What a well appointed rook. The jacuzzi tub was a highlight. The front grass area with the walkway and chairs was great.

At first l thought this going to be bad , but the check in was flawless. The room was extremely nice. Sitting outside watching the sunset and clouds flowing through the mountains was so refreshing. The stars were incredible. Finally the breakfast granola choices were excellent. Ate twice. 5star

Property was located a few kilometers north of town. Lovely view out the back of the complex over a green pasture and pond. Room was spacious with Scandinavian style architecture and furniture. Center of the complex held the reception desk and breakfast buffet tables. You can sit outside on the deck

This hotel is a lot further out from town than I expected and it is not walkable to the town of Frans Josef. BUT, the view is spectacular and the rooms were great. Would definitely recommend someone staying at the hotel as long as they had a vehicle which I did not due to me arriving with a tour group.

This was probably our favorite place to stay in New Zealand. It's out of town so you definitely need a car, but the rooms are HUGE and modern and comfortable and immaculate. Unbelievably quiet at night. Breakfast was fantastic, fresh and delicious with a nice variety. The person who managed check-in was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Brand new gorgeous, quiet place to stay!

The place was beautiful. Lived up to expectations. I did check in late, and they had taped an envelope with my name to the reception door. Inside the envelope was a key and welcome letter. The letter was informative, but had no obvious notation of my room number. I was perplexed, and unsure of what to do. Thinking it may have been an oversight, I checked a couple of obviously unoccupied rooms, trying my key. This did not work. Upon re-examining the letter, I noticed two small hash marks at the top of the page in the center. There was no other information. Marks were small, but I read them as 11. I checked around and found a room 11, and this indeed was my room. It would have been helpful if they had just written the word ROOM before the hash marks as to me, the hash marks were not obvious as a room number.

It is a brand new hotel, provide wonderful breakfast!

Yes, I would return!! You will need a car as a few minutes outside of town but worth the drive. In my case, enjoy the two staff members (German) as they provide superior customer service. They do provide a decent breakfast of boiled eggs, cheese, meat, cereal, fruit, yogurt and coffee!!! Found the rooms large for the area, nice bathroom, and great bed. I had a great stay

Beautiful location and condition

Great accommodation. Looked very new and clean. Located a couple of kms out of town so very quiet and peaceful. Included continental breakfast. Overall rate highly. Suggestion to have background music in restaurant area to give it some atmosphere.

This is a very comfortable motel style hotel with spacious, clean, modern rooms and a limited breakfast included in the room price. It is outside Franz Josef itself so as there is no restaurant a drive into the resort town itself is required for dining. Some rooms have great views of the mountains (sadly ours wasn’t one of them!)

Beautiful, spacious, bright room. Very comfortable bed and lovely spa in the bathroom. The gardens and views are spectacular. Staff are very polite, friendly, and informative. Breakfast was great as well. Highly recommended!

A little bit out of town so requires driving to restaurants and shops. Very clean and quiet. Enjoyed the continental breakfast provided.

Far and away my favorite place I stayed in New Zealand. We arrived after check-in, but they were super accommodating and kind when we called. The rooms were so spacious and nice, I wish we stayed longer. Exactly the place you want to land if you have spent a long day traveling. The breakfast was also delicious, and the folks working there were very kind and helpful when we had questions about the area.

Clean property, spacious room and very nice breakfast. Our room looked out over the lawn and pond, however, because the walkway for the rooms is right next to the building, curtains need to be closed for privacy. This diminished the property and surrounding area significantly. There was no A/C, just a small fan, and the windows could not be kept open because there are no screens. Overall, we did not feel it lived up to the hype.

Disappointing. The value was lacking. No A/C, which is fine in a cool climate, but no windows, or screen door to provide ventilation. The "jetted tub" was pointless, as if from the 90's. There was no visible staff, aside from the ad who checked me in, and the others providing the continental breakfast. I could smell the sewage in the bathroom. The TV was programmed to be quiet. The wifi was deplorable. At least the king twin conversion was comfortable. The only saving grace. I would never stay here again.

Enjoyable stay but a number of issues

The premium, spa bath room we had was spacious and very clean with modern furniture, but being on the edge of the property this room plus some others had no opening windows and there was no air conditioning. A fan had been provided but the room was hot and airless at night. Being on the ground floor the sliding opening door could not be left open due to security. The continental breakfast was adequate but only available between 8-9am. Though it advertised satellite TV, only the standard free view channels were available. Also be aware the property is out of town and a car needed to access restaurants.

No AC so had to open window. Otherwise room was excellent. Loved the breakfast. Quiet.

Away from town just a little, but easy to get to. Town had a lot of people and this place was really quiet.

This was a wonderful room, perfect for the stay we had. It was out of town so we used the car to get food. Breakfast was included and very nice selection of things to eat. The outside of the place does not do the inside justice. Super clean modern looking furniture etc in the room. Really relaxing night

Very disappointed. Room smelled moldy and aggravated my allergies.. but no Kleenex available. Food crumbs on chairs and floor. Counter had food smears and fridge was flooded because it was turned down to lowest setting and had defrosted all over inside..bag of defrosted food in freezer compartment that I had to clean out before using it. Drawer that held coffee and biscuits had flies flying out of it when I opened it, so we didn’t use any of it. Bathtub needed a good scrubbing..but I didn’t get the mold ring off..Even hand soap container had visible dirt on it. All in all, embarrassing terrible.

Good

Nice and comfortable room. Nice scenery. Place was a little out of town. Make sure you have your own transportation or you might get stuck. Townspeople very nice, friendly and accommodating.

The staff was super nice and the breakfast was good. The room is very basic. We were told that only 4 rooms have AC. Our room did not have AC. It was hot and had mosquitoes bothering us all night. If you opened the window, more mosquitoes would come in since they have no screens. They had a small table fan in the room but we started sneezing after turning it on. We got very little sleep and checked out after one night.

This property is not actually in Franz Joseph but FJ is close by. It's lovely but a little sterile for my taste, very well cared for and nicely furnished. I wish we had had more time to enjoy the outside grounds. There's seating and lawns all around the property.

Spacious room & Yummy breakfast

Very spacious rooms with a lovely outlook. The included breakfast was excellent-lots of choice for a yummy breakfast. Definitely will stay again.

Clean, quiet, beautiful view, amazing staff.

Our room was gorgeous with incredible views, lovely toiletries, a really comfy bed and was cleaned and replenished daily. The fire made it really cosy in the evening and having a laundry was fab. Francesca was a super star. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Would strongly recommend.

Room was clean and nice. The only nit picky things are the toiletries and shower head. The bath gel was foaming bath wash and the shampoo was conditioning shampoo that wasnt very conditioning. A seperate hair conditioner would've been nice. The shower head was an aerating type. There's plenty of water pressure so the water is like being spayed with a hight pressure water hose.

Room is spacious and new. The only problem is that with large windows on two sides, it almost like a fish bowl with no privacy. breakfast is great but only for 1 hour.

Short drive from town. Nice continental breakfast spread. The place is over-priced. It felt like a motel. The ‘luxury’ rooms have no views. The website photos make the place look attractive. But they don’t tell you that only some of the rooms have that view.

We were a little disappointed we had to drive back 5 minutes to eat but the place was super nice room huge bed comfy and staff person was amazing would stay here again

Up market hotel on outskirts of town set in its own grounds. Rooms spacious and clean. Limited staff mean that front desk only open for a limited time. Breakfast options ok but not extensive.

Basic clean motel with complimentary continental breakfast and good bed.

Everything was as advertised. Simple and clean.

Reception is only open part time, WiFi wasn’t good, tv remotes didn’t work and since reception wasn’t open we couldn’t get these issues addressed. Aside from that, really great stay - clean, comfortable, friendly staff. Would recommend!

Lovely peaceful spot just outside Franz Joseph

Lovely stay in room 11, facing out back and the beautiful foothills. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was nice, the small fireplace was a fun surprise. Breakfast was simple but very good. We loved the yogurt and granola! The peaceful location is perfect!

A very quiet and comfortable place to stay. The room was large, with comfortable bed and plenty of sitting options. Nice view from the window and glass patio style doors. The bathroom was clean and properly stocked with toiletries. Breakfast was adequate. Just one request: if they could start the breakfast earlier than 8AM.

South island getaway

Loved this place, great staff, friendly. We were upgraded to a suite looking over pond and gardens. Breakfast was an outstanding continental spread. What a gem. Would recommend to anyone.

It is a relatively new hotel with clean and spacious rooms. Friendly staff and good service. Decent free breakfast is offered at no cost. It is not within walking distance of the town; so you will need a car.

Lovely property for an overnight stay. Rooms are large, clean and provide a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly.

We spent 4 weeks touring around the South Island in Feb 2023. Of all the places we stayed, this was by far the most expensive and by far the least impressive. If you intend to stay here, make sure you get a room that looks out to the north, over the meadow. Our room was adjacent to the car park, so no view and need to keep the curtains closed. Ventilation was very limited and zero in the bathroom. It was just a basic motel room despite the "jet" spa bath. No kitchen facilities which are commonly provided in kiwi motels. No on-site dining so you go back to the township and that is quite a few kms down the road. Couldn't get breakfast here and couldn't make our own in the room. I notice their prices are very variable; I guess we hit a peak week. It's a really basic motel room, so it might be OK if you can get a low price, but it's still out of town. I'd recommend to try and stay anywhere else.

A mixed bag

A mixed bag! The good - charming and helpful manager, large room, modern fit out. The bad - no ventilation so room was stuffy, some rooms have nice views towards the hills but ours looked over the car park with no privacy, wifi very slow and TV initially not working, some km from town and on-site restaurant very limited. Not a cheap stay and to us, not worth the price

Great place to stay in Franz Josef

We had a great stay here on our Honeymoon. The staff was excellent and the rooms was very comfortable and clean. Was only a 3 mins or so drive into Franz Josef

Nicest place on my 15 day trip

I never leave comments but: The room was unbelievable it was like staying in a very upscale hotel. The bed is how I rate all of my room stays, this one did not disappoint. I WOULD stay here again and if you are looking for a place to stay in this area THIS IS IT! Just stayed for one night check in was fast and easy. The only thing that made me nervous/uneasy about the check in was the fact that they wanted me to write down my credit card information on the sign in doc.

Great convenient location, comfortable stay

Linda was very helpful throughout our stay, providing directions for food and tours in the area. the room is clean but there were some small insects in the room. Some of the cabinets were cracked. the room could have benefitted from some areas to hang clothes. there was 1 area to hang clothes but there was barely enough space to hang a few clothes

Cleanliness of the room and place enjoyed the stay

Wonderful little hotel with modern/minimalist feel in a very peaceful setting. Rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. Quinn was amazing and took care of everything from checking in guests, to providing information about the area, arranging transportation, setting out breakfast and serving dinner. The only drawback is it’s a few km outside of the town center, so without a car it can be a little inconvenient. There is a shuttle service in town, but it can get pretty pricey at $25 NZD each way. A few restaurants in town do offer free shuttle service as long as you eat or drink at their establishment, so that’s a nice touch.

This is such a nice and quiet place. Enjoyed to be a bit out of the buzz in the city. Really a quality place to stay!

Looks can be deceiving. From the road it looks like a motel but the rooms are up with the best hotels. Just request a room overlooking the garden rather than the parking lot

Welcoming and friendly staff: we arrived late (after the check-in window), but we could easily get in our room where the heater was already turned on - amazing after a long drive on a rainy evening. The setting & room were also great, the gallery in the dining area has a great landscape photo exhibition.

This property is outside town but with 10mins drive. The location is beautiful. We got a room overlooking the garden and pond. And right next to a farm with sheep! The room was extremely well furnished! Even has an electric fireplace that has heat as well. For the price, we were so happy!!!!

This is a nicely updated property just outside of town. It was very clean and comfortable. The woman who was at the front desk was quite helpful, efficient and kind. It is a very nice place to stay when you are in Franz Josef!

Colorado couple

It was a very nice place. Love the view out the window. The fireplace in the room was great. Very clean and comfortable.

We loved everything about this property. It was great value for money. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to refurbishment so we didn't get to utilise this service but everything else was wonderful.

We stayed 2 nights while visiting the Franz Josef Glacier area and booked an executive suite with king bed and fireplace. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable with many layers of down feather mattress pads and comforter. The “fireplace” was a faux electric and the primary source of heating for the room. We were given a room with a ‘walk in” (meaning wheelchair accessible). We did not require the accessibility but it made for a very large bathroom and shower - the downside was there was not sick counter space and was very difficult for 2 people to use the sink. Our room faced the parking lot - which wasn’t a problem for a 2 night stay but not a pleasant view. When booking ask for a room facing the other side - it’s a beautiful view. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a small restaurant for a limited dinner menu and continental breakfast. A good option if you don’t want to drive the short distance back into town

The Oasis is in a beautiful location adjacent to a welcoming pond. Sitting here in the afternoon warmth is delightful after a long day of driving. The room is immaculate and has the most power points I have ever seen in a hotel room! You can inform management if you want to have dinner or breakfast, however there are many eateries available in town. The Oasis is out of town, so be aware that you need transport to get to where you want to in town. Well-appointed room with an electric fireplace that is a welcome addition in winter. Unfortunately, the bed was rock-solid which spoilt a great experience overall.

Hospitality was excellent, everyone we met was amazing, the service was great from the minute we arrived! The place was clean bed was comfortable, there is laundry onsite $4 for wash and further $4 for dryer. Little pricey but super convenient. We went to the restaurant, simple menu but fantastic! Great stay would recommend.
