Valentino was a great host!
Valentino at the Dover Castle really helped a lot, super friendly guy who helped me get a 3 night stay last minute, due to evacuation of another hotel. He was very helpful and very positive, hard to find in a guy in London. So a massive thank you to him and his hard work there.
The guy at the reception is very rude! I don’t know why is he working there if he don’t like it! They were painting the hostel so noise and terrible smell in the rooms and hallways!
Very close to Borough station and bus is very accessible. The pub attached as well is fantastic. However the property was a bit dirty and outdated. The toilet facilities weren’t great and had a foul stench. Overall okay if you’re just sleeping and getting around without spending much time in there.
Average at best
I read good reviews about this place which is the main reason I booked. However, they have a few fundamentals wrong. No storage for your belongings! No soap in the toilet next to my room. No curtains on the window next to the bed I was sleeping in. No socket at the bed to charge my phone. Do not stay here if you have heavy luggage, I was constantly helping people up and down the stairs with theirs. Apart from that it’s ok. I wouldn’t stay again. I wouldn’t discourage people to stay though.
Low price
Great hostel
Lovely hostel
Nice place to stay many facilities
Kitchen had some old stuff, otherwise good
The second floor washing facilities are horrible, no place to store gear, no hanger, push buton for water and curtain for the shower door. Seriously though to change location after the first shower. No electrical outlet near my bed, the only bed without one in the room.
I didnt like the cleanliness of the room and the bathrooms.
Too noisy
Hotel is very nice clean and staffs are also good. Thank Mr.Pioter
Excellent Hostel.Great think of this hostel is they have
Kitchen/living area wasn't very pleasant, showers were run down, a lot of stairs
Good place to stay at. Great people working there.
Ryana
Great value for money and excellent staff
The people who work there are friendly and helpful !
There is sort of an abnormal odour at the entrance of the hostel which needs to be taken care of. Heating condition in room should be better. Too cold in the room
The staff was amazing and the location was really good. Accross the street from the underground. I was able to take to underground straight to the airport practically to the door step. Breakfast in the morning was nice to have and saved me a lot of money. It is definitely a little worn down and you get what you pay for but the amenities were worth it. Wi-Fi was a little hit and miss. Good 20 minute walk to a lot of amazing locations. If you didn’t want to take the underground.
It was very nice hostel with great location and amnesties.
Easily accessible. Friendly staff. Clean rooms and great service.
The main thing I liked about the hostel was that it had a 24 hour reception. I arrived just after midnight and had to leave early in the morning so it was handy to have a real person there to check me in and out.
Good location close to grocery stores, restaurants and the tube and major rail station. WiFi doesn't reach the top floor very well.
I enjoyed my stay at Dover Castle Hostel -- the price is right for a quick visit into London... but don't expect any fluff! ;-) I recommend!
Everything was oke. Just suddenly saw a girl came in room at late night. the next day i asked form some one he says yeh girls even can live with boys rooms.
Nice simple place. Amazing staff and ok breakfast. Only problem was the sound coming from the pub, but for me was fine.
On the whole it’s OK
Great location, staff are very helpful and it’s the cheapest hostel in this area. The mattress that was in my bed was old and saggy in the middle, which made for an unpleasant nights sleep. The place could really do with a freshen up as all the facilities seem to be well used. Aside from that I would recommend it, and have just booked my second stay there.
Beds were not comfortable. And hard to sleep with the street noise and pub noise below. Location is good as it is fairly accessible to see various things around London
Bunk beds in a big enough room by the street.
A small hostel on the upstair of a pub, and it is very clean. If you only want to stay for a sleep it is good enough. But if you are a light sleeper ,mind street is really noisy.
good to have a short stay
location is convenience. it is next to Borough station good for backpacker to stay for one day /few days. staffs are nice and helpful! the room is clean. the breakfast is nice!
Nice Location, very close to borough underground
Friendly environment. Rooms were tidy but abit smaller than I thought.
Nice place to get your head down
It's noisy, with a bar downstairs open till late. But it is warm and cosy and the staff really care
A place where they know your name
Lovely staff who know your name. It could do with a bit of tlc
Very friendly place. The staff really care
Staff are great. Above a student pub so can be noisy and bits keep falling off, but is being slowly refurbished
Judge on your own
Maybe I was expecting a bit too much. Friendly staff in general, breakfast was ok. Two things were unacceptable: loud music in the pub of the hostel, I mean they know there is a hostel next to the pub, it's their hostel, though the music went loud as a club until late. The other thing is towels were not offered and were charged rather expensive. Would I stay again? No. But maybe this is just my standards. Some people were renting monthly.
Avoid to go even being cheaper
Not recommend! Worse experience ever! bad service: cold water for some days (cold showers), one toilet broken, WiFi not working. The building is in bad conditions which some windows open and dirty. At least the area of the hostel is good and central. However not worthy this price for the conditions and service.
nice staff
near London bridge station, five minutes to the borough market.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Dover Castle Hotel. I slept well despite loud music from the Dover Castle Bar below the room or being in a mixed dorm with 7 others. The other sharers were very considerate and respectful. I didn't get the Internet to work on my laptop but the staff were willing to try everything they could. It was ridiculously cheap and that included breakfast. I will stay there again should I need somewhere to crash out in London.
close to tube
I spent 5 consecutive night in this shared rooms place. It was a friendly and a safe place. Breakfast was fine rooms were well maintained. entrance stairs need fixing. The place is on a walking distance to many famous London areas.
Great for the price
I had a blast, met some awesome people at the pub downstairs. My only complaint was that it was so hot in the room, the windows barely opened and there was no fan or AC... so I would wake up in a dead sweat. But when it cooled down outside it was great. I didn't have to worry about anything getting stolen. And I was close to all the sights I wanted to see on my trip. Great stay
No privacy. Basic continental breakfast
Very basic hostel. No privacy curtains on beds and no security lockers. Much better hostels nearby. Very old and dilapidated building with limited toilets and showers.
Tiny, not big enough for the number of people
So, loud in the room, no was to close Windows. Staff came into the room at 2am, 3 male staff carried a girl so drunk she was unconscious into our room, waking everyone up, were very load and it was awful. I'm concerned about what they did with the girl, she needed hospital. Then an hour later the fire alarm went off. Basically it was awful. On a Monday night too! U may expect it at the weekend, but really?
generally not bad.
So far ok. Nothing special to be mentioned, either good or bad,
Good breakfast
nearby tube station.
only one bathroom and two toilets each floor. Loud music even at midnight because there's a pud downstairs.
nice
Good hostel
Good location, nice stuff Breakfast was satisfactory.
Noisy, share a shower, did I say noisy
The people who work there are lovely. Shared mixed showers so can get to know people really quickly if you wanted to. The local area is Borough/London Bridge where it seems every single student in London gathers to get drunk on weeknights

When I checked in I was told the reception would be open 24 hours but when I wanted to check out the next day, the reception was closed and the worst thing was the phone number written on the sign they put on the door was not in service so I had no way to reach out to the staff. I had to search the correct phone number on Google myself. But even if I dialled the correct number nobody answered. I rang the door bell nobody answered either. I was in a hurry to leave but in the end I waited for 15 minutes being worried before someone finally came. Another thing was, I know it was a cheap hostel but why did we have to take out the all the covers like the bed cover, pillow cover and duvet cover by ourselves? It wasn’t a very difficult job however when I checked out it was in the early morning and the shared room was still dark. I had to climb up to the top of the bunk bed to do it in darkness, which was dangerous to myself and disturbing to the people who were still sleeping in the room. Why can’t the staff do their own job instead when everyone checks out in the afternoon?
