Beautiful rooms, amazing hospitality and breakfast

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at this lovely bed & breakfast. The room was impeccably clean, and the bed was very comfortable, ensuring we had a restful sleep after a long and exciting day of travel. The property also features a peaceful, spacious backyard with beautiful flowers and sheep, which adds to the charm. Gary and his wife were incredibly kind and attentive, serving us a delicious, carefully prepared breakfast. It included fresh muesli with yogurt, black tea, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, eggs, and toasted bread – a perfect way to start the day. We highly recommend this place for anyone looking for comfort, hospitality, and a serene atmosphere.

Love this place. Gary is the consummate host, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and a delight. We loved our stay here and recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Dover. Oh, and the breakfast 😋😁.

This is a really nice B&B! The owner, Gary, is super friendly and hospitable! He's been in the travel and hospitality business even before the B&B, so he knows what he's doing. He really went out of his way to accommodate. He has good suggestions for activities in Tas, and he also makes a really nice breakfast! The view over the property at breakfast is amazing too! I highly recommend this B&B! I will for sure use it the next time I visit Tas!

Our host Gary made us feel very welcome and had a wealth of information on the ins and outs of Dover. We were in the Africa room fully equipped with a very comfy king bed. Breakfast was amazing, with Bircher and fresh fruit, followed by hot meal. Very happy to recommend.

Excellent host providing great food & rooms

Host Gary is one of the loveliest and most helpful people we've ever met. The breakfast was huge and sumptuous. Everything in town was an easy walk. Hastings Caves are nearby and well worth a visit.

My husband and I stayed for three nights in this lovely B&B. The staff were extremely polite, accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The free breakfasts were incredibly generous and catered to my and my husband's particular food intolerances. The double room with the garden view was spacious, meticulously cleaned and includes complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom area was well organised with a lovely shower and heated towel rack. I appreciate the owners' commitment to eco friendly materials and practices without compromising comfort. We greatly appreciated our hosts' support in allowing and assisting us to prepare our own meals using the charcoal BBQ and utensils they provided from their personal kitchen. We made some delicious food while enjoying the southern Tasmanian ambience. It was a wonderful alternative to the limited number of dining out options in Dover and surrounds.

Ashdowns is a very comfortable B&B in scenic surroundings in Dover. Gary is an excellent host and goes out of his way to make you feel at home during your stay. Our room was immaculate and very comfortable, and lots of nice extra touches are provided. Breakfast was excellent.

The property is beautiful. The unique BnB was extremely comfortable and clean. The host was available when needed and never intrusive. Gary was extremely knowledgeable and made very good recommendations. The breakfast he cooked was scrumptious.

We really loved our stay. We would have loved to of stayed longer! It was comfortable and homely. Breakfast was lovely and Gary made both my kids (20 and 16) feel comfortable by remembering their names and having a good chat with them. Thank you

Gary was an excellent host and so knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was delightful. The room we stayed in was a little small as was the bathroom. Shower gel is always more preferable to soap too. An enjoyable short stay and a lovely property. Thanks for your help Gary!

5 star for every facet of this wonderful accommodation. The hosts are fantastic, the location is beautiful and the breakfast is outstanding. We cannot recommend this place enough, and that comes from a very fussy couple who enjoy the best that life can offer.

A wonderful experience

Gary was so attentive to our needs, and made this stay an absolute pleasure.

This is the best place to stay in Dover. Gary is welcoming and looks after your every need. He will even book your dinner in town as dining options are limited in Dover. The southern part of Tasmania is isolated and it is very interesting to explore. Gary prepares a wonderful cooked breakfast too. He even has homemade tomato sauce. This was our second visit and we will come back again.

Does not disappoint.

This was a wonderful surprise. We do not normally do B&B, but with the good reviews we thought we woud give it a try. Ashdowns did not disappoint. First communication after booking was a welcome, and to find out if we had any specific dietry requirements. On the day of our arrival, Gary sent an SMS to check our ETA and ask if he could book a restaurant for dinner for us. He was very welcoming on our arrival and detailed the features of the property. The following morning, the included cooked breakfast was fabulous. A wide choice and well cooked. Gary is a great host and easy to talk to. Overall a great stay.

Gary was so welcoming and helpful. Was happy to make reservations for dinner and give tips for local area sights. He cooked up an amazing breakfast and introduced us to other travelers. Nice community feel.

Brilliant. Large, private, sunny room. Very comfortable bed. King bedroom is the best. Modern bathroom with heated towel rack. Delicious, generous cooked breakfast. Knowledgeable, friendly host. Great location. Even though it’s on “the main road” it’s super quiet because there’s no cars after 5pm!

What a beautiful place to visit, Gary is so friendly and made us and our little daughter feel right at home.

Excellent service

The room "Africa" was very comfy with a well stocked minibar. Lots of African themes. Excellent breakfast and tea and scones on arrival was an unexpected bonus. Host Garry is very friendly as well as knowledgable. Even made an advance booking at local RSL for dinner. Must add the local RSL is full of interesting memorabilia (as well as people)

The courtesy shown by our host Gary was absolutely first class. Before we arrived we received a text saying our room was ready was looking forward to our arrival. Upon arriving, Gary was accomodating polite and gave us an excellent introduction to his property and then made us tea and scones. The room was clean and comfortable and the property itself kept in an excellent condition. Gary has a wealth of information about the local area and it’s just a pleasure to have a yarn with him and he won’t lead you astray. His breakfasts are of a very generous serving.... you won’t go hungry and Gary has an extensive range of home made jams.(yum). The property is situated close to all amenities in Dover, so good for a stroll and the acreage itself is great with a boundary creek at the rear. I always ask myself would I stay here again if in the area. The answer.. Of course we would.

Our room was updated and very comfortable, especially the bed! We had a beautiful view. Gary is a very good chef, so the breakfast was delicious. He's very friendly, informative, and gave us a tour of his lovely property. This B & B was a great find. Topnotch!

A perfect experience. A perfect B&B. Gary was a fantastic host who went above and beyond for us. The property is beautiful and peaceful, the bedroom pristine, the bed devine and the breakfast stunning! This is my second time at Ashdowns. It is a wonderful advertisement for the south of Tasmania and Tasmania as a whole. (The only gripe we had was that we didn't see a platypus in the brook but I can hardly hold Gary accountable for that ;o) I will recommend Ashdowns to my friends and colleagues. I can't recommend Ashdowns enough. We will return.

Lovely rooms each with their own story. Owners are friendly and super helpful. Gorgeous views. They allowed my 3yr old to feed the chickens and sheep. Massive breakfast provided in the morning. Could not rate high enough! Would absolutely go back again.

There was nothing not to like about our stay. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Nice rural outlook. Gary cooked us a yummy 😋 breakfast and was very knowledgeable about the area and places to visit.

Great hosts Could not do more to make your stay any better. Went way beyond the norm even providing us with an anniverary dinner as other options were closed due to the fires in the area.

Everything was perfect from check-in to check-out. Gary the host was warm and friendly, the room was clean and comfy. The breakfast was amazing, we enjoyed it very much. Gary gave us a tour of his farm after breakfast, we were quite surprised when he told us Topsy the goat was kept as a pet and everything he served us during breakfast was from his farm. We would like to thank Gary for his hospitality and we really enjoyed our stay with him. We would definitely return to stay with him if we ever visit Tasmania again.

It's our first experience to stay in B&B and experience the life of living in a farm house with nice & quiet settings. Breakfast is beautiful.
