Stay was just what I expected.
Really pleasant stay
Cozy, well appointed and great location. I felt the Krafft had anticipated every comfort. Also, great location on the Rhine near the cultural center of Basel.
Great hotel with a wonderful old age feel
Friendly staff, cleanliness, great location,
Good location, beds are strange
Check in by an unfriendly, subtly condescending staff member. Room was on the city side on the first floor above the street. Smokers below on the street caused room to smell like cigarette smoke all night. Noisy room with construction sight directly across a narrow street. Small bathroom. Best part of our two night stay was the beverage center on each floor. Would not recommend this hotel.
Great location on the river. Historic building. Friendly staff!
Love the hospitality of the staff- friendly, helpful and professional. I just wish they had the door sign requesting privacy- the cleaning staff opened my door twice while I was in my room.
Great location
Basel Baptism
Comfortable older Hotel. Served our needs. We had the city side room so with the windows open there was noise into the late part of the night.
The staff was so helpful. Especially Belinda! The room was bigger than expected with windows that opened!
Room had a wonderful view of the Rhine
Nice location, close to everything helpful stuff. I enjoyed my time in Basel
I stayed in a single room, and I didn't expect it to be so tiny. It doesn't have a closet. If you are a light sleeper you have to know it is noisy. You can hear people from the street, and upstairs neighbours walking. It is very well located, everything important is walking distance. A bus station that takes you to the train station just 1 min away. The staff is very nice. They have tasty snacks and coffee in every floor.
Staff members were great!!
Historic property well maintained. The only negative squeaky parquet floors
Lovely hotel on the Rhine
Lovely hotel beautiful location. Only caveat is steep stairs at entry
Very nice
We had the premium room on the roof with a huge bathroom and bathtub. Room was always the right temperature with a big covered balcony. No minibar/fridge but had a coffee machine and hot water maker in the room Parking was a bit difficult but the staff went above and beyond to figure it out for us. Very close to all of downtown Basel. Small, very basic breakfast for 20cfh per person is not worth it but all in all very nice quiet hotel on the water. Once again, amazing staff.
Beautiful
Great smaller hotel right on the Rhine River in Basel with perfectly located within a short walk to the old town and many attractions. During our stay the annual Christmas market was just outside which was quite fun but did make accessing the hotel require a block or two walk with our luggage. We enjoyed a penthouse suite which didn't have much of a view but was spacious, clean and very quiet for a restful night's sleep. We'd certainly consider a return visit.
Nice old world property, in great location with great views over the river. Coffee, water and snacks available on each floor for guests included in price. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Not sure how it is 4 stars
The room was not clean at all. Dust in many places, a lot of hair in the bathroom. There is no fridge, kettle, coffee maker in the room. Instead, they were very proud of their shared facilities and explained how you could sit and read and have a cosy time. However, the "space" is at the stairwell, and our floor had one chair to sit on. There were not enough clean cups and tea spoons, most of the tea canisters were empty. The fridge was crowded by another guest's champagne bottle and take-away box (the fridge was very small and shared by the whole floor). A few days before our stay the hotel sent an email to let us know that there would be a street party on the weekend of our stay. 1) the email was in german only, so I could only halfway understand it and 2) if I had known sooner than a couple of days before then I would have rebooked to another hotel. As such, there was nothing we could do and the extremely overexcited woman in reception simply offered us some earplugs and advice us that staying in the city is expected to be noisy. And it was :( The most important advice for breakfast is: Get there early. The first day it took almost 30 min to get a small cup of coffee and the food was not all restocked. Furthermore, it looked rather "worn" since it was a buffet and had had many "hands on it" before us. The next morning we had to get up early for a flight and the breakfast was actually a pleasant experience.
The staff was so helpful and friendly. We had an amazing view of the river! There were a couple of things that were an issue: the bathroom was so tiny- you couldn’t do anything at the sink without getting water all over the floor. The toilet was so close to the shower that I kept hitting my leg and knee on it while trying to clean off. I finally learned my lesson and stood sideways and cleaned off. The pillows were so flat that I found folding it up helped the first night. Then, I requested a second pillow which helped a bit. The bed was comfortable, though. The room was a bit too sparse. Overall, a pleasant staff, a decent breakfast (great cup of coffee), and great view of the river but next time in Basel I will probably opt for a different hotel.
Easy to reach using bus and tram
Everything was great about this hotel. Location, staff and room. The hotel is a historical landmark in the city and I highly recommend. We only stayed one night to catch our river cruise the next day, however we wished we had stayed a couple more. Next time!!
Nice location along the river
Very nice hotel in a convenient location. Rooms were all updated, while common areas had a nice historical feel. The only negative on a hot day was no air conditioning. Staff was very helpful and pleasant.
This was a cute little hotel right along the River in Basel. The staff were very friendly upon check in and even let us check in super early, like noon! We could walk to many cool spots from here and really enjoyed the local nightlife along the river. Our room was large, it felt like an apartment! We liked the towels in the waterproof dry bag if we had wanted to float the river. Close to lots of restaurants and shopping.
The staff was amazing!! Being able to walk out the door and swim in the Rhine was an experience we will never forget.
Great location with friendly staff and comfortable room.
I asked for a room overlooking the River and was able to enjoy not only what I could see, but also hear because the water was very high and moving fast so the current made a continuous rushing sound. It was a beautiful sensation. The staff were so helpful in explaining the transit system and how to reach all the important sites. Their language skills were exceptional.
Great location! Basel is a wonderful town! We were disappointed to find our room at the back of the property was a laneway, with a number of bistros that were open late, even on week nights!
Loved the Basel Krafft Hotel!! Lovely accommodations- both room and common areas, great breakfast and super- friendly staff. Perfect location for sightseeing or just relaxing!! Will definitely stay again if ever fortunate enough to be back in Basel!!!
The staff went above and beyond to make sure I was welcome and comfortable. There were so many thoughtful inclusions, like a water jug in the room and filtered water tap on every floor. The room was comfortable and had great views of the river.
Little jewel!
Charming, quirky and historic, near the middle bridge and great shopping.
Stayed there before but this time was not happy with the room.
Room very small for asking price, no still water provided.
Great location, very hospitable staff and delicious breakfast buffet included with room.
Nicest team ever. They went out of their way to help in many ways.
Personal service. Great food in the restaurant. Easy to get to from the train station, take tram Rheingasse 8. You have a great view of the Rhine river. Excellent restaurants are near hotel.
Location
Unique admosphere
Great location and views. Big room. But fir one night over 400 dollars and no air conditioning I get that not every older building will have it but it was not comfortable. Also Very loud live band playing outside on a weekday with travelers needing to sleep. If I’d known I would not have stayed here.
Krafft Basel
Very nice hotel, with amazing view to the river. Good food in the restaurant and very helpful personel
The property should really notify guests that they have 2 properties. One being 4-star and another being 3-star. Instead they tell you they have River-view and City-view without differentiating the City-view is 3-Star. The site only lists the 4-Star rating. In addition, the City-view rooms are covered in scaffolding and workers arrive to make noise before 7:00 AM. Luckily the entire city goes to sleep by 9:00 so there's no reason to wake late.
Fantastic!! Great staff. Incredible location. Pay the extra for a river-view room.
Average with Great View
Busibess stay. Inconveniet location zero parking
The rooms and especially the bathrooms are tiny. They’ve been upgraded since I was last there and I realise the space is what it is but I did fight with the shower doors. The staff are pleasant enough however at check-in I was ignored for a while by the guy on the desk until he was ready to speak to me. Also no offer with luggage which would have been appreciated since my room was a few floors up a lot of stairs.
Sweet little village street. I enjoyed seeing families out on a Sunday afternoon enjoying themselves. I was able to watch from my open window.
Great location, friendly staff. Good value. Easy access to many Basel sites
Would not recommend
Not clean, did not like the entrance as they took me to the back side of the hotel. Not comfortable.
Great hotel! Avoid cityview recently! Please read.
This hotel has a really good location. It is along Rhein River and next to the bridge to the city center. There is a tram station near this hotel about 1min walk, and you can have a Basel card which can take trams free for a month and has discount to visit museums. They have free water, sparking water, tea, coffee, boiling pot and fruit on each floor. Staff there are very friendly and speak good English. My room is a single bed room; it is small but very comfortable. There is only one downside of this place, which is noise. Recently, there is a construction site on the backside of this hotel. I stayed in the room with city view, however, there is no city, just a higher building on the back and is under construction. They start to work from 8am to 6pm, but I believe that they started earlier than that, because I stayed here for an academic conference, so I need to get up really early for 8:30am plenary talk. I remembered that I was awake because of the noise from outside. They used a huge vacuum to clean the construction site and throw the table, and other large furniture from 3rd floor(4th floor in US, because 1st floor is their ground floor) and above to a truck on the street. That sound is unforgettable and scary. The guy next to my room snored really loud during the night, and sing in the early morning. I would be really pissed if I was not so tired and had to get up so early. I think river view room should be much better. Overall this is a really good hotel.
Well kept property. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff.
Very nice hotel on the Rhine.
Great location. Friendly staff. Nice historic building. Very spacious rooms too.
Very close to Port! The staff were very kind and helpful. The city is beautiful.
Rooms are small but service is great. Unfortunately the building across the street burned down recently which left an unpleasant smell in some rooms.
Loved the location, history of the building, and friendliness of the staff. Improvements to modernize were a little too aggressive.
The property was very clean. The view was very beautiful and the area is just amazing. This is a very nice place to stay.
Good Great help fro The reception staff
The property lets you know that there was a fire across the street and that there will be noise, dust and you have to walk on the strret to get there but they let you know too late to cancel without a fee.
Great property. Very nice design style. Super friendly staff, helpful and engaged. Fabulous restaurant. Hope to stay again.
Unique Hotel
We stayed in Basel for a few days on our way from the US to Africa. The hotel was comfortable with a unique style and very clean. The staff was very accommodating to any of our needs. Everyone spoke English. We would stay here again for the location, the staff & comfort, and the character.
Waterfront. Unique. Historical. Close to great places to eat and bars.
Location was fantastic. Our balcony gave us front row seats to the Rhine.
Comfortable room. Front desk very helpful with arrival and departure. Location was great! Walk across river bridge to old town. The light rail was a stone’s throw away. Took to museum and train station. We had a view of the river which made the location even better. The only negative was the bar and breakfast buffet prices. The bar was pricier than others. The breakfast buffet was also pricy, 20 euro/person for cold buffet.
This is an older property but the staff is delightful. If you are budgeting for the least expensive accommodations, expect a view reflective of the cost. The room overall was fine.
It was my very own version of, “A Room with a View”! A wonderful room sized right for one opening on the Rhein. Incredibly accommodating staff and the morning breakfast service was lovely. Close to everything by foot.
Going to Basel? This is the hotel to stay in
I’ve stayed here before so I got an upgrade. The service is amazing and if you’re staying in Basel you should be staying here.
Location is fantastic, right along the river and a minute's walk from public transportation. Very clean rooms and friendly staff, great value for the price. I will definitely stay here again!
Amazing staff and perfect location
Everyone who works here was extremely helpful and friendly. Great service from the kitchen to the cleaners to the front desk. The location is beautiful and convenient. The tram stops right by the hotel and the best parts of the city are easily walkable. There is also a station to make hot tea on every floor and teapots you can take to your room. I couldn’t ask for a better experience
Highly recommend
I love the Krafft Hotel for its location on the Rhine, its friendly staff and fabulous food. It has clean, comfortable modern rooms- I will return !
Loved this hotel. Gorgeous interior. class act. Make use of your Basel Card for museums trains etc
great location
very close to shops, restaurants, tourist attractions, trams lovely walks along the Rhine river just outside hotel quiet at night so sleep not disturbed
Perfect location.
Shower Was hard to negotiate, felt insecure stepping into the tub. Tight quarters in bathroom.
Great hotel but lots of outside noise
Great hotel and room, great location and lovely staff but there was too much noise from the street outside my room and also from the room next door. Lovely rooms but they well not sound proof so this was not great for a light sleeper like myself. The hotel were unable to give me another room away from the noise as the hotel was fully booked which was disappointing.
Rest and relaxation Krafft Hotel style
We checked in early ( 9am) and within 15 minutes the staff gave us a room. The room was a city view, as requested, and very clean and comfortable. It was Easter Sunday and there were Easter eggs and candies everywhere. Really a nice touch. Complimentary tea and tea pots as well as apples are available in each floor. The room we had, Second floor room 12, was large, and had a futon couch and coffee table. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights so the large room was very comfortable. Staff made sure we had everything we needed. They gave us a transportation card for the entire stay which we used on all public transportation including a simple connection to the airport. The hotel is on the Rhine riverwalk, so there are many cafes and bars close at hand.
Great river views
Great hotel and helpful staff. The rooms were very comfortable and loved the mini tea prep area on each floor. Breakfast could have slightly more varieties.
Nice hotel on the Rhine
Reasonably priced, beautifully situated and pleasant hotel with wonderful though pricey breakfast. My only complaint was the bedding, which oddly consisted of 2 single sheets and 2 heavy duvets for 1 queen bed.
Good central location with great staff
Location can't be beat. Hotel is located within walking distance of most attractions and for those that are farther afield, the hotel gives you a free transit card. Hotel has a very good restaurant but it is not always open. There is no place to grab a quick bite outside of dining hours. There is free tea and water, but no coffee. In the home of Nespresso, you would hope they would have that option. Rooms are very clean and quite comfortable; however street noise is a problem. I would probably stay there again, depending on the time of year.
misleading hotel
they advertise a hotel facing the river and they take you to stay to a building across the road through a very narrow corridor. totally unacceptable.
Friday nights
Don't stay in room 10 / 1 if you want a quiet night . Rowdy outside.
Wonderful hotel with great location
We arrived late morning from a transatlantic flight expecting our room would not be ready, however we were able to check in immediately. The room was spacious and pristine. The view of the river was spectacular. The coffee/tea/water station in the foyer outside our room was very nice to have. We had lunch at the hotel restaurant one afternoon, food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The only drawback was the hotel was not air conditioned and the two days we were there were quite warm. There was a large fan already in the room and we were offered an additional fan if we wanted. However, by the time the sun set the room was comfortable enough for a good nights sleep. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Historic hotel with river view
This hotel is wonderful if you stay in my room. I can't speak for the street rooms, but the views of the river from the balcony rooms are amazing. Perfect location too. One problem for our stay is that the rooms are not air conditioned. In Switzerland this normally is not a problem, but we arrived in a heat wave. 95 degrees. It was hot, and we did have a fan, but ouch! Otherwise, the restaurant was fabulous too for dinner and breakfast was included in the price.
Staff we very pleasant and helpful. Weather was very hotel and no air conditioning in room. A fan was used but insufficient and not comparable to inbuilt air conditioning. Bathroom was in tired condition, mouldy sealant etc.
Great hotel, faultless staff
This hotel is an ideal destination for those travellers seeking an oasis of calm. The attention to detail superb
Very friendly staff, good safe hotel in central location, highly recommended
Attractive hotel
Helpful and friendly staff. Lovely area.
Nice hotel at the Rhine river
Traditional hotel in Basel which could need some renovation, but very charming. Helpful and nice staff. A good address for both tourisme and business, as the trade fair buildings are very close.
Excellent cozy hotel next to river rhine
It was amazing honely experience. I was in biz conference. Walking distance to confernce centre. Staff was very courteus, cudtomer service was excellent. Ever shower cosmetics were branded :). Excellent healthy breakfast and great view of river rhine.
Good location but odd hotel
The hotel was a bit odd. I was staying in an annex across the road and you had to walk through a courtyard to get to the lift with people smoking in the courtyard from the bar downstairs. It was also quite noisy due to the bar. The dinner was very nice and service good. Breakfast was okay but service a little slower - I was brought tea but no cup to pour it into and couldn't get attention for a long while so had to go pinch one from another table. There was also no room service which wasn't very convenient.
Clean and fresh
Well worth two nights stay at the centre of this beautiful CITY.
Great view of water from the room
The only negative was the promenade was loud till 2 am so hard to keep open the windows. Everything else was wonderful. Hotel is starting to look worn like carpets, etc, but it did not impact our love of our room and would return here again.
Stylish and understated
The hotel is very well run, the rooms are beautifully designed. Locationwise - highly recommended. Be prepared to be exposed to noise coming from neighboring restaurants and bars that are frequented by the locals.
Nice hotel but noisy position
The hotel its self is very beautiful, in a great location by the river. an easy walk to the centre of Basel, Tinguely museum etc. The check in process was easy though polite the receptionist did not point out any of the facilities or amenities that the hotel offered. Our room was in a separate annexe building in the lane behind the hotel, the room was lovely but unfortunately it is above a bar and in the street directly below the room were about 5-6 bars. As it was summertime the bars were packed outside and the noise was unbelievable and continued way into the night. I think the room would be ok in winter time when no-one is sat out on the street but forget it in the summer if you want to get any sleep at all.
The Krafft Hotel is an excellent choice any time
Staying at the Krafft is like coming home. The staff at Krafft are world class and very welcoming. In any season, the vibrant city life along the Rhine is one of the reasons I choose the Krafft Hotel, as well as watching the barges moving swiftly up or down the Rhine. In the summer months, floating down and swimming in the Rhine is a unique experience.
Gracious. Perfect comfort.
Loved this hotel. Staff made us feel Welcome and special from the beginning, with little touches like bringing us lattes in the lobby when we arrived early and were waiting for our room. The rooms with balconies and river views are so worth it. Breakfast was perfect with white tablecloths and the best selection and presentation, again looking over the river. Easy walk over bridge to town. Tram stop around the corner took us everyplace we wanted to go with ease. Simple easy elegance. No pretension. Great style. A highlight
Basel
Three great days. Easy access to public transportation. Loved it !!

Wonderful hotel
Friendly and accommodating staff, without exception. Large rooms, enough for our four bags. Left my credit card at reception and they quickly called me and got it to our friends for delivery to us. All very helpful. Highly recommend this WWII era yet updated hotel. And great location!
