A lot of the people wake up at 4 or 5am to start claiming beach chairs even though they dont use them. That was the only thing I didnt like about that place.
Everything was fine food the beach right out in front nice, shows everything everything was great
We are seniors. What was good - Food, Entertainment evening shows, around the pool games, alcohol quality and choice, staff, room with balcony and stocked fridge, we were upgraded to an ocean view room, lots of shopping and restaurant choices across the street from hotel, pools, fun place to go. THere were not a lot of kids in adult pools because they had their own pool. Jazmin and Chio were especially good to us. CONS - only allowed 2 a la carte restaurants for 7 night stay, not sufficient A/C in restaurants so always hot when eating. Announcements only in Spanish so felt left out as to activities and shows and basically what was going on. This was not the case on previous visit.
Property could use some updates. Our first room smelled like sewer. Unfortunately the only way we could move rooms was to pay an additional fee to upgrade.( we were already premium) It was an awful smell so we paid the added fee.I have never stayed at a resort that would require that. It was unacceptable in my opinion. I loved the area so when we return to Ixtapa we will stay elsewhere.
Clean, great beach for walking, really good pools, great service, food was okay
Except for the small toilets, everything was great. No problem with toiletd except size.
The only positive thing is the staff they are nice but everything else is terrible .
Beach lounge chair reservation system by placing a towel to reserve isn't ideal. people were arriving at 6;00 am to reserve a place in the shade.
We have all what we need. Hard to find seat by the pool. It was 8am and people were walking through the pool area putting pool towels on the seats and leaving but not to the pool or ocean.
Awesome
.
Loved the beach. There was a lot of loud noise after midnight on several occasions.
Beautiful stay and wonderful beach I always love staying here. The only thing was this time their food selection was very limited.
The hotel was Great. Food was ok the drinks were horrible though watered down and some tasted like chemicals. Entertainment was ok. December is a good time to avoid big crowds.
Everything ok
Had a great time! New Years Celebration was amazing.
Beautiful views, very pretty family suite. Shower was terrible, no curtain and whole bathroom floor would be soaked. Called maintenance five times to fix air conditioner in main area and was never fixed. Food was okay, not much variety. Servers and waiters very nice. Nice pools.
Not great
Pros: Beach was clean and gorgeous. The pool area was nice. Some staff were great. Cons: This resort was very dated. The food was not great and was not even served during the time we eat dinner (5/5/30) also we normally eat lunch at noon and all restaurants were closed from 12-1! Our safe was broken. The shower was awful. It was difficult to find staff who spoke English. We couldn’t leave our son at the kids club because the staff member spoke zero English. I understand we are in Mexico but when there is a high amount of English speaking tourists you would expect there to be more people who could speak some English
excellent staff, nice pools beach access, food options good,,,our bathroom show signs of age, shower needed attention, dinner for al acarter]chose was poor
Excellent service
Great pools! Magnificent food! And of course the beach was beautiful. Staff was super courteous! If I travel to Ixtapa, will look at Barceló for lodging…
Easy to get to resort. I don’t like service and rooms
Ok
Overall good experience. Nice room, good gym, great beach and much to do nearby. Only consideration is that it's more family friendly that may not suit those looking for adult only.
Great service by the professional staff.
Todo muy bonito limpio buena comida
All inclusive Food was terrible! Compare it to Golden Corral in California !! Service was ok. Ixtapa itself is kind of boring nothing to do.
No hot water the whole way at. Not enough staffing. Food was all watered down no taste. No salad bar. WiFi was never able to connect. The restaurants that one would have to make reservations was only bit size servings and poor staffing. Room smelled the air conditioning system was being put a swear smell.
Excelent servive with staff and entertainment
Old but good. Staff wondeful and helpful. Nice close to ocean. Food mediocre
Nice property super clean . Felt very safe and the food was really good
Supposedly for being a high-end facility the cost is to high for , the rooms to be to smal as well as the bathrooms are too small unsafe children The door is the lead to the balconies do not lock so the toddlers are able to open it and walk to the balcony The rooms are too hot AC units do not work facility it’s This, my friendly children menu some of the restaurants
Very good
I stayed 5 year ago at Barceló Ixtapa and was really good but now the food is terrible.
I like that the hotel offers a daily night show for entertainment. I disliked the way they determine a la cart dining. We stayed 4 nights and were only offered 1 a la cart dining option as part of our package. If we wanted more, we would have to pay an additional fee.
there are not enough beach and pool chairs and inability to use our dinner benefit at a specialty restaurant.
Front desk helpfulness could improve. Other than that service at the pool area and at restaurants were great and very helpful they gave us more info than the front desk
No hoy water ! Every day I had to call reception to turn on the hot water for my 80 year old mom! Broken shampoo pump Clicked shower Broken toilet paper holder Extremely disappointed I told 12 family members paid for 3 rooms all inclusive
More than dirty, it was old and unkept. No hot water, the food choices were the same everyday. The options were not great , the ice cream machine was always broken. The rooms were old beds, broken tile, the water in the bathroom sink would not drain, in the shower either. I feel we overpaid for what we got. Terrible place.
The mattress was lumpy the bed was not comfortable. Changed room and the mattress was still not comfortable and still had lumps. The water would not drain in the shower because the floor was uneven and the water wouldn’t get hot we took cold showers😟. This was one of the worst hotels that I stayed in on vacation and it’s a Barcelo????
Great location!
I have to call them for towels and soap.
No me gusto porque yo reserve con mucho tiempo y no me respetaron el precio muy mal aparte pedí hablar con el encargado y nunca llego muy mal
Loved it
Property and staff were very good. The food overall was below average!
Great value, excellent kind employees, wonderful amenities.
Overall a good experience and awesome service.
The property is well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Ery safe feeling at hotel and across the street where they are very friendly and helpful also. Love going to Ixtapa!!! Barcelo is the best hotel so far!
The place is very nice
The property is very well maintained, but definetely showing its age. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The wifi was undependable, and the food was just average, but the location is beautful with lots of easy excursions from there.
I like how all staff trick you as king 👑 and queen 👑
We have stayed here 4 or 5 times. It is dated however the staff are marvellous.
Property is beautiful but needs updates . Washrooms on the property need help , toilets trouble flushing. Our bathroom had a slight sewer odour. The food/ buffets were great , lots of options ..
This was my second time staying. Last time was 14 years ago. 1. The fridge did not work, 2. Air conditioning did not work 3. Hot water did not work. 4. Food was exactly the same every day. Now all but the food was fixed but room seemed weathered. I had non of these problems my last stay.
Barceló Ixtapa is rated 3 1/2 stars 🌟 and this is what you will receive during your stay!! This Hotel is very old, without maintenance or updated improvements!!! very well located on a very quiet beach since our stay was the first week of March there were not many people and that was a plus for us!!! Not much variety in foods that are very basic and need to improve. Very low quality liquor unless you buy the gold bracelet which is very expensive for my taste!!!!!!!! and above all that they have an exclusive restaurant policy, that depending on the days you stay, they assign you special reservations of which we had 2 since our stay was 7 nights and we only took 1 since the Japanese restaurant was closed the night of our stay, the very friendly and efficient staff IDOLINA in the restaurant, excellent service, a mega plus for her!!!
I didn’t like how some of the staff treated us
Super relaxing good food good staff good shows and very nice place to stay
The resort location on the beach was great, with a beautiful ocean view from our room, although a very tiny balcony. We enjoyed sitting on the beach under the palm trees & walking the beach. The restaurant/bar serving staff were great...friendly and efficient. Most of the food was good, with a variety of options. Some TLC is needed for the facility - our balcony door was loose and rattled every night. The shower head was very loose and a few times we had little water pressure. There were several cracked floor tiles & the bathroom door was delaminated at the bottom. The tables in the outdoor breakfast area were all very wobbly. The wifi is very spotty & we constantly had to log back in. Some in our group had to go to the front desk several times to regain their access. A friend in our group had a great deal of difficulty getting the front desk staff to sort out a double charge in her reservation. It took her 5 trips to the front desk & a request to speak to a manager before a resolution was finally made. She still did not receive the total refund she was owed, but was told she'd get a deep discount on her next visit. Poor customer service with that situation. Overall, a nice place, but not the 4.5 star rating we'd thought it was before going...more like a 3.5.
Close to lots of shopping opportunities and restaurants off site from the resort, which were amazing. The restaurant's at the resort were "ok", but nothing wow. The restaurant's off site were so much better.
Good dining options other than the buffet, good drinks in the pool areas and a nice beach. Ixtapa airport is very small but very easy and quick to get through
Property should be updated, the staff were all great. Make sure to do the premium upgrade to get a better selection of food and drink.
Everything,so good 👍 The personal are very nice I want come back 😁
WIFI was offline a lot and difficult to sign back in.
Everything 👍
service was better this time than last time we stay here.
Service was great. Food was ok.
Older building, good service, decent array of menu options
Everything is good except the food
Beautiful view, show stopping performances, great food.
Food was not very good.
Our stay at the Barcelo was pleasant. The view was incredible and the staff were helpful. The food was repetitive and the meat was either overcooked or undercooked. The rooms could use an upgrade but overall we enjoyed our time there.
Best All Inclusive food we’ve ever had. Staff was very nice. We were promised and paid for King Bed but instead given a room with two small beds and one was broken. Door lock was broken and room safe didn’t work properly. Could never find a sun chair. All were taken.
Ty
Resort was nice, food was very good. Clean property and staff was very accommodating to help with whatever you needed. Had a few issues with the room from keys not working and shower wouldn’t drain right away. But that could happen anywhere I suppose.
Very spacious area. Rooms are quite descent. Food was good , but should specify spicy dishes. bus and taxis very handy. Friendly, efficient service. Would recommend
Great facility and great beach! Evening buffet selections are limited compared to other Barcelos and resorts, but what is offered is fine. Breakfast, lunch and specialty restaurants are fine.
Beautiful location, clean facility and very courteous staff. Food options and quality was sometimes lacking. Friday evening fiesta was excellent.
great stay! Not the greatest food I've had, but I am not complaining!
At check-in they didn’t tell me that i needed to use the key card to turn on the lights. I thought there was something wrong with the room. Also they said that they made a reservation for me at the Seafood restaurant but didnt give me a ticket. I went to the restaurant and they said my name wasn't there. I had to go to the lobby to get it fixed. It was a whole big thing.
service was awful, telephone didn’t work, and we were sent to a room that was occupied. We walked in to a family.
The events were very good.
I had already stayed at other Barcelós before but this is not what I expected. At night there was a lot of noise we couldn't sleep. They don't give you a reservation for the restaurant, only to whoever they want. They gave me a reservation after I complained to them. The housekeeping lady was rude when we asked for toilet paper because there was none in our room. The only attentive person was Paulina at reception. I would not stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Exelent on everything just one recommendation, more food choices other then that a good hotel
Good location. Great beach. Taxi’s reasonable. Fun tours. Food was good (would have liked more icecream.
Loved the little extras of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, charcuterie board, & swan toelsOptions for different rooms was good,But the bathrooms were way too small
Would recommend Barcelo to all me family and friends. The Sap is Great. Staff is friendly, food is great and property is very clean. N9ce place to stay if yout in Ixtapa. 😁
The only thing that they have to do is the pool area with the pool beds people are getting ready at 6 in the morning to get them and never show up
Great stay overall!
Excellent staff, amazing food, good in general
Clean, safe and quiet
Great food options.
We had the impression that Barcelo was a 5 stars hotel. To begin with our experience on the day of arrival at the reception they had a security male ordering me what to do instead of offering help with the questions we had. We pay for the Premium Level and we expect such service. The lobby was a mess full of luggage all mixed up, the reason why we wanted to keep our belongings with us. However, I was yelled out by the security guard with orders instead of enlighting us on how to proceed with the registration and giving us peace of mind that he was there to take care of our belongings. The housekeeping personnel was amazing, always smiling and willing to go the extra mile to help. Food and Beverage: Bartenders, waiters, and waitresses were most of the time smiling and helpful at their capacity. As a Premium Level guest one night I ordered a cabernet sauvignon at the small night club and I was served a very disgusting kind of red wine. I had to go find the bar manager in order to get what I ordered :-| At one of our a la carte dinners, I ordered a filet mignon what a disappointment, this piece of meat almost break my molar, seems like they didn't remove the connective tissues on the tenderloin. The pool facilities were clean. However, the pool manager or supervisor needs to enforce the POOL RULES. They were many lounge chairs empty, but reserved with towels. Sometimes one towel reserving two or three lounges. Honestly, my family and I will not come back to this Barcelo.
The area was quiet, the beach was clean and peaceful but I did not like that I had to pay additional to get the 24 hr room service or to attend the fancy restaurants at night. This did not show on the description when booking with Orbitz.
The food fruit smelled sour because there is no air conditioning. I had to let the people know that there was a fly in the yogurt. Little knats or mosquitoes where flying all over the fruit. The shower was clogged as well as the sink. The shampoo was rancid and there was mold under the shampoo dispenser. Mold around the sink. We had to request for more towels and toilet paper, etc.
First, the cons: bathroom was too small and difficult to maneuver. maintenance of rooms needs to be improved, for instance, our keys kept failing to open the door and we kept changing them until they changed the batteries in the entrance card key box. The pros: Room temperature was comfortable, bed was good and pillows were good. The common areas are clean and well kept. The pool area is also nice. The food is very good, and the seafood restaurant and the Italian are a must go. The evening shows are very good and a shout out goes to the Barcelo Band and the singers and dancers, they do everything from the 40's to present time, rock, ballads, country, rancheras, boleros, everything! But, what really makes this hotel a 4star hotel is the staff, from receptionist at the front desk, to the food servers at the restaurants, to the bartenders at the bars and the night club-Rocio, Joel and Hillary-Everybody who works at this hotel deserves a big round of applause. I guess some of the misses are mostly to my expectations from the Barceló Brand, I was expecting a little more, but, I did get my money's worth because the pros outweight the cons and we did have a great time there.

We have stayed at Barcelo properties in the past and have always had a great experience. This particular property needs a bit of work, and it is showing its age. The beach is stunning and one of the best in Mexico. The food was a bit monotonous and below average compared to most resorts of this calibre. The staff were very pleasant, but most did not speak English very well, if at all. This did not affect the quality of our vacation, though. It is a great place if you are looking to relax poolside or walk on the beach. If you are looking for nightlife or shopping or really good food, you will be happier somewhere else.
