Noisy with no sound proof walls. This is the first and last time ill stay here.
Really cool hostel! Absolutely love the people who come out here and they have so many activities going on daily! If you don’t have anything planned, you could still go to the hostel and have an amazing time on the island❤️
Clean and neat accommodations and a hospitable staff.
Good value!
The property is under a remodeling process but was still worth the stay. I would definitely stay there again.
The staff here is very nice and welcoming,if you plan to stay for a short period of time,I recommend this Hostel, but there are no places to buy food, the neighboorhood stores close early, you do not have many options to choose from, plus the beach is far from here.
Surprisingly Nice Stay
The staff were nice and the accommodation was clean and comfortable. It was a nice environment to be in, especially getting to interact with other travellers.
The entrance was a little tricky to see while driving the rental down a street I was not familiar with, but i found it. Just don’t park on Church street when checking in lol. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and responsive. They had group activities and there is a little garden area behind the hostel. I should have returned there for my last night after I came back from Hana instead of using points on a hotel. Howzit was much better!! I’d stay there again no doubt.
Happy Camper
Thank you, staff; I will definitely stay again in the future. The staff was courteous, and the place was well-maintained, and cleaned.
Wanted something inexpensive near the airport. Clean and simple. We even managed to take advantage of one of their free day trips. Fun and friendly environment. Met lots of new people, which would never have happened in a traditional hotel!
Amazing service and group of people. Definitely booking them everytime I go to Maui!
Good for Short term stay
I missed my flight and i was looking something which is closer and in budget and i found this .. for the purpose i was looking it was the best option ..
If you are traveling solo to Maui I would definitely recommend staying here. They organize both events at the hostel and day tours to all the main attractions on the island.
Don’t bring a car
A lot too confusion on me reserving parking when I arrived early. Later on I was told I had to come and request parking. I did but I was told something else from the person earlier.
Nice place
Maui stay
This is a basic room with nothing else. No parking, they asked me to park on the street a block away and walk to the hotel. The hotel needs major upgrades/renovation. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless this is the only option available.
Pancakes for breakfast, amazing staff, social events a few days a week to get to meet people, and free tours! Can't beat it.
100% recommend it
I had a great experience staying at Howzit Hotels in Maui. It was a very clean and well organized place. They have amazing free tours and free breakfast every morning. However, I got to say that the best thing about this place is their staff members and the overall vibe of the place. Every single person that works/volunteers there has the friendliest attitude and is always willing to help. I would definitely recommend this place and would definitely stat there again. Alyss, Carlos, Jax, Dani (and everybody else), thanks for being the best hosts and making my trip to Maui so special!
The property location worked out great for us. Also we got a private room for my party of three. Support from the staff was wonderful.
A bit hidden and difficult to find at first. Lots of free parking in the area. One of the washroom sinks was clogged. Washrooms could be cleaner. Would not book again.
Hospitality and friendliness of staff
Everything was great and Mikey at the front desk was very helpful.
Clean hostel
We needed a room for right before Christmas to attend a show. This hostel was the only affordable accommodation available. Once you are inside things are fine! The staff are very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately some of the other guests were very noisy early in the morning. Talking loudly on her phone right outside our room at 6 am!! Our private room was clean. Shared bathrooms were also clean.
Friendly staff and great voluntarily outdoor activities!
We arrived after 11pm Hawaii time and our room had been given to someone else! They ended up kicking the people out of our room and we waited over an hour for sheets to be changed etc. We were exhausted. They only have space for 5 cars in the pkg. lot which was full and finding safe appearing parking on the street was impossible. Several homeless people living across the street. It was a nightmare!
I loved the ability to meet down to earth people from all over the world they became like family one of the beast stays of my life!
My experience was so good! The hostel has activities per day for those who travel alone, wich I think is really helpful!
Super nice and helpful reception
Northshore Hostel on Maui is fabulous!
The hostel employees were kind, gracious and friendly. The hostel itself was very clean, beds were comfortable and we loved staying there!

Was the perfect spot to rest after arriving from a late flight. Staff was friendly. Check-in was easy
