Better than I expected from the reviews. The room we had was great, well furnished and clean. There were 5 of us and it was sufficient. It was hard navigating the hostel and the only problem we had was getting in the room which was like a series of puzzles, trying to figure out how the code works and such. The Mirador mansion itself was pretty sketchy, but once you get inside the Venetian hostel it didn't seemed so bad. Other than that, it was a great hostel for it's price. Would recommend getting the deluxe room with the city view for families.
Not Good Hotel
worse place to stay. no security, unhealthy.
plumbing problem, toilet not working. no bathroom supplies. no daily room makeup. no customer or room service. could not recommend this place.
cleanliness is excellent & location is excellent,
hotel did not impose any resort fee. However they kept deposit of HKdollar 100 which refunded at the time of departure.Toilet is in a little higher level from the room which is very inconvenient particularly for senior citizens. Otherwise rooms are in order.
Great experience
The room was very clean though a it was small. Front desk is great. Really took good care of me.
rooms good but floor planning and service is bad
Rooms are ok but only problem is you should go to 13th floor to collect the key for check in and rooms are in 7th floor, it is a very problem to take your baggage from ground floor to 13th floor and again back to 7th floor, because it is a apartment mansion, so public usage is more in apartmantal service, if anyone can take care your belongings without help to move up and down it is ok.
add $100hk
There is a single hotel with a large group of names including the Venitian hotel , in the same building. When checking in a person has to pay $100hk extra - which is not mentioned in the hotels.com hotel page. There are very few rooms with outside windows - most are inside, facing a vent, no daylight.
Cheap, clean, convenient.
Room small but clean. Bed comfortable. Good to have own shower and toilet facilities. Good to have air-conditioning (though very loud), and wi-fi facilities. Good for the price you pay. Convenient location, very close to MTR.
Basically a prison cell
Showed up to check in and was told I was being charged another 100 hkd because I booked through expedia, as a resort fee. The confirmation email I had received never mentioned this but they brought up the listing on their office computer and showed me where it was written down near the bottom. While only a one time fee that works out to ~$15 if you're just staying a few nights this does increase the cost by a not insignificant percentage. The room itself was shockingly tiny. Would estimate it at 4'x12', including a 4'x4' bathroom, pretty much unnaceptable by anyone's standards. Bed was at a maximum 6 feet long, with the most uncomfortable mattress I've ever used. Having your own bathroom is nice given that a lot of places of this nature would just have a single one shared between multiple rooms. The room itself was relatively clean but the mirador mansion, the complex the hotel is located in, is pretty disgusting. Elevators are weird, different ones service different floors and they take a long time. Relatively straightforward on the way up but I found myself just taking the stairs on the way down out of impatience. there are at least 4 stairwells in the building, which is a good thing, because in terms of occupancy/sq ft the building would never pass any North American fire code, but they keep it from being a total death trap. Bottom line is its simple far too expensive even given the location, for how poor everything else was. Stay away.
Please dont stay in a shopping mall !
I had an extremely horrible experience when I arrived at the Venetian Hostel. The hostel demanded that I pay additional resort fee . It was a hostel and by no dimension a resort and hence the resort fee seemed absolutely inappropriate. Also the hostel did not have an office of its own and operated through the office of another hostel called USA Hostel. The hostel also was very unsafe for single women travellers as there were a lot of men standing outside selling illegal goods like watches and bags. The men made lewd gestures at women who were entering the building. Also the hostel is located within a shopping complex that single women travellers realize what they are getting into. The building has clothes hanging everywhere and very fishy surroundings I did not stay at the hotel and continued to proceed to another hotel and stayed for another 4 nights and had no complains there.
Cheap, and a place to lay your head. That is all.
It was not an easy place to find. At all. But it added to the experience (to look on the bright side.) After locating the office, I was impressed with being guided to the room. The room was tiny, but clean. Would I recommend it? No. Stay in a hotel in Central Hong Kong. It's where you want to be. The Star Ferry stops running at 11 pm and a taxi ride home is a god 70-100 HKD.
Dirty and narrow! No window! Wet and dark!
My worst choice ever. It was in a old reaidential building and full of terrible people. Small, slow, crowdy and narrow lifts. Most rooms have no window at all. It even charged me extra hkd100 service fee for room cleaning which only simply change your dustbins. Do not live in here unless you are homeless.
Dirty
The condition of my room was actually terrible. It was very dirty. I found many bugs. In addition, the smell was unpleasant. I do not want to use this hotel.
the price is fair to the codition of the hotel.
Very small room
no lock in bathroom door..ac is okay....no space to walk.no drinking water...poor wifi, small room small room small room small room small room small room small room small room small room small room
very bed
Room given very bed , service is also very bed .
Good for one night to stay and shopping.
be asked to pay RMB100 for extra. Location is very good!
Good enough
Good enough. Cosy, convenient, clean and fair-priced.
Budget hotel in good location
I've stayed at Venetian Hostel plenty of times before. The single rooms are a hit or miss. Some are fine (though small), while others aren't so good. Now, I always book a double room, which, so far, have been alright and give you much more space than a single. Still, the double bed takes up most of the space. Regarding the TVs, some are bulky 1980s models, while others are new flat screen TVs. The location is ideal, right in the middle of Tsim Tsa Tsui. But the building that contains the Venetian is busy. Sometimes lots of people are waiting for elevators.
Hong Kong Venetian Hostel review
Maybe suitable for someone who is on a tight budget!
Digusting place, good location
This is literally just a place for sleeping if you're on a budget. We had a bathroom in our room, but it was made of glass walls. You walk past the trash section of the building before reaching your room. One of the most disgusting places I've ever stayed in my life, but was cheap. Will spend the money for a normal room elsewhere next time in HK.
not bad for HongKong
keep in mind that this hotel is in Miramar Mansion, so TINY rooms and byzantine corridors and weird elevator systems, rooms down myriad passageways on many floors main objection is I was charged $100 HK in ADDITION to Expedia fee - and told this was for internet, laundry and luggage storage (NONE of which I needed as I was there about 18 hours total) - and that it was a charge shown on Expedia, though Expedia told me Paid in full including hotel charges, taxes, etc
Small but all needs met.
It was great and in good location.
NEVER AGAIN
I'm not satisfied at all. very unfriendly.. the place is dirty.. the room is very small. no tv connection.. the bathroom is very small.
Please avoid this place
The photos on Expedia were really misleading. My room was tiny with only room for a single bed, and a tv dangerously hanging above it from the ceiling. and nothing else, The staff were really rude and hated working there, and as soon as I arrived charged extra above what I had already paid. Towels, shampoo and hairdryer are charged extra.too. I didn't sleep because it was really noisy. The shared bathroom was full of beer cans and cigarette ends, and hadn't been cleaned in a long long time.
room
venetian hostel i stay the triple room is still ok , but the bed very hard , bathroom very small and the door cant to lock, and no hv hot water supply. Location is ok in front building hv shopping mall , mrt station , mc donald , 7 eleven and .......
sm clean & good location
Rating this hostel would require keeping in mind the very high real estate costs of HongKong. This hostel was very well-located (Nathan & Mody in Central), is above retail establishments, amongst other hostels, offices, etc. Security was surprisingly good, the room was surprisingly clean -- very small and compact. Thankfully, we had our own bathrm (plexiglass so illusion of space still; this was well-sealed and clean). This was not a luxury suite, but very basic and clean. Unfortunately, due to renovations outside, we had to be out of our rooms fr 11 am- 6 pm -- not a problem for us, as we wanted to be out shopping & sight-seeing anyway. We were asked to pay HKG$100 upon check-in (resort fee), which we didn't expect. Also a refundable HKG$100 fee for the room key.
We couldn't stay there...scary
Horrible. We couldn't sleep there and had to get another room.
i can only say ... worst!
First of all that can not be called a hotel, that is the most horrible place that i ever stay in my life.
good location but minimum comfort
good location but room is very small, I have to change room because the TV is not working and the shower is leaking in the first room, since the room is comparable cheap, you get what you pay for
Venetian hostel
Arriving was a bizzare expeience -Firstly having to use the shared entance hallway and lifts with another 400 other busines organsiations. Secondly the address we were told to go to was on the 14th floor and once we had found the exact address on the 14th -a sign basially said the reception is on the 13th floor-we then checked in -one incredbly rude recptionsist sat next to a more polite young girl who i think was embarrsed to be working with the rudest man in china. oh yes our rooms we were then told were on the 8th floor --I was with 2 other blokes but imagine a famiily with loads of bags having to traipse up and down the floors -not good ! I was dredading the worse form here on in -since i had been warned belatedly (having already booked the accomodation) that Mirador Mansions is the worse distrtict to be staying in the whole of Hong Kong! The Ventian Hostel was not as bad as that -redeeming feature was that the rooms were clean and beds hard but thatt was fine-my air con worked but the second room we had they did not. the Rooms were tiny and although we knew they would be small -the photos make them look bigger than they are -and the walls are preety thin so you can hear neighbours chattiing on the phone --all in all very poor -yes its cheap -but there must be better value in Hk !
our venetian experience
The place is accessible to rides, MTR, and to commercial and shopping centers. You have to try this place to experience for yourselves tyne place and surroundings.
Cheap, good location
If you want cheap place to stay with good location this is ok. Is't not comfortable, only for sleeping in my opinion...
Cosmopolitan Hotel
We found the location only a short walk along the free way to street markets and food outlets. Excellent service and courtesy from all staff.
Venetian Hotel
I booked a room and I got a bathroom. It was lying right up to the office, where people where checking in and out. So there was a lot of noise and a feeling of very little privacy. I will definately never stay there again.
Average Hotel!!!!!
Hotel is very close to MTR Station which is perfect to get around the area. But the problem is the Internet connection in your room! It's not always working, tried it may times and end up just not trying it again. My stay was fine since the area is very near the shopping malls, restaurants and MTR Station.
Great Location, Great Price!!!
Stayed in 3 rooms across 5 days, some nicer than others, but for the price you can't beat it. Staff is very nice and helpful. Seems pretty secure with police downstairs at night and cameras throughout the building. It's not the Ritz, but you already know that since you're looking around in this price range. I stayed in private rooms so I can't vouch for the dorms. Depending on how lucky you are, you might have a window, wifi in your room, your own bathroom, and a working tv. The hotel is part of several hotels under one management, so the rooms are on several floors. All in all, if I come back to HK on the same budget, I would stay here again without hesitation. Remember though, you get what you pay for, so if you are used to and expecting nice rooms like a usual hotel, you are looking in the wrong place. Great budget hotel, would book again.
Venetian Hostel discomfort
Exceptionally small room , luggage had to stand up-right next to bed. NO WINDOW. Surprise, additional 'resort" charge . NOt recommended!
Good for a hostel
As far as the very basic guest houses/hostels in Tsim Sha Tsui go, this one was better than average. For a very cheap price, the room was comfortable and the environment felt safe.
venetian kowloon
I would not suggest to those who have kids joining them or those who have lung problems. But it does gives a good experience of a mansion experience.
You get what you pay for
I stayed in a "deluxe room". Hot water showers are only available between allocated times. Main lifts stop working at 10PM. Two lifts: one stops only on every odd numbered floor, the other stopping at the even numbered floors. Despite making a booking for two rooms in the same transaction, one room was on level 10 whilst the other on level 7. One of the Deluxe Double rooms, could not fit two suitcases. As soon as you walked in there was a space for one suitcase and then the foot of the bed. The photos do not show an entire bed for a reason. The bathroom is extremely small with no designated shower space, when you turn on the shower head the entire bathroom will become wet and will remain so for a couple of hours. Some of the staff there are very nice.
good price hostel
Nice place and good rate. near subway station and good price.
Stay here if this is all you can afford
If you have any luggage, you will have to drag it along .... the elevator access is horrible .. stand in line for a while ... them the room .. its litterally the size of a closet .... a TV tsand is hanging ... but no TV ... I could barely place the two suitcases besides my bed .. then had to climb over them to get in and out ... But I was pleased to have wifi included ... plus the location of this "guest house" is very convenient Bottom line - If you can afford a better place , go for that ...
*WARNIG* Dont Stay Here
Were should I start? "NO WINDOW", there was no Heater and the room was very cold! Second, the bed was as hard as sleeping on the floor, no box-spring, just a wooden box the mattress sits on! Third, they tell you the time when you can take a shower *SERIOUS* and there's little Hot Water! *WARNIG* Dont Stay Here!
Bad quality hostel with small rooms & zero comfort
This hostel rooms look pretty much like military basement, with 0 comfort, very small rooms, some of those (like our) having shower & toilet in the coridor !!! A room of our friend had window nailed up with wooden bars instead of glass windows, some of those wooden bars were broken and the ventilation channel inside part was seen through their holes... Very bad experience, the worst we had in all countries all over the world for around 20 years of international travel experience upto now.
Hong Kong
We arrived with major renovations going on next to office and thought oh no not one of those stays but staff assured us we wouldn't be disturbed by noise and they were absolutley right, got a room on the 13th floor been recently done up tv on the blink but who cares we spent all our time out.. all in all for the money its ok cause Kwoloon is a money hungery machine with lots out to catch ya. Next time round will avoid this area and go somewhere less hectic.
Just know what to expect...
The receptionist was very formal and a little unpleasant. The room was fine, given that we're talking about a hostel (wallpaper peeling round the edges, etc., but otherwise OK). The building itself is a massive apartment building hosting small businesses, hostels and residential apartments. It feels quite dodgy, and in some parts quite smelly, but I didn't feel unsafe. When I was walking around it late at night (a very central and very accessible neighborhood) I got quite a few offers by working girls. All this could be part of the travel experience, but only if you know what to expect. You The internet kept disconnecting, and eventually stopped working altogether.
Venetian Hostel
Hostel location is superb but the hostel management did not arrange for us the rooms that we have requested. Instead given us 3 bedrooms with bunk beds (10 persons) but only one bathroom/toilet to use. We stayed very uncomfortably for 5 days 4 nights. We have actually requested for kings bed but were short-changed by the Hostel management. No drinkable water provided. The hostel housekeeper actually took the tap water and refilled it into the water dispenser container. Towels not changed daily. No internet access in the room as promised. Did not want to provide the necessary toiletries, must demand then give. In that case, they should not ask for resort fees, per room is HK$100. All in all, there is no hostel service provided to their guests so I will never recommend the VENETIAN HOSTEL to anyone unless you are desperate.
Location
Excellent location, convenience to MTR, bus stop, ferry terminal, shopping center, restaurant, fast food
NICE LOCATION WORST EXPERIENCE EVER
NEVER COMING BACK TO THAT HOSTAL, ITS NOT A HOSTALITS LIKE A PRISION OR WORST
Major improvement needed
Do something to improve. Internet was broken when we tried to access and we need to go to the common area which is the hallway to get access. We need to stand and hold our laptop, and wait for the slow connection.
Vetian Hostel in Hongkong
I would not recommend this Hostel to anybody. Terrible service and dirty. No hot water.
Venetian GUEST HOUSE (not hotel)...
Stay here only if you're desperate and have no other options. I paid for two nights but checked out after the first night. My room did not have a window at all (despite being led to believe I had a "city view". I felt like I was suffocating due to the absence of air in the room - which was an awful feeling when being exhausted from a long flight. Having said that- the staff were friendly etc and the room reasonably clean despite being a tiny windowless box. The guesthouse is in a pretty good location in Kowloon, close to many nearby attractions as well as the ferry to get across the harbour. There was an eclectic mix of people from around the world staying at the hotel which was kind of interesting but not enough to stop me from checking out and moving to the Peninsula down the road... enjoy HK!
not impressed
better not to go
It's all about expectations?
There are 2 upsides. Price and location. The price can't be beat. And located right next to the Tsim Tsa Tsui MTR station is fantastic. Just remember that this is a hostel.
Definitely value for money. First two nights we didn't have towels in our room but since it was a budget hotel, we assumed it wasn't part of the service. Good thing we brought our own towel. Third night, we got towels. They clean and fix the room daily. Staff are honest and nice. The sliding door of our bathroom kept falling though. There's a water dispenser at the hall, and fast internet service. It's also a hop away from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station which makes commuting very convenient. Very satisfied with my exeperience.
Hidden because it is bad?
First of all Venetian hostel in HK is extremely hard to find. When I finally found the Mirador Mansion I was only half way to find the reception. On the ground floor there is a market where a lot of Indian people want to sell anything from tailor made suits to chinese visas. If you just want to know the way to the hotel they probably show you one of their shops instead. I went up with the elevator and found an internet bar on the 10th floor where I once again checked the floor and part of the floor the hotel was at. After I went to the right floor where I still hade to walk around for a while before I saw the tiny little door where it said Venetian Hostel, reception on floor 13. Then I went to the 13th floor and walked around a little before I asked someone at USA hostel. They told me that it was the right place so I just wonder why they call the places with different names. When I checked in there was a mandatory extra fee of 100hk$ for using internet and when I got to my room the internet didn't even work. Also the room was very small and not very clean so if you want it cheap you should know that this is what you get, and it is more expensive than you think!
Venetian Hostel
We arrived past 12 midnight because of our late flight. Unfortunately, the front desk of this hotel is closed from 12 MN until morning. After knocking on the door for over an hour and asking help from the building administrator's office, the manager finally arrived to let us into our reserved room. Moral lesson: if you want to stay in this hotel, do not get a flight that arrives past midnight!
The room was very small and without window, but it was more or less clean.
perfer location
perfer location in jian sha zui, 2 min walk to subway, clean room, no better than it at this price. do not expect to much
noise!
The room is small, and the air-condition made the noise.
The good and the bad -
Good: location for sightseeing and shopping. free internet connection and water from dispenser in the hallway. Very good daily room cleaning. Bad: check in and out because you need to go to a different floor to do it. Bad TV connection - out of service for three days. No wallpapers on part of the wall.
The Venetiam Hostel is the same place as USA Hotel
Nice location, but so small space.
First impression lasts
I was so disappointed with this hotel. I have a reservation 2 mos. in advance. I informed the hotel that my arrival is so late, 12 midnight. I asked if its okay to check-in during this time. We had a hard time finding the hotel, because it actually didnt exist in that building. We have to go around the building, up and down, only to find out that several hostel in the building were owned by the same person. We could not find the name Venetian Hotel in the area, but instead, USA hotel. The manager have no manners. He didnt let us checked-in during that time- we were already too tired and sleepy from the trip. He dismissed us by waving his hands away, as if we were dogs standing in front of him, begging to be given a room, even if we will pay for an additional fee. My booking date is June 12, I reasoned out that its almost 2 am, June 12, but he dismissed us saying, its still June 11. I begged for a room, but he had no manners and dismissed us by waving his hands out. His receptionist was also a Filipino. I expected she will be sympathetci enough to help us secure a room, but like his boss, she has no manners also. During our whole stay, we did not seen her smile, always wearing a frown on her ugly face. I was very thankful for the indian guy who walked in the hallway and smile at us and asked us if we were alright. H helped us secure a room with the other hostel, also located in the same building. The owner of this hostel take advantage of our plight and charged us, twice the amount the room we have booked previously. I requested for a discount since we will only be staying for a few hours and will be transferring to the "Venetian". I think that the Indian has a cut with the payment, but we were too weary to complain. I was so dismayed with the hostel, and promised myself, I would never go back and would not recommend it to any of my friends.
Nothing but disappointment
What you see in the photos is nothing like what you get. The room is small which of course is to be expected for the price, but there are no windows and if you have a suitcase/backpack then there is no floorspace. Had to switch room as the first had visble mold all over the walls, while the second one had a very strong smell of paint that didn't go away as there is no ventilation. Staff didn't speak much English and communicating was a problem. There is a control panel in the corridor that has switches for the power to each room, and a few times I would wake up during the night to find my Air Conditioning off and the lights not working. The staff frequently turned the power off and knocked on my door all hours of the day, even when I was trying to sleep. The entrance to the building is crowded with gangs of people trying to sell you stuff and blocking your path inside. Very annoying and not something you get use to. The place may be cheap, but it was a nightmare. Hong Kong doesn't have many middle priced places , but if you are there for more than 1 night avoid this place and pay the extra for somewhere better.
Not staying there again
I had stayed here before on my own in a single room - it was small but clean and funtional. This time I booked a 'deluxe family room' for myself, my wife and sister-in-law. The room was small, ok I expected that, relatively clean but it was not well maintained, the bathroom in the single room that I stayed in last time was very small but at least it was clean and useable but this one was tired and poorly layed out - when I sat on the toilet my right thigh was up agaist the wall and my knees touched the glass paine in front! The 'wireless internet' provided free was more like 'useless internet' - it was ok for a little while early in the morning but other times I couldn't even receive my emails properly let alone browsing!
not impressed
water coming in from other room everyday, phone don't work, if I need service I need to go up to 13th floor, I stayed on 8th floor. I need to dry the floor everyday so my things will not get damage. but for the price what can I say,and the location is good convenience to all.
I am happy with the Hotel Rate for my present stay.
It is good for travellers to find a Low Hotel Rate room to sleep and shower after spent whole day shopping & sighseeing. This Hotel Location is the best location at the central part of the City. You can get all kinds of Transportation Service Just few steps from the Building. You can find placeses to eat and shopping with walking distance ( Cheap or Expensive).
cheap rooms, good location
for sure there are better places to stay... but if all you need is a place to spend the night which isn't located in the middle of nowhere, then this hostel is definitely worth considering. yes there are a bunch of strange folks hanging around the entrance to the building. yes you can take a dump while showering. but as long as that doesn't bother then you then by all means give this place a try. less than 5 minutes away from the MTR station and lots of good food in the area.
Warning Warning
Bad management. Bad quality. Overcharge me for a so called 'Resort Fees' when you check in without explaination and never would return the said 'Resort Fees' when you check out. How can you charge your customer a 'Resort Fees' when you are actually staying in a city 1 star hostel of less than 100 square feet?
Very Very bad waste of money
Either you or your luggage can live in their room , staff behavior was very bad as you were living their free of cost even their are many other hostels in same building available in very low cost
Venetian hotel
Not a gd place to stay coz d surroundings made feel insecure, n i accidentally open a room which can open my room too! no phone in d room, no shower gel n shampoo provided!
Bad experience!
After reading other reviews & I thought what a great price for an ok hotel. I sent my parents there thinking that 3 stars is fine but they told me that the room was filthy! Thank God they only had to stay for several days!
Venetian Hostel
Although the venetian hostel has a good location, the condition of the bad. The towels they provide have holes and beds have bugs that will make your skin itchy. The TV is in a bad condition, only one channel can be seen properly. This is the worst hostel ever in my whole life, I will never book this hostel ever again, now i have skin problems after staying there.
Convenient hotel
It is located very convinient place,so we can go shopping easy and near ferry Terminal.
Good the hostel at Nathan Ed.
The hostel is very good for us. They have key card for first door it good security.
not bad. but you must pay additional 100 HKD to check-in.
if u dont want to pay additional 100HKD ,not refundable, you shouldnt chose this hotel. the room with bathroom is not bad. but the hot water supplying is limited. The location is very good since it is located at central city.
Scamming Tourists
They asked for a $200 deposit and then at check out said $100 was a "resort fee" and refused to give it back!
Very good location, singular place to stay.
The first thing, if you are used to the word "Hotel", you must have in mind that this is an "Hostel" I mean, I realize now that this word implies adventure. With this in mind I can say that the Hostel is in an old building, there is no lobby or something like that, the main entry to building is not nice in any sense. Once in the room, small in superlative way, obviously need maintenance in various aspects, very noisy. Pros- Very good location (Golden Mile in Nathan Road, immediately Tsim Sha Tsui MTR), safe place, you can leave with confidence the Lap in the room (just advice in advance to the Front Desk), private bathroom, you can ask for an extracleaning process to the service personnel (extra money of course). So I can recomend the place for the Pros, just have in consideration that this is not an "Hotel" and the price is very good if you get in mind that we are talking about Hong Kong.
Better than others for this price
The lady at reception was nice, efficient and cute! The hotel location is VERY convenient, right on Nathan Road, right in the heat of Tsim Sha Tsui. The room was small, but it had an attached toilet/shower room with hot water (except early in the morning when everyone else is also taking a shower). Everything was clean, the linens were changed daily, and the place was quite considering its location in Tsim Sha Tsui. When I asked to borrow an iron, she made one available to me, although I had to go her (or someone else's) apartment to use it. They also did my laundry for me, although you can probably have it done cheaper elsewhere; and she doesn't iron. For cheap hostel-style place to stay, the Venetian is very decent. The things that matter to me--cleanliness, reasonable service, a decent night's sleep- were there. I recommend this hotel if you're willing to put up with travel up and down 14 floors, and small rooms.
Very small room though clean
It´s an OK stay.
You get what you pay for
You should be clear that this hostel together with all other hostels in the same building provides you with a place to spend the night - and nothing more. Words do not describe the building this hostel is in. You enter into a passageway at the bottom with lots of little shops that sell fake iPhones and the like. There are a couple of lifts of which you should take the one that stops at the floor you want to got to. "14/F" means 14th floor by the way. Once the lift gets you up there, a sign might direct you one floor down for checkin - that's what happened to me. Since no lift stops at all floors, you either go back down and back up or use the dirty staircase. The rooms are scattered around the building, my room was on floor 7. The building has a big atrium in the middle and each floor's corridor wraps around fully. The corridors resemble little streets. There are little shops and lots of apartments and plenty of hostel rooms everywhere. People hang laundry and air conditioning machines wherever they see fit. There is lots of dirt. Notices remind people to not steal the fluorescent light bulbs. The (single) room I got had a bed and next to it 50cm of space. Also a TV mounted above the bed and a tiny shelve. Behind the bed was a sliding shower door separating the "bathroom" with a shower, toilet and sink. There was a tiny space to stand between sink and toilet when having a shower, toilet and sink naturally get wet when having a shower. The room only had a tiny window with a window fan that was not to the outside but some chimney-type space. No natural light whatsoever. It seemed like there was a leak in the plumbing above my "bathroom" because it was pouring down water at times. I went to the reception and did my best to explain the situation to the Chinese lady. She came and had a look - to then offer me a towel as remedy. After some discussion I was put into another room. This was a two bed room with (compared to the single room) ample space and a big window to the street. The bathroom was similar to the previous room - this time with the caveat that the sink drain was broken and drained directly on the floor which isn't a big deal since the floor has the shower sink. Security seems ok, every set of rooms has one main door to the "flat" and another door to the room. My first room opened with a swipe card, for the second I got a physical key. You get provided with a towel and bed linen and a blanket. There is AC in the rooms which is badly needed in the Hongkong hot-humid weather. The internet password is posted on a note in the corridor and the internet is reasonably fast. While the entire building is in a pretty sorry state I did not perceive it as unhygienic - definitely no cockroaches or the like. If you want to have some fun take the stairs down one day and walk around some of the other floors. There are little barber shops and sewing shops everywhere and the creativity with which the people who live there improve their lives is surprising.
Good for short stay
Good place to stay overnight and for singles especially on a budget travel. Reception could be a bit more welcoming and friendly. Couldnt get much information from there. But the location is excellent. Recommended for business trips.
HORRIBLE EXPERINECE ...
I HAVE STAYED IN THE SAME BUILDING AT OTHER HOSTELS AND THEY DELIVER WHAT THEY PROMISED FOR THE MONEY YOU AGREE TO PAY. NOT THE CASE WITH THE VENETIAN. VERY UNFRIENDLY PERSONNEL AND DEMAND MORE MONEY THAT WHAT YOU AGREED UPON ONLINE RESERVATION. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A HARD TIME AND MEET THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL THEN GO AHEAD AND STAY AT THE VENETIAN. WILL NOT RECOMMEND EVEN TO MY WORST ENEMY.
Kowloon at the city centre
This is hotel is a good deal for those travelling on a budget. The rooms are extremely small and there was no window, but the location and value for money make up for that. The room and corridors were really clean, and fresh towels were brought in everyday. The building is very safe and all persons entering the building after 11pm have to show ID.
Great Hostel!!!
This was a great hostel. The room was clean and small but had all the necessities as specified on the website: ie shower, bathroom, a/c, bed. The owner was pleasant and helpful in accomodating. I highly recommend this hotel and will come back again.
Mirador Mansion, Nathan Road, Hongkong.
After 11pm you have prostitutes lining up on the street just outside the hotel. Surely there would be drugs and other stuff happening too. A shop selling some chinese processed eatables always gave out a bad smell going in and out. Rooms had no windows and it was like being locked up in a cell. Room size was 4'x9' and for the claustrophobics - stay away. Outside the rooms the corridors of the building were usually dirty and other residents staying in the building would dry their clothes in the corridors. Reception was in the corridor - just a table!
Venetian Hostel / USA Hostel - TERRIBLE Value
Total money grab - this hostel charges you an additional 100HKD when you check in bringing the total price of this tiny windowless hostel room to the equivalent of a budget hotel. I'd much rather have chosen the budget hotel and at least would have known what I was getting for my money.
Small and simple
Small and simple hotel with convenient location. Had to pay 100HK$ resort fee and 100HK$ key deposit at check inn. Elevators stopped only in odd or even floors, and when reception and hotel room was in 13 and 14 floor it took a while to move between the floors with luggage. Basically a clean and simple place with convenient location for a relatively reasonable price.
Venetian Hostel - Small but convienient
Hi, The room was a bit smaller than i expected but is good value for a single traveller for a short stay. Place is a convienient location and everything is a walking distance away. The staff were excellent. My luggage was misplaced by the airlines and was to be delivered late at night. The lady covering reception stayed well past her time to recieve the luggage around 1.30am. If you could pass my thanks to the Chinese ladies there - I did not get to see her afterwards as i was out and about at the time she was at reception. Raj
Really low Expectations should you stay here
I was backpacking throughout asia and by no means do I have high standards for hotels. BUT the room is in a shady building and the elevators close down at 10pm. You have to walk to the other side of the seedy building to get up and down after that. The sheets were stained and our second lock was broken. The room was tiny but that's to be expected in Hong Kong. The people who work there are not the friendliest either. Avoid if you can.
Kowloon Guesthouse
Unless you really want to feel what the old Hong Kong is like, I wouldn't go to this guesthouse, or any other for that matter. As guesthouses go, this one is on top of the list, but it remains very surprising with its small rooms and basic bathroom facilities. They have made a big effort to make it quite nice, so if you are on a tight budget and you are the adventurous sort, then you can go there for decent accommodation. Although it is clean, we did have bed bugs...They changed our room without discussion.
Very bad experience and NO SERVICE!
I booked a double room with window, but they gave a single without window. Called and no one reply! The towel and the blanket are dirty and smelly, even the maid took my own towel and I CANNOT find them to get it back, called and messaged and no reply!!! I don’t understand how they operate. Very crazy hotel!
Average stay, no high hope!
Average, nothing special. Full of painting smell and long wait for elevator !
