The best hotel we stayed so far..excellent and attentive staff from check in until we check out. The room is very nice and spacious. My son love the bathtub. Delicious food at gulai restaurant. The breakfast was great. Sad to leave the hotel, hopefully we"ll come back soon

This is like paradise

Datai is a unique hotel. Mostly hidden in rainforest the villas are quiet and secluded and the service is excellent.Our beach villa had everything, enormous living area, seperate bedroom area, pool and beautiful gardens. Datai beach is just through the garden gate, safe swimming and at this time of year we were often the only ones in the water. Our "butler" Nazif did everything for us, presenting afternoon tea, organising dining arrangements, buggies and much more. It was hard to find a reason to leave our haven other than to eat. Big thank you Nazif. The 4 restaurants were all excellent offering a wide variety of cuisine and the happy, friendly staff were always keen to look after you. The Datai is up there as the overall, best hotel we have experienced in all our travels.

Outstanding nature resort

Outstanding Resort with one of the best beaches I have ever been too. Superb stuff and excellent food. While not a family resort, our 4 year old twin boys loved it and I can highly recommend it

Beautiful location, superb staff and service and great food outlets

From the moment we step into the property, I felt like I was transformed into another world of lush tropic jurrasic world. I remember saying it out loud, Is this heaven. The check in was fast, we were given map and explanation of the property by Zul (i cant remember) and nice welcome drink in a Malay traditional water container called Labu by Ain. Then we brought our welcome drink to the pool. The pool staffs are all friendly & amazing! We love the adult pool so much and spent most of our time swimming with the birds who flew for a dip in the pool after flying in the sun! Now the Datai Bay private beach, the Butterfly Park, the Datai Pledge team lead by Irshad Mobarak did an awesome job with the biodiversity project. I just hope there are more plants at the Botani Butterfly Park. We also want to try the Complimentary Water Sports activities, yoga, pilates, spa , cooking class, the beach educational program on Tuesdays and so much more! We end our day with a scrumptious Beef Ribs Rendang and signature Asam Pedas at The Gulai House! Azlan host us pretty well at the Gulai House. We wish to be back for their Chef Series with Michelin Star chefs series! I am so happy with my stay. The Datai, youre above and beyond magical!

Looking for a party? then The Data isn't for you. This quiet, secluded nature reserve is the perfect blend of high end accomodation and exquisite local cuisine. All wrapped up in a sustainable environment supporting local farmers, fishermen and artists.

Impeccably maintained property in the rainforest, with true attention to detail. Lots to do with watersport kit available, mountain bikes, scheduled activities for the kids (painting, cooking, nature walls etc) and adults too (walks, culinary experiences, cooking classes, yoga, circuits, spa etc). Rooms were well-appointed with a comfortable bed. Fantastic staff. Food was of great quality too. A great week.away, would have stayed longer, and will definitely be back.

Staff were very attentive, breakfast buffet spread was excellent, facilities are great from water sports to pool to gym and sauna / steam room were available too. Unfortunately we missed the guided nature walk as it was fully booked. Love every dish ordered in Thai restaurant. Overall great experience, will definitely return!

Overall the Datai experience has been amazing! Warm and welcoming hospitality and love how they think from a consumer-first perspective. Definitely highly recommend it to others!

The Perfect Family Vacation

We stayed for a week and time flew by so quickly as we were so impressed and amazed by the service, environment, food and most of all the natural surroundings which were so amazingly blended together with everything The Datai had to offer. The first thing one would notice open arrival to the resort is how clean and well kept the property is and you never really see staff cleaning day in and out. No matter where you are around the resort, there's always someone ready to reach out to you. Ice creams by the pool, water sports, delicious cocktails, sumptuous food are the few things they do so well naturally. When it comes to food, they are second to none. Whether it's Thai at the Pavilion, Grill at Beach Club or a variety of curries and rendang at The Gulai House; you'll have a hard time finding something you don't like. Bfast was something we looked forward to each morning. The best locals offer like Roti Canai and Fried Noodles to Foie Gras on toast to perfectly made French Toast. 7 nights felt like 3. The rooms were always so clean. For a frequent traveller, you can tell the amount of detailing in the little things like your room amenities which are eco friendly, the scent of your bath soap and shampoo to the slippers you were offered which are not the boring white ones you get in all other hotels. How do they keep the place so clean and smelling so good all the time? We are so amazed. On the day we checked out, we already made plans to return at the next holiday. TQ to TDL.

Amazing facilities and service. Everything was perfect. All food were delicious and all staffs were very kind. We look forward to go back datai. I think datai is best in Langkawi.

Excellent experience!

Our stay at Datai was amazing overall - service was great from airport pick up all the way to our check out, staff were friendly and helpful. Resort is well maintained and very comfortable. The only thing is the lack of food options esp during lunch, but dinner at both Pavilion and Gulai were both excellent. Also got a bit busy towards the weekend with a lot of kids, which disturbed the overall peaceful ambience - would recommend visiting mid week for best experience.

Beautiful clean and quiet beach and bay. No annoying quad bikes or jet skis polluting the water and air, and creating noise pollution (very unenvironmental, hate Cenang Beach for those reasons). Amazing architectural design, in tune with the environment and organically done.

It was just a balm, a really restful place to be. Beautifully designed and executed hotel and grounds, complete;y in sympathy with the surroundings. A peaceful and uncrowded beach. Staff and service were fantastic. Food was amazing. Only downside was lack of factor 50 sunscreeen in the boutique!

We had the most wonderful time. The service level is impeccable, and everyone tried their best in providing the best customer experience. Looking forward to returning to Datai soon.

It was a excellent stay we had in datai hotel. Everything is close to perfect . We had a warm and friend welcome from Daniel , he explain everything in detail about the resort and all the information. The breakfast was good, especially the pastries. The foods at the pavilion was good with reasonable portions . The beach was okay, not as good as before. The canopy premium room is spacious and good for small family. I must say the services from the concierge to the housekeeping , the staffs were so professional. We will definitely come back. Keep up the good work datai.

Especially the staff and the services was excellent in The Datai Langkawi. This is the only resort make me want to have more holidays in Langkawi.

Perfect mini break.

We had a fantastic stay. Wery good service and relaxing. Breakfast was so nice. Golf around the corner. The only negative thing was that the Spa was to overpriced!!😊

Unique nature & beach experience

At the end of the road in old rain forrest, Datai exceeded all my high expectations. The Nature center is an unique facility and do join the complementary nature & beach walks with the inspiring naturalists. Beautiful beach, resort design and area combined with fresh fish & seafood and a fine wine list create an amazing tropical experience.

You have to see and experience The Datai to believe its magic. Unbelievably beautiful setting. It was my first but not my last visit. Luxuriously quiet, serene, unspoilt paradise.

It was an amazing experience even for 1 night stay. From the moment of arrival to the checkout, the service was marvelous, the Rain-forest Villa was exquisite. I like the bathroom and the overall villa layout very much ! Breakfast was served in the villa, we felt like a royal for a day! Too bad it was raining season me and my son had just enough time to swim in the family pool before it rained. I wish to stay in the private pool villa some other time in the future.

Every thing from A to Z, including most of the staff

Expensive, but Perfect

This is probably the nicest place we have ever stayed. The location is out of a movie. The staff is incredibly friendly and makes an effort to get to know you. The room was amazing and had fresh fruit every day. Every meal was delicious. They are always making sure you have enough water when you are on the beach and I got a free kayak rental. There is a small island nearby that is an easy paddle to get to, where I found a huge (and docile) monitor lizard. Everything was perfect and we had a very relaxing time. The only thing to watch out for are the monkeys. The staff tries to keep them away, but occasionally we'd see one, and they can be aggressive.

Amazing place, hidden gem

Amazing stay. I did not expect it would be this good. The staffs are highly trained and respect the guests whereever you meet them. Luxury room where you dont feel like leaving it, but once outside the room you are lured into the rainforest peacefulness, and further down to the end of staircase and walkway, there it is, the Datai beach, very private and beautiful. Dont worry, there is buggy service too if you have trouble with stairs and long walk. The beach is such a treatment to the eye and mind. The water is clear, the beach sand is white and smooth, we could lay down the chair and stay the whole day and swim once in a while. The staff will walk around the beach and serve cold water to guests without charge. Many water sports activities, like canoe, sailing, snorkeling for free. There is also slot for nature walk around the hotel where you learn about the wild animal there. It is indeed however a very secluded area, far away from tourist place in Langkawi. Hence, do expect that you will have to dine in at the hotel restaurants or in room dining, which are really delicious, but of course pricey. What touch me the most is they prepare the prayer mat for Muslim, and fold it nicely on the couch. Such a great personal gesture and thoughts for the guests. We went on our 1st anniversary, so they even prepare more in the room, with rose petals, chocolate mousse, and fruits. I feel that 2 nights are okay, but if come again, definitely 3 nights or more. To me the price justify.

The setting in the middle of the jungle was Spectacular. The jungle villa we stayed in allowed to to see the wildlife from our balcony nd the villa itself as huge and very stylist.

Nice ambience and the serene environment. Thamks for the good upkeeping of the greenery in the compound.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, very understated and elegant. The rooms are very sizeable, restaurants are lovely. The only issue we had was that our room was not serviced each day until 4.30pm which is quite unusual. However would definitely recommend this very tranquil, peaceful and relaxing hotel.

Rainforest, Mangrove & Beach...with expensive food

The hotel and service were excellent. The combination of rainforest, mangrove and beach is truly outstanding. If you don’t get stressed out my paying 72MYR for salad, 175MYR for grilled fish or 205MYR for steak, being in the middle of a rainforest is truly relaxing. The activities like water sports and the guided tours are free and should not be missed. Love how the hotel is so eco friendly, with their own recycling and Prema culture garden. The wildlife is abundant and the hotel encourages an authentic natural environment for them to thrive. There is a sense of balance and Co-habitation which is rare. Would definitely recommend this hotel.....especially if you pack cup noodles 😜

Quick Getaway

Most enjoyable stay. Beautiful surroundings and very friendly staff. Would like to return again. Only issue was that we were woken up by yelling children and slamming doors every morning - until we moved to a different room. Overall the resort and staff were quite lovely.

The beach, buffet breakfast and the staffs are one of, if not the best I have experienced. Unfortunately, there was a few hiccups in my room - villa 23 namely the beeping fire alarm and the hand wash basin. I do believe that it’s an isolated incident. And the staffs attend to them promptly. We are also disappointed that the morning/evening jungle walk was not available during our short stay. We were under the impression that the walk is available daily. Nonetheless, we must commend the attentiveness and the friendliness of the staffs. Their services are top notch. Datai Langkawi is recommended!

Absolutely beautiful; Amazing service

this place is gorgeous, but what surpassed the views and facilities was the service. We have never stayed in a resort with such great service. The staff here seemed to read our minds. Before we ever had to ask for anything, there were 3-4 people offering to assist us or bringing us what it is we were thinking. The mini bar items (cokes, beer, etc) and snacks were complimentary (except for liquor), which is something we have not experienced anywhere else, and every afternoon at the beach they walked around with free ice cream cones. The fitness classes were free, which is also not offered at every 5 star hotel. The yoga venue is awesome, next to the beach but tucked away in the jungle. Our room was gorgeous, clean and filled with high quality and complimentary toiletries and accessories. The food was amazing everywhere we ate, and the buffet breakfast had complimentary mimosas and Bloody Marie’s! BAt first, we looked at the prices and were a bit shocked because they were high compared to typical Malaysian prices, but the food was excellent and each restaurant and the prices were honestly not as high as what we would’ve had to pay in the US for such a nice resort— especially considering the free amenities the hotel offered. Our son loved the free rentals for the SUP, body board and kayak, and my wife loved the gym and the helpful staff who anticipated her towel and water needs and even offered assisted stretching. She did the yoga and the core conditioning class.

Amazing experience - captures the best of Malaysia -hospitality, food, rainforest, spa and seaside all in one place!

We stayed for 3 nights/4 days and it was such an amazingly relaxing and refreshing break. The hotel is in the most beautiful jungle setting with a gorgeous beach. We had an idea that we would go and see some of the island whilst we were there, but once we arrived at the resort we realised there was no way we would be leaving (other than for my husband to play golf at the nearby Els Club which he also loved!). There is a great gym, beautiful spa (best hot stone massage ever!), 4 different options for dinner and the level of service is outstanding! We stayed in a Rainforest Villa, which I would highly recommend, it felt like we were living in the middle of the jungle.

I have stayed in some amazing hotels in the past but this is by far the best one. The location and natural beauty is breath-taking. The food is excellent and the staff beyond friendly.

Great location, great amenities, great yoga class. Great breakfast. Staff is the real issue. They hired some from the marke! They were loudly laughing beetween them at the main swimming pool not caring of disturbing "guest" around! Couldn't enjoy fine dining restaurant on my husband's birthday because we had open shoes! Considering it s not mentioned ,not even when talking nicely with chef Jerome, that in tropical island people wear open shoes, that feet are under the table and tht staff had terrible wore iff dirty or too big shoes for mist of them , it is RIDICULOUS! Thai restaurant was so so. Staff was annoying. Only nice staff was at Gulai Indian restaurant. Manager is away like a ghist even if he will apologize after reading my review and won t change anything. New reception REDA whom we knew from Danna hotel was very helpful for checking which was a disaster before his support. All in all , it s not worth this price , at all!

A Little Slice of Paradise

Amazing facilities. Wonderful setting. Some of the best service I have ever had anywhere. Fantastic attention to detail and the resort is in good repair. Great selection of 4 restaurants. Separate kids pool. Private stretch of beach with free use of watersports equipment. Slightly remote part of Langkawi so not much to do around the resort, but that's why you go, right? Very lovely, tranquil, private place. Fantastic.

Not sure where to start! The resort was stunning, from check in to check out, a lot of thought has been put into it. Absolutely loved how environmentally friendly they are, comb and toothbrush made from bamboo! No plastic use spotted throughout my 3 days stay. The luxurious hotel chains have a lot to learn from The Datai. The beach is unparalleled, lots of crabs. A very child friendly beach, and we spotted a school of fish swimming near the shore line. Very well trained staff. 2 thumbs up!

Truly stunning resort

Amazing and exceptional hotel amidst a lush rainforest. Beautiful landscapes surround the entirety of the hotel. The exclusive private beach was a gem, and the nature centre was very novel and well executed. Service top notch. An all round brilliant hotel.

It is an amazing hotel, very integrated into the nature. The staff is super friendly and the three restaurants in the hotel have great food. Breakfast is well served and with great variety. The only thing to improve is to be more conscious on the water consumption. The cleaning staff is instructed to change towels and the bed sheets every day, which is really not necessary. It is better to leave this decision to the guest. I feel really annoyed by knowing the amount of towels that are unnecessary washed every day and the amount of water involved in the process.. Overall the experience was great. Thanks!

The exclusivity of the resort with its own private beach was so very satisfying to enjoy for yourself and your partner. The service was superb giving extra care and attention to us during our stay throughout.

4 nights was too short! There are a lot of nice small touches that make us smile. Enjoyed looking over the jungle or the calm beach listening to the nature was the highlight of the stay,. We will be back.

Great, Fantastic Hotel !

I was in my rainforest pool twice while people were cleaning my room. Each time they were aware and told me they were finished and then locked me out of my room. I had to climb down into the mud and thankfully had my key to the front door. Also had no "do not disturb" signal so was getting interrupted frequently.

There weren’t anything that I didn’t like. What I like most is the superb services from the staff. Their services were so personal. They are always coming round to talk to you no matter how busy the place is. They also go out of their way to cater to your needs.

Simply the best! Beautiful property, very comfortable room and excellent food.

We Will Be Back!

We had an amazing holiday at the Datai Langkawi. The staffs there were friendly and very helpful, attending to our every needs and all the little touches they provide make it superb. The buffet breakfast was a wonderful spread, providing us with an amazing array of healthy choices. The hotel, being set in an ancient rainforest, is unique like no others. It was tranquil and peaceful, giving body and soul a much needed rest. The beach is truly beautiful, soft pillowy white sand and being very remote, we have it all to ourselves. A reminder to those who have not been to the Datai before, book in advance the Canopy Walk. This was our first time to the Datai, and the walk was unfortunately fully booked during our entire stay. All in all, a truly wonder stay, and we are already planning our next trip to the Datai again!

This was our third visit and it gets better every time! Set in rain forest with an easy walk to stunning beach. We stay in a basic room on lobby level which are very clean. The restaurants serve good food, perhaps more choice of wine in each restaurant would be good. All of the staff are very well trained, helpful and friendly, can't recommend it enough, we will definitely be returning next year!

It is in a quiet area with nice private beach. The rooms are very comfortable and good value for money.

The beach was lovely and there was a relaxed luxurious vibe. Food was lovely! Service was good in that everyone went out of their way to fix any issues but they are obviously still training a few staff and sometimes the response for small things was slow.

Fabulous Hotel which fully deserves an overall excellent rating I was surprised however that during check out noone asked how our visit had been. It felt a little arrogant along the lines of they knew they were good so didnt need to ask.

The resort was just finishing its renovations during our stay (it was a soft opening) but it was still an absolutely amazing experience. The surroundings are amazing and the beach is picturesque. Every member of the staff are super friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make our stay the best it could be.

Hotel was great, but service was a bit worse than when last stayed there 13 months ago. I would put this down to the hotel being in soft opening mode

Fantastic family holiday.

A wonderful place to stay. We had a rainforest villa and felt that we had our own private piece of the jungle. The villa was great with heaps of room for us and the two kids. We all enjoyed the close encounters with the monkeys. The food was great but on the expensive side, but the breakfast was amazing. It's a bit out of the way, but that is part of the appeal. They're about to shut for renovations so will be excited to see how they update everything. It was so good that we are planning to go back in a couple of years!

Unique Datai

We really enjoyed our stay in The Datai. The resort is really lovely, and the service was good too. We loved that we had both the rainforest and the beach at our disposal. It was really refreshing to be surrounded by nature and we got to see monkeys, a colugo, giant squirrels, birds and butterflies during our stay. The beach was great too, with clear waters that made visible the fish swimming around us.

Best hotel experience in years

I travel for around 3 months each year and stay in a lot of five star hotels during my trips. The Datai Langkawi provided a very special experience indeed. From the amazing breakfast buffet, the landscaping, to the tours with the in-house naturalist, the Datai had it all!

Comfortable and luxurious stay

The staff were very friendly, hospitable and obliging. Many small and personal touches that made us feel welcome. The buffet breakfast was impressive with a lot of variety and the staff were very friendly. We dined in the in-house restaurant for dinner as we did not want to drive to the town centre in the dark, but the meal was quite pricey.

Fantastic location to relax

The location is superb, it is surrounded by unspoiled forest. The hotel is very nice, the rooms are big and comfortable, however they could use some refurbishment. I stayed in a villa, for the price I would have expected to be a little bit more luxurious. Most of the staff is very good, however in the restaurants and pool area the staff is far from what a five star traveler would expect. This is clearly due to poor management decision and not because of any particular employee. They just seem to have decided to fill up all the positions there with trainees or unprofessional people to save costs. On the reception and guest services they have properly trained staff and they are very good. Overall the hotel could improve the above points but it makes it up with its unique location. I would recommend it and I will probably stay there again.

The Datai

All in all our stay was great! We loved the environment as well as the facilities to our disposal. As some of the reviews said, the hotel is dated and is in need of revamping. Our room AC did not work properly and the mattress was worn out. Apart from this we enjoyed our stay and if the opportunity allows we will return.
