The location was marvelous. 100 meters from the Metro, 2 blocks from the palace and tons of restaurants nearby. My room wise quiet and clean. Id go back in a heartbeat.

We found the facilities and the location everything we could possibly have asked for. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. The room was spotless.

EL Hostal está ubicado en una zona cercana a todo (Palacio Real, Puerta del Sol, Gran vía, etc.) y a metros de la estación Opera del Metro, con lo cual tiene fácil acceso a otras zonas de la ciudad por este medio. Además, tiene acceso a una veriedad de lugares tanto para comer como para realizar compras. Respecto al Hostal, personal muy amable y siempre dispuesto, habitación no muy amplia pero con todo lo necesario e impecablemente limpia todos los días. Estuvimos 5 días con mi esposa y quedamos muy conformes. Seguramente volveremos.

Great location and value for money

We stayed at Hostal Oriente for 3 nights and we really liked it. The location was fantastic, in walking distance of everything to see in Madrid. The value for money was also excellent in comparison to other local hotels. The staff were very friendly and approachable, they asked us if we needed recommendations and answered any questions we had about our stay. Overall, we’d definitely recommend.

Nice place.

Great service and location .

Our second floor room looked out onto the square that is in front of the Madrid Opera House, and between that and the hostal is the Opera metro entrance. Madrid is a beautiful, bustling city and Hostal Oriente is an ideal location from which to explore it. We could see and hear Madrid’s liveliness from our little balcony but that’s part of the attractiveness of vacationing in a city. Cities might rarely sleep but we slept soundly with our very comfortable double kingsize and the aircon on. The Royal Palace or the Plaza Mayor are a short walk away, as are great places to eat, shop or just sit and relax with a coffee. There was also the convenience of a coffee machine on our floor for the €1 a time caffeine shot if you wanted one on waking. We’ll be going back to Madrid, and I’m sure we’ll be looking to see if the Hostal Oriente is available to have us stay again when we do.

Everything we needed

Perfectly located, safe, quiet, clean — all the basics and not much more but just what we needed in Madrid. Staff was patient and professional. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Madrid stay

Hostal Oriente is steps away from Opera metro station and close to major sites. An excellent location! Our room 101 was spotless. I couldn’t find fault with the room or bathroom. Cleanliness is extremely important to us and we were very surprised with how well the room is cleaned. The only issue we had was that we could hear the metro and people using the stairs. We would definitely stay there again but we would request a different room.

Short walk to Sol, Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace. Room is clean and staff are very helpful. They go above and beyond.

Massively over priced and outdated

We had to book a place to stay last minute. This hotel looked clean and we were desperate. The condition of this Hostal is bad. It was clean but i did find a fingernail clipping on the bathroom sink. We had no where else to go and had to pay an outrageous 160euros to stay here for one night. The staff was nice. The bedding was clean but i just wanted to sleep and leave as quickly as I could. This should be priced at Maximum 99 euros. It is in a good area but still overpriced. Book a better place early.

Great location and great staff. The room itself was nothing to write home about, but it was very comfortable because the cleaning crew did an excellent job each day. We enjoyed being able to walk everywhere.

A very good experience in a marvellous location safe clean welcoming and economicsl

The room was clean, comfortable, and the staff was really amazing and helpful. I asked for some hot water and they immediately offered to take an electric kettle to my room. They were extremely accommodating and allowed me to check out a bit later as my flight was in the evening. Overall, had a great experience. The main important points about my stay - really great staff and location.

Great location, needs improvements in cleaning

The location was great, but our bed sheets had stains in them. Our replacement sheets also had stains, though not as bad. The glasses in the bathroom were also quite dirty.

The Perfect Travlers' Stay

This hostel is really a hotel without amenities. It was perfect! When I travel, I'm looking for a safe, clean cofortable place. This is not a resort with tennis courts and swimming pools or yoga. It IS a traveler's perfect place! Super clean. En suite toilette and shower. Friendly staff! I felt very much at home after a day of sight-seeing! And you cannot beat the price! It's located in central Madrid. Outside the door are shops and restaurants and bars and within walking distance is more shopping and all the best sight-seeing!

Great location, very close to Puerta del Sol. The room had plenty of space for one person and it was spotless.

Very centrally located and clean. Check in was easy and fast.

Friendly staff, good location, but the non-smoking room smelled like cigarette smoke. It was clear that the previous guests had ignored the 3 'do not smoke' signs in the room. The hotel staff didn't/couldn't accommodate for a room change. We were forced to sleep with the windows open, but due to the city noise and garbage pickup, couldn't get much rest.

Great Location, Nice Place

Downside: Noise from inside the hotel travels "well". Upside: Clean, well kept, pretty small hostal. Staff was all friendly and everything worked well with some unexpectedly nice details for a modest establishment. Location is spectacular, walking distance to many of the places you would like to go and right on the metro line for the places that are further away.

Front desk personal Irina made our trip comfortable as she was friendly, informative and always happy to help.

The Hostal is just opposite the Metro in Sol Madrid.. l would say its more of a hotel as the facilities were adequate. Many thanks to the staff who made our stay memorable especially Irina who is a gem of a person.

Good location and nice serivice. Room overall is clean. But a bit small and old. Some noise at night as soundproof is not that good.

Good location by The Opera, a 5 minutes walk to Puerta de Sol metro station and a 20 minute stroll to Calle Gran Via. No vehicle traffic on the pedestrian mall.

Wonderful location for enjoying old Madrid & gives a great opportunity to see & experience Spanish culture.

Great central location. You can basically walk anywhere or quickly get the metro or a taxi. Located in a nice neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. Nice hotel and rooms. Great deal for the price I paid. Highly recommended!

Great location steps from Opera metro station. Room and bed were fine. Would stay here again.

Staff were nice. Room was clean and neat. Everything was fantastic! except for the noise. There is no carpet in the hallway so you can hear every time someone walks up/down. And I could hear the person in the next room snoring the walls are very thin.

Great price, location and quality

Excellent in every sense

The location is outstanding. I woke up with bug bites and the bed is very uncomfortable. I woke up with loud noise from people talking and some moving of the chairs (?$ at 3AM. Perhaps it is because of the thin walls. The location and the friendliness of the lady receptionist made the stay acceptablle.

Nice little hotel at the centre of everything

Great position, could walk everywhere, lively and safe. Lots of restaurants and shops just outside the door. Staff really helpful. Room pleasant and overlooked the Opera. Fridge in the room that kept the beer cool and with temperature up in the 30s that was very helpful.

Close just about everything.

Ideal location, reasonable price. David Garcia and the rest of the staff could not have been any more helpful, and friendly. Be prepared for the noise at night; but with the windows shut and the AC on, it was reasonably quiet. Great selection of cafes and restaurants nearby. Would definitely stay there again!

Nice hostal in a very convenient location to most tourist spots in Madrid. Beds were very comfortable and room very clean. Wear ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as can be noisy at times

a pleasant surprise

Being in madrid, I thought the place would be small and fairly average but the location was excellent and the condition was better than expected. Staff was polite although slow to warm up. The Opera metro station was just outside the hotel and there were plenty of eating places around as well. It was also within walking distance to the palace and plaza.

Good place to stay in Madrid for a good price. The hostal has no restaurant but you'll have a big choice just around it.

Old Hotel excellent location

Close but not cigar. Is a just two. Locks to the Gran Via and 4 blocks to the Plaza Major.

Convenient location

This was a GREAT location, steps away from the opera, near the palace and sol. It was easy to go in and out of the hotel as the key card made it simple. It was a little hard to find in the beginning as it is upstairs to eateries. Overall, clean, quaint, and great location.

Wonderful hotel in every way.

What a wonderful stay we had staying in this Madrid hotel. Our window opened on a quaint little square and we could see the morning come alive. Everything you needed or wanted to see was in walking distance. Rooms and staff were delightful. Breakfast not available in the hotel, but a quick short walk across a cobblestone street led to many delights.

I would suggest this great hostal

The hostal is in a great location close to Metro stations, easy to walk to tourist attractions and more. The staff is incredibly helpful, speak very good English, always cheerful and full of great suggestions. Room is a quaint little room but all that I needed, including a private toilet.

Excellent value; superb location and very clean

Hostal Oriente was in a great location, steps away from the Opera Metro station. The location can't be beat for sightseeing attractions, shopping, restaurants and cafes. It was also relatively easy to get to from the airport. The hostal was very clean and the staff were very friendly. I had a single room with a single bed and, while it was small, it was absolutely fine. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't get any sunlight, as the one small window did not overlook the street. The double rooms, which I was able to see when the rooms were being cleaned, looked wonderful; they were airy and bright and had small balconies overlooking the main street. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but had I asked for another pillow I think I would have slept better. For the price and location, I would most definitely recommend this place; however, I would opt for a double room with a balcony and street view.

Oriente Madrid

Good location. Quiet. Clean comfortable bed. Air conditioner off when nobody in the room, it would take 2 hours to cool the room.

Very small room

Very convenient location, next to the metro Opera. Air con was appreciated, however room was very small. Bathroom also very compact which made it difficult to get into bath which had the shower over it.

Great location!

The location of Hostal Oriente couldn't be better. Just steppes from the Opera metro station, and a few blocks from Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol. The hostal itself is pretty bare-bones, but we weren't planning to spend much time in the actual room. The bed was a bit hard, but that seems common in Spain. The bathroom was tiny, but adequate. For the price, it suited our needs needs just fine.

Great location!

We were there for 12 days. Room was quite small, as was the bathroom and shower, but offset by the instant access to city life and main sites, Old Madrid, etc. Internet was not very strong or reliable. Television was not working. Absolutely clean and in very good condition. Wish we could have had a room overlooking the street, but probably would have been much noisier.

Great location, staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed during August, the room was air conditioned so was very comfortable throughout. Would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for the very reasonable prices.

A friendly hotel with overall good facilities but very tight bathroom space made shower access uncomfortable. Central location near various transport options plus shopping and restaurants.

Loved the central location. Just a couple minutes walk from Sol, Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace. 20 minutes walk to the Prado. We stayed for 3 nights here, and had a lovely view of the street. Good air conditioning and modern Windows that kept most of the street noise out if you wanted it to.

Very close to Alcazar!

Close to Alcazar Real, which is an impressive place to visit! Easy walk to Plaza de España, where we happened upon a soccer rally for Real Madrid versus Manchester United. Great fun! Rather small room, tiny bathroom, but clean with comfortable bed. Provided with 2 small towels for 2 people,so had to ask for more.

Exceeded Expectations

The rooms was small but clean and comfortable, for the price and how central the hotel is, its an amazing place to stay. The location is perfect, close to the metro and loads of restaurants and bars, but you'll still be able to sleep just fine as you don't hear all the noise that comes from outside The staff are friendly, but only one person speaks English really well and he isn't always there, but you'll still be able to communicate with the other staff even if you know little Spanish. The only negative I can think of is that the WiFi wasn't that fast All in all, Hostal Oriente definitely exceeded my expectations, I was expecting a shabby hostel and that's not what I got, so I'd definitely come back.

Decent but noisy area.

A cheap and cheerless slightly cramped single room. The walls were very thin, could hear guests talking next door. Toilet chain fell off and shower door was nearly hanging off (mended both myself). During my second night there was a drunk person in the street or foyer (but sounded closer) banging doors and swearing, trying to break in! He kept it up for at least 40 minutes too! Very close to tourist centre so expected some noise but that was excessive.

We were very surprised of this great location and how clean it was. Excellent hotel all around.

Great Location

Great value for money. If looking for an inexpensive hotel, clean rooms, with Wi-Fi connection in a great location, then this is a good choice The staff are very polite and quite professional. As mentioned it is in a great location in the center of Madrid. Almost opposite Isabel II plaza , it is a five minute walk to Plaza Del Sol. Although there are no laundry facilities there is a laundromat within a two minute walk. It is close to two Metro stations and a taxi stand at Plaza Isabel II. The hotel is close to Madrid Segway and is situated on the pedestrian precinct Calle de Arenal. There were a few minor problems such as the Wi-Fi signal being weak at times , plus one gentleman on the front desk could not speak any English. On occasion, one could hear the television in the next room on account of the walls being a little thin. All things considered, it was a good experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Nice hotel in fantastic location.

This hotel was located right by the Opera and walkable to everything in the old town, from the Palace to Gran Via to the Prado. Even to the Atocha train station, although if you have luggage, you might want to grab the Metro to Sol. You have to keep your eye out for the entrance or you'll miss it. You buzz in and then take the lift to the first floor where reception is. The room was quite comfortable and had a little hallway where the closet and bathroom were, so you had an additional door to buffer hallway noise. You WILL here noise coming from the plaza outside It was a small price to have such a great location. A small downside was you had to pay a euro each time you used the small safe in the room. Also, over three days, I could not for the life of me figure out how to adjust the radiator. Fortunately my son climbed a chair and was able to turn on the A/C unit (which worked wonderfully but a pity to have to use in March!). For two days, the internet connection was flawless; however, the third day was not good at all :(

Few days in Madrid

We spent 3 nights in the Hostal Oriente, it was a very pleasant stay. The location is excellent beside the metro, but so easy to walk to many landmarks. We were given a room at the back overlooking an internal courtyard, not a scenic view but really quiet. The room and ensuite were spotless and we had fresh towels every day. Stafff were cheerful and helpful. Right next door there was a cafe for breakfasts. On our last day we left our bags for a few hours. Overall the Hostal Oriente represents excellent value, in a good location , we have no hesitation in recommending and would be happy to stay there again

Annoying night at Hotel Oriente

Don't come here if you want to work, or use the internet for any other reason. The wifi was bust, and all efforts to get them to repair it were rebuffed. It turned out the internet had been broken all week. When I suggested to the manager that they should warn customers beforehand and not advertise "hotel with internet," he threw me out of the building! All very Fawlty Towers.
