Great location, lovely staff, great facilities and rooms
Great stay!!
Can't beat the location, staff was super nice but the space felt super cramped / no space and showers were cold ... no hair dryers and Codes to every door... annoying
It was a pod double in a hostel so everthing we expected. We had ensuite with clean towels ear plugs provided but we didn't need them everything it said on tge lid good overall.
This is one of the best hostels I ever stayed. I stayed in female 10 people dorm. Though there were 10 people staying, I felt very private. The pods have screens, light and USB connecting port. The staffs were very friendly. I was invited to a beer tasting session and it was very interactive one. JC did the beer tasting session and he was very friendly. He helped me a lot right from check in and whatever query I had, JC helped me with it. The high street area was very nearby. There are lots of options nearby for food. There are lots of pubs nearby hosting live music session. This is the best place to stay if you are looking for somewhere nearby city and it also helped me to meet new people from different parts of the world. This is one of the best stay I had and I would chose this hostel again.
Great experience! So close to everything!!!! Staff was so helpful.
Loved my stay, would stay there again
Solo travel great experience
It was a superb and safe experience for a young woman traveling solo.
Stayed here a couple of times now, both times were great both in high season and low. Comfy, safe bedrooms, amazing staff. Perfect location. Low season they were doing Reno’s on the bathroom which was annoying but easy enough to use a different floors bathroom
Pod Life
Comfortable pods, late checkout till 1pm helped the day run smoothly, food, drinks available onsite with a ground floor self service kitchen, lots on all around the area, lots of activity via the hostel, so much to explore.
It’s affordable for budget travelers, perfect location and easy to get around the city. Highly recommended and I’ll definitely b back to stay here again whenever I have a chance to visit Edinburgh.
This concept is very intriguing! While I booked a private room, it was very small, but all I needed. The communal washrooms / showers were very clean and well designed. The common areas got quite busy, so I usually went out to the Royal Mile since the location is extremely central. Edinburgh Castle is a short walk and many restaurants nearby. A very affordable option for travellers who are open to a hostel concept, with a large kitchen, if cooking is preferred
Perfect location. Noisy, small rooms
Good things: location is unbeatable, right in the middle of the city, perfect. Clean rooms and toilets. Nice common area to stay in the evening. Bad things: the rooms are the samllest I've ever stayed in. They are called cells, and it's very realistic. The room has a bed, touching 3 walls and a little cabinet. It's noisy, even the workers don't respect the silent hours. The laundry is in the first floor and if you are unlucky and that's your floor you will hear lots of noise. This should be improved. Overall for the money you pay I think it is a bit too expensive, you pay the location.
Great location. Near plenty of restaurants pubs and stores.
Great and clean hostel.
Great place. Traveling across Europe for a few weeks with my son. Stayed here for 3 nights. I love the pod type hostels. This place is very clean and the staff was great. Had breakfast there one morning and they made me gluten free waffles that were excellent and I loved that they offered that. I felt safe in the area. Very walkable and right in the heat of old town. Lots of different ages there which was great. Thank you
I booked a private room, and it was perfect. The shared bathroom was clean. The best things about this hotel are (1) its central location, and (2) the friendly, helpful staff. If I were to go back to Edinburgh, I’d stay here again.
I recently stayed at CoDE Pod – The CoURT in Edinburgh, and it was a fantastic experience! The location is unbeatable, situated right in the heart of the city ( on Royal Mile ) just a short walk from major attractions like Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile. The staff were incredibly welcoming and always ready to assist with recommendations for local eateries, tours, or hidden gems. They created such a friendly atmosphere that it felt more like staying with friends than at a hostel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage space and individual charging points for each bed. I appreciated the privacy curtains on the bunk beds, which made it easy to relax after a day of exploring. The kitchen was fully equipped, making it easy to prepare meals although I didn't prepared any. What stood out the most was the social vibe. From organized events like beer testing to casual chats in the lounge, the hostel really brought people together. I’d highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Edinburgh, whether you're traveling solo or with friends. It’s the perfect base for exploring this beautiful city!
Great hostel!
Pods were clean and bathrooms were clean. Location is within Edinburgh old town so it’s quite close to many attractions such as St Giles, National Museum of Scotland and 10-15 min walk to many other sites such as Holyrood Palace and Dean Village.
The pods were perfect. The location fantastic and everything was within easy walking distance.
The pods were surprisingly comfortable and the location is hard to beat! I’d definitely stay here again!
It's basically on the Royal Mile so it's super easy to get to & you won't get lost. When i went to bed, some girls had left the bathroom kind of gross, but when i got up in the morning, I was so happy to find that it had been cleaned up. People were pretty respectful of quiet places which is always appreciated. I was in a mixed room but i felt very safe, something I value as a single chick. Staff was very pleasant & asked if there was anything they could improve on my way out. It was a good experience all around!
Excellent location, staff, and cute and quiet pod. First time in a hostel and only aimed to have a place to sleep and met all my needs.
Cozy stay
It was my first ever solo trip and the stay was one of my concerns.. but this place blew my mind . I didn’t had any expectations.. but this place is best for solo travelers …
It’s great for solo travellers like me. The location is the best part of this hotel as it is in the heart of the old town, which is just walk away from the train station and to other touristy places in Old Town such as the Edinburgh castle and St. Giles cathedral
It was nice
Amazing and very safe hostel..Near to all attractions
This place is horrible. Just pay more if you want to sleep.
Perfect location
Perfect location, felt very safe and was in walking distance to all the attractions. Staff were great.
I just had my first experience staying in a hostel, and I have to say, I was really pleasantly surprised! First off, the place was super clean—both the rooms and the bathrooms were well-maintained, which made my stay so much more enjoyable. It's always a bit nerve-racking staying in budget accommodations, but this one definitely exceeded my expectations. I also felt completely safe while I was there. It’s great to travel and know you’re secure, and this hostel had some solid safety measures in place. The location couldn’t have been better! It was perfectly situated near all the must-see spots, which made exploring a breeze. And let’s talk about the staff—they were amazing! So friendly and always ready to help with anything I needed, whether it was a tip for a local restaurant or just checking in. Their warmth really made a difference! Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a clean, safe, and welcoming place to stay. Can't wait to return!
I feel it is affordable and convenient location , walkable from Train station, staff is very cooperative specially Rohan , He is very nice and a fantastic person, he always try to help all the guest with good gesture.
As good as a hostel can be! Very friendly staff and excellent location. The rooms and facilities were clean/in good shape as well
This is more for the younger traveler
The location is convenient, in the centre of the old town. The bed is clean and comfort. No chair/sitting area in the room. Only one hook to hang clothing/towel. I stay in LG01(lower ground) for five nights - during rainy days, the rain jackets made the room very humid. Also wifi/cell reception is terrible in LG especially at night.
My fav hostel in Old Town
Second time staying at CoDE and loved it again! Private and comfortable pod style dorms, clean and spacious bathrooms/showers, well equipped kitchen, and a great common area. The hostel also offers social events like walking tours, and whiskey and beer tastings (some free, some paid). Very well located right on the high street so it’s only a 5 min walk from Waverley and right in the action.
Great staff. Delicious breakfast choices. Cosy pods.
Great options if you need a cheap place to stay, pretty clean, and staff are amazing.
Our stay at CoDE was great! Everything was very clean and felt safe and secure. The staff and other occupants were all kind and respectful. It's in a very convenient area as well for easy access to transportation, shopping, food, and exploring the city. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.
Staff member Jana was a consistent friendly and extremely helpful host during my 2 week stay. When the room was delayed 2 hours after check in she would provide a happy smile and cup of tea. When I had a small medical emergency and my legs stopped working she was immediately helpful and found tonic water for me in the back room to ease the spasms. She was the ultimate Host during my stay . TOP NOTCH , Thank you for all your kindness Jana !!!
Excellent, centrally located hostel. Generally feels new and always seemed clean. Pods/rooms just have slow USB chargers and no plugs, so that made it difficult to keep things charged up.
What a fun enjoyable stay! We rented the 8 man pod and it was perfect for our family!
Everything was excellent 👍 Location 👌 perfect
Yy
It was a good deal for the price, very clean and well maintained and the staff was very professional and courteous, but it's right on the Royal Mile, which is overrun with tourists, which is not ideal.
Great staff, good vibes!
The place is right on Royal Mile and you can easily walk to everything! The staff was friendly. The beds were so comfy and the pods were cool! Nice having your own space. The bathrooms are very clean too and plenty of shower/toilet options. Never had to wait. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in!
The bed was very comfortable. Our double en suite room was very very small. The location was very good. The atmosphere was very woke and seems somewhat proud at pushing that in your face.
It was absolutely fantastic to stay here.
Totally unexpected
I was expecting a dirty noisy place filled with young travellers. It was bright, clean, the pod was lovely, very comfortable. Very quiet considering 8 in the room. Would highly recommend
We had a doubles room , fixed our own supper in the shared kitchen/Dining area.
Great polite friendly staff, Emaculatly clean. Very central in old town. Geeat chice of reatruants and bars nearby. Definitely would go back and stay again.
a really great stay in a super convenient location, felt safe and secure in a single sex dorm and would happily stay here again
Good value, pods are a bit stuffy but very quiet and clean. Staff were great nice feeling to it and right in centre of attractions.
Only downside is it's right on the Royal Mile which is saturated with tourists. Otherwise great for the price.
Great location and accommodation
I enjoyed my stay for the 3 days I was there. The location is convenient, property was very clean. Bed was comfortable and water was hot. Best porage i've had so far. I would definitely stay again.
The staff were so nice and it was in the heart of everything. The showers and bathrooms were very clean as well! Just a heads up that it does get a bit warm in the pods, but packing a light set of pyjamas should fix that :)
Having never travelled overseas before, this place was a warm welcome. With friendly staff, clean accommodations and easy to find it made it a nice place to lay our heads for the first night after a long day of travel. Regan was absolutely amazing and the best barista!!! The day before our last night accommodations were made so we could stay one more night!!! She and the rest of the staff made our stay so pleasant we will definitely be back.
CoDE takes a lot of care in making sure the facilities are clean. The restrooms, showers and beds are frequently tidied. Fellow guests are quiet and respectful. It was my first time staying at a hostel and in a mixed gender room. The only exception is that the fridge and cooking area could be better maintained and its rules enforced. Otherwise very easy to store leftovers and heat them up. Breakfast and coffee also great. The beds are also very comfortable. I slept very well with earplugs.
Love my pod. I was in an all women pod. Wish I could have fit in a Gin Tasting. Centrally located to the Royal Mile. It was just what I needed for this trip. Easily walkable to the train station
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at this hostel. We are in our 60’s and chose this because it is an affordable option right in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town. We had a double bed and ensuite. Clean and comfortable. We could have used the kitchen but didn’t. This would be a safe option for people travelling alone. A bit of outside noise at night, but not too bad.
Great location and staff. Layout was a little confusing.
Perfect location for exploring Edinburgh. The pods are private and cosy, great luggage storage, bathrooms are clean, spacious and the showers were wonderful. Welcoming and helpful staff throughout my stay.
Amazing! the best hostel I've ever hosted in my life.
The pod room, reception, and bathroom were very clean. However, the kitchen area was absolutely disgusting. Food crumbs were all over the tables and floors and the sink was backed up with food particles. The bed was comfortable and the blue light in my pod was helpful so I could see what I was doing but wasn’t overwhelmed my a bright white light. The security codes to get to the pod room made me feel safe. The location of this hostel honestly can’t be beat. There was no hot water for my final night and day (frustrating, but not their fault). I purchased the late check out for £10 so I could have a final explore of the city and rest before leaving, but my when I returned my code no longer worked for the door and my locker and my bed had been remade, so I wasn’t able to rest before leaving. Because of that, it was a waste of money that could not be refunded. To take people’s stay to the next level, keep a closer eye on the cleanliness of the kitchen area and be mindful of visitors who have a late check out.
I was there during The Fringe so it was packed, but the rooms were still quiet and everything was still clean. Only complaint was the bathrooms ran out of toilet paper frequently.
Great hostel like facilities in an old courthouse holding center . Extremely convenient great location great pricing ! No privacy but great for a side traveler !
Location is great and all staff is very nice
Overall, it’s right on Royal mile making most old city easily accessible for an early start. Multiple door locks makes the stay feel very secure for travelers. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The location is right on the royal mile, so you can get to everything and transport very quickly. The ‘pods’ don’t have doors, so it is more like stay in a hostel.
The best hostel I ever stayed at
It met my expectations.
For my first solo travel this place was perfect!! Staff was very friendly and the pods were clean!!
Wonderful staff, very helpful and caring! Wonderful location close to all attractions! Nice and comfortable beds! Clean showers! Highly recommended. Forget about all other hostels!
Such a good time with nice clean facilities
I had never slept on a pod before. It was a unique experience for me. It worked quite well.
Very nice hostel, big lockers for stuff, very quiet, and in a cool, historical building and great location.
First hostel I’ve stayed at. Didn’t even miss that it wasn’t a hotel. Great location and the sleep pods were comfy and quiet
Close to everything Had a great time there
Overall, it’s an amazing property, right in the middle of the Royal mile makes it walkable to majority of the places to see in Edinburgh. The pods experience was great as they are cozy and not claustrophobic at all. I even made a friend while I was staying there. I just felt it was a bit expensive I paid around £85 per night, which is not cheap. But overall, great place to stay, highly recommended!
Amazing Hostel
We visited Edinburgh because of the Tattoo and The Code was the only Hostel with a double bedroom still available. We honestly did not expect much, but it turned out to be an absolute gem! Very nice/respectful/helpful staff, very clean, amazing offers like a free guided city tour (Sara was the best!) and the overall atmosphere was absolutely great. The Code used to be the court house jail back then and this theme is present everywere. Our room literally just fitted the normal double bed and basically nothing else. It was a great time and we will definitley stay there again! Many thanks!
In the heart of Edinburg an excellent modern very clean hostel with very helpful and friendly staff
The pods/beds
CoDE The Court
As a hostel, this as as expected. comfortable, no nonsense. the breakfast was good, the coffee excellent. 1/2 block off the Royal Mile, in the middle of the Fringe Festival.
.
Loved the location of this hostel—next to St Giles Cathedral. Staff exceptionally attentive and helpful.
No shampoo/conditioner available
Amazing
I loved it, and the people who kept it running were very kind and the cleaners kept it clean and tidy. I do wish that it could be a little bit colder due to the heat outside.
A superb experience . Cleaner than some hotels I have visited . So quiet . I was worried about privacy it it was all marvellous
Just like Japanese capsule hotels
Just as good as the capsule hotels I've stayed at in Japan, with the added bonus that they give you, on request, a small USB fan to help stave off the usual "hot and stuffiness" that comes with staying at a capsule hotel, which I've never had in Japan! All the staff were fantastic, every interaction was friendly and helpful. There's usually space in the communal area downstairs to sit and hang with a drink, and they have a fridge and full kitchen if that's your thing. The bathrooms and showers are clean and plentiful, I always had my pick of showers. The lockers are just about big enough for a large backpack but not really big enough for a suitcase, so the room had a few suitcases against the back wall. Not a problem, but worth being aware of if you're paranoid about your socks being stolen. Would definitely stay again.
Staff was great! Check in and check out was perfect and easy
.
Everything you need. Very very clean. The only criticism I can give is that it can get very crowded around the reception desk.
Very central location! Delicious breakfast!
Way better than you probably expect from a hostel
Fantastic location. The pods offer much better privacy than normal bunks. The lighting in rooms and bunks is at a good level. The lockers are big and don't need padlocks. There's even very moderate Aircon (down to 22 degrees) to keep the room fresh without going mega cold at huge expense of energy. Quiet too. I had a 6-pod room and that meant it was pretty reliably easy to get a good sleep without too much disturbance. All kept VERY clean. A nice touch to have a shared (left behind) food provision in the nice kitchen. If I had to give constructive feedback it would only be that the wait at reception was always long.
Great for solo traveler
Perfect place to stay in old town Edinburgh

Not the hostel of your youth!
Such nice staff. Incredibly helpful and friendly. The place was very cool. I was concerned that I'm too old for the hostel style of stays, but this was a great experience. The pods provided a level of privacy that the backpacking, creaky bed type don't have.
