LOVED IT!

Hospitality was EXCEPTIONAL. LOVE that they're pet friendly. Walking trails right on the property where i could walk the dogs. Had dog bowls waiting which was so cool because i had managed to leave their water bowl at home. Comfortable bed/bedding. So... my friend and I stayed in the "White Oak" cabin. The toilet is in the one room downstairs with a curtain for privacy. I wish there was an actual door (not sure it is possible) because anyone in the room hears all bathroom activities and the "kitchenette" is literally on the other side of that curtain. That said, I still rate it 5 stars and will return! However, if i go for a romantic getaway, I would need a different cabin with demarcated toilet.

What a surprising find! Acres of beautiful trails, pond and many unique cabins or homes to choose from. This corn crib cabin is spacious and well appointed. We also enjoyed the porch chairs and chatting with a gentleman about these historical grounds. Will definitely stay here again.

This place is spectacular. I’ve been back at least three times and I just love it. I mostly travel for uncomfortable family events and this accommodation is a halfway point from home and it makes me feel so comfortable knowing that I’ll have a nice experience away from the complications of life. The Post Office was a wonderful place to get a nights sleep and recharge before a long journey back to NYC. I’m looking forward to my next opportunity to stay there.

What a lovely place!

This is an absolutely lovely place and location. It’s located on the country side but on a very well maintained and big property. However it only takes approx 20 minutes to drive to Lake Anna State Park and 25 minutes to Dowm town Fredericksburg. The owners are very friendly and welcoming so we felt like being received by close friends! The room is big and has everything you need including a very well working and silent central air conditioning system. We ordered as well the breakfast which was fresh made and brought to the door of the room. We will definitely stay here again.

This place is perfect for any civil war buffs. They had trails that showed earthworks. The different kind of buildings was so cool. The only thing that wasnt ideal was the fire place. The flue doesnt seem to open properly as the cabin filled with smoke. But the history and up keep of everything else was awesome! Quiet and unique with plenty of bird watching!

Spur of the moment trip, great find!

This is a really nice place. It is very private, and the property is very well kept. We stayed in the 'corn crib', which was a combination of tasteful renovations while maintaining the history of the building. We were pleasantly surprised at how roomy it was - there was plenty of room to each have our own spot when we wanted it. There is a 'living room', kitchen with an apartment sized refrigerator, not a mini fridge, microwave, dishes, cups, etc. There is a dining area also. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. The bathroom has one wall from the original corn crib and there is a huge, old wooden door. I would like to come back and stay here again, so I could have more time to walk the grounds and to take a tour.

Relaxing historical getaway

Overall the Civil War house was very nice and we'll kept. Beautiful surroundings. Plenty of room for the two of us to relax and dog friendly so we brought our pups. The office staff was very helpful and able to suggest a few local wineries to enjoy. A few items the staff could address though. The soap dispenser in the shower was empty, the box spring was very loud, so much so the second night we slept on the couch, the kitchen utensils could use updating and finally if you advertise that it's pet friendly and dog bowls, snacks, waste bags are provided, please have them. Not a big deal as we had our own, but makes the fee for bringing them a bit unfair. I'd still recommend the Stevenson ridge, our concerns were small and easily addressed. For us it was a short drive to a great getaway.

Nice but would be better with breakfast!

It was very nice, comfortable and clean, but a bit pricey for what was included There were no amenities like a pool or hot tub, and if you want a continental breakfast it is $15 extra per person. The shower areas was very nice, but the water pressure was terrible. We only stayed one night and it was enjoyable and was a great place to see the fireworks without the hassle!

Short and sweet stay

We arrived in the evening and there was a wedding reception going on. We walked through pretty under dressed but were taken care of right away by the staff. I think the office was actually closed per a voice mail I received but did not listen to until after we got to the B&B. I was wondering about breakfast though. I did not see instructions on how to get the breakfast nor did the staff mention it. Very interesting room in the old servants quarters. I think the bathroom facilities pretty open on the bottom floor with only thin curtains - no door - took getting used to. also not curtains on the window next to toilet or upstairs bedroom facing the pond was not comfortable feeling. Overall very quaint and comfortable and easy access.

Sweetest Little Cabin Ever!

We stayed here after attending a wedding on the grounds. The Post Office is the sweetest little cabin. We had a wonderful fire in the fire place, the bed was to die for, and in general, it was one of the most peaceful and cozy little places we have stayed. Stevenson Ridge didn't miss any of the little details, right down to delivering breakfast in a basket the next morning. We'll definitely come back!

perfect getaway

My husband and I stayed at the Post Office at Stevenson Ridge. I had read good reviews, but it was even nicer than I had expected! The Post Office was so cozy and clean. It was perfectly tucked in the trees. There were logs on the fire just waiting to be lit. Dan did a fine job restoring the cabin and other buildings at Stevenson Ridge. We enjoyed the trail through the woods for a morning walk. We will stay here again!

On the Battlefield!

Stevenson Ridge on just about the most wonderful, comfortable, relaxing historic place I have ever been to. The small dwellings are amazing--old houses and other structures repurposed as beautiful rooms to stay for any reason. It was sparkling clean, visually delightful, and Union earthworks from the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse were right on the property. Plus wonderful, friendly cats!! We will definitely return.

Nice, quiet stay.

Pleasant atmosphere, far from the maddening traffic typical of northern Virginia. If not for the cost (we were charged the Friday/Saturday rate for a Sunday night stay), and the insects that found their way into our room, I would highly recommend. Also no breakfast for a bed and breakfast, so be aware of that before you book.

Beautiful and quaint!

We stayed in the 'Post Office'. I loved the history there, the antique furnishings, log burning fireplace, and just having our own little 'cottage'. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had a huge bathtub! The service was superb! I was there to run the marine corps half marathon and Jennifer was very sweet to supply me with oatmeal and fresh fruit for breakfast. Walking the grounds and seeing the civil war remnants was also very interesting. We wish we had had more time to explore the area more, Spotsylvania is very rich in Civil War history.

Hidden Gem

Stevenson Ridge is an unusual B&B venue. It consists of a number of unique units spread out on the grounds of a 19th-century estate. Each building (we stayed in the "Corn Crib") has been creatively and professionally restored to retain its original ambiance, but at the same time offer a comfortable, quiet, almost bucolic experience. Units have complete kitchenettes stocked with coffee and snacks, large contemporary bathrooms, wood-burning fireplaces, comfortable king-sized beds, the works. Everything is well made and well maintained, and it is immaculately clean. Relaxing, off-the-beaten path (even has civil war earthworks in the back of the property), first-class accommodations. Five stars.

Stevenson Ridge Is Outstanding

Our stay was in the Old Post Office and it was wonderful. An upscale cabin if you will. They had all sorts of knick knacks and special small things spread throughout the place. Every attention to detail has been looked to with wonderful results. My wife was running the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon in Fredricksburg, so we were looking for a place to stay the night before. Just try it!

Stevenson Ridge was a nice surprise, although a little further away from the city than we'd realized. It is in a lovely, natural setting that even has some earthworks remains from the Civil War on the grounds. The hosts were friendly and helpful, but not overweaning, and the continental breakfasts delivered via baskets were fun. This probably was the best B&B experience we've had in the U.S. --- stg we tend to avoid after too many dusty drapes, overbearing hosts, and having breakfast with strangers when we're not fully awake and ready to interact. We'd say, "Give it a try!"

A romantic escape in the woods

My boyfriend was just returning from a 2 week business trip and we wanted to get away somewhere remote and quiet. Stevenson Ridge was just the ticket. We had a secluded cabin with lots of privacy, a great kitchen and fantastic shower. We started a fire in the fireplace, enjoyed some wine, had dinner in the historic downtown area.
