The location of this hotel is great the staff really friendly room was clean
Excellent location and great staff but internet service was sometimes weak and hot water wasn’t the greatest b
The staff were very amiable, helpful, and willing to assist. The hotel was clean. We found the room to be lacking - there was no chair, no desk or table to use as a writing surface, and only one nightstand. The lighting was insufficient to read in bed, and since there was no chair, any reading after dark was difficult, unless standing. While we were able to use wi-fi in all other places in town, the wi-fi at Hotel Tobala never wasavailable to us -? We were never able to use it. There was no mention of the street noise either - at times it was quite loud. The curtains were not sufficient to fully block the street light, even though the curtain rods were there for them. Unfortunately, we found the hotel to have great unrealized potential.
If you're looking for a comfortable hotel, this is not the hotel for you. It's located in a very noisy part of town, the air conditioning unit sounds like there's a jet engine running. The bed is rock hard, the room furniture is ageing & the varnish is peeling. There isn't a room safe. The walls of the bathroom are buckled & pulling away from the stud wall, the toilet was cracked & the shower partition felt like it was going to collapse when trying to close the screen door. The rooms abound an open courtyard, lovely unless someone is smoking as the smoke unfortunately enters the room. So,technically, it's not a non-smoking room. On a postive note, the shower pressure is good. When I asked the cleaner for a hair dryer he promptly delivered one. The room was quite clean, & there is plenty of storage space. I did enjoy the music that the vendors on the street were playing to get their morning started.
If you are looking for an American Chain hotel, then there are those, but if you want an authentic Mexican hotel experience, this is the place. It is centrally located in one of the busiest street markets in Mexico, where the hustle of bustle starts early and ends late. Yes, there is loud music from the shops ( music disc vendors and some shops play music), a smoky bar barque smell in the breeze from the many charcoal braziers in the food market, noise from the vendors and bit traffic, but that is exactly where the hotel is located. It is with two blocks of the Zocalo and is central to the museums and cultural centers. The staff are very friendly and are quick to provide any thing that you might need. The rooms are clean, the linens fresh and the rooms well appointed. There are spacious open air areas to just sit and enjoy the hour. The hotel has an entrance on the ground floor. The second floor has a lovely interior open air patio that is comfortably furnished. The third floor contains 3 rooms for guests, an open air roof top patio, the meeting rooms and the breakfast buffet room. Once you climb the stairs from the lobby to the second floor, you are in the middle of the city, but have a quiet refuge. I will stay here again, in a heartbeat... I love the ambiance and the feeling of this place..Oh and the coffee maker in the room is such a treasure fr Mexico. This is a great place to stay. Some knowledge of Spanish is helpful.
Very satisfied great location friendly staff clean hotel comfortable bed great air conditioner stayed for 3 days will definitely recommend this place
I loved the old building and proximity to Centro historico
It was good what's comfortable the neighbor was too loud other than that was good
Great Hotel
We stayed in 4 different hotels in Oaxaca while there, this one was by far the best! My mother & daughter were very happy as well. Thank you to the staff as well for the great customer service too. The only part I did not like is the parking, we head to rush getting our luggage ot of the car & in when leaving due to the traffic along the street.
Oaxaca Centro, Below the Zocalo
Good check in, polite staff. No wi fi in room. No hot water. Although backing on Mercado Benito Juarez the room was not particularly noisy.
Very friendly hotel
The staff is great and friendly! The hotel has all the amenities, but they really have to put more attention into the rooms because they’re very big but totally bare.
Good and affordable. Right at the city center and next to the market, where you will find amazing food. My only complaint about the room (#5) is that the door could be open even if It was locked up with the key.
Great location!!!
Great location, really close from downtown, local market, museums, etc. There was only an inconvinience with bad smell in bathroom.
The good: friendly staff, good air-conditioning, hotel across the street from main market and just a 2-3 blocks from zocalo. The bad: hard bed, thin pillows, breakfast buffet not good. You can get a better meal in Zocalo for roughly the same price. People slamming doors all night past midnight and Music played too loud. I complained but it did no good. They said it was the bar next door but I think it was the kitchen in the top floor. Twice I walked up there to find the music blasting. Several of the outlets and lights did not work. Next time I would stay some place else.
I would stay here again. This is your basic inexpensive room without bells and whistles. The entire facility was very clean; the staff was pleasant and quick to respond to requests to make our stay comfortable...applies to the Oaxaca people and area venues as well. During our stay over dia de los muertos, tons of visual and auditory input with a some of it lasting into the wee hours of the night. Come prepared to speak Spanish or to use a language translator (app or human).
Great location, helpful staff, clean and safe
Front-desk staff were friendly & eager to be helpful (and spoke better English than I did Spanish). Bottled water provided, rooms were clean and air-conditioned, bed was comfortable. Hotel staff helped arrange return-trip taxi service to local areas and stored our luggage for a few hours after check-out. Also offered to make up our faces for Dia de Muertos, though we didn't take them up on that. Hotel is directly across the street from the main year-round market and a very short walk to the Zocalo, the city center – a perfect location! During Dia de Muertos there is lots of street noise late nights and a decent amount of noise during vendor setup in the mornings – be advised. WiFi was spotty and slow, but worked (especially in the lobby near the router). Sufficient to keep in touch via email, not quite good enough for video chat.
Excelente
Nice hotel room with the mercado right out front of the hotel. Walking distance between the zocalo and museums
Mal estacionamiento.
casa Tobala excelente atencion y servicio!!!
The location of the place is very ideal but the Wi-Fi didn't work and the drain smell that came from the shower was unbearable.
Maravilloso!
Maravilloso hotel!
Alles in direkter Umgebung.
