Very nice if you like trains
Nice hotel but too close to the train tracks. Maybe they should provide earplugs in the rooms. Everything was nice but it’s hard to sleep undisturbed.
Great Hotel Great Food
As a returning customer am very satisfied - excellent food friendly service and always happy to please. See you next time (already booked)
Good, but the chef's music ruined it
Check in: friendly, professional and easy. Room: clean, nicely done, comfortable with a beautiful view, though the railway line right next to the room wasn't mentioned. Trains were infrequent and not a problem noise-wise though. All was good until 7.30am on Sunday morning when the chef's need to listen to the radio is obviously seen as more important than allowing Guests to enjoy their night's sleep. The thumping bass and muted singing coming up into the room meant 7.30 was when our sleep was over. Breakfast: You have to pre-order what you want and what time you want it! Really? As it turned out we asked for breakfast at 9am, but we could have had it much earlier as we were awake from 7.30am with the music. What happened to being able to choose what you want to eat (and when you want to eat it) based on how you feel in the morning? The full cooked was very tasty. My daughter's bacon sandwich was very plain though, made with basic sliced white bread. Unfortunately the music blaring from the kitchen clashed with the different music coming from the speakers in the dining room making for a very non-relaxing breakfast experience. We had to ask for butter to go with the toast, but by the time the cold, hard butter came, the toast was also cold so spreading it was challenging. Overall this is nice place, in a great setting and the room was lovely, but our experience in the morning with the music and some aspects of the breakfast service took the edge off our stay.
Excellent Value!
Friendly service all round. Comfortable room. Excellent food & atmosphere. Family friendly Sunday lunch.
Hotel looks good but experience not so good
Arrived just too late to order food so ordered on just eat. When it was delivered, the owner (Male) happened to be near the entrance when i went down stairs to collect. He immediately stated that i wasnt allowed to eat in my room and that i would have to eat downstairs with everyone else which i definitely didnt want to do. I ended up pleading with him to let me eat in my room stating that id been on the road from 8am that morning and it was now 8.30 at night and i was shattered and far from feeling sociable. I even said id eat on the floor so not to get anything on the bed sheets. He eventually gave in and asked what room i was in, presumably so he could check it personally in the morning. He insinuated if there were any stains on the bed sheets or anywhere else, i would be charged but by this time i just agreed as all i wanted to do was get to my room and eat my long awaited dinner. To add to this, i had to phone down to ask to put the heating on as radiators were stone cold, ridiculous as we were in the middle of winter! To be fair, the lady was helpful and polite, especially compared to her male colleague who'd to be honest, made me feel very uncomfortable. There were Christmas parties going on down stairs, understandable due to time of year but no sound proofing in rooms, meant it was quite noisy and far from relaxing. When the bar closed i expected it to quieten down but then tables were screeched and staff were lol. Definitely wouldn't recommend ill not stay again 😔
A homely hotel with great service
A beautiful homely hotel. I’ve stayed 3 or 4 times while away on business and I’ll continue to stay here. The ambiance and service is really homely and personable. Great food in the bar and the breakfasts too. Really good value
Clean and beautifully presented. Staff are helpful and friendly.
The whole experience at the slate was great. If I had one small gripe it would be that the bed was not the most comfortable but that could be a matter of taste.
Food was lovely. Beds very comfortable
Welcoming and friendly .
Loved it
Really loved this Place, Arrived just in time for the best sunday lunch. Room really nice Just a lovely place to stay
Friendly staff, food was good, clean comfy rooms and nice decor throughout.
Lovely room, super quiet. The bed was so comfortable and clean. No water in room, but everything else you needed was there. Breakfast was ok.. pre order form handy but a mistake was made with my partners food. Items he had asked to remove were on his plate. Service was luke warm… no one to be seen once food was on the table. Juice jugs were empty, empty alpen packets on the table. Limited choice.. maybe some kind of pastry or more toast to make use of the jams would have been nice. Cooked was nice, scrambled eggs were delicious. I would deem £15pp a bit steep so only opted for breakfast the one morning. Would happily stay again if in the area.
Excellent place
Lovely staff. Checked in in early. Nice setting, hidden away. Excellent modern decor, room was very comfortable and clean. Lady on reception refunded us for dinner as there was a mixup and also very kindly posted me some things I had left behind.
The staff were extremely helpful and the food was good. In a great area for walking and sight seeing.
Great location. Lovely people. Great food.
Quite area. Friendly, helpful people
Faultless
Staff were great, friendly and professional. Good was outstanding , location and accommodation great too. What a find. Thanks very much!
Very welcoming staff staff on arrival. Food was great and the room was very clean and comfortable with a lovely bathroom. Excellent night's stay.
Great location for us . Everything we needed in the room . Great service on entry and during breakfast.
Really nice hotel with good evening meals. Felt breakfast was overpriced at £15 per person. Maybe choice of fresh fruit, yoghurts and pastries would make it nearer to the price charged
No box of facial tissues in the room .Toilet roll holder rusty.Very drafty around the window. Breakfast choices limited i.e. no fruit or pastries or extra toast or bread /rolls offered.
Very helpful and friendly reception and staff.
i had a very warm welcome from the time i entered the slate. It was very friendly and had a cosy home from home feel about i was late getting there and they accommodated me with keeping the kitchen open slightly later so that i could have food. Bedroom clean and very comfortable bed. All in all great stay and would recommend.
The accommodation was clean, modern and comfortable. The food was delicious. The staff were excellent. We will definitely return.
Nice hotel Good parking and room was very nice. breakfast was good too. Hotel is quite far nothing really around so you need a car to get to places
Lovely
Room lovely and the staff extremely welcoming, nothing was too much trouble
Really friendly pub with rooms with excellent service throughout. Room was decent - especially for just the one night stay. Only slight negative is that there is a trainline that runs immediately behind the pub so there is noise from that from early morning until late evening which may bother some.
Expensive rooms
It was a nice small hotel and the food was very good and reasonably priced, but the room was overpriced at £130 per night for a deluxe room, which was a pretty standard room with just bed, wardrobe and dressing tables. We would stay again but only at a better rate, more like £80 per night.
Brilliant stay - fantastic food!
We have just stayed at the Slate over the August bank holiday. Lovely rooms, the staff were very friendly and couldn’t do any more for us, and the food was fantastic! The location was great for the snowdonia hikes. Would recommend and definitely stay there again.
This was a quiet comfortable little hotel. Staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. Food was of a good standard. Would happily stay again.
Lovely Bangor hotel
Lovely hotel which I happily recommend. Great meal which was good value. Breakfast good too.
Everything from the service and amenities to food was amazing
Always very friendly welcome. Great facilities. Lovely food
Building and rooms were comfortable. Service was very slow. Had to go and find staff to order an evening meal and again at breakfast. Food was ok
Recently refurbished, the room was cosy, tastefully decorated, very clean and provided a very comfortable sleep - and first nights in new places aren’t often this comfortable. Great welcome, tasty dinner, arriving somewhere new after a long day, I was contented!
Parking is good. Easy to access off motorway. Good food
Great find !
Meg on reception was excellent a credit to the hotel
1st Class
Professional yet friendly. Very helpful and accommodating with great service. Room was clean and comfortable and the food was fantastic (and reasonably priced too). All in all, great value for money
Staff effort much appreciated!
We were celebrating my husband's birthday and I requested "something special" at dinner. It was absolutely fantastic,i.e. decorations like birthday banner and confetti- the surprise really made my husband's day! Fabulous service- thanks! The only small issue was that our room was next to the train track and I was shocked due to the vibrations. Nevertheless, it was a lovely room - my husband and daughter enjoyed the stay, which is what counts!
Awesome
Nice Place
The service was Excellent as we pre ordered the food on the phone and the food was ready by the time we arrived. We had a business meeting the next morning and the false fire alarm went off earlier morning and we could not sleep after that . Overall I would say the place is good.
Nice hotel and restaurant
Room was clean and bed comfortable. Food was very good and reasonably priced.
Nice clean comfortable room and good location. Saturday overnight stay waited for 2 hours in the Bar after placing meal order, and gave up and left the Bar without being served any food !! Noisy until 1.00 am. At least Breakfast was good!
great little place to stay
Lovely venue with a good pub and good varied breakfast
Beautiful restaurant with rooms.
Stayed for one night on business. Hotel is more a restaurant and gin bar with rooms. Very well decorated and helpful staff. We weren’t in our rooms for long as we checked in and had to leave for an evening event. Would definitely stay again. They discovered I was a vegan in the evening and had put out some soya milk for me to take on my journey in the morning.
Great beer and wine, tasty food, lovely helpful staff. Enjoyed our stay very much.
