Nice small hotel close to the beach, town and bars etc. Nice pool and bar area and food is good (we had to pay extra for breakfast). Ideal for a short break, the hotel arranged turtle swimming for us and can organise many other trips, also Spa on site. We had travelled from Tissa and first impressions here was that Marissa was very touristy and the route to the “secret beach” is a rubbish strewn dirt track, however once we settled in, we enjoyed the area.

Handagedara Stay

Lovely hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Located a few minutes from the beach and lots of lovely restaurants. Rooms are a great size. Only negative was a very noisy peacock living close by, but we had ear plugs so it didn't disrupt our stay. Great breakfast with lots to choose from.

Very nice property that was close to the beach and great restaurants. The pool was amazing and we would definitely stay again.

Staff were very friendly. Pool is beautiful with lounge chairs. A/C was very good. Room was very clean with private balcony. Wifi spotty at times. Breakfast is good with a lovely location. Beach day is an easy walk (5 min.). Many good restaurants nearby.

Property highly recommended! The location was great. the pool too! The room very comfy and clean. The staff was amazing and very helpful! they had amazing recommendation (like a Spa and some shops), definitely follow their recommendation. The breakfast was cool too.

Very nice hotel close to the beach.

Lovely hotel only about 5mins walk to the beach. Breakfast was very good and the room a good size with a comfy bed. The staff were great and happy to help organise whale watching trips and taxi transfers.

Good location, short walk to beach and quiet. Lovely owner and hotel staff, aimed to make the stay memorable. Lovely rooms and pool area. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Sri Lanka, cooked on-site with a smile by the owner. Thank you :)

Very nice place with easy access to the beach with restaurants and cafes. Good welcome with warm and attentive staff . Breakfast in a nice setting overlooking the pool with friendly service. Staff were willing to assist you with tours and activities in surrounding area. Rooms big and very comfortable. In summary excellent value fir money and would strongly recommend to fellow travellers

Lovely smallish place with helpful staff

This colonial house hotel is in a great location - far enough from the noise of the beach but close enough to the action. The room was clean and had everything we needed, same for the rest of the hotel. All the rooms look onto the central pool which serves as a focal point to relax around whilst you're there.

Good Stay

The bed was amazingly comfortable! Room is fairly basic but very clean. Small resort so it is reasonably quiet. Breakfast had a great spread. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Gorgeous and perfect location

What a wonderful little hotel. Lovely cosy and comfortable rooms with a great pool and nice restaurant for a good breakfast to start your day. 2 minutes walk one way the amazing Mirissa beach with great bars and restaurants. 3 minutes the other way and your at the harbour for the must do whale watching. We were made to feel so welcome from the start and all the staff were so helpful and friendly. And all this for such an amazing price. I really could not fault this lovely boutique hotel.

Very good base for a stay just off the beach.

Not on the beach, but probably quieter because of that. Probably needed slightly better guidance about getting to the beach! Room and pool were great. Making up of room between our two nights was a little delayed, but we were allowed into it straight away on first arrival, despite being early. Good information on arrival. Bit odd that evening meals were not available as advised - supposedly just needed an hour's warning, but kitchen was closed by 1800 hrs on first night! Actually did us a favour because it was much more atmospheric to eat at one of the many beach restaurants. The fresh fish chosen there was delicious and easily enough for two people! Taxi on to Galle was a significantly higher price than quoted elsewhere. WiFi didn't work in the area of the rooms, but did work in reception area.

Great choice for couples!

Breakfast was AMAZING! This was one of our favourite accommodations during our 11-day trip in Sri Lanka. It’s out of the very touristy area in Mirissa, which was perfect for us (still within walking distance). Very nice facilities, except for the toilet which was a bit damp, but not a major issue for us. We would definitely stay again.

Pleasant stay, close to harbour for whale trip

A comfortable room, with good balcony. Pool good and breakfast great. 4 minutes walk to harbour for whale trip and 5 minutes walk to the beach.

Lovely hotel with excellent staff.

Stayed here to go on a whale watching trip which was very good and booked for us at the hotel with a pick up from the hotel. We went with Raja and the whales, very well organised and a good breakfast. Spacious, well appointed room.

Convenient hotel with friendly staff

The staff is super friendly and nice, they even let us choose our room! We enjoyed the stay and it was an easy walk to the beach where we spent most of our time... The pool was a nice addition, the AC worked perfectly

Nice Property but Fabulous is an Overstatement

The standard rooms are pretty tired, no in-room safe, no wifi connection; showers not well designed and will wet the toilet. The deluxe rooms were much newer but smaller; toilet was also small. Breakfast was included and pretty decent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Location is very near the beach.

Excelent!

Check in was great, the receptionist is the best! They served us cold pineapple juice and gave all the recommendation for our stay. Always worried if we were having fun and enjoying. Room is great, clean, safe, quiet. Best hotel I stayed in Sri Lanka.

Mirissa

Very near from the Harbour where whale watching excursions start from and very near from the beach. Small but nice swimming pool.

Close to beach and harbour.

The hotel is adequate and comfortable. Location is key, with short stroll to beach. Best place to eat lunch and dinner is zephyr on the beach. We only really used the hotel to sleep and spent the whole time on Mirissa beach. Other families were making use of the pool and loungers which seemed perfectly OK.

Great place to stay

This hotel was fabulous. The staff were so helpful and friendly. We stayed in a standard room and it was very pleasant. There was a double bed with a large mosquito net covering it. The air con worked well. The breakfast was varied and tasty. The pool was warm and refreshing. The beach is a couple of minutes down the road, look for the sign to 'secret beach'. There's beautiful views here and lots of places to eat. The best thing was the monkeys who kept popping into the garden and sometimes through the open roof and into the bathroom!

Bästa hotellet!

Otroligt bra service, god frukost och bra mat på deras meny, bra pool! Vi spenderade 3 nätter här i början av vår vistelse och valde att åka tillbaka sista dagarna för att bo här igen! Bästa stället vi bott på i hela Sri Lanka!

Ingenting å utsette på, fantastisk!

Fantastisk opphold. Personalet er svært behjelpelig og vennlige. Grunnet en misforståelse trodde hotellet at meg og min venninne at vi var tre, og vi fikk derfor familierom. Rommet var helt fantastisk med to senger, derav en stor king size med dobbeltdyne. Frokosten er enkel, men veldig god. De steker egg om du ønsker. God beliggenhet, med kort vei til stranden. Grunnet sent fly på dagen for utsjekk, fikk vi et eget rom der vi kunne ha bagasjen og kunne dusje etter å ha vært på stranden. Alt i alt et fantastisk overnattingssted på Sri Lanka.

Otroligt trevlig och hjälpsam ägare. Hon hjälpte oss med taxi och visade allt som Mirissa med omnejd kunde erbjuda.

Schöne Zimmer, modernes Bad, großer Pool, schöner Garten und Essensbereich. Frühstück weniger gut.

Hôtel très sympa et personnel super serviable

Meilleur hôtel qu’on ai fait au Sri Lanka. Personnel super, de bons conseils et toujours prêt à nous aider. Piscine magnifique et eau toujours chaude. Bons petits déjeuner. Nous avions une chambre au rdc, vu sur la piscine, le top.

Good hotel that would deserve some refurbishment

The room was not in the best shape and would certainly deserve some refurbishment. WiFi was ok and swimming pool as well. The breakfast was very good.

Great stay!

We had a great stay at Handagedara! The service was great and the owners were extremely helpful. They helped us arrange safari as well as transport to our next destination, and they also gave us a little snackpack for the safari. Room was clean and cute. The breakfast was served on a nice balcony with a view over the pool and green garden. However, breakfast was a bit disappointing. We expected more options from the buffet, both because it is called a buffet and also because the accommodation was more expansive than other hotels. This buffet was very similar to the things we got at other accommodations were a breakfast platter was served instead. The coffee could also have been much stronger. But overall, it was a great stay at Handagedara!

Schönes Hotel in Strandnähe

Sehr schönes Hotel, 5 Minuten Fußweg vom Strand. Sehr zuvorkommendes und herzliches Personal. Schöner Pool, tolles Frühstück. Sehr zu empfehlen!!!

En besvikelse

Tyvärr blev det en dålig avslutning på vår sri lanka resa. Bokningen sa "garden view" men vi tittade ut mot en 2,5 meter hög betongmur. Klagade och erbjöds alternativa rum dagen efter men ingen utsikt där heller.

Hotel agradable, personal muy atento y amable. Para disfrutar de unos días de playa es perfecto. La playa se encuentra a unos 5min caminando. La piscina está bien

Nettes kleines Resort, Strand ist in 5 Minuten fußläufig zu erreichen. Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis paßt.

Great Pool, Near Beach, Awesome Service !!!

We stayed for 10 days and had a great time. Walk to the beach: 5 Minutes. Galle by tuk tuk: 45 min. The Hotel is nice, clean and the staff is one of the best! I would definately come back.

Sehr schönes, modernes Hotel in Strandnähe

schöne Zimmer (am besten Deluxe-Zimmer buchen, da mit schönem Balkon zum Pool). nettes Personal, super Frühstücksbuffet. In ca. 4 Minuten ist man zu Fuß am Strand.

Excellent hôtel à 5 minutes à pied de la plage.

Excellent séjour dans cet hôtel. Idéalement situé à 5 minutes à pied de la plage, dans une rue calme, évitant ainsi le bruit des bars et restaurants. Il dispose d'un jardin et d'une belle piscine avec un personnel très agréable et à l'écoute des besoins. La chambre est joliement décorée, propre et spacieuse. Bon rapport qualité/prix à Mirissa.

Nice hotel but poor communication between staff

We stayed here for a night & checked out early in the next day for whale watching. Breakfast for taken away was only biscuit and 2 bananas. Location is good and near to beach. Room was comfortable with hot shower. Hotel staffs were nice but poor communication between them. We called the hotel the day before we check-in and asked for an extra room for our driver, the staff told us we could pay a bit more and would arrange it for us. However, when we checked-in in the evening, the reception knew nothing & no arrangement was made. Finally, our driver had to find his accommodation nearby in a hurry that night.

Good standard and lovely service

Hotel has a good standard with first signs of wear in the bath room. Service is very friendly and helpful. Beach is 5 min by walk with nice café and bars. Pool is also fine and cleaned every day as the rest of the resort. Beach is better than in Weligama, but not recommended for surfing beginners
