Family getaway
I would say over all it was clean for the most part except for the dresser drawers. That's something that most hotels always miss cleaning but. Anytime we had any issues like with hot water or the gas stove not working properly they would be on it doing everything to make it work so quality of service excellent. The amenities were restaurants. Kaleos excellent, boogie woogie pizza best pizza I've had ever, black rock cafe excellent service fast friendly and tasty dishes like the ( loco moco ) and a little coffee shop next driveway to black rock cafe excellent service and coffee. The owners of these restaurants and hotel knows all there customers by name and it made me feel comfortable and welcomed. The location you can't miss it. It's right next to a 7-11 and its painted bright orange. Lol... I would recommend anyone to stay there it's not fancy but it's comfortable.
Only if you're desperate!
The check in process involves visiting Boogie Woogie pizza and hoping that the manager Ophelia is actually there....and expecting you! Apparently the computer system was 'down' but since we had made our booking nearly 6 months in advance, we would have hoped they had some idea we were on our way! Initially there was some confusion. First we were told there was someone in our room and then we were asked to go away and amuse ourselves for an hour or so whilst they cleaned it. In all honesty, had we gone away for a day or so they never would have got the place clean! We stayed in the 2 bedroom 'orchid suite'. It was grimey and damp and although there was a full kitchen available, I wouldn't dare use any of the dirty equipment. We travel a lot and always use budget type accommodation. We do not need luxury, just a clean comfortable bed and bathroom. This establishment did not satisfy our needs. Perhaps the only good thing was the very good wi-fi. I did use this to try and find another place to stay for the night but sadly nothing was available so we stuck it out and left as early as we could the next morning! Be warned!
Bit noisy in Pahoa
Our stay at the Inn included three of us, my husband, son and I. The owner was very nice and helpful. When we did not have hot water we quickly put in another propane tank so that we could have hot showers in the morning. The shower for the two bedrooms was very small but served our needs. The only complaint we had was that the cafe across the street had a very loud band. Since the room was not air conditioned the windows had to be open for ventilation thus allowing the noise to play through. Our son was a teenager so it was not a huge problem for him (he might have enjoyed it if the band was better) but I could see it being a problem for people with young children.
Bang for your buck
Whilst you wouldn't go here for your holidays, it works just fine for a night or two whilst you are exploring the area which is absolutely beautiful and is good value for the price.
Not luxury but price is good and convient location
We stayed for 4 nights. Price was good, the place was a little tricky to find because the sign was missing. ( in repair). Nobody was on the site; we had to call to find out that the renting office was 2 block down the street, but the owner was very friendly. Next to 7-eleven, convient for purchasing water...etc. Many restaurants on the street so no problem if you come back late. Sometimes the sound / song from the pub across the street was loud that we had to close the window. The temperature in December was nice that we didn't even use the fan. Refrig, toaster, microwave oven were nice to have. No stove. If you are a budget traveller, this is a good choice.
Funky Aloha Suite in Pahoa
The Aloha Suite at the Island Paradise Inn In Pahoa, HI, was easy to find once we went to the pizza shop to register, 2 blocks from the Inn. It would have been really helpful if the room had a sign on it that said "Aloha Suite", I understand signs are being made as we speak. But then you have to remember that Pahoe Town is several steps back in time. We knew this, so in a way, it was charming. The place was fairly clean, new bedding, well woren towels, bathroom door didn't close. Shower took forever to get hot. It had a kitchenette, mico, small refrig., table & two chairs, fairly comfortable KS bed plus another room with a twin, did I say that the bathroom door didn't close? Parking was availbale but apparently none of the other guests knew where to park either, as we were blocked in one morning. There aren't too many choices to stay if you want/need to be in/near Pahoa, as we did, so for the price, it was fine. We stayed 4 nights.
Sweet owner, but not so nice suite.
Full suite all to you with kitchen, utensils etc. But Mold in bathroom! The living room couch, carpet is a bit smelly. My suggestion to owner, remove carpet from all rooms, replace the old looking couch with wicker couches (with cushions). Add AC! Bathroom needs to be focussed upon primarily.
Like staying in Grandma's front room
Poor
Very peaceful habitat w/environment above & beyond
First of all, words could never describe its beauty. It is a must experience for travelers looking for a peaceful setting and warm Hospitality.
Dingy, old, pipes exposed, unorganized
I could not stay at the hotel. It was dingy and old. The pipes were exposed, no cabinet doors in kitchen. Owner could not find my reservation that I made in July. Computers were conveniently down. No front desk at location, I had to meet owner a block away. There is a hostel next door that rents rooms by the hour. Not a family friendly location. This is the THIRD time I have expressed my disappointment.
Bates motel
No air conditioning. Just a bed
Aloha for a small family
We needed a comfortable place to relax after Waikiki and see a volcano. This lovely two bedroom rental was perfect. It was clean, comfortable, and close to amenities. If you are looking for fancy this is not the place for you. However, if you want to sit on real furniture to have breakfast and a couch to watch cartoons, this is a fun way to visit Hawaii. There was live music playing on Friday and Saturday night but it was just background noise with a good beat and we slept great. The Inn is also close to cool shops and an awesome sunday farmer's market with amazing food too. The stay was fun, mellow, and a great way to relax.
Funky fun for the relaxed travelers
Fun place. We checked in at the pizza place down the street. The place was super comfortable, well stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook a quick meal. We will go back.
Great Value
Furniture was old, some things were out dated, BUT you got a full living room, kitchen, and 2 bedrooms for a great price. So if you don't find you need all the modern conveniences, and you have a full size family, I would recommend renting this place for an extended stay. It will help you save a lot of money that you can use for other fun stuff
The kids loved it. Very close and convenient to everything good block or two of walking but everything's just right there food/bank/shops it was a very pleasant stay and I would stay there again
Cheap Hotel
Cheap Stay for Volcano National Park. Late Checking wasn't a problem. Got some free Pizza and beverage from the owner.

Lava viewing
It doesn't look like the picture. They are in the process of upgrading units. Work still needs to be done. It was adequate for the price.
