This is the second time we stayed at allegro playacar and it was even better than the first time! This time we brought our kiddos (12 & 15) and they had a blast too! Always something to do. The beach was perfect. The food was amazing! And the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We will absolutely be coming back!
The staff was wonderful! they made the experience amazing.
Excellent property with an amazing beach. The room they gave us initially smelled terrible but they quickly relocated us to a different room. The buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was very good. If you stay 2 nights or less you don’t get an option for alacarte. However, I shared that we were celebrating our 28th anniversary and they were able to get us a reservation. We would definitely return!
Beautiful beach. Did not enjoy all the kids in the swim up bar area. Kids should not be sitting on the bar stools while adults have to stand or go somewhere else. Kids constantly splashing and playing on stair handles. Even after being told not to. Maybe no kids allowed in that pool at all.
Small all-inclusive in Playacar - we liked the size compared to some of the larger AIs we’ve stayed at. Fortunately the buffet dining area was very good for all three meals, because to get a reservation at one of the small restaurants was ridiculous (you have to wait in line the morning you want to dine, they start taking reservations at 9:30 but people queue up starting at 8:30am!). Adriana makes a great custom omelet and we loved having Paolo as our server). Pools were nice & clean. Beach area had plenty of chairs. Rooms were a good size and had good AC in our ground floor unit. Entertainment each night was very good. Overall a very casual resort that we enjoyed!
Abel, Umberto, Issac, Elvira, Renee. amazing staff! 😊
Very nice. Friendly staff. Out of the ordinary had lots of rain and a roof leaked.
I loved this resort! Nice and quiet! Hardly any children; not a kids resort. Top shelf food and drinks. Clean cold pools! Perfect! Beach was amazing.
We had a fantastic stay at the Allegro Playacar. The view and beach was stunning. The beach was so clean with beautiful sand and easy access to walk right into the sea. The resort had great food that changed daily with no shortage of options for all preferences. The staff was all very helpful, kind and happy to be there.
This resort is definitely a very pleasant and safe place to visit with the family. The attention of the employees is excellent, there is a great variety in the buffets, and the a la carte restaurants also offer a very pleasant experience. Its location on the beach is perfect and very close to Downtown Playacar.
While the grounds were beautiful, the dining options were limited and repetitive. We spent the first three days without hot water. The TV did not work and the one they replaced it with had a scratched screen and poorly lit picture.
The property needs a bit of updating and a deep clean. Especially chairs in dining area. Scrub between the squares on the backs of the chairs. Love Alejandro, Ricardo, Humberto. We had large beetles in our room. Very frightening in the night going to the washroom and seeing one of them on the floor. Not as good a visit as 5 yrs ago. Alot of the same staff though and we loved that.
Nice place to stay.
Buen resort , playa bien , piscina bien , buena habitación con pequeños desfectos ; buen staff ; buena comida pero puede ser mejor gracias
Dated operations. You have to stand in line every morning to book dinner at the restaurants. The food was nothing spectacular.
We always come back to Allegro when we travel to Playa del Carmen. The staff is always friendly especially Bernardo Bernal and Ricardo in breakfast room. They were very helpful and attentive. The rooms were updated from last time. We love the beach since it’s so close. A recommendation the night shows need to be updated, have more variety.
Only issue with staff not responding to calls
THE BEACH was wonderful - all inclusive was great!!

This property was terrible! Stayed in this resort for 7 nights with my pregnant wife. First issue, the fan in our room was broken from the very first night, so I called maintenance and asked if they can come fix it. They never fixed it. Then our AC broke and leaked a huge puddle of water all onto the floor of our room. Also, our room was FULL of ants all over our things! So we had to keep all our hygiene supplies, clothes, etc. closed and locked away in our luggage. The food was mediocre, little to no activities, low maintenance of the pool, I can go on for a while with issues. For an all inclusive it was an absolute nightmare. For the price you pay here, you can pay the same elsewhere with WAY BETTER quality in every aspect. This resort needs a revamp to compete with the other resorts surrounding it. I personally, will never stay here again. I never leave ratings and I l absolutely hate leaving reviews like this, but this just goes to show how bad of an experience we had. Hope this place improves in the near future for the travelers yet to visit.
The room was nice, but small. The attached mirror was filthy and not all the outlets worked. The walls are so thin and they were renovating the room next to ours so there was no way to sleep in or relax in the room during the day.
Not for young children
Extremely noise! Our room was beside the dally nightmare noise shows. These shoes run until very late night (first night it run until 2am) and it is LOUD! Whomever said this is a family friendly hotel was lying. If you have small children, avoid this place.
It took a very long time to check in. The front desk didn’t find our reservation
Great small property. Thank you Mr. Rodriguez for your assistance.
Checked us into a room with no AC that smelled musty like a wet rag and found several silver fish in the bed. Linens and pillow cases had stains. 1st night stay was miserable, hardly got any sleep. We asked for a room change and they told us to wait until the next day. Next day we had to check out before 12 and couldn’t check back in until 3pm. They had us waiting until almost 4 pm to check us into another room only to find we only had 1 bed for 3 pple not two beds, as promised. They stated it was because housekeeping had to approve of the room set up which was lies because once we walked into the room we were missing a bed, bath mat and 1 towel. Everyday we were there, we had to ask for an extra towel because they would only leave us 2 and not 3, so I had to share a towel with one of my room mates every time I showered. Staff lies and gives a different story every time you ask them for something and I wasn’t asking for much, just working AC and 1 towel per guest. Service in the buffet not so great, they would refuse to serve me coffee even when they had a coffee pot in their hands. I had to go to servers station to get my own coffee. I recommend not staying here but if you choose this place, get a first floor room. 2nd floor rooms have palapa ceilings with holes in them which may be why they are hot, musty and filled with bugs. Beach and pool were nice. Bar staff were good as well. You’re not allowed to get poolside food if you’re wet FYI, makes no sense but there you are.
We had to change rooms after the first night we were there. Our air conditioner didn’t work and plumbing in the restroom was bad. The room we received on our second day was better however, the beds were hard and not comfortable. The food options were decent.
Room was small No hot water for a day Seaweed on the beach Ran out of beach towels by 4pm No entertainment
We had a great time. The lunch buffet was kind of limited but everything was good. The Italian and Mexican restaurants were great. Thanks Sarai for the Marquesitas! The drinks were OK. The house wine was great. The pool and beach were wonderful. But most of all the staff was excellent! There was a little crowd that made our stay really special... Thanks Roberto for the warm welcome and special care. Thanks Jorge (he prepared something special for me because I am allergic to Pineapple). Oscar from entertainment and the waiting staff: Rigoberto Lopez, Victor, Aldair, Daniel, 2 of the Ricardos and the Chef that brought us waya! Lol! Thank you all!
Pretty average. Our room never cooled down to a comfortable temperature so it was hard to sleep. I stayed at a 5 star resort the next night and the difference in food was huge. The food here was really average.
The staff is amazing!!! Only draw back would be air conditioner may or may not work and hot water issues but we went to this resort with this in mind. Over all everything was really good.
Loved it Will be back
This is our second stay there, all the staff are friendly.
Property is pretty outdated. If your are ok with your room being 75deg F after being out in the sun all day, this is a place for you. If not, you are in for a rough vacation. Their ac units will NOT cool below 75 day or night. Buffets options are very limited. Wish I was told that no dinner areas are conditioned. Every dinning area is very not with no A/C
The staff were fabulous. The bathroom was broke 5 of the 7 days in our room and the public ones. The food was not good and very limited.
The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Small resort, but every area was within walking distance which was especially useful when walking back-and-forth from the pools to the room. Food was delicious and there were several options to choose from.
Terrible food
We really enjoyed our stay, it has such a relaxed vibe, no rushing in the morning to get pool or beach chairs, small buffet, but excellent food, stay were pleasant and helpful, stunning beach, we will return
Good size rooms, good food, specialty restaurants were GREAT! Good service and friendly staff. Hats off to Roberto and Alfonso for going above and beyond to assist us-THANKYOU!
Only thing i really dislike is having to wait in line for an hour every time you want to try to go to a specialty restaurant.
Food bery bad not enough options no night life
It was a nice resort, clean, quiet, decent food and drinks. Staff was good for the most part. One crabby bartender at the beach. The waiters & staff at the buffet were great! My only complaint there were no beach towels for a couple hours. Now that i think about it ...it really wasn't that big of a deal. My travel companion loved it there
My husband and I came in Jan of 2024. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and the relaxing resort. Though we had some issues with air conditioning, the staff promptly gave us a new room. The buildings/facilities are starting to show some age, but we felt any concerns were addressed well. We enjoyed the food but were a little disappointed with the restaurants. You have to stand in line at 10 am the day of to make a reservation, and only certain restaurants were open each day. It makes it difficult if you have tours or excursions during the day. The beach is wonderful; some resorts have very little beach but Allegro’s is nice.
The beach was very nice. There are plenty of palm trees and beach chairs and they have 2 pool areas with plenty of chairs. I enjoyed the weather and the place. The food was good enough and there was plenty of food, music all day, activities and warm, clean sea water. What I didn't like was the room. They have nice-looking villas with a beautiful veranda (ours had a beach view) but the bathroom smelled day and night (a urine-like stench), the sheets had stains on them and the covers looked unclean. We did not get fresh towels daily (had to ask.) There was only one towel for the hands and I had to ask them to give me more than one. My daughter's bed was too small and too close to the bathroom with only one blanket. Another blanket was in the closet, but when I used it I noticed it had a large orange stain and it smelled . It also had hair stuck on it. In other words, the location, the beach area and the food were very good but the cleanliness and comfort in the room were not. (One night it rained and the rain came in.)
The beach was awesome the staff was very friendly smaller place so you met a lot of new friends
Rooms are outdated and the dood is average; but the customer service was good and we enjoyed our stay.
Allegro Playacar is a very nice and quiet hotel. We stayed there for Christmas with my husband and two teenagers. The service was amazing. Location is amazing. Downtown is a 15 min. walk. Value is amazing. We would go back there again.
Very limited buffet and ala carte restaurants. Of the 4 at dinner only the buffet and 1 or 2 ala carte were open.
We always enjoy staying here. It is verrry budget so if you are expecting lots of amenities you will be very disappointed. It is an older resort but it is quaint quiet has an excellent beach. Food is good for a small resort. Walking distance to a small plaza just a couple of city blocks away. Staff is kind. You could even walk to 5 th avenue if you wanted. All in all a great experience for us but it is not for everyone. If you are budget conscious you will love it
Upon arrival, my wife and I were greeted by Roberto . Who took care of everything and anything that needed to be taken care of . Including interpreting for our transportation back to the airport also regularly checking up on us throughout our stay.Would have to say he went above and beyond to assure of a GREAT vacation
Food sucked but its a nice place
We had an amazing time at Allegro! We loved the direct access to the beach, and had many relaxing walks by the ocean. All the staff we interacted with were a pleasure. Everyone was attentive, friendly, helpful, and so much fun! Lots of options for food, drinks, and activities inside the resort. We also loved how we could easily walk to town and the market for shopping and more fun. Overall, there’s really nothing bad to say about our experience here, and we’re super excited to make another trip. 10/10 :)
You can sit at the pool and it is so close to the ocean that you get the best of both worlds.
We really loved the property and the way things were set up. The one thing we really missed was having entertainment within the resort such as shows. They don't serve alcohol before 11am and then after 9pm only one bar is open for drinks. We found that evenings were very boring. We also found the food was the same every day. No variety. This is the perfect resort for someone for a good rest, but to have fun and experience music, shows and other fun, you have to leave the resort itself.
Everything was wonderful from the staff to the infrastructure to the amenities were all wonderful. However the water pressure in the rooms is not good at all and even one of the nights the taps weren’t working completely. Nonetheless this hotel is 5/5 would definitely recommend.
Good place
There were not security around the pool when people got drunk!
The ocean was amazing . Helpful staff
This place was awesome, all the food was really good, i wish i could of tried it all. But the food wasnt the only thing great, the service was awesome thanks to Sarai and Petrona, those girls are awesome. Theres a show every night, if u stop by, u got to go see the wonderful bartend Nestor, he will treat you right. The pools are awesome and clean and just a short walk to the beach. I diffently will b back
.
The resort grounds are well kept & except for some seaweed (which is to be expected), the beach is beautiful. Great pools and swim up bar and the staff were very nice. However, the security is almost non-existent! Our door deadbolt was very hard to lock but we weren’t that worried, until one night at 10:30 PM we were awakened by a MAN WALKING INTO OUR ROOM!!! We both screamed and he backed out of the door with a woman behind him! I asked him what he was doing in our room and he said “They gave me a card” and he flashed the key card to show me and said “So Sorry” and he and the woman left. I find that interesting because they don’t user key cards at this hotel, you get a bracelet with a numbered metal medallion on it that opens your door! So I’m concerned this was actually a “staffer” looking for an empty room! I immediately tried to call the front desk repeatedly and NEVER got an answer. We managed to get the deadbolt locked finally and I reported the incident the next morning. They didn’t seem too concerned but said they would have security check it out. Needless to say, we will NOT be staying here again! I’ve traveled A LOT over the last 20 years and this is the first bad review I have EVER left, but I felt everyone needed to be made aware!
Place is not so be big … the beach is speechless very beautiful. All the staff very very friendly. I definitely recommended this place and I would go there again.
Excellent employee
Very rude employees , ac not working fan not turn on no water pressure for shower the worse food you can try on any all inclusive hotel , hotel need more maintenance. Trust me try any other hotel before go to this one .
Allegro Playacar Hotel was a terrible Hotel. They don't see me any more: -!st Checking sent me to a busy Room -2nd. Checking sent me to a room with holes in the siling (leaking rain, bathroom window broken) -3rd. Checking sent me to a room with problems with the Shower drain(shower water didn't go through (it took 4 days to fix it), safebox broken. -Bad Food preparation services, No variety. Deli stuff same every day, Bread not fresh, etc) - No A/C in Buffet Restaurant (crazy) - Pool in bad maintenance conditions (Dirty). The Pool Bridge needs urgent maintenance. It is going to fall down. -Entertainment activities are very poor. This is my 3rd. Time in Playacar (Riu Hoteles) and my family and I had a very bad time in this Hotel, so we left early 2 days before my check out. Unbelievable ! We lost our Money and Time. I never will recommend this hotel somebody I have took to a Expedia Representative at the 1st day we arrived for more than 40 minutes And nothing happened because as he told me, hotel has” A No-Refund Police”. I closed my Expedia App. It is a “Shame “ to sell some kind of Hotel. Thanks.
AC WAS BROKE
The food we thought was sub par. We have been at many all inclusive resorts in Mexico and this by far we would rate as the worst one. Having to make dinner reservations for the restaurants sucks, especially when they only allow you 1 reservation for a 4 night stay. When we did attend the dinner, the place was 1/4 full. Why not allow people to make multiple reservations? Makes no sense especially when your buffet sucks. Your air conditioners in the rooms suck. In Mexico in the summer those units need to run cooler. No matter how low we turned it down, the temp never changed.
The food is of the lowest quality. No air conditioning in many of the rooms, we had to change rooms 5 times. Snacks are days old croissants and muffins and cheap hotdogs. Entertainment is mediocre. The place is old and rundown. Lucky if you get hot water. Staff is wonderful!
The people, they made me feel like a queen. Great service, all the employees made me feel unique. Thank you
This property show's well on the web - but its a trap. From the second you get there, they grab you for the presentation against your will. After that, we checked out the pool - it was dirty! Then the food, it was very poor quality. It was within 30 mins of arrival we decided to we didnt want to stay there. They would not let us go (the Front Desk Manager, Lulu) and refused to let us change hotels. Offered no help! It was after 3 hours of battle with the front desk that the GM stepped in and actually helped. He offered to let us go with a 1 nights penalty, which I disagree with since we were not even checked in yet! Overall - the front desk manager needs some serious hospitality training. I asked her 'dont you want your guest to be happy' she shrugged and said 'what do I care?' have a very very close look at the reviews... all are brand new and fake. dig, and you will find the real reviews.
The hotel is pretty nice and everything could’ve been great if it wasn’t for their AC problem. Many customers including my husband and I had to request many times for someone to either fix the AC or switch us to a different room and after 3 attempts of switching us around we got a room that worked but it was a lot having to go tell them about the AC issues too often.
We arrived at this property to find it extremely dirty. The pool had a film on top and the bottom of the pool was slimy. The food was subpar at best, there wasn’t anything available that I was willing to eat again. We were told at checkin that we were only allowed to make a reservation at 1 of the 4 restaurants at the resort and would otherwise have to eat at the buffet, that rule was not published anywhere. We were told when we tried to check in that they didn’t have any pool towel tickets available, so we had to sit there with children for several hours with them refusing to give us a towel. They don’t have any brand name liquor. The only air conditioning available was in the rooms, which we never saw since it wasn’t ready upon checking in. After hours of fighting with management we got them to agree to cancel our stay so that we could go to a better resort. The beach was the best part about the resort, otherwise I would stay FAR away.
No air condition only in room no smoking area pool dirty food rating 4
My 3rd time there A
I did not like the Green Areas maintenance hours; they started really early in the morning; there was a lot of noise from the bush and grass cutters
We loved our stay the staff was amazing and very helpful. bit shout outs to Victor, Maria, Luis, Betty, Mike, Carlos, and many more that I am sure I forgot. The hotel although older was very well kept and comfortable. Our only complaints were the loud music from the neighboring hotel at night. We did wish the food at the buffet was a little better, there wasn't much of a change in selections, and no flavor at all. At breakfast you had the option of cooked to order eggs/omelet's, would suggest strongly that you load up. Dinner was a real disappointment most nights. Activities and pools where very enjoyable, but we made the most of the day trips out. you can walk 5 minutes outside the hotel to a small shopping plaza, that was a bit over priced, but everything we found is negotiable. Or take the 30 min walk to 5th Ave, tons of shopping, food, music take the ferry over to Cozumel for the day. There are also ruins to explore the walk to 5th ave. make a full day of it so much to see and do. We are already planning our next trip back.
So overall it's a good family spot to stay at. If you're looking for a wild time, definitely find another location because the nightlife is dead here. The only reason I had to give a lot rating was because my room was not functioning properly. There were a lot of things wrong with it that made the experience less enjoyable. For starters, our TV remote didn't work at first. They did come to fix it but I'm gonna mention everything that was wrong. The phone did not work for reaching the front desk so I constantly had to walk there to fix things. The safe was broken and we didn't get a working one till hallway through the trip. The shower leaked horribly and covered the whole bathroom floor with water. Also you have to get up say like 9 and wait in line for like 30 minutes if you want to make any reservations for the restaurants. We waited one morning and was told they ran out of spots so our time and sleep was completely waisted. These are the things I did not enjoy. I did like the couples massage we got and the excursion. Plus the complimentary trip to 5th avenue! The food was pretty good and I liked the unlimited drinks. A beautiful resort just need to work on room maintenance and reservations.
Common Bathrooms were very dirty or not working. There were only 3 waiters that were pleasant, the rest were rude.
Excellent time
Considering the price for this hotel, there weren't any negatives for this all inclusive. I was pleasantly surprised, because I know when regarding hotels you get what you pay for. However, the service was excellent, everyone was so friendly and made us feel right at home which is important for me. Also, the food and drinks were great! I'm a harsh critique of food at all inclusive hotels, but again, for the price, the food here was very good. The rooms aren't huge but thats okay, we didn't spend much time in there anyway. The beach was well kept, lots of fun things to do at the hotel, and within walking distance of shops and things to do outside of the hotel. Very good affordable place to stay and enjoy the beach ❤️ Definitely will be back soon!
The Allegro was amazing! Our family agreed this was our best vacation ever! The facility, the service (Umberto was amazing in customer service!), the setting, the food and drinks, the shopping and other activities nearby--everything was wonderful! We will go back as soon as we can. We had one issue with cold water while we were there (pipes burst outside the facility, but after the fix, it took a while before we were able to have a shower without only scalding hot water), but even then, they worked diligently to make everything right. We would highly recommend the Allegro to everyone!
Not at all what we expected. Tolerated for 4 days, but not planning on going back there again. :(
Don't get me wrong, we have been to Allegro more than 10 times, but if you are high maintenance or expect perfection it is not for you. Our room was a little run down (light switches not working, bed linens a little raggedy), no hot water, and no response to our request to fix water. However, this resort is right on the beach. There is a lively pool bar closest to the beach and a quieter pool on the opposite side towards the lobby. Outdoor buffet with excellent food from 12-5. The servers are warm and friendly and the food is good. There are only about 250 rooms. We have never gone in May and the resort was about half full - perfect!
We had a wonderful stay and the staff was exceptional and the food options were delicious.
Be sure to request a room on the first floor. The second floor is thatched roofing that clearly didn’t work so they put nets in. We had geckos crawling around the walls.
There was no water every day, the events that took place at the hotel were very noisy, for those who went to relax, it ends up being stressful, the buffet food had no variety, very greasy. Staff is very kind, especially Ulisses at check in, it seems that only he works at the reception 😂 he is always available, he should receive a job promotion.
For the first 3 days we were at the resort our room would have no running water for a portion of the day. Front desk was dismissive and offered no solution. Finally on the 4th day when we didn't have water for approx. 3 hrs and were going to miss dinner reservations because of it we needed to get a manager involved to offer a solution because at that point front desk was simply not even answering our calls. The sales team is also so aggressive with their nonstop harassment it’s hard to even walk by the lobby without having to listen to a sales pitch. I would not recommend this property. Playa del Carmen has too many options. Keep looking for a better stay.
I would NOT recommend this resort to anyone. On the third day there, the entire place had no water to shower, it happened around 6pm and it didn’t come back until about 9pm but when it did, I wasn’t even able to wash my hair because of the pressure. The next morning, there was only boiling hot water.
Everything okay
The staff were amazing. Bernardo was the best. He was so attentive and took care of all of us.
Nice and quiet hotel with a friendly staff.
I have stayed at Allegro 4 times. This stay was disappointing. The best things: The bartenders, servers, and housekeeping, were fabulous! Ricardo, made our trip.. what a gem for Allegro to have on their staff. The food was awesome, and always fresh.. hats off to the chef and the kitchen staff! The items to improve: The staff at reception was non responsive to guests with issues. They would write things down and basically do nothing. We lost AC 3 days in, 10 times to reception, i asked for manager. It was determined that this AC needed a part that would take 4 days. We were moved to a room with AC however; this room was a storage room and had mold. Day 2 on this room, the sink pipe sprung a leak and we spet 2 hours cleaning up water. Lunna did offer a massage for my sister and I, very nice gesture, but after all the crap, i think they could have done more. Our last day, that AC went out, room smelled more like mold and the condensation on the floor was so slippery we had to use all our towels just to walk around. Beyond disappointed with the upkeep on this property, as many guests were complaining about no AC, no hot water, etc. i really hope the Barcelo puts some money into this place as it has so much character and charm but desperately needs maintenance and up keep.
All of the staff were very friendly and amazing.
It is laid out very well. Everything flows smoothly
Too many to name. From tea colored water in the sink I could go on. It was like camping on a beautiful beach.
We were pleasantly surprised with this place. The food was great the service was excellent there were always things to do and activities going on. They pay attention to detail. They take care of issues well. I will definitely be going back!
All good except on 2 of the 5 days , their was no hot water : also the air conditioner was temperamental.
the view of the sea
The resort was super clean with really friendly staff. The beach was perfect. We loved that it was a smaller resort not as much walking to get places. The Mexican restaurant was amazing. We would definitely go back here again!
Room was big, pool and beach areas are nice. You can use the hotel before and after check-in times - happy for that! Reception didn't even mention our room number when we checked-in but was very helpful when I needed them. To book what's called "special restaurants" you have to stand in line at 10 am to book it. We went to the Italian restaurant and the food was bad as in as in the buffets (lasagna was totally undercooked). Unfortunately the food was not what I expected - very American/industrialized - not at all the quality you have in any Mexican restaurant (breakfast buffet quality was better than lunch/dinner).

Very
