Love this place.
I really loved staying at Gauthier's. The room was right on the lake, it had a spectacular view! The room was clean and the amenities were excellent! I look forward to staying there again in my travels.
I liked that they offered bbq grills, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards for guest use.
Front desk attendant was very nice and helpful. Other employees were friendly. Room was clean, beds were very comfortable, beautiful lakefront view. Room and furniture are dated, bathroom is small. No room service after first night of our two night stay
Average room.
Expensive for what it is. Need a refresh to bring it to the 21st century. Yucky bathroom/shower and mattress is the same one from 1975. Convenient if you need access to Saranac though. Quiet and safe location.
This is in a great are, close to everything. When staying there you feel like you’re not in town viewing the beautiful lake. They offer canoes and kayaks. It’s right across from a marina A great Mexican restaurant right across the street with a liquor store next-door, very convenient. The room was small, but sufficient for two people. The bed was comfortable. I would add shelving in the bathroom. Need more space for toiletries. The mornings were quiet and beautiful when the sun came up, lighting the mountains in the background. It was great for a weekend stay. Will come back.
absolutely gorgeous spot at the end of flower lake. We were happily surprised to see that kayaks and paddle boards were available and free for use on the lake. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Give us great guidance on where to hike and eat and familiarize us with the area.
Bath quite small.
Affordable and clean. Great Patio access from room to view Saranac Lake
beautiful and old fashioned affordable
It was a pleasant experience. Love staff's behaviour and professionalism.
Overall moderate stay at the property. Hotel seems to be old, rooms are of good size, but we faced problems with door locks, room lighting and AC. Some common places were not cleaned properly too. There is no restaurant at the hotel but there are others within 1-2 miles. You can order food at the hotel too. Staff seems to be less too, mostly we preferred DIY for anything needed. Hotel is situated at the lake side so, you can avail the kayak and small boats for free.
Nice place and convenient to down town.
This unexpectedly turned into a solo trip for me, I was really nervous, it was my first solo trip and as a female it can be scary. But I felt safe there, I could enjoy my time, my room was so nice and perfect, it was everything I needed. The kayaks were super convenient to put in and take out if the water. The man at the front desk was so nice, and I will absolutely be back and recommend it to anyone staying in the area.
Needs more work
I really wanted to like this place. I’m fine with retro vibe until it goes south. Location-great! Right on the water, and we took a canoe out for a two hour paddle. Killer sunsets. Life jackets- not safe, old and broken. Room: please remove the following in room 33: moldy shower curtain, chipped drinking glass, sinking old chairs that have my chin right at the level of the table. Also, you’re not eco friendly if you have single use soaps and shampoos. Please go to a flea market and find a shelf for the bathroom, and seating for more than two people if you have a room that can accommodate four. I’ve stayed in other retro hotels (see Bend, OR) and they know what to keep and what to replace.
Overall a great experience. Many amenities kayaking paddle boarding tennis outdoor pool very clean biking. One downfall stayed 2 nights and no clean towels and floors were quite gritty
Nice motel on Lake Flower. We have stayed there several times. Staff is very nice. Rooms are very spacious.
Nice quiet location. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Great view off the back porch.
Great location, friendly staff. Clean and nicely decorated. Right beside the water which was nice to relax beside and have a drink.
Quiet, and safe -plenty of things to stay busy😊
Bed ok. Bathroom sink didn’t drain. Could use some updating.
Ok Hotel
It's an ok hotel. Its a bit of an old place and could use some TLC. Very small hotel grounds on the lake. Great view of sunset if you the the rooms with patio or balcony. Free canoes life vests etc.
Views of the lake were great as were the staff, super friendly and helpful. Good free amenities to enjoy the outdoors. The room could be a bit more functional with the addition of a small dining table or desk - there was plenty of room for it. Also the bathroom could use some updating.
The property is very clean and peaceful. I love the free kayak 😍😍😍😍
My fantasy Island
We love it here. A very old hotel but staff could not be more accomidating. We go as often as we can to enjoy the boats (which are free) and the scenery. They have a good ice machine and each room has a microwave and small fridge. Close to hood Mexican and chinese restaurants as well as a brewery and grocery store. Dunkin and McDonalds right there too.
Friendly staff! Room was good size with comfortable bed with lots of pillows. Convenient location. Would stay again and would recommend
Clean, comfortable, and restful.
The shower didn’t have a shower head… the beds were wet and dirty .. you could visibly see dirt and hair from previous guests… it was a very horrible experience to say the least for $400
Enjoyed our stay. An older family owned property but very comfortable and right on the lake waterfront !!! Walking distance to restaurants and shopping.
Great view and lots of fun activities. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
Beds were comfortable. Water pressure very good. The place is old and shows it. Staff was pleasant. Convenient location. Fuse blew in the bathroom so no lights, but management, quick fix. No refrigerator.
It’s ok
The stay with my 3 kids was ok. Staff was very friendly and the view was great. The beds were not comfortable at all and I wish the floors had been cleaner in the room. Yes it’s outdated and could use a little remodeling.
Room needs updating.
Saranac Lake is a village of some charm. The desk person was helpful and accommodations wete pleasant.
Nice, clean little motel
As always, this is such a great place to hang out. I love that you can grab a kayak in the morning and kayak around Saranac Lake. It's very friendly and clean. We stayed the second time and will come back.
Accommodating Host and great stay
Stay was great. Host allowed us to use free kayaks which were really great to use on the lake, and room, while simple, was clean and comfortable. Host is very accommodating as he allowed us to park our car in the parking lot a day before our scheduled arrival so we could camp.
Great room and viw
Friendly staff and great area
Great place to stay.
A clean, charming, well run and friendly place to stay. The staff are friendly and helpful in many areas, including local activities. Boats to paddle and bicycles are available to all at no charge. Very handy to town and nearby activities. We’ve been visiting the Adirondacks for over 50 years and love this place.
It is nothing like the pictures, it’s clear that some pictures are of more updated rooms. We stayed in rooms with awful lights, ridiculous furniture… for $310 a night it’s a very very crappy room. There is mold in the shower and the bathrooms are not even 4 feet wide. It is lake facing but we got the basement like lake facing rooms and the last room which is really not finished
Owners are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful view from property and perks such as bikes, canoes and kayaks available for guests
This was an awesome place- reasonable cost , on the lake, very nice room, amenities great…everything fantastic
It was great having Kayaks available for exploring.
Nice spot on a lake, but rather uncomfortable mattress sticking lock and constantly dripping shower head. Not overly generous with the kurig pods, told to help ourselves but the office was locked in the am so if you’re an early riser….
The property is nice, clean rooms but the plumbing, etc. is a bit dated. The rooms could be updated. The location is great, the access to bikes and canoes is a plus and the staff was really nice!
Very nice. Friendly staff. Beautiful setting
Very nice!
We loves it here! It was very nice. Great view of the lake and beautiful room. The bathroom sink was clogged and the coffee tasted awful, but i would still go back bc the room and furniture and location was gorgeous!
A great place to stay
We have stayed here several times while visiting the Lake Placid area, and we love it! The staff is very friendly and accommodating, they have kayaks, canoes, life jackets -all free for use, and I saw many guests using them throughout their stay. It's right on the lake, with easy access for boating. A short paddle away provides you with breathtaking views of the high peaks. The hotel itself is a little dated (but lovely and well tended, and reminiscent of an earlier time), and the facilities are really not up to today's standards. If you are looking for luxury, this isn't the place for you, but if you are looking for a family friendly place to stay, it's great. We prefer this family run hotel to the larger luxury hotels anytime!
Have to say, service was better than expected. The woman at the front desk was extremely accommodating and informative. Room was extremely clean, Would definitely recommend.
Overall, nice hotel with a beautiful view! They offer free access to bikes and kayaks which was great! The bathrooms are very tiny and there aren’t many outlets in the rooms. The staff were very kind and helpful.

Great location.
Generally clean motel room but extremely small space and not much privacy. I expected much more for the price, which was evidently jacked at least 2x typical for a nice clean motel in peak tourist season. I thought the amenities would be worth it. But instead got 'free concert' from neighbor playing guitar and singing into the night and then peeing off the balcony in the morning. The room did not have enough space for 4 adults and bathroom had zero space. Just enough room to walk in and turn around. Hard to change clothes without bumping into everything and limited space to hang towels or clothes. No shelf on sink to place toothbrush and no shelf in shower to place soap or hang wash cloth. Only 2 of the 5 or 6 adult bikes were working. Others had broken seat, missing pedal, flat tire, etc. Not what i expected for over 400/night.
The kayaks, paddleboat, paddle boards and canoes were get and readily available. There were lifejackets available as well. The lake side room was on the small size and so was the bathroom.
Kayaks made our stay: both mornings we headed out on a nice paddle in a tandem sit-on-top kayak, then sat by the water's edge to have a coffee. It was also nice that the office wasn't stingy about extra coffee/tea pods, we could replenish at will.
Very nice property and so many free options for the guests, fishing, kayaking, biking….
This was a cute motel with friendly staff and great amenities. It is located within walking or paddling distance of down town with serene views of the lake.
Amanda at the front desk has gone above and beyond both times i stayed, I'll keep staying with them on the weekends I work.
Coffee equipment is old and poorly maintained. Communal appliances like microwave and water heater/cooler. Sheets were dirty. Not recommended.
Great location, access to the Lake, Mexican restaurant accross the street. Perfect!
We will definitely be back!
The doors don’t properly lock and are very thing. The bed sizes online are not accurate. The lake view isn’t actually pointed towards the lake
We were very disappointed in what was supposed to be a deluxe lake front double room. Our room was nothing like the pictures from the website. The tile floor was filthy. There were only 2 wooden kitchen chairs to sit on, no table, the tv was sitting on a countertop, and the top of the dresser had only enough room for the lamp and coffee maker and ice bucket. There was not enough room for us to set stuff on. The bathroom was very small, the door would not open all the way and the shower curtain had mildew on it. The curtains would not close all the way, we needed to use a chip clip to keep them closed. We were woken twice to a dripping noise. The only nice thing was the view and that was partially blocked by marina next door. We don’t recommend this place.
Hotels.com error in judgement
Not a nice place….. Old and dirty … Can’t valise bathroom door , shower/ tub is awful, dirty, old as are the knobs to control the water ….We haven’t stayed in a place like this EVER !! How could this dump be rated an 8 ????????! C’mon Man get real and go take a look at it ! View of lake is good ! Lol
Unsatisfactory
The stay was terrible the beds were absolutely hard they're probably 40 years old, the bathroom was nasty didn't even want a shower there because of the way the bath tub looked
Great place to stay while hiking the Adirondacks.
Check in was great. Staff was so friendly and made us feel very welcoming. She gave me a quick tour. I was impressed. The rooms were good for us as we were just stopping to sleep. They could use an update but they had what they needed, a keurig was a definite plus!
Such a beautiful facility with very friendly staff. Will be stopping again
Room was spacious and very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. The view of the lake was incredible and having kayaks easily available made our stay perfect!!!
Good
older hotel
It's an older hotel, shower stall was a bit sketchy, but desk clerk very helpful, bed was clean and comfortable, room heater worked good. If the weather was better they have bicycles, paddle boats & boards, kayaks and lifejackets there free for use.
Friendly Staff and very clean room.
All about location
Our stay was good . The location is a 10 . Right on the water with free use of kayaks and canoes and bicycles. Accommodations were good. Friendly staff
The staff were courteous and helpful. The location on Lake Flower is ok, but looks at a marina and right next to Rt 86. They offer a wide selection of paddle craft to use at no charge. This is an older motel with small rooms, tiny bathrooms and showing it’s age. The rooms were disappointing especially for the price tag which was outrageous.
Everything is great its clean, you can have kayaks bike other things use anytime also people coming here looking for quite places still great places to stay with kids a lot to explore around
Pleasant and enjoyable.
Good, comfortable
Sweet spot on Saranac!
Clean, honest, well-located, fun! Kayaking here was a highlight of our trip. A dip in the pool, bike ride down the road to the ice cream shop, sunset at the Gauthier shore- all great. Impressed by numerous efforts to operate an inn in ecologically responsible ways (water-saving showerheads, reduction of plastic waste, et al).
Brutal. Not as advertised
On the water, lake views, kayaks , walking distance to town. Old place with few upgrades. Small rooms.
Lots of bonuses to take advantage of around the property. We used the free bikes and the free tennis courts as well as their swimming pool. Great view on the lake, excellent customer service!!
great site and amenities
We had a great time here. The kayaks and canoes were a great plus. Super chill staff and the motel is right on the water. Wonderful memories were made here including my seven year-old learning to kayak on his own. The price was also right. The bad reviews are clearly from haters. Don’t be put off by them. This place is the best.
Pretty location on the lake. Kids enjoyed their kayaks. Bathroom door wouldn’t stay closed. The slider to the deck did not lock. Mostly enjoyed the place though. But it’s not too fancy.
Excellent stay at a beautiful location on the lake!
they offered a lot of daily extras to enjoy the lake and your time there.
Access to free canoes, paddle boats and kyacks, life preservers. Room and view of the lake was terrific. Facilities in the room needed some attention, toilet seat did not stay up, shower doors loose. Need to consider lattice work between the balconies, otherwise great place and would stay again.
This is a good. place for a family to expose their kids to water activities for the fist time. Safe and controlled, the lake is easy to navigate.
Bathroom was unacceptably small. No housekeeping so no clean towels etc and pricey for absolutely no service after check-in
Had a balcony … only decent thing about the room … very outdated and shabby .. ceiling had water damage and peeling paint …
We booked a “Deluxe Double” room with a lake view (and terrace) on Expedia earlier in the week, hoping to enjoy a much-needed vacation. The room that was advertised on Expedia was beautiful - with carpeting, sweeping lake views, and a terrace. What we got was a converted basement garage room with no patio, a limited lake view, stained chairs, and a duck-taped broken A/C. When we complained nicely to the staff, we were told that we needed to pay an additional $130 to get the room that we had already booked. When we spoke directly to the owner, Daniel Brownwell, he was nasty, abusive, and threatening: “I am the owner, and I can be as disrespectful as I want.” He refused to refund our money, and so we left feeling humiliated and bullied. I think that you should be aware of the misleading scam that is advertised on Expedia, and the abusive owner. From what have learned from the Chamber of Commerce, he has a reputation in town for being toxic and disrespectful. Plus, he is price gauging - he put us in the room where his mother-in-law lived to up the price for our room and re-advertise via Expedia.
They have kayaking and bicycles available for everyone to use.
Throw back motel with great location & amenities
The amenities at the resort are fantastic. We enjoyed the kayaks & bikes. The location is great, on the lake, beautiful sunset, plenty of chairs to enjoy. The restaurants within walking distance are good. Aldi is also within walking distance. The staff is very friendly, provided a tour upon arrival. Motel location is ideal, in Saranac Lake and very close to Lake Placid. The negative would be the beds, they are very uncomfortable and need to be replaced. Otherwise the room condition was fine, exactly as expected, not a new hotel, but clean. The tile flooring was a great feature (so much better than carpet). There is also an abundance of goose droppings, but I believe that these are picked up as much as possible. Book this hotel for the amenities & the location. It is an older motel, but we had a great time and enjoyed our time.
Lovely property! Kayaks boats and paddle boards for use right next to the lake. Friendly staff. Basketball hoops. Breakfast/lunch place across the street. Can't wait to go back!
The price I paid for the room I got was way out of balance. But I enjoyed my stay and the place is right on the lake with a balcony. I’d go back for sure.
It was great to take the kayaks out. But Expedia said there was a pool, but it was not open. I would have stayed at a different place with a pool. So Expedia had false advertisement. That made me very disappointed.

Good option with a great view
