I can't say anything bad about the hotel, since it was a pleasant stay for my husband and I. We came from the US and we loved the place.

A Mixed Experience with Highs and Lows

The hotel has seen better days, but we still had a good time overall. The outdoor pool area was nice, though the water was too cold to use—heating it would help. There is a small indoor heated pool, which was appreciated but limited in size. Breakfast was excellent—the best part of our stay—and deserves top marks. The padel court was a major disappointment. We booked in advance, but it was covered in moss and leaves, making it dangerously slippery. It looked abandoned and should either be properly maintained or closed. Cocktails were poor, and the bar staff seemed untrained. If you want a good drink, go elsewhere. Our room was nice, and we enjoyed the large balcony, but the beds seemed shorter than standard, and all of us found the pillows too thick. When we asked the staff for a nearby restaurant recommendation, they couldn’t help at all, which was surprising and unhelpful. In short, there were some bright spots—especially the breakfast—but too many negatives for us to consider returning.

Barcelo Shines.

Large beachside hotel **** just outside Ayamonte. Great Junior Suite. Spacious and comfortable. Very busy during our stay but the staff helpful and attentive. Great food available.

We are in our early 50’s and we were the youngest ones there by far. Older crowd!

Room safe broken, staff was very rude.

I visited Barceló Isla Canela for 5 nights on my own as a summer break while my children were away. The hotel was beautiful. The rooms were modern and clean. The breakfast was fresh and there was a massive selection of foods. The pool area was well maintained and the staff very friendly. I used the gym daily and although it is small it was well enough equipped for a hotel gym and everything was very new. It’s somewhere I would love to return to with my two children, there was a great family atmosphere while being luxurious

Really enjoyed our stay at this Hotel, excellent service and friendly staff, the rooms and property itself were clean and the food was great with a good and tasty variety at the buffet. For us, the only negative side was the entertainment program during the day which was a bit dull, but I also understand that this was because most of the other guests were from a much older generation.

It would be nice to have bidets in the hotel rooms

Nice location however here are the negatives: 1. Buffet does not include any drinks including the breakfast buffet. 2. Loose tiles around the pool walk areas. 3. Finicky air-conditioning thermostat. 4. Food at buffet did not have a great selection

Having to pay an extra 300 to move to a room with a useable balcony was the only negative and no coffee/tea making facilities in the room

You will need to upgrade your room

You will need to upgrade your room. I booked a junior suite and had to view 3 rooms before finding a suitable room (room 2109 is good). Reception was not pleasant and I felt uncomfortable asking to see other rooms. The male receptionist was rude. The resort is right across from the beach which is nice. The resort itself does not have a lot of atmosphere and it was filled with older German tourists. You cannot bring food to your sunbed by the pool and the drinks are served in plastic cups. There were plenty of sunbeds available. The food was good enough (we stayed half board). Breakfast was nice but dinner was hit and miss. There are 2 supermarkets within 5 mins from the hotel so you can pick up break, ham and cheese for lunch. The hotel is located 1 hour away from Faro airport so please factor in the cost of the taxi into your holiday (approx €160) All in all, it was lovely to get some sun and the hotel was adequate.

Relaxing and very family friendly.

This resort is very family friendly, lots of activities around the pool for all ages. I encourage you to get the all inclusive. Nice walking trail that parallels the beach and easy beach access. There is an exercise room. They offered yoga and water exercise classes. The lounge never had a bartender while we were there. It does have ping pong, pool, and other table games. It's a lovely salt cleaned pool that is treated and cleaned daily. Closed at 7:30 pm and opened between 10 & 11 am. When we were there. Mosquitoes are bad at dusk so don't leave your balcony door open. I didn't know about the pay parking until i arrived. The food was generous and plentiful, and overall quite good, but most of the grilled meats were overdone. We had a relaxing and comfortable stay.

Swimming pool not climatized water at about 21 celsius, additionally if you leave your hammock vacant for one hour they have a draconian policy of removing your personal belongings from your pool hammock. This information was not provided at check in. Some tiles by the poll broken. Hotel parking 15 euros per night expensive. Buffet food was good some days better than others. Bar staff and waiters helpful. Entertainment crew friendly. These points raised with customer services who listened and encouraged me to write to them but was unable to give me a business card. I felt management hiding behind the Barcelo name seemed sure business would continue coming and not very interested in making our stay more relaxing

Nice hotel

Stayed for 2 nights early June. Hotel was clean, rooms nice and the staff were friendly and attentive. Only slight downside was €12 per night car park charge.

One of spains best

My wife and i visited here for a short break during our spanish holiday. Location was amazing close to the beach and great pool. Breakfast buffet had plenty to satisfy everyone . Found most of the staff to be helpful and could speak some english. Just a short stroll out of the back gate to market stalls and restaurants.

Promising doesn't quite deliver...

It was misleading in that it had a beach. The beach is across the street and the hotel has no beach club or anything. During low season it's not a big problem but I imagine during high... I rated service low because of its policies not its staff. Staff was friendly and nice. Some of the policies - restaurant closed (I can't remember if one or the other) at 22:00-23:00. I arrived later than that and had to starve until breakfast. I thought maybe the minibar had some nuts or something- nope the "minibar" is basically room service which closes at the same time as the restaurant. They charge for using the safe. Seriously?! It's only 3€ a night but this is about the principle. Finally I had an open account and they still asked me for a 10€ deposit for the towel . Just annoying and impractical.

We had originally booked 1 night, but so impressed with the staff on reception we stayed another night. The choice of food (buffet) was very good. I shall certainly be recommrnding this hotel to my friends

A pleasant stop

I am sure that, during the summer season, this verymlarge hotel is bustling. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food in the buffet dining room was tasty and varied. The campus is very large, and, being across the street from the ocean and beautiful beaches, it is appealing to all the senses.

Superb beach hotel on the SPanish-Poruguese border

The hotel is very grand and creates an excellent impression on arrival. We were able to change rooms to one with a private balcony and view of the sea, without fuss. The beach is superb, a short walk across the road, a huge space with a flat gently shelving beach that keeps the water warm as it goes in and out over the hot sand.

Very Nice Hotel

Visited at the end of February 2015 for a short break. This was very early in the season and some minor maintenance was work was still in progress but the hotel was still very welcoming and excellent value for money.

2-day stay at Isla Canela

Very helpful, friendly staff at hotel - at reception and in restaurant and bar. Good atmosphere - staff and other holiday-makers. Great value for money. Food and drink were excellent with a wide choice. We visited in early November so could not use the outdoor swimming-pool but we had good walks along the beach and we hired bicycles to see more of the area and Ayamonte (excellent, safe cycle lanes).

Wow factor hotel

Great buffet every nationality catered for. Fabulous gardens and pools Very secure rooms and outside area.Very helpful receptionists printed our boarding passes as we left ours at home . Entertainment 7/10 however lots of daily activities if you required them. Lots of areas outside and in to sit and relax with free wifi. Fab reception area with fountain .Thought the car park fee per day A bit much but it was under shade . Would highly recommend

Lovely hotel with beach on the doorstep.

Lovely and relaxing in October, no children running around so mainly all couples. Lovely area for walks and just generally mooching about the nearby town of Ayamonte or popping over to Portugal on the ferry.

Very pleasant hotel for a restful break.

Both the buffet breakfast and dinner were excellent and although the dinning room was busy staff werervery efficient.

Hotel agradável em frente à praia. Diria 3 estrelas e não 4! Quarto pequeno para 2 adultos e 1 criança. Casa de banho com ótimo chuveiro. Não havia estendal para estender toalhas ou fatos de banho na varanda minúscula. Pequeno almoço ótimo! Excelentes frutas e muita variedade. Jantar ficou a desejar todos os dias que estivemos. Apesar de haver muita variedade de pratos, não tinham sabor e estavam mal confeccionados. Bar da piscina com muita pouca variedade de bebidas. A zona da piscina é pequena e muito desorganizada. Não existe o controle das toalhas a marcarem ponto nas espreguiçadeiras. Há quem deixasse as toalhas nas espreguiçadeiras todo o dia e não as usavam enquanto outros hóspedes que sem ter espreguiçadeiras tinham que estender as toalhas no chão. Todos os funcionários no geral muito atenciosos e prestativos. Experiência a não repetir. Ficamos bastante desiludidos.

Hotel muito bom com jardins muito bem cuidados. Frigobar ineficiente deixando as bebidas inadequadas ao consumo. Ducha de banho excelente.

El trato de los camareros, animadores y recepcionistas

Das Essen war sehr gut und das Personal sehr nett. Die Anlage ist sehr schön und es hat genügend Liegen. Vermisst habe ich eine Wc Bürste. Schade, dass für die Liegen am Strand extra bezahlt werden muss. Trotz all Inklusive musste man gewisse Getränke bezahlen. Die Putzfrauen haben sehr laut diskutiert auf den Zimmergängen, trotz nicht stören Schildern an der Tür.

Todo casi perfecto, pero si quieres descansar después de las 9 de la mañana imposible por el ruido de las camareras de pisos y sus carros. Comentar que las paredes son de papel, como tengas vecinos ruidosos se oye todo. El buffet fue de más a menos, suponemos que por los días de la semana que eran.

Buena playa y hotel, no hay tiendecitas en la zona

En cuanto a la zona del hotel: La playa magníficia, larga y poca gente (mayo) Pocas tiendas (ninguna) en la zona Muy cerca de Portugal Habitación: 3 € al día por usar la caja fuerte. Muy limpia Música hasta las 23:30 aprox Buena piscina Comida: Fuimos solo con desayuno y cenamos un dia (20 €/persona + bebidas) (comda rica y variada pero nada del otro mundo)

Una joya en Isla Canela

Un hotel magnífico, destaca por su ubicación inmejorable frente a la playa y por su piscina y decoración exterior de estilo andalusí. Limpio y cómodo. Personal muy amable. Podrían mejorar el desayuno con bollería artesanal y zumos naturales. La playa de Isla Canela es una joya. Sin duda repetiremos

muy tranquilo en Mayo. Bien de precio - Instalaciones muy buenas. No tuve mucho tiempo pero la impresión fue excelente. No suele ser lo común en la hosteleria de España pero Barceló tiene un nivel superior a otros por lo general.

Terrible! Pas de chauffage dans la chambre.humide

Impossible de dormir avec les draps humides et glacés. Le contrôle de la température est bloqué! Nous avons dû dormir avec nos gilets. La télévision ne capte aucun poste! Propreté mitigée...planchers sales à notre arrivée. Salle de bain OK. Plusieurs équipes de jeunes sportifs font du bruit tard en soirée! Allez partout sauf à cet hôtel!

hôtel agréable ,restauration très bien ( variée, fraiche, adaptée à tous les régimes), situation parfaite pour visiter l'Algarve, plage très agréable au calme en cette saison, seul bémol la literie trop "molle" difficile d'y dormir sans prendre mal au dos

Prachtig hotel met mooi zwembad en zonnetuin.

Mooi hotel met een prachtig zwembad. Het hotel ligt direct aan het strand. Als je iets meer wilt gaan doen is een huurauto gemakkelijk. Op loopafstand is er niet veel te doen wel een prachtig rustig strand. Het eten in het hotel is prima. Er is een hele grote eetzaal dit is nogal massaal. In dit hotel waren vooral Duitse toeristen.

En general, fue una buena instancia... personal agradable, El hotel está bien organizado y limpio... volveré una vez más para poder disfrutar de esta linda, pequeña pero acogedora ciudad..

Sehr gutes Hotel, hilfsbereites Personal, ich war mit dem eigenen Rad unterwegs und konnte dies problemlos in einem separaten Raum unterstellen, Reinigung meiner Reisekleidung war auch am Wochenende problemlos möglich. Sehr gute Lage in Strandnnähe, d.h. man muss lediglich über eine kleine Straße und steht an einem schönen Strand.

El hotel es muy bonito y esta muy bien situado cerca de la playa. Ideal para ir de relax ya que la zona no está masificada. El personal del hotel fue muy amable y las instalaciones correctas

Buenas instalaciones y comida; música atronadora

La música de la piscina - zumba y similar- estaba todo el tiempo de funcionamiento de la misma, un volumen excesivo, lo que no deja relajarse en la piscina ni en los jardines.

Hotel precioso a 1 min de la playa

Estancia de 5 noches, todo perfecto. Gran piscina exterior con bar, actividades ludicas diarias, spa y la playa cruzando la calle. Habitacion amplia con cama enorme y muy comoda. Servicio de calidad y desayuno muy variado con gran buffet. Recomendable al 100%.

Se nota que el hotel es bastante antiguo, necesita una reforma en las zonas comunes, pasillos etc. el que la caja de seguridad no este incluida en el precio deja mucho que desear.

Hôtel très bien si vous recherchez du all inclusive, sinon cher pour les prestations. Bruyant autour de la piscine et dans les chambres du rez de jardin qui sont proches des cuisines. Peu/pas de commerces dans la zone de l'hotel

Tal y como esperabamos

Excepcional la comida del buffet. Horario muy amplio, variedad y calidad por encima de la media de un 4*. Sin duda lo mejor del hotel. Ubicación en primera línea de playa, a un paso de la arena. La habitación era una doble estándar, no tenía terraza sino un pequeño balcón simbólico. El baño era de puerta corredera (no de puerta normal) y no había bañera sino una especie de placa ducha de obra con una rejilla sumidero justo donde te pones debajo de la alcachofa. La verdad es que no está a la altura del hotel.

Estancia fantástica, por poner una pega el tema de las tumbonas de piscina, todas reservadas, aunque está prohibido y el hotel no hace nada.

Situacion buena para la playa y tranquilidad

La estancia ha sido muy buena, media pension, pero un lugar tranquilo, la atencion de camareros y resto del servicio muy bueno y amable, hotel muy recomendable para disfrutar de periodo vacacional

Localización inmejorable

PROS: El hotel se encuentra a menos de 20 metros de la playa, por lo que es ideal para vacaciones de descanso. La piscina es maravillosa e ideal para familias y aunque se echa en falta una zona con más profundidad, permite nadar sin problemas. Las habitaciones son cómodas, amplias y limpias, con mucho espacio para guardar ropa o dejar nuestro equipaje. CONTRAS: La conexión Wi-Fi no es gratuita, lo que para mi es un gran inconveniente. Si bien existe una zona Wi-Fi gratuita en el hall del hotel, es necesario pagar por día de conexión si queremos conectarnos desde la habitación. El minibar se encontraba vacío a nuestra llegada y nadie lo rellenó durante nuestra estancia. Se nos informó mal del horario de la piscina. Nadie nos orientó sobre los servicios ofrecidos en el hotel. La entrada principal del hotel no se encuentra de cara a la playa, sino en la calle de atrás, por lo que para hacer el check in/out nos vimos obligadas a transportar nuestro equipaje por medio de la zona de piscina y bar.
