Great service a value for money
Best country hotel
Amazing! We were initially put in Room 3 which we found a little disappointing for what we had paid. We asked for Room 5 (our very favourite room) and we were delighted to change rooms (although slightly confused why we hadn’t been offered that one first?). Room 5 was stunning and impeccably clean and inviting, although very ( a little too) warm on arrival Our bar meal was excellent, the bar manager was wonderful and kept the real fire stoked all evening which enhanced the cosy pub experience. Breakfast was amazing and the staff as always were exceptional. The homemade shortbread biscuits which we enjoyed with coffee in our room were truly delicious. We live less than half an hour away and this has become our once yearly treat. A truly fabulous country hotel with excellent food and impeccable service. Thanks all!
Lovely historic property, a very quiet and pleasant stay. Dog was allowed in our room only, not to eat. Very comfortable bed and warm room. No fridge in the room, but had tea and coffee facilities, you had to ask daily for milk. Close to plenty of sightseeing and rambling. Hotel also provides fly fishing in season, so will return for this, as perfect by the River Derwent.
The hotel is very nice. Decor a bit tired in parts. Dining room a bit uninspiring. Staff very welcoming and helpful.
Friendly staff, plenty of parking, good breakfast.
Beautifully situated inn with lovely breakfast and great dinners if you choose.
Faultless
Nothing was too much trouble; breakfast at 6:30am, moving reservations to the bar area, even booking tables at other venues - Superb

The bed was awful, just 2 single beds put together , no topper so it was very uncomfortable and sloped into the middle , awful 😣
Lovely hotel - very cosy and festive over the New Year period. Pretty gardens with a river running at the bottom. Slightly disappointed not to have had a dog bed or any bowls considering the additional dog charge. There was some confusion with the level of service between the restaurant and the hotel which left us waiting for our meal alone in the bar area. However, staff were very friendly.
Christmas treat
Lovely hotel but food and drinks were overpriced for what it was.
excellent service and food
Was a wonderfully pleasant and comfortable refuge after a long day walking the Peak District. Late afternoon tea in the lounge and a short walk to Grouse and Claret for supper.
A pleasant enough place and very comfortable - but all a little overpriced for what it was considering there are no facilities such as spa or pool. £82 for three courses at dinner felt very steep albeit the food was very good. A hassle having to call reception for milk. Most irritating is that the website and leaflets say they offer discounts for Haddon hall, but when we asked they said they claimed no knowledge of this and said they no longer do them. But the staff were all very nice and the service was pretty good. The location is also great.
Lovely weekend away
Absolutely lovely in all respects. Staff were wonderful.

Needs some curb appeal.
This is a lovely little hotel. The staff were more than accommodating. However the entrance to the hotel was very disappointing as we’re the grounds. It just needed a good old tidy up and weeded. Such a shame. The breakfast was excellent as was the bar good but the bar menu was very limited and felt like an afterthought to the rather expensive restaurant options.
Delightful 17th century, great history, roaring fire, great ambience, good service & attentive staff. Wonderful food, a very pleasant stay.
Peacock
The place was lovely but no fridge in room and I feel for the money you could have better bathrooms.
Unsatisfactory visit
Main doors (heavy oak) firmly closed. Understand current restrictions but no access to the building at all until after 2pm Very unhelpful welcome. Patronising!! Verbal information rushed Confusing information on website regarding evening meal provision. Then 'challenged' because we had not booked for main restaurant on Wed.eve. Very steep stairs - no indication on website Room fine altho bathroom very small. Did not reflect the cost of the room Small step into main room. No warning. I tripped Information booklet - obviously been soaked in something. The unwelcoming closed front doors set the tone for whole experience. We felt that staff did not want to b e 'bothered' ' For the first time EVER, we decided to abort the visit. Two words - UNWELCOMING.OVERPRICED Sorry 'The Peacock' but we have to speak as we find!!
Location
A Peak District Gem
We had 2 nights at this gem of a hotel in the peak district. Very helpful team in all areas. Dinner on Friday night was extremely good bit not cheap. Will revisit
Clean and well turned out, staff all friendly and alert. Food excellent. Good walk up the river bank for non fishermen, and if keen Chatsworth is not far away on a recognised footpath.
Beautiful hotel In spectacular location
This is a fantastic hotel in a beautiful location. My husband and I came for our anniversary on the way up to Yorkshire from London. The staff were brilliant and handled all the Covid restrictions really well. We had Sunday lunch with some of the best roast beef I’ve ever had. We had an evening walk up Church lane which became rolling fields, hills and forest- spectacular. I can’t recommend this place enough.
We like the Lounge. A Fire would have been good. Bar area good
Beautiful place, lovely employees and great food
Good restuarant House wine poor Bottles unused should not kept over to next day
Very comfortable stay. Charming gardens and area. Lovely staff, very helpful.
The Hotel is well placed to visit the interesting places in the area. The facilities are excellent ,warm and cosy, therefore very relaxing. We were very well looked after by the staff and the food was excellent.
Friendly, comfortable, with excellent food and service.
Lovely
A short break - lovely Hotel near Haddon and Chatsworth - hotel offers discounted entry for both. We were travelling with a dog, a little restricted to be honest with limited places you could actually sit with a dog, we had good weather so it did not matter. Derbyshire seems to be a bit behind the times in regards to dog policy as a whole - the staff were very dog friendly however. We will be back
For the price we paid, we would expect a larger room, a bath, a fridge, and more accessible power points to charge our iPhones. The restaurant menu was bizarre and we are world travellers, so it’s not as if we have never stayed in a hotel before.
Dinner at the bar is fab. Dinner at the bar is fab. Dinner at the bar is fab. Dinner at the bar is fab. Dinner at the bar is fab. Dinner at the bar is fab. Dinner at the bar is fab.
Hotel built in 1652, full of character. Very well trained staff, particularly in the restaurant. Nice touches such as a turn down service at nighttime and a chocolate left on the pillow.
Comfortable smart hotel in village
Lovely two-night break with excellent evening meals. Good-sized smart and comfortable bedroom with two comfortable armchairs in the room.
Understated luxury with unobtrusive service.
A lovely stay with polite, efficient and professional staff, comfortable surroundings in a delightful setting. The food was first class, the best I have experienced in restaurant without a Michelin star, surely this is overdue. Don’t expect bargain bucket prices but do expect the low key exceptional service to leave you feeling pampered and knowing that you have been given a stay to remember.
Superb hotel. Excellent food. Accommodating staff. Great base for walks, Chatsworth etc.
I loved this cute property! They do everything possible to make your stay pleasant.
We were just rather disappointed with the standards in the room/bathroom and felt it fell below all expectations. The breakfast was rather basic and 9.30 a.m.was the cut off time , which took us somewhat by surprise ! Dinner in the Bar was excellent - all the hotel staff were very good.
An extremely enjoyable overnight stay/
From the word "go" our experience of The Peacock Hotel was excellent. We had a very warm welcome and afternoon tea was offered to us in the lounge with delicious shortbread. The dining menu was extensive. Whilst dining in the evening our bed had been turned down, a small chocolate placed on the pillow and slippers set at the side of the bed. The curtains were drawn and there was a soft light. Breakfast in itself was really enjoyable and our waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. We would certainly like to return again and enjoy the experience once more. The hotel is very close to Haddon Hall and Chatsworth and for those folk interested, there is also fly fishing available.

The general service and especially the service in the pub/bar was very good. 205£ is definitely to much. No further value for the increased price!
