The pool and beach setting were incredible, the room was spacious and had nice amenitys, the beds were comfy and balconys had a stunning view. We upgraded to half board when we arrived, breakfast had lots of options, dinner was always really high quality food, however the amount offered did seem to depend on how many people were in the hotel at the time.

It was an amazing stay with my parents and my grand mother. Good access, nice pool, beautiful sun sets and most importantly, excellent service. Can improve on extra bed (for a triple room) and better range with the breakfast buffet (need sea food)

Me & my husband stayed at Ahungalla resort for 5days and we had an amazing experience. It was a memorable holiday. Initially we booked room only but upgraded to half board on arrival which was the best decision. Food was great and had lots of choices. Overall great place to relax 😊

Arrival at Heritance - This is a very positive experience. You are welcomed with refreshments, a friendly smile and seamlessly checked in. The staff are lovely and will do everything. It is an old building which has been modernised with wide open corridors and spacious rooms which are clean. The bathroom is good quality and clean. We were so pleased that the shower had a hose in addition to fixed shower head. Pool - two pools both very clean with heaps of space to lounge You don’t need to leave the pool, staff cater for you with food and drink requests are well priced. Beach - the beach is sandy but we did not not swim because our travel is in the monsoon season and sea is rough. We didn’t feel we were missing much because the pool area was so good. Food - there’s a reasonably priced cafe with lots of options. They will actually make what ever you need work and are very flexible. There’s a pool bar and the Buffet is brilliant. With the exception of one night we ate at the buffet every evening. We were very impressed by it. There is lots of cultural options. We had gluten free requirements and this was easily accommodated. Staff - The staff are standouts. They are clearly well trained and their professionalism is indicative of good culture and leadership within the Resort. I can’t speak highly enough. Our late checkout was accommodated even though they were extremely busy.

We love the peaceful setting, the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble.

The property is well laid out and has one of the cleanest beaches. Although F&B department could do better

Unfortunately, we could only stay one night at this fabulous hotel due to the end of our vacation. The hotel offers spacious, clean rooms with all the amenities you could need. The food was excellent, featuring a great variety and selection. The pool area is huge and very inviting. We regret not planning a longer stay in Bentota, especially at this hotel. We will definitely come back to this place for a longer visit next time! we

3 1/2 Star

The property is showing its age and they are currently renovating which is good. The property windows to the restaurant were dirty and unclean which was disappointing having 2 days of breakfast and Dinner there. The location was good with easy access to the beach and appeared to be clean of rubbish. The facilities are in bad condition expect for the pools, I would rate this property as 3 1/2 Stay which was disappointing after staying at the Hertiance Kandalama

Celebrated earth day with Air full of Kerosene

We were unfortunate to stay at this hotel on a day that they celebrated the Earth Day in 2023. We love, encourage, and actively participate in similar programs. The problem was, how the hotel management went about the celebration and their lack of planning. Hotel management decided to shut all electrical lights in the downstairs lobby area, then lighted kerosene torches. There were so may kerosene torches lit all over the area (including bar, near pool etc.) and the smell was unbearable, air was unbreathable. Add 100C temperature and humidity to the situation and it was absolute hell. What was the point of this stupid show? They probably added more pollutant to the air by burning all the kerosine for few hours than the greenhouse gases emitted to generate electricity. Stupidity at its best was in display at Heritance Ahungalla on 3/23/23.

Excellent location with 2 large swimming pool overlooking the beach. Plenty of beach chairs and the pool staff made sure that we stay comfortably in the shade enjoying the sea view. We stayed on all inclusive package and lots of choices of tasty food were available throughout the day. Excellent customer services by Shanduni, Varuni from the restaurant, Prasanna -cleaning staff, Raju from the bar. We will highly recommend this resort and definitely stay again on our next visit to Sri Lanka.

Excellent facilities. Nice clean hotel. We were upgraded. Dhananjay the hotel manager was very friendly.

Beautifully positioned with well-serviced rooms and exceptionally attentive staff the hotel is certainly worth a visit. We were well looked after throughout our stay and would certainly return.

Need some work and service upgrade!

When I checked in there was a congratulation cake on the coffee table. I told them it was not mine. They came and moved it to the other room. That’s a Covid protocol violation. Toilet did not flush well at all. After using it I had to flush it at least 4 times. Hotel is beautiful. Average service. Nice swimming pool and the pool staff is nice.

Friendly staff. Nice range of drinks. Good security. Excellent crabs and prawns for dinners.

Quiet & luxury

Big spacious hotel (with dead spaces, such a never opened bars or long empty corridors). Very good room with good AC and the sound of the waves to put you to sleep. 2 big pools: the blue one with sea view and the green one, more secluded with overhanging tree and visiting birds. Food was excellent from the breakfast hoppers to the dinner's curries. Weird system of pool loungers not furnished with cushions & having to request a pool towel rather than helping yourselves meant having to wait quite a bit for the pool attendant on occasion. The sea is not very quiet, even in 'high' season. It is shallow for a good 10/15 metres so can be enjoyed anyway but non-confident swimmers might find the waves off-putting.

The worst service and hospitality so far in SL

The service is really bad. If it were not designed by Bawa, I will never visit it. Dont waste your time. Jetwing Lighthouse is much better.

An OK stay

A brief holiday - the property is old but the service is good and the food is just about OK. Once you are in the resort its very tough to get out to the town. So plan to stay in the resort if you are booking this property. The service is fine, staff friendly and the amenities are good.

Grand hotel location grand only

Hotel was in a very good location colonial style very beautiful setting but the rooms need upgrading especially the bathroom. We had half board breakfast and dinner excellent staff also very accommodating.

Nice hotel on the beach

The hotel staff was extremely helpful. The room was very comfortable. I just wish they had more options for breakfast and dinner other than a buffet.

Right on the beach in lovely surroundings

Nice rooms with great bathrooms - most with stand alone showers. Some with bath and separate showers. 2 large outdoor pools, great meal selections and theme buffet dinners - changed nightly. Lovely Balinese spa treatment rooms. Sandy beach is lovely, although too rough to go swimming as life guards do not patrol. Good for couples, families, groups and singles too.

unfortunate checkout

checkout was terrible; i had pre-paid for my reservation but the hotel flatly denied this multiple times. i had to call hotels.com for help. service was not great. hotel is in a nice location.

Awesome location fantastic breakfast

We really enjoyed our stay here and were quite impressed when they offered to make us baby food for our baby. I highly recommend this hotel for families

Service needs to be fixed up...

Our stay at this hotel was not off to a great start. Our booking details was not available upon check in and had trouble checking in. Provided additional bed was small and not worth the cost of the room. Hotel was clean but service from staff was lacking, slow to respond and deal with matters. Room lighting was really bad, very dark and dim. The view from the room on the other hand was beautiful. The room was clean. Room service food was not great...

The hotel was beautiful. The only "negative" was that they didnt have our hotels.com reservation. we had to forward them the confirmation email we received. We didnt end up getting the room that we paid for.

Totally Relaxing!

Very quite hotel as it's away from the main road. Hotel was fully booked out but there was hardly anyone in the pools or at the beach all day. It's easy to find your own quite space around the beautiful grounds. Unfortunately there was not much lighting at night otherwise we would have made more use of it. The pools are really nice and clean. Entire staff was super friendly and efficient. The buffet was amazing with different curries offered every day. We got offered specially prepared dishes by award-winning chef Manjula which were delicious. We thought the hotel could do with a refurb which it is going to get this year, so it will be even more stunning by the end of the year (hope there will be better ventilation in the shower).....

Wonderful hotel, no need to leave

Beautiful hotel with a great beach and pool. The grounds were very well kept and the pool areas were clean and well attended to. The beach is also wonderful, beautiful sand and water. The rooms were great, quiet, and a very comfortable bed. Shower was nice and had hot water. We had an issue with service for dinner one night, so eat at the regular restaurant and not the pool side bar.

Beautiful Hotel

Beautiful hotel building and ambiance. Very comfortable room (deluxe sea view) on third floor. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Two large swimming pools so it never seems crowded.

Exquisitely designed hotel with big pools

The hotel is beautifully designed by architect Geoffrey Bawa. The pools are great and the food is very good.

Very noisy hotel

Overall, I would say this in a three star hotel in European standards. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, however the wooden flooring makes the rooms very echoey. If you are a light sleeper you will wake up as you can hear pretty much every noise from the rooms upstairs. Also, the corridors have stone floors so you will hear people waking by and the noise of room service trolleys in the morning. The hotel is situated in a remote area which doesn't cater for tourists. You are limited to hotel's restaurants which are expensive. There is one more restaurant on the beach. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Nice hotel, , nice pools, very clean

Everything was fine, except one thing.Our request was two rooms, adjacent on to another, but they was not provided on the first night, even though it was confirmed to us over the phone. On the next day we were given rooms as per our request in the booking and from than on everything was absolutely perfect

My hotel disaster

WE ARRIVED AT OUR HOTEL HAVING RECEIVED EMAIL CONFIRMATION OF OUR ONLINE BOOKING FROM HOTELS.COM. THE HOTEL CLAIMED IT HAD NO RECORD OF OUR BOOKING AND AFTER OVER AN HOUR ON THE PHONE TO. HOTELS.COM IT EMERGED THAT HOTELS.COM HAD SENT THE RESERVATION TO THE HOTEL BUT THE HOTEL WAS OVERBOOKED AND NEVER COM UNICATED THIS TO HOTELS.COM. HOTELS.COM AGREED TO REFUN D OUR MONEY (WHICH 6 days later I AM STILL WAITING ON CONFIRMATION THAT THAT THE REFUND IS BEING PROCESSED) AND TO GIVE US TWO VOUCHERS FOR £70 each (WHICH WE STILL WAIT TO RECEIVE). THE FRONT OFFICE LADY AT THE HOTEL COULD NOT HAVE BEEN LESS HELPFUL IF SHE TRIED AND IGNORING THE FACT THAT MY WIFE AND I AND OUR FAMILY WERE COMPLETELY STRANDEDWITHOUT ACCOMMODATION IN SRI LANKA SHE WENT ON CONSISTENTLY ABOUT HOW THIS WAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOTEL. THERE WAS A TRAINEE EXECUTIVE ON DUTY WHO AT LEAST OFFERED US SOMETHING TO EAT AND WAS MUCH MORE EMPATHETIC. IN ALL MY YEARS OF TRAVEL I HAVE NEVER FELT SO STRESSED AND I WOULD NOT TOUCH THIS HOTEL WITH A BARGE POLE IF IT WERE THE LAST HOTEL ON EARTH. TAKE MY ADVICEAND AVOID HERITANCE AHANGULLA LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEY ARE COMPLETELY INEPT, UTTERLY RUDE AND THERE IS NO CHANCE THAT YOUR CONFIRMEDBOOKING MEANS ANYTHING TO THEM.

Beautiful Hotel!

The Hotel is beautiful, with perfect views of the beach.. The only negative for the hotel is the "beach boys" the people trying to sell you items on the beach, they are annoying when your trying to relax. Food from the restaurants is delicious! U won't go wrong.. Not much to do around the hotel.. It's pretty much a place to lounge around the pool. The hotel has 2 huge pools.. Lots of space to swim..

Nice room needs better service

Hotel was good service could be better specially when it comes down to coffee place or a la carte. Where the food seems like it's microwaved. Bags took 20 minutes to come down besides that hotel is good room is good. Buffet is nice and location is excellent.

Very considerate staff and beautiful location

Not only were the rooms great value for money; from the moment we got to the hotel we had the feeling that the hotel staff were genuinely pleased to see us. We were travelling off season, so the hotel was not overly busy during our stay. The room was excellent and so were both the swimming pools. The food was exquisite; but what impressed us the most was the hotel staff and chefs willingness to accommodate our alteration to the menu. We are fussy eaters and the hotel was more than happy to adjust things for us. (Like toning down the spices) They even provided my girlfriend with unlimited cups of ginger tea for free when they found out that she had a bit of a cold.

Disconnecting

If you are exhausted and over loaded then you must go to Heritance hotel which located in a very quite village called Ahungalla, 3 hours driving from colombo. The hotel offers a safe and beautiful place that can you and your family enjoy every moment.

Overall I would highly recommend

The room on arrival was a let down, I'd. Booked a triple room, expecting a fair sized room for my family to find a small room which wasn't 5 star, decided to upgrade to a luxury room which cost an extra 25% but was well worth it, lots of room and in a great location, it was perfect. The staff here are incredible, the service is exceptional. On arrival you are welcomed like royalty and this level of service continued until we left 8 days later. One other let down is the beautiful beach being spoilt by the shameless beach hawkers, one inperticular Charlie
